First I have seen any of this, what on earth are National doing. The rules have already been changed to where the Mayor and Councillors are no longer hands on to any degree, most Councils have grown well beyond the potholes, roads, water and sewerage stage and now looks like regional council size may be being mandated.
The word “local” had better be removed from all future legislation.
Amalgamation worked really well in Auckland. Not for the ratepayers of course, for the overpaid public servants.
Got to get rid of the overheads somehow.
Its not just local councils as you see them, but also includes Regional councils and ad hoc bodies and NGO’s that the ratepayers fund.
I have been working with AI, and I can say that it will have a very profound effect once people learn to use it. I am doing stuff I could never have done in weeks just in a few minutes.
And that’s despite the fact that I have been doing lots of web work for a long time.
Blows me away.
The research we have done using Claude and then using that to have Claude build things is mind-blowing.
And I’m just learning.

Had my core business for 20 years, and along the way have added some others.
Getting a bit too old to do hard physical work, and have always had an interest in process.
I decided a few years ago to learn internet marketing. Went on to building websites for ourselves and building our IT systems, including new add-on programs for the workplace system we use, and now learning very quickly how to use AI.
One of the things that AI does is help you build what you need, and you can find lots of data along the way. we have built a new logo for one of the jobs, and we are building a lot of stuff around that.
We are currently building a promotion for one and grabbing data such as Google Analytics and Clarity.
I am using Claude to do all this. Build in hours what would once have taken days and build it more focused using the data points.
Love it.
No matter what you want to do, sign into claude Its chaep as chips and have a wee play. One of my staff members is building a case for her hubby, which is an employment dispute. You can have it research the law or just about anything you want. Build a brochure, make an advert, write a job description, a how-to fix something, just anything.
Give it a go.
It’s compelling stuff.
Might run naaska through it one day to see if he’s for real.

More than half of New Zealand’s small to medium enterprises believe the coalition Government is not addressing the issues they face, according to new research from MYOB.
The findings from MYOB’s Annual Business Monitor show that the proportion of those business operators dissatisfied with the Government’s overall performance to date now outnumber those that are satisfied, with 35% compared to 33%. The remaining 31% are neutral.
Kiwi small to medium enterprises (SMEs) also continue to juggle higher costs, with data showing overheads were up by an average of $1200 per month.
As for total (combined) insurance premiums, they have risen by an average of $1800 in the last year, increasing by more than $3200 on average for medium-sized businesses.
MYOB chief executive Paul Robson said at the beginning of the year the firm’s insights suggested most SMEs were starting the year more hopeful about their projects.
Views on the coalition’s handling of issues affecting SMEs are split, with 42% of business operators believing it is addressing them well.
But 33% of business operators surveyed believe the Government is not addressing their issues well, with a further 19% believing they haven’t addressed them at all.

Which I can attest to having watched my old man’s brother in action during a fishing trip he took my brother & myself on when we were school age boys. We’re sitting in the boat heading out of Whangamata when we noticed there was no bait on board.

As a postscript, forty years later he still favoured the use of Ministry of Works minnow for results on the water. He & my garrulous aunt were fishing off the Slipper one day when a shark circled the boat putting an end to the bite. He loaded up the gut cavity of a kahwai with plastic explosive added a 30 second fuse & threw it overboard. The shark took the bait, dived then turned back & swam under the boat. Depending on who told the story the shark blew between ten inches to ten yards on the other side of the launch. Either way it took a couple of hours to hose & scrub the blood & guts off the boat & the poor old bugger was still getting an earful off my aunt six months later.
