The Iranian factions believe one or all of them can negotiate, like haggling over the price of a carpet in a bizarre. Trouble for Iran is all of their leaders and the military have been killed and decimated, most of their infrastructure has been bombed and their oil wells are likely to be capped. There is nothing to negotiate with, nothing the US needs but the Iranians thought they could wait the Trump presidency out. That isn’t going to work but they still won’t submit.
There will be a few more strategic bombing raids by the US and Israel to reinforce it’s not getting better for them, there may be another attempt at negotiation but it is time and the only option is for Iran to admit defeat.
There’s the small matter that started the conflict yet to resolve. Like, where are the stocks of enriched uranium?
Trump has the co-ordinates where the B52 bombs dropped their loads down the underground shafts in the “Fire and Fury” bombing raid. The US has already said they will extract all the enriched uranium dust. That’s the major sticking point as the Iranian regime still wants their nuclear programme. The Chinese are building plenty of these. Maybe not as big but some plants are taking rubbish from other cities, as their plants are not operating at capacity.
Back in the day Wellington used to have an industrial scale plant down near where Te Papa is now.
They tried getting something similar out at Marsden Point a few years ago. It was some kind of closed cycle system from Germany. It could burn pretty much anything including flock mud and leave virtually nothing behind. Not sure why it didn’t go ahead apart from being horrendously expensive. The interesting part is the same company also made coal burning power plants that put out next to no pollution. Why don’t we just get one of them and put half of the lower South Island through it?

Greenpeace today heralded Mighty River Powers decision to scrap Marsden B, which would have been the first major coal fired power station built in New Zealand for over 30 years.
There was a planed waste incinerator to burn Auckland’s rubbish at the old Meremere power station.
They had an open day at the Marsden A power station just before they pulled it down and shipped it to India. There is a pipeline running from the refinery to the power station which carried the oil which was going to fire it. Apparently it looked like and had a similar consistency to vegemite. The boiler for the turbines was the height of a ten story building and was hung from the roof. At the bottom was basically a large gas ring. The oil was heated up till it became a gas and away she went. The boiler was designed to stretch 2oo mil when it was heated. The turbines were at the top and were never installed – a very fancy piece of kit to have a look at. All the old fashioned phone systems and everything else was still in place. The great part about the tour was it was run by the engineers etc that built the place so you got all the inside information on everything. Marsden A and B were the last of the think big projects and the people who had worked on these projects had nowhere else to go so a heap of them ended up living in the area and working for places like the refinery. Many of them are still here to this day. Marsden B which is just down the road was used for quite a few years, it did generate power but was used more as a giant sub station and distribution point for everything north of here. Back in the early 2000’s Helen Clark wanted to run a bucket system from Northport to bring coal in to run the power station, I’m told it would have been an easy conversion but it was very unpopular with the locals and was eventually dropped.

Heavy fuel oil aka bunker fuel. It’s what ships run on when they’re at sea as opposed to the diesel they use in port to keep pollution to an acceptable minimum. Basically it’s what’s left after the cracking process. Has to be kept warm or it congeals into an immoveable mass.

Some men spent their days tracking & killing animals to BBQ at night while they were drinking beer. This was the beginning of what is known as the Right.
Other men who were weaker & less skilled at hunting learned to live off the Right by showing up for the nightly BBQs to do the sewing, fetching & hair dressing. This was the beginning of the Left.
Some of these socialist men eventually evolved into women. Those became known as girlie-men. An Australian-led project could see Southland’s lignite, or brown coal, reserves developed into urea fertiliser.
Victorian Hydrogen is proposing a $3 billion plant to be located 30km northeast of Invercargill.
The company says it could deliver 1.5 million tonnes a year of urea fertiliser, making New Zealand’s agricultural sector fully self-sufficient.
Urea created using natural gas is by far the most widely traded fertiliser in the world, and while New Zealand produces some locally, the bulk is imported.
Victorian Hydrogen’s plan would involve building a facility that can turn the Southland lignite into gas that can then be transformed into urea.
Executive director Allan Blood said it was a proven technology that was already being used in a new plant commissioned in Zambia in late 2025.
