David Craig writes:

Amnesty International forgets its original purpose

Amnesty International used to be one of the world’s most respected campaigning groups.

Amnesty International is a London-based non-governmental organisation formed to focus on human rights, in particular the rights of people imprisoned for their political or religious beliefs. Over the decades, Amnesty International has been hugely influential in drawing the world’s attention to prisoners like Nelson Mandela and many thousands of other deserving cases.

But like almost all such organisations, Amnesty International got a serious case of lefty, anti-West, anti-Israel scope creep. In addition to campaigning for prisoners of conscience, Amnesty got involved in campaigning for things like “economic, social and cultural rights” and access to abortion for women. Also, Amnesty became increasingly anti-Western trying to prosecute US President George W Bush for war crimes and, of course, like all lefty organisations, Amnesty became enthusiastically pro-Palestinian and anti-Israel. One speaker at an Amnesty International event stated that he would “dance with delight if Iran attacked Israel”while a senior Amnesty International boss called democratic Israel a “scum state”.

Is Amnesty becoming a new bunch of Warmie idiots?

The Guardian newspaper has just reported that Kumi Naidoo, Amnesty’s recently appointed secretary general (August 2018) and a former head of Greenpeace International, will make the climate crisis and economic rights by eliminating poverty a central focus of the organisation’s work.

Let’s hold on here for a minute. Amnesty International was set up specifically to draw attention to human rights abuses of prisoners of conscience. And millions of people have donated to Amnesty for that the purpose. So, wtf are Amnesty bosses doing spending their time and donors’ money on the supposed “climate crisis”? Aren’t there enough fake charities and other lefty, anti-Western organisations like Greenpeace and the laughable Extinction Rebellion blethering on about the non-existent climate crisis?

As for campaigning for economic rights through the elimination of poverty, here are the mission statements of a few other lefty, anti-Western, virtue-signalling, self-serving supposed charities who are always demanding ever more of our money:

Wasting your money?

As Amnesty moves away from its original purpose, it seems that top management have embarked on a massive spending spree – on themselves.

Amnesty has just announced that it expected to make 93 “painful and difficult”redundancies. Last week, it emerged that five members of the charity’s senior leadership team, all of whom offered their resignations following a damning review, will be made redundant by October.

In April, the Guardian reported scores of jobs would go after management admitted to a hole in it’s budget of up to 17 million pounds to the end of 2020.

Unite, the UK’s biggest trade union, said the redundancies were a direct result of “overspending by the organisation’s senior leadership team” and have occurred “despite an increase in income”

Conclusion

The Amnesty International you may once have supported no longer exists. Instead, Amnesty has become just another bunch of self-serving, supposedly ‘progressive’, virtue-signalling, anti-Western, anti-Israel, eco-loons with their high salaries, jet-setting lifestyles collecting airmiles and staying in luxury hotels and with a never-satisfied hunger for your money.

Don’t waste your money.

  1. isn’t the answer to every problem that if the third world stop breeding that sustainability wouldn’t be an issue?

Third world people, when they have overrun my lot will not do anything in their turn to save the planet. They all need a tv in the bedroom, having sex is too expensive for the planet if you don’t take individual responsibility.

  2. That is the only time that I have been able to stand watching Ricky Gervais, my first instinct was not to watch it. it is true though, and then all of the layers or management above that.

  3. Lots of NGO’s have been taken over by the far left. A friend quit Forest and Bird after they were taken over by Greenpeace.

    • Forest and Bird have banned E.Bikes from the new West Coast walk. Mountain bikes are deemed okay but you can’t have all those baby boomers out enjoying themselves by riding the track with a little battery help. //

      • Really they want it to be exclusive. I was watching AM and their ex coaster guest didn’t want bike wheel tracks on the walking tracks. Lots of baby boomers need a little battery help lol.

      • I am 75 and do not require an E-bike. I just take a little longer and walk the occasional hill.

        • Not everyone is as able as you Chuck. Bro-in-law has E.bike due to 2 knee replacements. They ride up to 50k some days.

      • Banning eBikes? Julie Anne Genter won’t be amused. How else will she able to virtue signal if she cannot use her eBike like she did with her baby’s birth?

  4. Its Animal Farm.

These organisations like Greenpeace and Amnesty typically started out with people connected to the core issues of their Raison d’etre.
They built up an organisation, connect with donors, and therefore grew.
Through skilled management and clear objectives they become bigger and more influential with a Brand and reputation.
The founders hit their (around) 20 year mark and there is a well oiled organisation.
They have a tendency then, after a lot of low paid hard work, to ease off the day to day handling and at that point become targets of the freeloaders and lefties.
    They are soft targets.
The predators are too lazy to do the hard yards to build an entity so hijack an organisation that has a reputation for ‘Good’.

The Nasties target them, get their pals in, and a takeover occurs.
This happened with the Green Party in NZ.
It has happened with the NZ Salvation Army and more.
It happened pretty quickly with CORSO in NZ in the late 1970s so these Nasties have form.
My sister’s flatmate was with them. He had a ‘company’ car and never got out of bed before 10.00am.
    Muldoon saw through their crap.

We can look back now at the likes of Nándor Tánczos in the NZ Green Party as relatively benign compared to the screaming, hate-filled shrews of today such as Ghahraman and Davidson.
It is part of the march through the institutions.

The Daily Mail has been following Oxfam for a few years now and reporting on its subpar behaviour.
    Just today:
    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/wires/ap/article-7128447/Charity-watchdog-condemns-Oxfam-Haiti-behavior.html
Just another day in ‘Charity land’. Extract:
“Penny Mordaunt, who was Britain’s top development official at the time the revelations emerged, warned that sex predators were targeting aid organizations because of the chaotic environments in which they work.”

OxFam in NZ was set up by Fail Twyford. We know he has not an ounce of business nous and any honour he may have (cough!) is well disguised.
The next Director of Oxfam in NZ for more than 10 years was Barry Coates who became a (white male) Green Party MP.
These institutions end up with some pretty dodgy individuals.

  5. Add the Sallies to this list another organisation that seems to have forgotten their goals if they want to become a political force as they have shown the last few years then they should lose their charitable status oh & another glorious thing about living back in Invers its to damn cold for the chuggers to stand around pissing off people going about their business, the only ones that get my coin these days are the boys & girls selling raffles for school sports events or activities at least then you have a rough idea where its going

  6. Greenpeace has moved through the same cycle. Instead of a bunch of devoted volunteers dedicated to the cause that got them going, they are now a left wing lobby group full of highly paid “executives” with expense accounts and the carbon footprints to show for it. I had some close ties to Greenpeace in the 80s; now I wouldn’t piss on them if they were on fire.
