India owes more to the British than the other way around. A series of disparate independent states that were led by complete monarch control, were united into one country (don’t blame the Brits for the Muslims wanting to split later on), under one set of laws and the largest working train system in the world.

So not to over react, while keeping enough on standby, reserves for any other attack.
Then to find out just what had Hamas done in its ground attack & respond to that.
Most likely Israel had not practised, done manouvres for such an eventuality, but that would have been considered as threatening oppressive behaviour making Israel a pariah of bad thinking about Palestinians.
