Dallas Pendergast, who co-owns Glenfield Mall on Auckland’s North Shore with her husband Ross, told the Epidemic Response Committee that forcing their tenants to endure another two weeks of lockdown is “unacceptable”.
“This will cause many of them to fail and at the same time push them to the point where they can no longer contain the significant amount of stress that comes when people are put into situations that are out of their control.”
“Our Prime Minister is asking landlords to show compassion. We’re already doing that. We’re already trying hard to support our tenants in every way,” Pendergast told the committee.
“It’s naïve to say ‘show some compassion’. Compassion doesn’t pay our bills. Doesn’t the New Zealand Government realise the landlords’ overheads continue as well? Clearly, they have completely failed to take it into account.”

The only valid comparison is Per Capita.
On a per capita basis we are surprisingly high for a tiny isolated Island. Countries with far higher denser populations and porous borders, with less restrictive measures, often have lower infection rates.
The only thing the lockdown killed off was the economy and our freedom.

Taiwan has 23,000,000 people. Their population density per square kilometre is 681 odd. They have 18 cases per million people. They have 0.3 deaths per million people.
They have had 429 cases – TOTAL.
They have had 6 deaths – TOTAL.
And from this, they look to have had a healthy tourism market.
They had no lockdown either. They simply had pro-active leadership that kicked things into being at the end of December. But that’s because they have leadership; not the fucking showpony hanging out for photographs with her Christchurch call mates.
Somebody should tell Cindy Fluffikins to sit down, shut up and let the grown-up countries show us how its done.
Plus they actually elected their PM and she has the added bonus of being intelligent and not a socialist.
