Publishing a Novel

My novel is out being edited and in preparation for self publishing. Amazon Kindle has about 80% of the market, with Apple Books 10-15%

It has been a 47 year project. I first thought of the idea while I was in the UK, applying for jobs in the North Sea oil industry. 1978-79, the oil exploration up there was just getting started. I didn’t get any job offers so came home.

Now I am retired, I have the time for this stuff

The image above is of the cover I have designed. It doesn’t give you much of an idea about what’s inside but I think you will find it interesting. It has what some might be considered, controversial subject matter. But it’s part fiction, part truth.

I have one question I would like an answer to. Do you buy and read books using Kindle or Apple Books?

Brilliant Ed! In answer to your question, I don’t seem to find time to read much, despite enjoying burying myself in a good fiction novel. When I do though, I like the old fashioned paperback. Don’t know why, probably coz that’s just what we grew up with.

Yes, I do buy Kindle books from Amazon. Mainly because they are cheaper than a ‘real’ book and I read 2-3 each week. The cost adds up.
I also love a real book, but it’s got to be an author or subject I like for it to get bookcase space – which is getting limited.

Read a lot but never a kindle or apple. We have a lot of book sales – bookaramas – etc around herer and I have more than enough, but I keep buying them.

I mostly read at night on my Apple phone. Excellent with the built in night lighting and never have to hunt where you left off reading last time. I agree tho there’s nothing like a real book.

Good luck Ed. Lets hope your rollocking good read gets lots of interest.

I go to the library and pic most books by the covers, shopping bag a week.
Return a lot in read on quick read of the last chapter.
That looks like a book I would read.
Only read e books during covid, my tablet had trouble because I read in bed on my side to keep warm snuggled under the blankets.
Can’t read my phone, it’s too small.
Read normal books with a headlight.

my attention span dosent allow me to read/finish a book.
plus i never really got into fiction, when i do read its mainly history or real experience type stuff.

but good on ya Ed, give it a crack and knock off another one of those bucket list things.

So war and Peace is out then. I have just downloaded a pdf. Only 2000 or so pages. Read the first 2.

Neither. But I often search for PDFs of books I would like to read. Not always successful, but generally a good hit rate.

I have never bought or read a Kindle or Apple book. I am a considerable consumer of audio books though.
