Free Speech! White House Refuses to Sign New Zealand Censorship Call

Oh dear, not every one is taken in by our PM select grandstanding in Paris

The White House slammed both Google and Facebook over the First Amendment when it passed on a New Zealand plea for censorship of online content.

The Washington Post reported that while other foreign powers sign on to the Christchurch Call to Eliminate Terrorist and Violent Extremist Content Online, the White House refused. The White House said in a statement that it “is not currently in a position to join the endorsement.” On May 14, a White House official said that the administration “will continue to be proactive in our efforts to counter terrorist content online while also continuing to respect freedom of expression and freedom of the press.”

Piss off you silly little girl. Leave world affairs to those who can actually do something other than just frown and wave their hands.

Facebook and Google, as well as other Big Tech companies, had signed on to the document, which was aimed to prevent the uploading and disseminating of “terrorist and violent extremist content.” This includes “closing accounts when appropriate” and “enforcing applicable laws.”

Some of the “applicable laws” include the arrest of people who shared the objectionable content.Users in New Zealand were arrested and put in jail for sharing the video of the New Zealand shooter.

Amazon, Microsoft, Twitter, and YouTube also signed onto the call.

The White House seemed to rebuke these companies for joining the call, saying, “We maintain that the best tool to defeat terrorist speech is productive speech, and thus we emphasize the importance of promoting credible, alternative narratives as the primary means by which we can defeat terrorist messaging.”

Several countries, including Canada, the E.U., France, and Norway, had signed on to New Zealand’s initiative.

Recently, Facebook banned six controversial individuals as “dangerous voices” on its platform. On May 15, Facebook also announced that simply sharing a link from a “known terrorist group” would result in a ban from broadcasting live videos from the platform.

  1. Facebook, Google, Twitter etc are all against free speech, so it’s an easy sign on for them.

I had thought Microsoft had a bit more brains than that. In the past, they’ve been more interested in making money than virtue signalling.

  2. This is actually staggering. A tiny insignificant formerly Western country with the total population size of a decent sized Chinese suburb has effectively fertilised a worldwide movement to deny the right of free expression to literally hundreds of millions of people!

Be afraid. This is not a droll, people. This is real. Now.

    • If I had proof read my comment properly, the word ‘droll’ would have read ‘drill’. But I guess it’s not droll either, so WTF. ?

    • The countries and firms that have signed it were against free-speech prior to this call. All they needed was an excuse.

As the Left like to say “You never let a serious crisis go to waste. And what I mean by that it’s an opportunity to do things you think you could not do before. ” – Rahm Emanuel … a former Mayor of Chicago, a member of the Democratic Party (but I repeat myself), a former Representative of the US House, a former Chief of Staff under Obama and all round nasty piece of work.

      • It used to be the unwritten rule in Chicago- if you weren’t Irish, you ain’t gettin’ nowhere in this town. Boy have times changed sigh…

    • With all due respect for this fantastic country, to the rest of the world- “Who the f*ck is JA?” “Isn’t NZ part of Australia?” “You guys have crocodiles right?” What real influence does she think she has? Visions of Splendor and Delusions of Grandeur.

  3. Strangely this waste of jet fuel was hardly mentioned by most news outfits I read and when it was it was after the cooking/entertainment section.

The harridan has done nothing but electioneer since selected and this was just another example of doing anything to keep away from real politics.

  4. Youse comments on here should be subject to censorship sometimes. The constant critisism of Jacinda is not fair. How else would she get to Paris in time if she didn’t fly.

    • Anti-censorship is why we do this! The more the media makes her out to be some sort of false god, the more we like to ridicule. Someone has to keep the reality light on.

    • Morning Fairy, your maths lesson for the day, remember when Jacinda delayed her trip by a day to feed the faceless one, With no regard to the planet frying as a direct result of her selfish decision, burnt off around 24,000 kg of av gas.
Little mean right winger me would travel to the same destination and burn 117 kg of fuel. So I would use less than one half of a percent than Cindy and be saving you from burning and frying in hell in just over a decade from now, so I have children keep informing me.
Actually in real fact, I would have saved 100%, I wouldn’t have gone. Big difference is I pay for the 117kg and they ask me to pay more to forgive my sin of flying.
Cindy as A Socialist elite sees it as her god given right to push tin around NZ and the world like there is no tomorrow.
Short answer, she can fly yes, does she need to use the worst gas guzzling plane available today with a handful of people, I wouldn’t think so. She is the true example of the worlds greatest hypocrite when it comes to pushing tin, it is waste on steroids.
Fact Fairy, 757 200 burns just under 5 kgs a minute.
She is just like all the rich actors, do as I say not as I do.
You can do the maths on Europe they will be eye watering. I very doubt you can actually, but prove me wrong.
They call the 757 the “Porsche of the air”, huge power and as I said burns just under 5 kg fuel a minute, that’s why they have all but disappeared, only greedy earth destroyers like Cindy use them. She is a planet destroyer out of control.
Happy flying Fairy and have a nice day. Are you a planet flying destroyer or just sit at the desk and worship the great tin pusher of our time.
Please calculate her annual carbon footprint, I am so excited to see it.

  5. Fairydust not on one single occasion have you ever supported your sometimes outrageous child like statements, have your minders given you what to say, thus you cannot argue further to your statements, a little sad for you and us, I find your little gems of knowledge very entertaining, quite immature much of the time, but entertaining.
    Keep them coming.

    • I suspect Fairydust is a wolf in sheeps clothing.

The deliberate use of “youse” reminds me of red herrings used by an educated person.

  6. China would presumably have no trouble signing it. Wouldn’t that be a feather in Jacinda’s cap?
