A statement said: The event, to be held at Horncastle Arena in Christchurch at 3pm tomorrow 15 March 2020, was expected to attract a large crowd, with many travelling from around New Zealand and from overseas.

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern says while we still have no community transmission of Covid-19 in New Zealand, we are taking a precautionary approach to protect the health of all New Zealanders.

“This is a pragmatic decision. We’re very saddened to cancel, but in remembering such a terrible tragedy, we shouldn’t create the risk of further harm being done.

“The advice we received for this event, is that based on people travelling from different parts of the country and from overseas, if there was a case it could be difficult to trace those who had come into contact with that person, so we are taking a cautious approach.

What a mess of bobble head indecisiveness to last minute this.
“and from overseas”
Many will have already arrived recently in this past week.
Some may be in the midst of catching planes to come to NZ.
Have they jumped through other countries, before flying onto NZ?
Would they cancel their supposed return flights, with no refund?
So are they going to “self isolate” here in NZ, ?
Soon, will they even be able to use that return ticket?

  1. “The advice we received for this event, is that based on people travelling from different parts of the country and from overseas, if there was a case it could be difficult to trace those who had come into contact with that person, so we are taking a cautious approach.”

It’s exactly the same argument for cancelling the Pacifica Festival earlier this week so the only reason for not announcing cancellation of the mosque commemoration earlier was her own hubris.

Halleluja! Finally she got to the right decision. 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡

  2. Dawah is an important part in the life of muslims and the now recognized “shaheeds” of Christchurch needs to be known.
It is all in the politics of islam, that Ardern is trying to ride.

Da‘wah is also described as the duty to “actively encourage fellow Muslims in the pursuance of greater piety in all aspects of their lives”, a definition which has become central to contemporary Islamic thought. …..
…… His mission as the final prophet was to repeat to the whole world this call and invitation (dawa) to Islam.
Muhammad wrote to various non-Muslim rulers, inviting them to convert.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dawah

So Ardern’s adhan call to convert, to be heard again across the land, is as essential as her “Christchurch Call, all to be done digitally, tv, radio, etc… across the land, but not with such an attendant audience.

Never mind; the Dubai’s highest tower will safely put up some major light show of her again.
Plus some nice photo shoot, angles will be recycled. 🙁

  3. Well my dinner of pork ribs with sticky rice and sweet chilly sauce washed down with copious quantities of Aussie Shiraz is going ahead as planned. I do not intend to let the day an Aussie terrorist aided and possibly even abetted by our incompetent prime minister and her thug puppet police force f*cked up our country so badly go by unmarked.

    • Yup, considering that Ardern did everything her fellow leftie Tarrant said she would do is lost on many. She followed his instructions to the letter. She created him, she changed the laws that allowed him to be and then she banned his manifesto to ensure nobody who didn’t read it in those few hours would know of it.

Your plan sounds like a good one.

    • We won’t be giving Christchurch any thought. Nothing much has changed and it’s not a big thing up here in the North Island.

The massacre happened from a dumb Aussie who had an agenda I don’t agree with. I’m more annoyed that the updated system allowed Tarrant to bypass proper firearrm licensing checks after Ardern chaired the committee that loosened the laws for Tarrant to buy 3000 rounds of ammunition after only a few months in NZ. Did the firearms officer even check with the cops in Tarrant’s Aussie home town where he was known for being “weird”.

Sunday will be spent here with visiting family who have NO inclination to think of Christchurch commemorations. We shall enjoy plenty of wine and probably fish and chips from the local, and then some more wine! 😎

      • PM Jacinda Ardern herself chaired the committee that enabled the aussie shooter to dlip through the door left wide open!

  4. Her media and production teams have developed a plan of saturation coverage about how wonderful and caring the Surpreme Leader is.

We are not out of the woods people.

  5. Why was she planning it for Sunday anyway ? Friday is the important day of the week for Muslims.

Was there a backlash on social media that she reacted to ?

    • A group of Christchurch muslim met in the Port Hills above Christchurch yesterday to spend time TOGETHER with their families and without any interlopers or the glare of the media. Their spokesman said they did not intend to attend the official commemorations on Sunday.

      • So the muslims were going to be there.
That would be a bit embarrassing, no wonder she cancelled!

      • Were the women one side of the hills and the men on the other? I cannot believe they co mingled as “families together” very un-sharia like.

  6. She’s a slow learner.
Everyone said this was a dumb idea, but SLG was hoping to don the headscarf and cash in on her capital from a year ago with a bit more eyebrow knitting and hugging people she doesn’t know.

    By the way:
Anyone else notice that for a non-Muslim SLG has one helluva collection of headscarves.
She seems to get all her clothes from St Vincent de Paul’s and they’d hardly have a bulk special on hijabs.

Kiwis encouraged to ‘come together and reflect’ despite memorial cancellation

New Zealanders are being encouraged to “come together and reflect” on the events of March 15, despite the cancellation of tomorrow’s memorial.

She encouraged New Zealanders to welcome the Christchurch Invitation, which was launched by the imams of the two mosques involved in the attack – Linwood Islamic Centre and Al Noor.

The invitation encouraged the public to work on making a real difference in their communities.

“The Chirstchurch invitation is something that all of us can adhere to, lead to, listen to and share with others,” Ms Dalziel said.

  9. DPF has thread on how several high profile people were calling her out and presumably it was on social media. So it is not hard to read between the lines on why she cancelled it (NB. it is cancelled not postponed)

  10. Looks like Ardern has another “knee jerk” reaction to criticism that they have done nothing by now introducing the “toughest measures in the world” (to quote her).
If there was not going to be a recession there will be now. No cruise ships until June, everyone except those coming from the Pacific have to go into a 2 week isolation period, planes and other ships can still come in.

    • Thats the tourism industry fucked good and propper.

In Rotorua, Patchels have laid of 24 staff. No demand for logging trucks.

Tauranga wharf has died. No logging trucks.

      Malls gone quite.

    • Setting a great example isn’t she. Basically makes Ardern’s “strongest measures in the world” look totally stupid.

  11. The timing of the 14 day quarantine has been established so that it does not include cast members in the 15 March political rally media show.

    What a vile cynical bitch.

  12. Sky sport.
If they thought times were tough…
They will have very little to show.
Watch the punters clear out in droves.

The fledgling Spark Sport will not fare any better.
