China dangles $39bn carrot to build city on Australia’s doorstep.
By Ben Packham.
A Chinese company says it wants to build a new $39bn city with a major seaport, industrial area and free-trade zone on Papua New Guinea’s south coast, just kilometres from Australian territory.
Having the CCP on their doorstep is bound to get the Aussies upset
I have no doubt chin dribble will be sent to sort them out.
Seems like the Morrison government are not too concerned with this conjecure.
PM sceptical of new Chinese city on our doorstep
The Morrison government will look closely at a Chinese company’s plan to build a new city in PNG, but it believes the proposal is unlikely to gain support from the Marape government.

All so far behind paywalls.
A nuclear or coal powered electricity station would be needed to run the air conditioners & de-humidifiers.
It should be nuclear to save the planet.
More detail here,
It comes after the Fujian Zhonghong Fishery Company, which is controlled by the Chinese government, recently inked a Memorandum of Understanding with the PNG government to build a $204million fishery complex in Daru – an area of PNG which has no commercial fisheries.

China will move in, even if just a small way to gain a toe hold, and a potential future navy base.
Their pillaging fleets will then decimate the fish stocks in the entire region leaving barren oceanic wastelands. They’re like locusts.
Yep. Then they will send them to
New Zealand to rape the seabeds
here.
They also have the world’s biggest Muslim nation a dingy ride away.
The Indonesians are no friends of the Chinese. Perversely, the actions of the CCP will drive the Australians and Indonesians closer diplomatically.
Interesting they have a Moa Island up that way, I’m surprised the Maoris haven’t put in a claim yet.
I suspect Australia getting concerned should be followed by New Zealand getting alongside as we are also vulnerable if this move is not benign. China and the CCP have a long game. This proposal is close to us and with potential to impact on us if China is keen on expanding fishing further South or determines to exploit the natural gas reserves. The large port could/will have naval capacity.
I am not comfortable our government has the nous to deal with this Chinese encroachment closer to us and further into the South Pacific.
Our government needs to stand alongside Australia without any dumb comments or unwanted advice from Damian O’Connor.
If this is proceeded with, it will probably follow the Zim and Congo models where-by the city and area become little outposts of the CCP, complete with workers / slaves flown in and the entire area being off -limits to all and any locals, the Police being under instructions to both return any ‘escaped’ slaves to the terrotory, and to not cross the boundary fence / border.
And should a local politician decide to suddenly become all ‘honest’ about CCP influence and kickbacks, then the Salties will no doubt dine well…
Looks like aussie will be building missile silos in the northern territory in the near future…
On the topic of foreign affairs I wonder what NZ’s position is on a UN body judging if Israel is guilty of war crimes against the Palestine.
I expect nothing less than an objective evidence based decision. That criteria would exclude Green Party participation in any decision based on past pronouncements and inappropriate actions taken by their members in Parliament.
