Councils should now be wafer thin

Most work is contracted out.
Rubbish, footpath and road works
parks and reserves
dog catchers; Towing (in AKL)
noise control et al.

Direct employment tends to be libraries and street patrol/parking meters
even this can be subbed out
rates systems are largely automated and there are no cheques mailed in quarterly to process.
Dog registration is only a small time of the year – usually June only – so can bring in temporary people; students in mid winter break; get a contract with the local polytech or Uni (too easy) !

Most of it is Make Work stuff now
Empire building

a typical council in NZ SHOULD have one quarter the number of staff it had in 1990 (35 years ago) in direct employment.

The intent of contracting out was to arms length these tasks and not have to worry about, often, low wage workers.
There only need to be some specialist contract managers and project managers
But Auckland council has floors of project managers who report to Program managers. an empire.

Councils are the opposite of private enterprise (in pretty much every way)
Private enterprise needs to be more efficient.
councils thrive on being increasingly inefficient and into empire building
THEY set the rates , suckers . Pay up or get a lien of your property.

any person standing for council this week who says they will stop rates rises blah blah is a liar
either they are too stupid to know they cant do that, or they are, yes, well lying. A politician, no doubt.

adding to cost.

circa 2005 the Klarkenfuhrer in her university trained wisdom (MA in political studies) decided to add to rate payers cost.

for no particular reason – like Forrest Gump -she decided that that Regional councils all had to set up billing systems. Prior
the local codicils billed out the rates for the attached regional council, and handed over the money.
Easy as.
less billings systems, less bills to each RATEpayer (not voter, but rate payer )

This was a deliberate duplication of services,
todally unnecessary
but the liebour way
create for jobswoths in govt.

Although I engage in less and less of MSM now
I did not notice this year the totally nasty MSM hit jobs that the media filth did in 2022 on local govt candidates they did not like.

like anyone who even posted one tweet questioning the vaXXX
in 2021
It was all out war in 2022 on any candidates the MSM did not like
appalling but not surprising for that lot

Are $1uff $1aff still having stopworks and protesting pay ?

but yes Dougal
the quality of candidates is poor
in reality they don’t have much power anyway
the power has transferred to the executive staff
the unelected ones
like in Yes Minister.

Kaipara Mayor Craig Jepson ,after making a brave stand against the maori wards in 2022 is not standing again after 1 term only.
Mauger in CHC has been an empty vessel after all his grandstanding prior to being mayor .

Why is it like this ?

johnny keys swept the decks in his time to allow the WEF takeover;
luxcinda is the current puppet

while raising benefits and not lowering taxes in 9 loooong years.

I hear that Kaipara woman is only going to speak in Maori where possible in parliament. What a wonderful idea, nobody will understand her and I doubt she has anything useful to say anyway. The partly Maori party are a good example of the difference between politicians and activists. They don’t want to be in government, they would have to work. Yesterday was just another example of respect free theater that we have to pay for. They actually make the Greens look relatively sane and that’s no mean feat. All going well there should be a major bout of internecine warfare breaking out in that party fairly soon which with a bit of luck will destroy them.

Interesting to contemplate.

Winston Peters will likely be dead before the end of the 2026 -2029 parliamentary term
he will go fast in a few months like Bob Jones .

so the choice he makes next year will be interesting.

as it stands, it is unlikely for liebour to dump hipkins now, what with him ranking above the current PM in acceptance stakes
so that should rule out Winston going with liebour .

BUT
Winston does not really follow up on words he uses.
he is a chancer; an opportunist;
and when the future of the country (he will not be here for that) is at stake, baubles matter
always have
the leopard wont change his spots at 80 yo.

NZF always poll higher than the vote count.
he is good at stirring emotions but at the ballot box people calm down a bit.
Prior to the 1996 first MMP elections NZF was polling at times above 25%
the result was 13%.

So, Winston’s choice in 2026,and it will mainly be his, will affect the country
but he is duplicitous
and will go with what suits him.

In the first MMP erection of 1996 NZF had 13% of the vote
and IT got to decide who formed the Govt.
allegedly because bolger offered plenty of whiskey.
How govts are really formed under MMP !!
.
MMP huh.
failed at the first hurdle; to use a horsey term for Winston.

either way he is dealing with Chris (L or N ) who is a gutless weak sellout ;
maybe Winston should have picked better friends !!

when he dies he will never have fulfilled the potential predicted by Muldoon.
but he has received nice gift baskets (aka baubles) .

He will not go with Labour while Willie and Hipkins are there.

For a start there’s no way Shane Jones would go along with it, given that he’s either going to be Winston’s successor or at least remain 2IC in the party. Jones knows that alignment with Labour would be suicide for NZ First as a party. I know friends of his who would advise him of the same.

Further, the NZ First vote will only increase towards the election at the expense of National and possibly even Labour. This will give NZ First more bargaining power should the “right” bloc (quoted because of National), hold power.

If the right can’t form a government, I would strongly expect that NZ First will only offer confidence and supply, and will royally fuck with Labour et al. That will be revenge served cold for He Puapua.

See if I’m wrong.

There is huge money in war, and even bigger gains when the war is over and the usual suspects pick up resources for cents in the dollars using the debt that was run up supplying arms to both sides.

More on why the UK is fucked…

https://www.joannenova.com.au/2025/10/its-an-emergency-the-defence-industry-wants-to-get-some-climate-money-too/

The “fidders and perverts” need a base or authority over kids to get them to accept their perversions & predations. Think Scouts, youth groups, some sports clubs, churches & teaching. But only one provides the essential ingredients, ie the trust the God besotted, gullible parents have in their religious leaders & the obedient, unquestioning kids who are taught to obey their elders.

In Australia the state is awarding itself extra powers in the name of “social cohesion”. Issued under the banner of “antisemitism” they are thinly disguised means to silence dissenting voices or unpopular movements.

New Zealand control freaks are determined not to be outdone. Here Mark Mitchell has announced changes to the Policing Act reenabling “the organisation’s ability to gather intelligence in public places, and expand Police powers to temporarily close areas in response to antisocial behaviour or public safety risks.”

Many in their naivety will applaud thinking that the power will be used against criminal gangs & out of control little scrotes who thumb their noses at all laws & authority. They will ignore the fact that gangs & youth crime are not the targets. We are!

From https://insidegovernment.co.nz/govt-to-restore-police-intel-collection-powers/

#. “Police can collect and use images in public spaces, and in places where Police are lawfully present, for all lawful policing purposes”.

#, Police will be able to, “Close a broader range of areas, not just roads, to manage disorder or emergencies”.

#. “Issue infringement notices and, where necessary, arrest those who refuse to comply or provide identifying information”.

This is to ensure that the Police “have the necessary tools to manage non-compliance and keep communities safe.”

What we need is a way to be safe from Police & Parliament!

Small wonder that the Grinch of Greerton has a bad attitude. “WaynesWorldView” came up on my You Tube list featuring an episode entitled Has Tauranga Gone Mad ?

Offhand I’d say Wayne’s right. A wander through the Tauranga CBD reveals ‘For Lease’ signs sprouting like March mushrooms. Half the bloody town is empty. You could fire a shotgun down the main road without hitting anyone!

Then there’s the waste. Waste on a scale seldom seen outside Wellington.
A $5,000,000 playground, an $88,000 bench, a $300,000 “sculpture”, a shabby rainbow crossing for $11,000. Shit! They must have some rich ratepayers up the BoP way.

Well, I guess if the Masterton pensioners wanted something other than a slum town(by your own admission,) then your council would be spending up, but let’s not forget that most of this was organised by a broken arsed ex CEO of Wellington and an equally corrupt Mania Mahooter and her commissioners.
Put in place by equally mad 10b who couldn’t work with anyone at all, so resigned to run off and sulk in the Ukraine, saving people while spying for the home team.
You don’t get to the top of the army and not be captured by their system. From Auckland, by the way.

I’d love to know where there is a 5-million-dollar playground.
But then of course, you haven’t been near the place in your life, so talking through a hole in your arse as usual based on the MSM bullshit.

But we understand why few want to live in Masterton. Go join your pak and slave queue.
And yes, we have a lot of very rich people here, which is why Masterton doesn’t have them. Life is so much better in the sun.
.
And being the benevolent souls we are we have built lots more slum houses with your tax money.
Sadly, those are the ones you couldn’t look after.

…..”we have a lot of very rich people here, which is why Masterton doesn’t have them”…..

One must accept valid criticism & it is true that we are an impoverished town in an economic desert. Even the local Maori have acknowledged that & in keeping with the theme of poverty they only extorted $90,000 from the ratepayers to display their modest tribal treasures on ‘pou poles’ at each end of town.

The small rusted eyesores are dwarfed by the pine poles they’re nailed to but on the bright side there have been reduced sightings of Taniwha of late.

Probably imported the poles from Tokoroa.
So watch out, the Tainui might want them back.

Dear Nasska, I posted that yesterday. Apparently trusting ones own eyes is not condoned by V of Tauranga. At least I think that’s what he was on about.

Await the tongue lashing. I’ve had mine.

Get your facts right instead of swallowing crap dished out by crap pushers in the media.

Isn’t that a constant theme here? Don’t swallow the bullshit that the MSM dishes out and what you see on Facebook.\?
HMMM

What about all the empty shops in central Tauranga? Not looking very attractive is it. My parents lived in Tga so visited often. Like many places around the country YOUR city has gone way down hill.

Like all councils they are happy to virtue signal with OTT, expensive rainbow crossings, etc paid by the ratepayers. Is wasting rates okay with you??

Perhaps you should look at Hamilton before you say much.
It was full of empty shops for a long time until Tainui spent taxpayer-provided dollars there.
Now Te Rapa is lined with broken-down motels, etc, many of which have just been auctioned off. The building industry there is ground to a halt. Only dairy keeps it alive.
But you had a nice new bridge built that actually goes to no housing yet, and we wait for roads, let alone a bridge.

The truth is that most town centres all around the world suffer from this same malaise. Bought on by computing and the growth of shopping malls. (I recall all the whining from the people in Hamilton when Foodtown opened the Nawton store. One believed Hamilton was being raped and pillaged.)
Made even worse now by online shopping. No need to be there any more. Nicer places to be and live and work close by makes a lot of sense to those with half a brain.

We have some great areas here now.
We have been for all the time I have lived here, the fastest-growing area in NZ. It goes up and down in activity, but still grows.
It’s just a nice place to live despite the growth.
Growth costs money, and when it comes to roading, we have been starved of NZTA funds. Why, because this area has been safe National forever. Unlike Hamilton, which has contested seats. You can guess that politics decides where the money gets spent.
Did you know that we funded and built 2 bridges and 2 motorways with ratepayer funding?

Well, we did and had to get the law changed to do that. The only time in his life that Peters ever did good. Twice, once with Bolger and once with Clark, because each, in their turn, wanted to rule, and he wanted a turn. Didn’t work very well then, and no better now.

Growing has its issues, of course, and there are issues with previous administrations, but I sense that we are on the right track.

We couldn’t even buy a port crane without empowering legislation.

Our 4 waters are probably the best in the country. We have had an enormous amount of rain, but no issues at all.

Like anything, there are injustices done in the immediate past. And there have been decisions made that were and remain wrong. That’s life, I reckon. Every council seems to have them.

The biggest injustice here again was political. When the Port was privatised, all the shares were given to the regional council and none to TCC or its ratepayers. We, the ratepayers, have spent a fortune supplying infrastructure, etc, for the port for no return. Now the Regional Clowns are going to create a huge nest egg, and again, Tauranga ratepayers will see none of it in our bank account.
They will waste it for sure.

Next time you want to know something about this area, feel free to ask.

I am a stupid boy

Never have any problem except having to log-in sometimes reasonably frequently. Do your work through a VPN?

Good you made it back 😃

Nice place to come at the end of a day’s work.
Just to find out who has decided to be abusive today.

Never mind testing others’ ideas and adding to knowledge, just attack with all the abuse you can muster. Rather sad.

Waiting.

is that a request for abuse? I can end the wait shortly. However, it’s not really my style, I’d rather have a crack at ideas and opinions. It’s rather silly being abusive to a name that has no real association with any person. So stop waiting and contribute meaningfully to robust debate.

Hope you’re not calling me abusive?! You need to dial yourself back if you are. It isn’t personal commenting on the City of Tauranga.

The government today announced that it is exploring selling the debt and equity securities it holds in Chorus, the network infrastructure builder that was awarded the vast majority of areas to construct the Ultrafast Broadband (UFB) initiative created in 2009.
Finance minister Nicola Willis and infrastructure minister Chris Bishop announced the decision to divest the Chorus stake jointly. New Zealand’s National Infrastructure Funding and Financing company NIFFCo will now investigate the feasibility of selling the debt and equity securities the government holds in Chorus.
These were purchased as the Crown’s contribution to funding the UFB, amounting to $566.9 million and $768.5 million respectively, or $1.34 billion in total. Chorus shares trade at $9.26 each on the New Zealand stock exchange presently, with the company’s market capitalisation being $4.05 billion.
If the securities sale to private investors goes ahead, it would take place in early 2026, and done with oversight by the Treasury, Bishop said.

But the man who gives a suasge roll a bad name says.

Speaking at this year’s Bloomberg Address, Willis declined to make a prediction how much the government would get from the sale, but said “I want to get as much as possible.”
Willis also denied that the proposed Chorus divestment amounted to asset sales, which the Coalition government has ruled out for the current term.
“I think that debt securities and equities don’t really fit New Zealanders’ idea of an asset,” she said.
“We don’t own Chorus in any way, and we are essentially a debt lender to it,” Willis added.
“So I don’t think that is a tangible asset in the sense that is meant by the Coalition agreement,” Willis said.
Opposition Labour leader Chris Hipkins viewed the Chorus announcement as an asset sale in an attempt to balance the government books.
“Here we go again. This is the National Party failing to invest in New Zealand’s future. They can’t balance the books so their response to that is to hock off the family silverware,” Hipkins said..

Well done to the govt shit heads that wasted taxpayers money.

The Government is likely to be the largest external creditor of Cherri Global – a Hawke’s Bay cherry grower which went into liquidation owing nearly $43 million to creditors.
While most of the debt – $41.27m – is owed to related parties, the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, has confirmed it is owed the majority of the external debt.
Cherri Global and its subsidiary companies, Cherri Holdings and Cherri Machinery, were put into liquidation on March 8 through a special resolution of shareholders, with Janet Sprosen and Stephen White of PricewaterhouseCoopers New Zealand appointed liquidators.
In their first report, the pair said the three companies faced challenges following the impacts of Cyclone Gabrielle and an unsuccessful attempt to raise new equity to fund the development of the orchards.
This led to the business selling the majority of its property assets and operations, subsequently ceasing trading in November 2024 following the sale.

How can you tell the difference between a Protestant and a Catholic?

Ask them to name the books of the Bible.

If you listen carefully, you’ll notice that the Protestant answer excludes the deuterocanonical texts, such as Tobit and Judith, while the Catholic answer will be, “How the fuck should I know? There’s like 50 of them. Piss off.”
