john deere lawnmowers are pretty shit even when working fine anyways. they break so bloody easy and their decks are the worst of any brand here in nz.
husky are pretty bloody good and super reliable but youve gotta get the ones with the welded deck not the pressed type or else theyll rust out after a few years.

yup, it applies to lots of things now hence the move away from ownership to subsciption models aswell, just another way to bleed wallets dry.

the channel mentioned (more perfect union) is actually quite a good channel but theyre very very leftist so their proposed solutions are radical but the evaluation of the problem and root causes are usually spot on. theyre worth a watch.

Aren’t they building heaps of solar and wind down there. Manapori is one of the only hydro power stations that they can turn off when wind and solar are supplying as there is no river to run dry when they do.Also you have shit loads of coal down there.

yup, i think those calculations also included coal to oil aswell as electricity needs.

imagine the bloody jobs and support industry it would create… but nope lets send those jobs and money abroad by importing the shit.

lots of southland coal is the low grade stuff but its perfect for a sweet power plant. fonterra and a few other manufacturers still use the stuff for their big boilers.
we need a big fuck off coal fired plant in mataura area and utilise the massive waimumu coal fields, mataura is a festering shithole full of scum so a bit of pollution would probably improve the place but i see modern coal power plants run pretty clean these days.

Solar is becoming very popular nowadays. Pays for itself in about 6 to 7 years. The power companies should realize that once put in, solar systems last a long time and the power companies are going to lose customers.

We have solar but no batteries so are suffering the daily “connection” charges of about $3.50. $100 a month just to be connected to the grid before you use any juice!

If grocery stores charged customers $3.50 to walk into the store before you bought any groceries people would shop elsewhere. Unfortunately the power companies basically have a monopoly.

I am a stupid boy
Reply to  BertP

why no battery bert? was it a cost thing.

im still pricing out my options, the batteries are the most expensive part but i can strap on extra units in the future up to 40kw per inverter. think i need a 3ph inverter tho so they can take up to 80kw of battery storage but my poor wallet couldnt afford that! im thinking 20kw battery and 12kw of panels to start with as long as it fits within my budget.

my line charges a 3.70 here, fucking rip off, then 36c per kw so i see solar paying itself off rather quick even to our sunlight hours are much less in the south.
i wasnt going to go battery at first but it would allow us to get max utilisation and return on investment as selling to the grid they fucking shaft ya.

im not going fully off grid, id have to spend 60-70k to do that and id still need a generator.
if i can halve my power bill ill be happy, id rather spend a lump sum now while ive got the coin and take the pressure off life costs later.
i want to work alot less so any reduction of bills in the future helps plus we get heaps of outages here esp when its windy but lots of clowns like to wrap their cars around power poles in this area fuck knows why.

Has it been cursed?

….. “We extend our sincere gratitude – ngā mihi nui – to the iwi, landowners, local councils, and the Southland community for their unwavering support throughout this process,” said Rémi Galasso, founder and CEO of Datagrid New Zealand. ……

So a trade off to warm the cockles of the heart for some Southlanders :—

…… highlighted Southland’s average annual temperature of around 9.8°C, which allows extensive use of natural cooling and can significantly reduce energy costs compared with warmer data centre hubs in Australia or Asia. ……
https://w.media/datagrid-secures-approval-for-new-zealands-first-ai-factory-in-southland/

Very appealing to the leftists to leverage out the dirty alumiumin smelters & say hullo to clean green industry. ….. so a dun deal ….

If Data systems, the “clean” industry needed even more power, then can Coal & particularly the Lignite fields are not too far away to develop a thermal electric power station. 🙃

Can we get IAASB to stop molesting livestock & address the maorification of everything headed & abetted by the grovelling incompetents of the Gore District Council.

In an email this morning from Hobson’s Choice Don Brash states:

#. “Gore District Council is attempting to bypass private property rights by forcing farmers and landowners to pay for “cultural impact assessments” for basic activities like digging a silage pit or fixing a track. It is akin to, as Elliot rightly calls it, a “mafia racket” where people are squeezed for revenue under the guise of cultural values. “

This is in response to an earlier appeal for support from Elliot Ikilei:

#. “This is ridiculous and unfair. Farmers aren’t anti-culture or anti-Māori, but they’re anti-being squeezed by a system that turns cultural values into a revenue stream and a veto.”

#. “It’s not partnership when one side can withhold approval until you pay up. Gore’s Māori Cultural Values rules have turned routine consents into a paid consultation gauntlet district-wide, no escape, fees included.”

#. “This is a warning sign for farmers everywhere. District plans nationwide are layering cultural value rules on top of SNAs, biodiversity overlays, and hazards, creating a complex web where farmers lose real control over their own land.”

It’s time to gather up pitchforks, matches & rope then march on the Town Chambers. If you don’t get rid of these parasites now you’re fucked!

but still none of this should be fucking allowed its just more rentseeking/extortion. the fucking brown cunts only numbered 1500-2000 over the ENTIRE south island when europeans arrived, with even less down these parts cuz it was too fucking cold. the only reason they were down this far was to hide but they still got found, mostly slaughtered and eaten, the lucky ones escaped into fiordland. there was a big battle about 30mins from here at tuturau, a swampy shithole where early maori lived a miserable existence.

Rent seeking/extortion it most certainly is. People wonder why their power bills are so high – remember the bunch of Ngai Tahu scumbags in the South Island (and others) who got $180 million from Genesis and Meridian:

yea that shouldnt have happened but to claim its the reason for high power bills is a stretch when meridian made a 200+mil profit last year and that extortion payout i dont think was a lump sum and its spread over 20?yrs.

with approx 300,000 customers the bros payment is about 600bux each over 30yrs… hardly gunna break the bank.
but no reggin outfit should hold to ransom and extort money like that, it needs to start being treated as the crime it is and lock up a few of the cunts to send a message cuz at the moment the crime of extortion pays very well if youre the right shade of brown

The real magic that J K Rowling spun was not the financial gifts she has bestowed & whatever associated good they have enabled.

Rather she inspired kids to open their minds & develop the gift of literacy for their own purpose & entertainment. School children who dreaded English with its attendant demands for comprehension tests & essay writing will have learned the true purpose of the written word. They will have learned it from literature found not in boring, hard to comprehend works by Dickens or Bronte but set in a world that is relevant or at least interesting to them.

In an age of short attention times & the fascination computer games have for the young she is a worker of miracles.

Both myself & my better half are avid readers & the kids ended up the same. Wet Sunday afternoons at Chez Nasska would usually find the TV off & everyone sprawled in their favourite part of the house reading.

School failed to inspire our offspring who each went to there to eat their lunches & stare out the window as I did yet on departure they all became instantly employed. I’m not exactly enamoured with the education system as about all they picked up was reading, writing & a bit of arithmetic.

West Coast Waitaha hydro plan wins draft fast-track approvalA plan to fast-track a controversial West Coast hydro scheme has been given an initial go-ahead.
West Coast lines company Westpower applied to fast-track its controversial plans to build a run-of-river hydro scheme on the Waitaha River, and a fast-track expert panel has given it approval in its draft decision.
Westpower wants to build the $100 million Waitaha Hydro Project on conservation land between Hokitika and Franz Josef Glacier.
The plan is to build a weir to divert water through a tunnel to generate 23 megawatts of hydroelectric power, enough to power the equivalent of about 12,000 homes, according to Westpower.

Together with its partner Poutini Ngāi Tahu, Westpower said it welcomed the panel’s draft decision to approve the project.

“The Waitaha is one of the country’s last intact wild river valleys. Once a scheme like this is built, there is no going back.”
She said the Waitaha Valley, including the Morgan Gorge, was regarded as one of the finest canyoning destinations in New Zealand.
She said the area was visited by trampers, canyoners and white-water paddlers, and sat on public conservation land.

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE CASTLEHILL WIND FARM?
About 14 years ago Genesis Energy announced they wanted to build a wind farm on the top of the Castle Hill, between Alfredton and Tinui. It was going to be the biggest wind farm in New Zealand.
Consultation, as part of gaining a resource consent started. Locals attended meetings and various goodies were offered to schools at either end of the Tinui-Alfredton Road. Eventually the resource consent went through various hoops and was granted.
Then nothing for years, save for a news item that the Castlehill Wind Farm would be built at some point, but at a reduced scale.
Meanwhile Meridian faced staunch opposition from locals to building a wind farm at Mt Munro, in the Hastwell area. But that was also approved.
Apparently east Wairarapa wind is the best in the country, as any farmer who has spent time on our hills in a north-westerly gale will tell you. They probably won’t use the word best though.
It now turns out there’s an interesting reason why both Genesis and Meridian are sitting on their heels. The first wind farm off the rank has to fork out $250 million to connect their wind farm to Transpower’s grid.

$250m stalemate has stalled new wind farms – Transpower hopes to break itA review of how new power lines and pylons are priced should help remove blockages to the construction of renewables, says the electricity network operator’s chief executive, James Kilty

Anything that stops those ridiculous wastes of space and resources is a good thing.

I’ve said it before – make the fuckwits who want renewables pay for the power they generate (which will be the most expensive), and pay again fir the peaker capacity that has to be in place when the glorious green energy is doing what it does best and isn’t flowing.
