Pharmac chairwoman Paula Bennett gets 63% pay increase approved by David SeymourDavid Seymour is standing by his decision to sign off a 63.2% pay rise for Pharmac chairwoman Paula Bennett.
Bennett, a former National Party Cabinet Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, is set to see her pay rise from $66,000 a year to $104,360 a year, backdated to September 2025.
The Ministry of Health confirmed the decision was approved by Seymour, the Associate Health Minister, in his capacity as the minister in charge of the drug-buying agency.
Seymour said he had compared the fees for the agency’s board with those of similar organisations in the private sector and found the Pharmac role was paid a third of what similar chairs in private firms were receiving.
“With this increase, the Pharmac chair will be paid half as much as a similar chair of a private company. It is important we get good people running critical organisations like Pharmac. I think we’ve struck a good balance here,” Seymour said.

In a likely first, a group of New Zealand MPs have been sanctioned by the People’s Republic of China for visiting Taiwan, the self-governing island territory China claims as its own.
Act’s Laura McClure, NZ First’s David Wilson, Labour’s Duncan Webb and National’s Maureen Pugh visited Taiwan in May.
On returning, the MPs were told by Parliament’s Clerk that the Chinese Embassy had been in touch with Parliament to inform them they would be banned from entering China and the territories of Hong Kong and Macau for a year.
The embassy also said the punishment could be reduced or waived entirely if the MPs apologised for their visit.
Wilson and Pugh declined to comment. Webb did not return a request for comment. The Chinese Embassy has been approached for comment.
McClure told the Herald that, in her view, the travel ban was “a type of foreign interference”.
“I’m not going to apologise for visiting Taiwan,” she said.
McClure said it was “important our relationship with China is maintained” but “Taiwan is an important economic and cultural partner to New Zealand”.
She described herself as “shocked” by the sanction, saying there is longstanding precedent for backbench MPs to visit Taiwan.

Prices at the latest PGG Wrightson wool auction ranged between $6.47 and $6.80 a kilogram for crossbred fleeces, with some of those best presented and showing good colour breaking through $7 for what the auction manager described as the “first time in almost a generation”.
At the most recent wool sale, auction manager Dave Burridge said the market continued to post “significant gains”, with strong demand competing for available volumes.

I question the order of the stabbing:

Also, stab wounds to that area can be catastrophic; The aorta and arteries to the legs (the largest in the body) flow through there, not to mention the nerve endings. The way they pinned Henry against a wall, where he would be losing blood faster.
>Given what I have read so far, I don’t understand why there haven’t been charges against the brother & father. They were aware that Henry had been stabbed, but they continued to forcefully detain him (the very definition of false imprisonment). I’d argue it was sadistic torture. You can make the excuse of a single Sekh having mental health issues (they will), but that doesn’t excuse the actions of Digwa’s brother, mother & father.

I am unusual (I am told) in that I am 65 and yet I am not on any regular medication. My father never took medication until the last year of his life, when cancer took him at age 91.
On the cynical side, to think that Big Pharma wants you to be healthy is akin to believing that a casino wants you to win.
I am, but I am torn between what I read and what my GP says. At the moment I don’t think I am experiencing serious side effects. But I don’t know. The rest of my bloods are good. What I do take religiously is Ivermectin, 5ml twice a week. And since starting Ivermectin, I have never been healthier.
Lowering cholesterol is the exact opposite of what you should do. I am 72 O’sen and at this point don’t take any pharmaceuticals or any vaccines. Have to get my blood pressure down a bit at the moment though but it won’t be by using drugs.
Blood pressure is as bigger con as statin use. I asked my doctor 60ish, when he did his training years ago, what the normal BP was. He said 100 plus your age.
Now its 130 regardless of how old you are.
All the reading I have done shows its the endothelal lining of the arteries that need nitric acid to maintain the suppleness required. The arteries get harder without this.and makes the heart pump harder, thus raising blood preasure.
I take a mix of garlic, ginger, tumeric, beetroot, tomato paste,honey lemon juice, every monday wednesday and friday morning. No other medication, chemicals etc. My Bp is averaging 135-140 /80. not bad for a 74 young man.
Mine is much higher than that. My research has led me to the conclusion that insulin resistance can cause high blood pressure so my next step is a blood test to check my insulin levels. Insulin controls the level of salt the kidneys retain instead of excreting, high insulin makes the kidneys retain more salt which requires more water and more blood so the kidneys send the message out to raise blood pressure. Seems logical and there is a lot of medical evidence to support. If insulin is too high I will eat less carbs.
Lots of anecdotal evidence too that keto diets reduce bp. I am drinking ginger, tumeric and cinnamon in whole milk in place of coffee, may have to try adding a few extra ingredients.You are correct about nitric acid, essential for supple arteries. i find it hilarious all these over priced hospo places are seeking sympathy.
theyve been ripping off staff and kiwis for decades ffs so its well deserved imo.
plus theres an over saturation of them, the old economy is gone, destroyed. no longer does selling coffee and houses to each other work.

$1million for a restaurant does not seem to be unusual and often a big proportion is owed to the IRD –isn’t anyone tracking it ? It cannot hard for the IT guys to develop a little program that when the debt to the IRD gets beyond a certain percentage of histrorical revenue a red flag pops up
there really should be some sortve debt to turnover before ird can ramp it up and force payment or closure sooner. govt should also move to make ird a secured creditor esp for kiwisaver and paye.
gst returns will quickly show if the business is making any money or going backwards in a hurry.
all these places do when they go under owing so much to ird is rip off kiwis/taxpayers along with their staffs kiwisaver etc like vikey mentions.

They already tell you when you miss a payment. It’s wages that are the big issue because that’s not the company’s money. That is the workers’ money and usually includes their KiwiSaver as well. Always pay that, and if you have to miss GST, they are really good to deal with for a payment plan.

The maoris never added or removed anything from the treaty as it was simply presented to them to consider, debate, then sign.
The home work as this article shows was done and that 2 drafts exist, one being held by the Littlewood family.

In 1972 the historian Ruth Ross made a comparison of all five then-known English versions of the Treaty with the Maori text and conclude that “the Maori text was not a translation of any of these English versions, nor was any of the English versions a translation of the Maori text”.
No final draft of the Treaty was known of until 1989.
Until that time the only known drafts were partial or heavily edited documents and none was dated after 3 February 1840.
In 1989 a document was found among the possessions of descendants of the late Henry Littlewood, solicitor for James Clendon the US Consul and police magistrate in the Bay of Islands, that almost exactly mirrored the Maori text.

The succinct meaning in English is in the drafts to the final draft in English, then translated to maori.
Many of the 100 comments are also very learned, oh well some a bit ignorant but never mind, no real facts.
What raises my ire the most is Winston Peters as he knows all about this.
I read an article in a Bay of Plenty paper, circa 1990’s where Winston was even quoted on figuring it was right.
A few days later the Herald in a similar article, suppressed, or was commanded to leave Winston’s part out.
I used to have the links to that BOP paper, & able to contrast to the Herald, to what Winston Peters said, at hand at one stage, but have lost track.
Winston Peters just continues to act arrogant & ignorant, same as his Cabinet signing off, to prepare the active part of UNDRIP in the He Puapua report

Winston Peters actually mentioned the “Littlewood” version on 18th of March 2004 in the Bay of Plenty and in the main edition of the New Zealand Herald it was just called the English version of the 1840 Treaty.
The BOP readers got a lot more information than what was told to the rest of NZ

To this day, no one in the NZFirst Party seem to point to the Littlewood treaty.
