Money does grow on trees

Jesus Yepez, an architect who lives in Caracas has found John McDonnell’s “money tree” in the street. The tree is made of almost worthless bolívares soberanos, since Venezuela’s hyperinflation means $1 is worth well over 5,000 bolívares soberanos. “Many people commented that that is what our currency has turned into: Monopoly money,” he said“It’s an ingenious protest for the insane inflation we’ve been experiencing.”

UPDATE: $1 is actually worth 321,385.39 bolívares soberanos.

  1. Not a bad effort up there with Zimbabwe, Maduro has only been in power since 2013, Prior to him the currency was set about 6 Bolivars, first thing he did was used new economics powers to depreciate the Bolivar 37%, it hit hyperinflation in 2016 and the rest is history. The 37% was the beginning of the end, it said let’s spend what we don’t have. The left are so good at this.
The life lesson for my friends like Fairydust, leaders with specific views can totally destroy an economy in a parliamentary term. I can think of numerous leftists who sang this idiots praises in the initial period. Of course, it is all blamed on Trump now.
So you can have some of the best oil reserves in the world, yet a socialist somehow manages to starve the entire population except for a few elite around him.
I wonder what sort of pay rise the teachers there need to be able to eat, when you have inflation running at 65,000%, wages are basically worthless.
The great socialist way, screwing all except the leaders.

  2. There is no comparison between NZ and Venezuela. We are no where at that stage and never will be. Just because this govt is putting the interests of the poor above the rich for once doesn’t mean the sky is falling. Youse are just pissed at not getting your tax cuts. Bo hoo.

    • There is no comparison between NZ and Venezuela yet.

There, I fixed it for you. Given enough time, Ardern and Peters will make sure we’ll be racing Venezuela to the bottom of the heap.

    • The “youse” affectation intrigues me, Fairy. If you are not in fact a joke account, and you wish to be taken seriously here, why do you “talk” like some kind of under-educated Westie feral?

    • No comparison, no shit Sherlock I guess I would have noticed 66,000% inflation very quickly. No one is making a comparison, I have to agree things will never get that bad, but when the money runs low and the screws go on, welfare will suffer, you need taxpayers to have a welfare system, people employing people, not governments employing people.
If you are so worried about the poor, get out create an empire and employ a shitload of people. You won’t feed the poor sitting contemplating how bad the right are.
