Operation Indago’s name was the choice of the Department of Internal Affairs’ (DIA) chief pokies investigator, Marty Greentree, something of a classics scholar, and it was a deliberate one, reflecting the size and effort involved in the agency’s biggest-ever pokie fraud investigation – both in terms of charges, the number of defendants and the amount of money involved.
Twenty-two defendants, all from Auckland, face a total of 520 charges involving about $3.2m of public money.
The DIA alleges they were all involved in a complex scheme in which a series of “sham” charities were set up to apply for community grants from poker machines.
Once those grants were obtained, large sums were diverted into personal accounts (with accounting notes such as ‘for website design’, ‘business cards’ and ‘banners and flags’) or paid out as salaries to people who did little or no work (most of the defendants deny the charges and none have been tried).

New polling suggests a majority of New Zealanders support only allowing citizens to vote in general elections.
The polling, conducted by Curia Market Research for the Taxpayers’ Union, also finds more Labour, Green Party, Te Pāti Māori and Act supporters advocated for the policy than were against it, despite all four parties opposing it.
The poll, obtained by the Herald, came after New Zealand First announced in July it would campaign on limiting voting to only New Zealand citizens, with leader Winston Peters arguing citizenship created a formal bond of allegiance, belonging, responsibility and democratic authority that did not extend to those on permanent residence visas.
One thousand people were surveyed between August 1 and 4; 300 were polled online while the remaining 700 were contacted via landline or cellphone. The margin of error was 3.1%.
Of those polled, 59% responded “Yes” when asked: “Should voting in general elections be restricted to New Zealand citizens only?”

For me this is a huge conundrum, as NZ1st policies are good (except for only Citizens allowed to vote – if iot was cheaper to become one, I’d consider it more seriously ,else there are no other advantages except opening the door to Australia). None of the parties on the right cater for my wish list…. got to vote for the least worst, or split my vote. However, all of them have time to stuff something up…… reducing the choices…
Every one of the parties WILL disappoint. The only option is the party who sways voters they will do more of what you want rather than stuff up the country completely.
My vote party vote it is a toss up between NZF and ACT. Both are far from perfect. No, I don’t fully trust Peters but they seem on a better path for NZ with mining and other benefits for kiwis.
As for the whole jab debacle, Winston’s initial approval of the jab is far less egregious than Seymour’s all in belief including mandates.
Winston has also steadfastly refused to allow NZ to sign up to the U.N. pandemic plan.
This lady was in involved in Matt King’s party but got out when the controversies occurred. I was told before the blow up she was really good –working extremely hard in her rural electorate, so it will be interesting to see how she goes.

Mt Maunganui is owned by IWI, namely Ngāi Te Rangi, Ngāti Ranginui, and Ngāti Pūkenga.
I bet WorkSafe won’t take the IWI owners to Court over the fatalities at the Campground at Mt Maunganui after January’s landslip. Not a chance with IWI being a protected species.
It’s in a trust. So who are they going to take to court? What about the commissioners who were in charge and the council before them? There’s a long history of this. Also, the sites were in the hands of Bay Venues, a company in its own right. Their directors are culpable as well, as the deaths etc happened on their site. No safety plan etc. That’s where WorkSafe should/will go. That’s why they get the big money.

Avoiding accountability for negligence, that’s the NZ way
Laws, like many others, yap on but actually don’t know shit about it all. This history goes back well before this council and this manager. Indeed, we should be asking the Commissioners and the previous councils why this wasn’t attended to. It might well pay Laws to look in his own space and see what happens in a floof. There’s no accountability there.
We should go way back to the days of three previous mayors to Crosby, who of course, became part of the Local Bodies bullshit and is now a Regional Councillor. It really does go back that far. Included in his time was the 2006 floods, after which the council developed a proper stormwater plan that is just about complete now. But no one in all that time did anything about the mount despite there being plenty of slips, rocks falling and being removed from the face.
I have pics of the mount going back into the 1800’s that show slips. If you go stay at the Oceanside Hotel, I can tell you that the water comes up through the parking basement floor. It always has and has to be pumped away. The hydraulic pressure of the tides does that and when you combine a very wet season where our aquifier, that extends from the Kaimais right out to the sea, if very topped up and we had moons around that time that moves water, high tides and alot of rain on the mount it self then something was always going to happen. NZ First launches ‘Use It or Lose It’ dairy policy.
New Zealand First is proposing changes to the Dairy Industry Restructuring Act 2001 to incentivise investment in value-added dairy manufacturing in New Zealand.
The ‘Use It or Lose It’ policy would give qualifying manufacturers investing in new value-added dairy production access to up to 500 million litres of Fonterra milk per year for ten years, by lifting existing regulatory settings tenfold from 50 million litres at present.
The Lactalis sale should be a turning point, not the end of the manufacturing line.
Fonterra has made its choice. Now New Zealand must make our choice.
Fonterra was created by Parliament to build a dairy co-operative of extraordinary scale to sell milk and dairy products, and Parliament has the right and the responsibility to ensure the system to turns our milk into the maximum possible value for New Zealand jobs, wages, skills, and exports.
The legislation currently allows independent processors to access up to 50 million litres of milk per season, but this is too low to incentivise manufacturing of substantial scale, so we will lift it tenfold to 500 million litres.
The current regime can help investors start, but it is specifically designed not to help them reach industrial scale, and that is not appropriate now that Fonterra has sold its own consumer products.
The current rules tell investors: don’t bother. That must change.
Under the policy, qualifying manufacturers could access up to 500 million litres annually for the first six years. The entitlement would then taper to 80 per cent, 60 per cent, 40 per cent and 20 per cent over the following four years before ending, as an incentive on the market to ‘use it or lose it’ by investing now in New Zealand-based dairy manufacturing prospects.
To qualify, you need to establish a dairy product manufacturing base in New Zealand marketing ‘New Zealand dairy’ to the world.
Milk would not be subsidised. Manufacturers would pay the farm gate milk price plus efficient collection and delivery costs.
Fonterra and farmers would be fairly compensated, but this provides certainty to new investment in the dairy market to diversify, secure New Zealand jobs, and add value to New Zealand milk.
This is certainty for any business willing to manufacture dairy products in New Zealand.
The proposal would be advanced through the current review of the Dairy Industry Restructuring Act, for which the next Minister of Agriculture is due to report to Parliament in 2027.
We want industry in New Zealand. If investors want to invest more in higher-value manufacturing, then our economic settings should welcome them.
Build the factories. Build the brands. Take New Zealand dairy products to the world.

Farmers wanting use a drone to spray crops have been forced to wait up to nine months and spend thousands of dollars for permission. Meanwhile, Australian farmers can use drones weighing up to 150 kilograms under simple licensing. It’s hard to see how anyone thought that was going to help New Zealand compete.
Farmers raised the problem through the Red Tape Tipline, the Ministry for Regulation investigated, and today James Meager and I announced we’re fixing it.
Under the new rules, lower-risk work such as spraying crops or spreading fertiliser will no longer require farmers to apply for certification and wait months for approval. They will simply notify the Civil Aviation Authority ahead of time.
A spraying job that takes a drone twenty minutes can take a tractor over an hour. The technology works, but the rules just haven’t kept up.
Higher-risk operations will still have to meet the existing requirements, as they should. But the current rules turn what is routine work in other countries into a nine-month bureaucratic ordeal. It’s a perfect example of regulation not reflecting the actual risk involved.
Kiwi farmers are among the most innovative in the world. Give them the freedom to use better technology, and they will help unlock New Zealand’s potential.

our neighbour in aussie runs 4 spray drones, they do a pretty average job tbh but i think thats got to do with using a lower water rate vs normal sprayer.
might be different here in nz as we have tiny fuck around paddocks but operators will be wanting to save time and money and probs shortcut and low water rate aswell.
the gorse ive seen drone sprayed was fucking appalling, i could do more damage just pissing on a gorse bush. they certainly wont be replacing a chopper or gorse truck any time soon.

Police are considering introducing body-worn cameras for officers but say more work is needed before any permanent rollout.
The police service has begun market research on potential cameras but is yet to secure funding or Cabinet approval and hasn’t started looking for a potential provider.
Request for information (RFI) documents show police are interested in solutions that “are suitable for operational policing environments and extended use” of 12 hours or more.

The German prosecutors said that the suspect was a “trained scuba diver” who belonged to a group of people who “planted explosives” on the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines in the Baltic Sea near the Danish island of Bornholm.
The undersea explosions on September 26, 2022, damaged the pipelines, which had been built to carry Russian natural gas to Germany under the Baltic Sea.
The damage added to tensions over the war in Ukraine as European countries moved to wean themselves off Russian energy sources after the Kremlin’s full-scale invasion of its neighbour.
