As luxflakes and his mates seem to be intent on pushing the ‘Digital ID’ line (and although aimed at a UK audience) this opinion piece from somewhat-controversial British MP George Galloway might be of interest.
‘[Starmer’s] Digital ID bill – to which billions were just allocated in the budget – is another inexplicable infatuation. Friends of the measure can be counted easily- the Usual Suspects. Its opponents already number in the millions – and the opposition has the potential to make this a Poll Tax moment for Keir Starmer.
To understand Starmer’s strange and un-British desire you need to know that Tony Blair and his WEF friends loom large. This is unfinished business for them.
In parliament as still a Labour MP – Mr Blair expelled me later over the Iraq War – I was a leading opponent of Blair’s Identity Card proposals to which- like the Death Bill – he snared up Parliament for a measure with little support and broadly based opposition.
I declared then that whatever the law said I would refuse to accept an ID card.
This I do again with his latest wheeze. The technology may have moved on – “Show me your papers” is SO last century and redolent of the Gestapo. But the intention has not changed. It is another attempt to CONTROL our people in a way that is incompatible with freedom. Each of these things is designed to take us further into a dark place where we are merely numbers. Well as the Man said: “I am not a number, I am a Free Man”.
Patrick McGoohan was a Prisoner of an overbearing state and the show was remarkably prophetic. Only the rather nice housing in his prison has not come to pass.
Digital ID, compulsory vaccination, fifteen-minute cities, a cashless economy, lockdowns, fear of the “other” endlessly stoked are all an attempt to change Britain to an unrecognisable place. A place we don’t want to live in until the suicide pods claim us. A glass of sherry then off we pop.
All of this would be intolerable even if we trusted our government and its deep-state machine. But it happens that virtually none of us do.
All of this would be intolerable even if we had a competent government that wouldn’t lose our data or sell it to Elon Musk or Peter Thiel or Klaus Schwab. But we don’t.
Our people stood alone in Europe in 1940 and in 1941. It was the Battle of Britain. This is not the Britain for which our fathers fought and in which our mothers kept the home fires burning- working in the war-economy at the same time. This is a different Britain much more similar in fact to the tyranny which besieged us at the Channel Ports.
It is not too late to stop it, but it’s getting dark.
We must all unite and quickly if we are not to see the dying of the light.

I finally got around to listening to Leighton Smith’s latest podcast (number 312) which covers the banking/financial aspects you raised during the week ED. It is very good and I would recommend it to everyone. John Alcock explains how far it will go, particularly accessing everything on your phone. He says the way he will get around it, for banking, is to get another phone that only has the banking app on it, nothing else.

Greymouth Tradie Fined $400 for Using Ladder Without Spotter, Consent Form, or Risk Assessment Hui
“Safety is about feelings as much as physics,” says WorkSafe spokesperson Bud Holhurts.
GREYMOUTH — A local tradesman has been slapped with a $400 fine after allegedly using a ladder without the required emotional, administrative, and spiritual safety procedures in place.
Gabe Horn, a 42-year-old Greymouth tradie, was changing a gutter bracket on a residential property last Friday when a WorkSafe inspector conducting a “routine vibe check” identified multiple compliance failures.
According to the infringement notice, Horn was found to be:
On a ladder without a designated spotter
Without a signed Ladder Consent Form (LCF-22B)
Lacking a documented Risk Assessment Hui
And operating without having verbally acknowledged the ladder’s “lived experience”
WorkSafe spokesperson Bud Holhurts said the fine was necessary to uphold modern workplace values.
“Ladders are no longer just climbing devices,” Holhurts explained. “They are vertical access partners. Every ascent is a relationship, and relationships need communication.”
Horn said he was stunned when the inspector approached mid-climb.
“He asked me if I’d consulted the ladder before stepping on it,” Horn said. “I said, ‘Mate, it’s a ladder — not my wife.’ That’s when things escalated.”
The inspector reportedly halted the job immediately and initiated an on-the-spot micro-hui with the homeowner, a passing dog walker, and the ladder itself, represented by a laminated safety diagram.
Local resident Sam Whichpres, who witnessed the incident from across the street, said the process took over 45 minutes.
“They were standing in a circle talking about ladder trauma while the poor bugger just hung there halfway up with a cordless drill in one hand and regret in the other.”
In addition to the fine, Horn must now complete a mandatory half-day course titled “Ascending With Awareness”, which includes:
Boundaries in vertical movement
Ethical rung engagement
Trust-building between worker and equipment
And de-escalation techniques for “aggressively leaned” ladders
Holhurts defended the training.
“Falls from height are dangerous. But so is emotional negligence.”
Horn says he’ll comply but remains unconvinced.
“I’ve been using ladders for 20 years and none of them have ever complained. Now suddenly they need a counsellor and a clipboard escort.”
WorkSafe confirmed it is now reviewing the emotional safety status of step-ladders, scaffolding, and “potentially aggressive wheelbarrows.”
Meanwhile, Greymouth tradies report a sudden spike in paperwork, delays in roofing jobs, and an underground black market in unregistered ladders.

Noting just how much I had to jump up & down at the start of this century on behalf of my father to get a hell of a lot more than just panadol, & what they were doing was impossible, & nigh on criminal.
Fortunately I got the backing of an old nurse, so though slow, they changed, stopped the impossible treatment and then went to a form of pallative care, & finally stopped the pain.
Then just a few years ago, with the same Doctor, they were well ahead of the situation with my mother.
My mother & I discussed that much earlier, whether she feit pain or not, to ask for pain relief, & so they had started, & increased it before I even knew the old dear was hooked, as once the first days passed, she was back to her happy self, talked some of my siblings, and told me, “right, I am on the way out” telling the doctor on the next visit, “the pain”.
These days Doctors dispense morphine so much more quickly & easier.
So much so wanting to give me Remdesivir if they thought my lungs were being a bit “chesty” & probably ready to go to morphine me out too..

We are all shaped by our experiences. My family moved around a bit as the old man scaled the totem pole of his employment. At one stage we put down temporary roots in a smallish quiet Waikato town. Across the road & down a bit was a normal 20’s bungalow. Normal except for the shrieks that came from it at all hours for much of the day & night for months on end.
Real shrieks. Noises like those from a wild animal in pain.
I would have been about seven & my brother nine. Naturally we asked our parents about what was going on. The replies were limited to, as was normal for us, a belt around the ear & an admonition to keep our noses out of what didn’t concern us.
Years later, long after I estranged myself from the mess I caught up with my brother & asked him if he’d ever found out what was behind the screams. Turned out that a woman (30ish) was dying of cancer. The local doctor (singular) was Catholic & he teamed up with the priest to decide that the morphine the cunt carried in his bag that could ease her suffering might addict her & ankle tap her passage to God & into Heaven.
There is no disservice that I will not offer to religion.
Apparently there has been a revival of Christian church-going people who have sought out comfort or safety in numbers after being forced through the evil and control of the past five years. 😇
Whatever keeps the communism umbrella of control freaks at bay is all good with me.

In trying to think of a title that captured the essence of 2025, the expression that stuck to me and wouldn’t leave me alone was: ‘The Year of Blurrrgh’.
And, no that’s not very eloquent. But it does seem to fit.
You may or may not recall, but in the run-up to this year, a number of economists and commentator-types championed the phrase “survive to 25” – meaning that if we could all get through the tribulations of a difficult 2024 then we would enjoy better things in the next year, IE 2025.
But as ANZ chief economist Sharon Zollner recently quipped, “survive to 25 just turned into survive 25”, which neatly describes how the year now nearly finished didn’t quite live up to the expectations of some.
It’s probably fair to say a reasonable number of economists and commentators were expecting that those wildly over-referenced ‘green shoots’ would by now be giving way to flowers. Instead we are all still rummaging around in our gardens looking for the shoots and some of us think we can see them coming now. Just don’t tread on them.

Housing is a major consideration for all migrants. This is perhaps the most challenging issue for Kiwis contemplating a move to Australia. Both house prices and rents are at record highs and, according to the latest report from Cotality, increasingly unaffordable. The report finds that
The most unaffordable city is Sydney with a median dwelling value as at 30 September of A$1,241,000 (NZ$1,425,000). Brisbane is second at A$970,000, followed by Perth and Adelaide on A$855,000. House prices are forecast to rise nationally by 6-10% next year, and by significantly more in some of the capital cities.
Melbourne, a popular destination for Kiwis, is now back in fifth place with a median value in September of just A$805,000. For many Aucklanders looking to move west, that may be a plus, not a minus.
