Friends wife was diagnosed with breast cancer a few months ago. Went to the Timaru Hospital to see the specialist to find out/discuss the treatment path. Was told she was one of twenty four that day to see the specialist.
Sure seems like a lot of women with breast cancer at one time in the Timaru catchment area.
Treatment paths are decided by multi-disciplinary committees who get around the table and discuss test results and treatment options for each patient. I did meet my specialist once, but it was post-surgical and I’d not recognise him again. Most cancer management is test-based, so there’s no need for face-face patient involvement. They have separate specialist support people for that.
Had a similar conversation with the radiation tech at Palmerston North hospital recently. Specific numbers elude me now, but they were shovelling 4-7p/hr through and had around 8 machines on the go. That’s a lot of people to glow in the dark. Palm Nth radiation serves New Plymouth and Hawkes Bay, but I hear there are plans to get reactors in each of those centres.
There’s a good drench called ivermectin, and of course,e the horse paste.
Tastes like shit, but some Barkers black currant juice soon hides the taste, and anyway, who cares when your life is at stake.
There is now plenty of evidence that ivermectin works, and you can also add Fenbendazole.
You won’t see that in any MSM, nor will your doc tell you even if they know. It is available now in a number of states in the USA and most of Africa and India and I think Japan.
Another good supplement is Methylene Blue. Amazing stuff.

Lots of fish oils cause a ghastly reflux. Processing them was fairly rudimentary when we were kids. Thankfully things are better now, and we can usually partake in a great source of nutrients without the ugly consequences. Garlic capsules have also improved immeasurably.

Probably at different stages of treatment – after the first couple of times seeing a specialist the patients are usually seen by lesser individuals so that the specialist has time for his golf game.

Tenants, near Oamaru managed to break the shower door, tried to repair but beyond that. The landlord agrees ro replace and puts in an insurance claim. The building assessor visits and says will cost $7000, the whole shower has to be replaced. Can get a new door for around $300, whole shower $700-800. The landlord has to pay an excess of $250.

The insurance companies are awash with money , they all put up premiums but are having less claims as people don’t want to pay more the next year because of the claims. I set most of my excesses at 1k or 2k depending on value of item , it stops me making a lot of claims and has kept my insurance below 25k.

Actually we spent 2 years and 3 month sailing the S. Pacific with our two teenage children. They got a real taste of foreign cultures. We got to spend quality time with our kids and home schooled them. No TV so both got into reading a variety of books (trade whatever books you have with whatever books the other boat has).
The world spins that way. You just stick you boat in at San Fran, untie it, and NZ comes to you.

How Much Are NZ Taxpayers Still Paying to Prop Up Jacinda Ardern?

As New Zealand families tighten their belts amid economic pressures, the fact that former Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern continues to receive substantial taxpayer-funded benefits raises serious questions.
After stepping down in January 2023, Ardern enjoys a generous lifelong payout and perks, drawing from public funds as many Kiwis struggle to buy groceries. This article examines these benefits, their duration, and their burden on New Zealand taxpayers, shedding light on a system that some many find out of touch.
A Lifelong Annuity Draining Public Funds
Under the Members of Parliament (Remuneration and Services) Act 2013, former Prime Ministers who serve over two years are handed a lifelong annuity.
For Ardern, who led from October 2017 to January 2023 this means $57,000 NZD annually, paid directly from taxpayer pockets.
Calculated at $11,400 per year of service up to a $57,000 cap, this payment continues indefinitely.
With Ardern’s estimated net worth of $5–10 million USD, amassed after her entry into politics and her lucrative post-Parliament ventures such as book deals and speaking on topics such as “compasionate leadership” or “authentic kindness”, many are questioning why taxpayers are forced to bankroll her for life.
This unchallenged annuity feels like an unjustified burden on hardworking New Zealanders.
Costly Travel Perks Add Up
Beyond the annuity, Ardern, her partner, and dependent children under 18 receive domestic travel benefits, including up to 12 single airfares per year for her and 6 for her partner. These can cost taxpayers $10,000 to $20,000 NZD annually, depending on flight prices, with no fixed end date. While framed as support for former leaders, these perks are increasing anger as families cut back on essentials to make ends meet.
The possibility of additional international travel rebates, though not guaranteed, only deepens concerns about a system that seems to prioritize former politicians over ordinary citizens.
The lack of transparency around these costs leaves taxpayers in the dark about the true price of Ardern’s benefits.
No Salary, Lots of Gravy
Ardern briefly lingered as a backbench MP until April 2023, collecting a pro-rated salary of $163,961. Since leaving Parliament, she no longer draws an MP’s salary, but the annuity and travel perks ensure she remains a costly figure for taxpayers. The absence of other confirmed payments does little to soften the sting of these ongoing entitlements.
Sorting Fact from Fiction
Misinformation has muddied the waters, with some claiming Ardern pocketed funds from an $800,000 taxpayer-subsidized documentary. In truth, this money went to a film project, not her directly, but its existence still fuels dissent about how public funds are spent in her shadow.
While exaggerated claims about her wealth have been debunked, her substantial $5–10 million USD net worth underscores that she does not need taxpayer funding.
A System in Need of Scrutiny
Ardern’s benefits—at least $57,000 NZD annually not including travel costs—highlight a system that lavishes lifelong rewards on former politicians while families face rising costs for healthcare, education, and housing. The open-ended nature of these payments, with no clear mechanism to reassess their necessity, feels like a betrayal of public trust.
New Zealanders deserve a frank discussion about whether their hard-earned money should indefinitely prop up former leaders who’ve already moved on to more lucrative pastures.
Much as I share the writers loathing for former PM Ardern and strongly resent that she still has her hand in the NZ taxpayers pocket, it is unfair and inaccurate to single her out when the same perks apply to other former PMs.
Cut them all off. Once you quit a job or get fired the wages stop. This should be no different.

NZ First leader Winston Peters promises to repeal two-day-old Regulatory Standards Act
Act leader David Seymour says Winston Peters’ promise to repeal the Regulatory Standards Act “sounds like he’s getting ready to go with Labour again”.
Peters has vowed to “get rid” of the legislation, which only gained its royal assent and became law two days ago, if elected at the 2026 general election.
The NZ First leader says the bill, which creates a Regulatory Standards Board to consider legislation against principles, was a degree of intervention “not fit for a modern democracy”.
“I’m making it very clear where we stand. We believe in the fundamental principles of democracy and the paramountcy of Parliament – not an unelected committee.”
The legislation was a coalition agreement between Act and National. The separate agreement between National and NZ First says the latter will also support initiatives in the Act deal.
