What is one of the most incredible medical procedures you’ve ever heard of?
One of the most mind-blowing cases I’ve come across is that of a Chinese factory worker named Xie Wei, who suffered a severe hand injury in 2013. After a serious accident severed his hand, doctors pulled off something extraordinary to save it—they temporarily grafted it to his ankle.
Yes, you read that right. Since the arm was too damaged to reattach the hand immediately, surgeons connected it to his left leg, using the blood vessels in his ankle to keep the hand alive. The goal was to maintain blood flow so the tissues wouldn’t die. Although the hand stayed warm (a good sign), it was completely numb, because nerves weren’t connected—just the vessels.
Xie said his leg felt mostly normal during that time, just a little heavier than usual. After about a month, once his arm had healed enough, surgeons successfully reattached the hand where it belonged.
After the surgery, he could twist his wrist slightly but couldn’t move his fingers yet. Doctors told him it would likely take around six months for the nerves to regrow and potentially restore full function.
That’s handy.
Handy if you’ve got an itchy foot.
Bugger to put your socks on.
They did a similar operation on Chloe, the main difference being they stuck her foot in her mouth. I hear it was a great success.
Dunno. Think she needs a bigger foot.

That is 12 years ago
what was the actual outcome after 12 years
it ends with
…..After the surgery, he could twist his wrist slightly but couldn’t move his fingers yet. Doctors told him it would likely take around six months for the nerves to regrow…..
so all things being equal
it sounds like a good story …..that did not end in success or we would have been informed of that.
