What happens with the local council aim to carry out charging for water if you turned the water main tap off and installed your own water tank collection system/water tank/pump plumbed in
and thumbed your nose at the local council. I understand the water is going to raise from eight hundred flat fee per quarter to thirteen hundred a quarter/five grand per year.
There has been alway a service availability charge, if you can connect to water & the sewerage system just because they go pas, in the rates system.
I think people are going to be very surprized that even though they may go off grid, from electricity, that again a service availability charge may not be that far away in being set up.
Just last night I read about that in Australia that has surprized some.
How well set up that is to happen, needs further clarification, but the seeds of that “charge” is starting to become an issue.
The off-grid point is about how it is the wealthy that have gone off grid, leaving the poorer ones, who can not set up solar panels, wind-turbines with batteries to pay the rapidly increasing costs of ‘line charges’..
So may possiblity prove to be a con in going off grid, but the solar panels, wind turbine & battery sellers & installers will have had a very good little earner.
Nothing more sure, than a bureaucracy would allow itself to be totally by passed from some levy, fee, rate, tax; whatever you want to call it.

Pauline Hanson and One Nation’s new Victorian leader Warren Pickering went on 3AW with Tom Elliott on Tuesday and set out what they’d do about the state’s courts with the numbers behind them.

That would be a real change. A Victorian judge sits on the bench until they turn 70, and nothing they hand down can ever cost them the job. Hanson wants that fixed, and Pickering wants tag and release gone with it, making “bleeding heart judges” accountable for repeat offenders.
Elliott then let slip that a judge told him privately the bench is “so overwhelmingly left wing” that “they do not believe in incarcerating people”.

New Zealand Proud
112 yrs ago today we were one of the first commonwealth countries to declare war on Germany
Approximately 18,058 New Zealanders died as a result of the First World War and many thousands suffered from PTSD in silence for the rest of their lives
We salute and remember you all for your sacrifice for our country
When Germany failed to withdraw its troops from Belgium, Britain declared war on Germany on 4 August.
On the other side of the world, the New Zealand government was informed of the outbreak of war just before 1 p.m. on 5 August (NZ time). At 3 p.m. the governor, Lord Liverpool, announced the news from the steps of Parliament to a large and enthusiastic crowd. Most New Zealanders regarded themselves as British and Britain as home, so there were few doubts about fulfilling our obligations to the Empire in its moment of crisis. Germany’s invasion of Belgium, another small country, also struck a chord with many New Zealanders.
We are still that fucking stupid. no its worse. Our politicians have never learnt anything. Never learnt to not involve us in wars that are none of our business.
Faqark its cold.

Cold enough for frost here, but too much wind. Still, beaut day so far – I’ll take it.
Sou sou east 20 odd knots up here, fine but the wind chill is awful.
Windy as here in the Nui. You would not want to be a small dog or a Wheelie Bin out there, likely to end up in Tokoroa.
