Had to go out and chop the tree down first, the one over on that hill. and then drag it back home so could saw it up. After rubbing two sticks together caught the spark and took it inside and then lit the fire. We are lucky we had it so easy. Not like when I was a kid and had to plant the tree first.

This whole school lunch thing is a cluster. Why do they need hot lunches? No one ever had hot lunches at school, like ever. And why are these lunches not targeted, and are going to those who don’t need or even want them. I read that 10’s of thousands are getting thrown out daily. Bloody waste of money. But the real issue is whey aren’t the parents sending kids to school with lunches. 4 slices of bread with some filling, a piece of fruit and a muesli bar is not going to break the bank. I’m sick of paying useless ferals their benefits, housing them and feeding their kids. Here endeth the rant.

Agree. Target the very poorest, and supply the schools with materials to make sandwiches. They can determine demand and act accordingly. Bag of apples $6.30 ( 10 apples) Need 2 bags

I’m going out on a limb here, and down tick and ridicule as much as you want, but, I don’t understand the angst about Indian Immigration I work at a school where there are a lot of Indian students and many Indian teachers. Very few are arseholes. I have far more concern about any immigrant of a certain religious persuasion, no matter where they come from. In my teacheing experience of 30 years here, locals especially of enhanced skin colour have given me far more crap than Indians or Asians.
1. youth unemployment is soaring, the indians take up alot of roles those young wouldve traditionaly taken. it destroys a young persons morale not being wanted/needed by society.

Merit is always best, and I agree, but the reality is that we have a minimum wage, and so that’s the bar. Remove all minimum wages, and you will finish up like a 4th-world country.
Nothing stops anyone from being paid on merit, but the issue is what the merit is, and that takes knowing what the job is, what standard a person can complete the job to, and what the rewards are for achieving that merit point.

I know someone who lost their house through stopping mortgage payments and trying to invoke common law mumbo-jumbo. I even offered to help pay the mortgage, but they were adamant they were right and would prevail.

South Wairarapa farmers must be wimps. On TV News they were complaining about not getting out to town for 4 days for supplies. Apparently the weather (floods) blocked the road. How many farmers need to go to town more than once a week?
When I was farming in the ’70’s we only went to town on sale day always on a friday in Te kuiti.

In our neck of the woods it was known as pig & beer day. When the Turanganui Bridge abutments washed out there weren’t all that many farmers amongst the inconvenienced. I doubt that there would be twenty farms from the bridge site to the Cape Palliser lighthouse 30km SE at the end of the road. Most are large S&B coastal stations interspersed with a bit of forestry.
There’s an active crayfish industry at Ngawi but they seas will be too high for the boats to go out & in any case the boys have been hammered half into extinction & the girls will be berried up for another month or so.
