Plaintiffs allege that Lindt misleadingly marketed its dark chocolate bars as “expertly crafted with the finest ingredients” while they contain harmful levels of lead and cadmium, leading consumers to pay premium prices under false pretenses.
The claims are based on a 2022 Consumer Reports investigation that tested 28 dark chocolate bars. It found high cadmium in Lindt’s 70% cocoa bar and elevated lead in the 85% cocoa variety, exceeding safe limits set by California’s Proposition 65.
As of late 2024, a motion to dismiss was denied in September, allowing the case to proceed. Lindt argued the marketing was mere “puffery,” but the court disagreed. No further resolutions are reported as of January 2026.

The Cloud is someone else’s computer. If you put your sensitive data in someone else’s computer, the security is only as good as the weakest link.
I’m involved in Cyber Security, and I see companies that wax lyrical about how secure they are, but walk through their offices during morning tea or lunch and observe how many computers are still logged in.
Some points out of hundreds of points in 101 of security for employees:
Windows + L key: to lock your screen every time you get out of your chair.
Windows + D key to minimise your windows when someone comes to talk to you.
Windows + D key to restore windows when they have gone.
Go into any Motel and the computers are logged in even if staff are out the back.
Many people in small businesses have their computers auto login on startup.
5-10% of people are always honest and will always do the right thing.
5-10% of people are always going to help themselves, steal, cheat, etc
The honesty of the other 80-90% is conditional based on “Will I get caught”, “Can I get away with it”, “Whats in it for me”, has the opportunity arisen, or risk vs reward.
The last stat of conditional honesty is borne out in surveys of how may people have cheated on their spouse or partner, and it is over 70%.
There is always someone looking to tale something. Putting your data onto someone else’s computer managed by people who only think of themselves, or who think copyright laws are outdated, or who think it is their right to cheat on their partner/spouse, do deviant shit, or look at other people’s data, or blur the lines, is deluded.

Exactly. And have multiple points of backup monitoring including predictive monitoring. A backup may say “successfully completed” but if the source disk or destination disk has corruption, or there are internal errors – multiple forms, the data will not be recoverable, so you get alerted in real time, rather than discover at the end of the month that the data is screwed.
USB drive access is another one, which has to be locked down by policy. And USB pen drives should never be used for backup, even USB drives per se.
Then you get people like the victims of the ManageMyHealth fiasco, who see their most personal details for sale on the dark web, justifiably throw up their hands & think ‘why bother?’ When we get arseholes like the management of MMH cutting corners to save a few bob on cyber security the rest of us might as well nail our sensitive records to the front door & give up.
If the victims understood the principles above, they wouldn’t have consented to putting their data in MMH in the first place.
I’ve never embraced the Cloud, and it was pushed by vendors as hard as the mRNA vaccine was pushed. I had vendors phone me and tell me all my competitors has signed up, but not me.
I was told the benefits were “clipping the ticket”, “You no longer have to train your staff to look after data storage or email servers, etc, that the “Cloud would do it all”, and better yet, if their were issues (data breaches?) you would get to charge all your time, Ka Ching!
All “Certifications” are now all about “Cloud” that most techs have no real control over. IT professionals are being dumbed down on what makes system actually work.
And in no vendors pitches, did they ever state that Cloud was going to be (more) secure. It was all about clipping the ticket.
In conversations with clients instead of saying “Cloud” (one word to confuse and confound) I would say “Someone else’s computer”. So rather than stare blankly after hearing “Cloud”, they would ask intelligent questions about security, privacy etc.
There are many terms and abbreviations used as means of confusion, coercion, and control in communication. “Cloud” and “AI” are two current examples. Then you have all the woke shit.
To many, even the “educated”, the cloud is a fuzzy concept, a Shangri-La where wages, capital costs & electricity associated with data storage are gratis. They somehow avoid the cognitive dissonance that normal people suffer when they’re told that something is free. Those who would employ a food taster if offered a free meal joyfully store details of their health & finances on ‘the cloud’.
They wander around with the fairies & lambs in LaLa Land not suspecting that their data is being mined for personal info & sold. And that’s the best outcome they can expect.
The cloud & religion are the only two things that don’t have a visible price tag & both come with invisible strings attached.

Doesn’t matter how good your computer system’s security is. It only takes a single crooked cop with access, and game over.

i spent a portion of my early 20s genuinely homeless. lived in my vehicle (with a smashed out window) for 6mnths parking up at night in bush tracks, bare house sites and at beaches then couch surfed for another few months.
all my own doing and nothing anyone could do or tell me wouldve helped me, it was only once i sorted my shit and got away from the area and ppl dragging me back into that life before things changed. less than 6wks after that i met mrs sb and life got crazy but in a different way!

I received out of the blue, a NZ OHMS letter, not a call up, but was sort of vaguely about my availability?, not so much as recruitment.
About 6 months earlier I had recently passed certain Marine department exams & I figured that with my young years of proven sea experience could have been pushed to the Navy.
Also telling me to do a course in radar tracking.
Coincidence?
I just kept my head down low, made no response,& it wasn’t long and that war was over.
NZ at the time was sending its frigates to help the UK in where they had their standard navy patrols, like in the Indian Ocean, to free up the British navy to send some of their ships to where-ever in support near the Falklands & Argentinia.
And there was always talk of shortage of sea experienced crew.
Starmer is also sending a contingent of one Brit soldier to Greenland in support of France’s 35 and a few tiny contingents from other of Europe’s TDS leaders’ brigade.

A man has died while competing in the Tauranga Half in the Bay of Plenty this morning.
Police said it was called to Pilot Bay Beach in Mount Maunganui around 8.20am, where a man was pulled from the water unconscious.
“Sadly, the man was pronounced deceased at the scene,” a police spokesperson said.

The Chief District Court Judge could be called to give evidence in the hearing of a judge accused of disrupting a New Zealand First event.
District Court Judge Ema Aitken will appear before a judicial conduct panel after allegedly disrupting a function at Auckland’s exclusive Northern Club in 2024.
She is accused of shouting that NZ First leader Winston Peters was lying.
Judge Aitken said she didn’t shout, didn’t recognise Peters’ voice when she responded to remarks she overheard and didn’t know it was a political event.
A judicial conduct panel will review her conduct at a hearing in February.
A minute from last December indicated an intention from Judge Aitken, represented by David Jones, KC, to call Chief District Court Judge Heemi Taumaunu.
“The panel requests that the application foreshadowed by counsel for the judge for a direction that a summons be issued to a witness should be filed by no later than Friday, January 23, 2026,” it said.
“That request applies to both the summons to the Ministry of Justice employee… and to the summons to the Chief District Court Judge.”
The panel overseeing the inquiry is led by retired Court of Appeal Judge Brendan Brown, KC, and includes sitting Court of Appeal Judge Justice Jillian Mallon and former Governor-General Sir Jerry Mateparae.
It will determine facts and write a report to the Attorney-General, including whether the removal of the judge is justified.
The inquiry is scheduled for Auckland next month.

“When President Trump appointed me as your Secretary of War, I made you a series of promises. I promised that every single one of your taxpayer dollars would go toward one thing and one thing only: building the most lethal fighting force on the planet. And I promised we would gut the corruptive, unconstitutional, non-merit-based DEI programs that have weakened our military and distracted us from our primary mission. And I promised we would hunt down the waste, the fraud, and the abuse that has run rampant in this department for decades, and to instead redirect that money to President Trump’s America First priorities.
Well, today we are once again taking action on these promises. We’re actually taking a sledgehammer to the oldest DEI program in the federal government, a program few people outside of Washington have ever heard of, that I hadn’t heard of. It’s called the 8(a) program. Now, if you’re like me, you’re asking yourself what is an 8(a)? It’s a great question.
8(a) refers to the Small Business Administration’s program to assist “small disadvantaged businesses owned by a socially disadvantaged individual or tribe.” Providing these small businesses with opportunities is a laudable goal. But over the decades, as it happens, the 8(a) program has morphed into swamp code words for DEI race-based contracting.
And here’s the worst part: in many, many instances, these socially disadvantaged businesses, they don’t even do work. They take a 10%, 20%, sometimes 50% fee off the top and then pass the contract off to a giant consulting firm, commonly known as “Beltway Bandits.” For decades, this program—8(a)—has been a breeding ground for fraud. And this administration is finally doing something about it.
The Department of Justice, under Attorney General Pam Bondi, recently exposed half a billion dollars in 8(a) fraud. Treasury, led by Secretary Bessent, found another quarter billion, and their investigation is just beginning. Treasury, Justice, and the Small Business Administration under Administrator Loeffler are all actively investigating their 8(a) contracts right now.
Now, in the Pentagon, $100 million sole-source contracts go out the door to these 8(a) firms almost every day. One hundred million dollar sole-source contracts go out our door to these 8(a) firms almost every day without any competition or opportunity for anyone else to bid. The Department of War is required by law to do almost a hundred billion dollars’ worth of contracts per year with small businesses, including 8(a) firms. Seems 8(a) is quite important. But we’re not required to pay enormous brokerage fees only to have these firms pass those contracts along to giant consulting companies, and we won’t. We’re not doing this anymore.
So effective immediately, I’m ordering a line-by-line review of every small-business sole-source 8(a) contract that is over $20 million. And we’ll look at everything smaller than that too. The Department of War has the biggest chunk of 8(a) spending by far, ten times more than any other agency. So our cleanup, it’s going to be ten times tougher.
It’s a two-stage mission. First, if a contract doesn’t make us more lethal, it’s gone. We have no room in our budget for wasteful DEI contracts that don’t help us win wars, period, full stop. Second, we’re doing away with these pass-through schemes. We’ll make sure that every small business getting a contract is the one actually doing the work, and not just some shell company funneling your money to a giant consulting firm.
This approach is of course not meant to hurt small businesses, and that’s not the point. America’s full of great, amazing small businesses. This is part of a larger effort to transform our acquisition ecosystem into one that makes sense for the threats we face in the 21st century. I gave a long speech about this back in November. Our goal is to spend your money to build our defense industrial base with businesses, large and small, that share our mission, not to line the pockets of Beltway fraudsters or to advance the agenda of DEI apologists. Only lethality, and we’re going to look at every single contract.”
