I see they plan to build the new pool on the site of the current one so with NZs snail like sort of productivity it could mean current pool is closed for 2 to 3 years .
The refurb of the Akl Tepid baths , not a lot done, meant they were closed for over a year. A new build in NZ would take ages in a country where motorways get built at at 4 mm per day and a two mile train line is not done after nearly 10 years.
I was in Tauranga for a week at Xmas and we went to the pool almost every day and /or the skate park and mini golf next door. I was surprised at the low use of the pool .
Maybe people prefer the river or the beach.

( Note, most councils, like government, hire people sent to them by HR and never do any real due diligence themselves. For example, our new RBNZ governor. People hire others like themselves. The current CEO was a policeman upgraded. Never employ them. The commissioners gave him a new contract months before the election. Disgraceful conduct and it’s for 5 years, so unless he decides to leave, we have a big bill to fire him.
