Green MP Golriz Ghahraman gets a security escort after increased threat level

Green MP Golriz Ghahraman has been allocated a security escort after receiving threats that were deemed by police to be serious enough to warrant an escort.

It is understood the threat level has been escalated following an interview where Act MP David Seymour said she was a menace to freedom because of her views on hate speech.

Speaking to media, Ghahraman said the decision for her to have a security escort was also as a result a Newshub investigation into white supremacy, where threats against her were revealed.

“As you can imagine, it’s distressing to have secret white supremacist groups talking about you.”

The police have deemed the threats she has received as serious enough to warrant the extra security.

Ghahraman said the security escort would mainly be made up of parliamentary security, but the security plan was drawn up with the police.

They will accompany her when she leaves Parliament.

“They have deemed the threat to be at a level that this is necessary,” she said.

Her understanding of the threats was that there was language that is “triggering of certain communities”.

She won’t, however, have the security escort when she is within Parliament.

Ghahraman said the security risk was going to be reassessed every sitting period – so every three weeks.

It is not known at this time how long the extra security would be with her.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said decisions about extra security are made by security and police.

“I don’t believe that would be decisions taken likely,” she said and added it would have been a decision that was based on the best information.

Ardern said a decision was operational.

Seymour said any threats against any MP were “appalling” and people who make the threats should be held to account.

However, he said he did not regret the comments he made and said he should be allowed to hold Ghahraman to account for her comments.

He said it was “fairly held criticism”.

He told media today he and Ghahraman have “robust debates” where she “gives as good as she gets”.

“We should be blaming the people making these disgusting threats – not trying to politicise it by blaming a particular politician.”

After an interview with radio station Magic Talk, National MP Judith Collins jumped to Ghahraman’s defence.

“Please don’t refer to Golriz in this way. I do not agree with almost anything she says but she is a person and it does not assist political debate to dehumanise her like that.”

The only other MP in New Zealand that receives a security escort is the Prime Minister.

  1. Best thing for Golriz is for her not to get back into Parliament during the next election. I wonder where she will be on the list?

    • Could this be why she is getting her profile up. All about the list rankings for next year? Who else have you heard about from these toxic dangerous people, but her.
It’s all about “look at me” with these fuckwits.

      • It should be good for David Seymour too, he was absolutely right to call her bluff. I hate to say it as female chauvenist, but there are a lot of women in Parliament who shouldn’t be there, because they can’t handle being treated as equals.

        • Yep, they have committee of the bitches who are now attacking Seymour. Worse than mad dogs. Trevor needs to haul them up for bullying but no he made it clear that he thought Seymour crossed the line.
Parliaments worst bully running the hen house.

  2. Because Paddy Gower is such an expert investigative journalist who managed to track down, gain access and get ‘screenshots’ from a closed facebook group of NZ white supremacists….
If the screenshots are actually real, un-doctored or out of context, they read like retarded dark humor banter between associates, and not really a threat to anyone’s safety…

That ominious ‘I cant wait to see her on the streets’ comment…. Well I’d like to see her & David Seymour on the streets myself! I would shake Davids hand and thank him for being a voice of reason and sensibility in the madness of the last 2 months, and for ol Golly Gee, I would politely engage her in conversation and inform her that I share David’s sentiments and disagree with her statements and stance on hate speech (soon to be Triggering speech)

Isn’t there still child poverty or domestic violence raging in our country that is far more import issues for our politicians to focus on instead of this attention seeking?

  3. So if we say anything about this proven liar and ultimate subversive are we going to be visited by cindy’s hate speech enforcers?
Worse than the bloody mongrel mob.

Like Twyford the sooner she is gone from Parliament the better. how did we in NZ ever allow subversives of this type to become MP’s.
Oh hang on we have had them for years. Called the Labour Party.

  4. So now we have the Nats. supporting the Climate change bill into Parliament. Too frightened of their own shadow to just say piss off.

    • You beat me to it Viking, but Bridges has been on board from day 1. Shaw announced on a Friday last July that the development of the bill was to start. On the 5 o’clock radio news the same day Bridge’s offered bi-partisan support for a Climate Commissioner ( same as support for the Act as Shaw would never separate them).
Within minutes of getting home Bridge’s had an email, from me, telling him to forget my party vote, when in the past he could have taken it for granted. My position still stands.

      0

      0

    • Well Bridges did say that they would support stage one, I guess you have to have skin in the game if you want to put forward proposals to better the legislation?

      0

      0

      • Right RM nothing to be gained from standing alone against the legislation when there is more to be achieved with a bi-partisan approach. After the first reading it goes to the select committee for submissions which is where the bi-partisan approach will be of more significance. Suggest listening to the speeches Simon Bridges as well as Nick Smith on the debate of this Bill. Like it or lump it this Bill is the biggest treat to not only the Kiwi lifestyle but could be the most financially crippling legislation ever considered by any NZ Government.
Instrumental in the process will be the establishment of a Climate Commission where it requires people with the ability to review as well as evaluate sound scientific data. Not whimsical aspiration targets which seem to dominate COL policies as they fail along with the increasing number of unintended consequences. IMO the National strategy is to push for the Climate Commission to be established then have the proposed Bill to be referred to them for review even before it returns to the House for it’s second reading.
While the SLG might believe that global warming might be her nuclear moment this Bill in it’s raw state has the potential to wreck as much havoc as a real nuclear bomb minus the death toll not counting livestock. Lest we forget we now have a close example of complete voter rejection of the global warming scam where the polls indicated it had been swallowed hook line and sinker. Instead they got told to Foxtrot Oscar.

  5. I suspect if this test was applied evenly across all Parliamentarians, that we’d bankrupt the country providing security to everyone. Why stop at MPs? How about the CEs who are getting death threats from entitled nutters or 1080 terrorists or crims. So far no MPs have been killed but there have been a number of lowly paid case workers who’ve been murdered at their place of work?

Once again, we’re experiencing the towering vanity and victimhood of an extremist on the far left?

Want to bet that forever and a day we’re going to hear Golly G ‘Golrizing’ her cv about how “NZ is so dangerous and full of white supremacists” that she needs a security detail. And this will now become the gold standard in why we need:
    – speech and thought control
    – complete removal of all guns from the population
    – outlawing of all political opponents
    – suspension of elections
    – introduction of Sharia law

Golly G’s will be preening herself for being the first MP who’s managed to ‘level up’ to have her own security – she’s winning the left’s victimhood game. And will wrap that sanctimonious cloak around herself and use it as rational for her increasingly totalitarian ideas. Victimhood privilege 101.

Which returns us to the veracity of Seymour’s statement – she’s a menace to freedom in our society!

    • And FFS JC! what’s the matter with you? There is no ‘high road’ when dealing with the utterly amoral like GG. This is how the left wins, they rely upon the right playing by Marquis of Queensbury rules, while they’re working to the vile Alinsky rules of:
      – personalise everything
      – deplatform
      – de-fund
      – attack the families
      – seek to get disenters de-employed
      – boycott
      – violence excused as political activism (milk-shaking, dildo throwing, shit-tipping, egging etc)
      etc

      • Meanwhile DP the silent majority are watching aghast as the leftie protesters go absolutely berserk at every dissenting voice or anybody who fails to fit their mold. Even more so to a silent response where they can not be provoked to react. Who would ever have thought a smile could ever be considered a hate crime or so provocative.

    • Plus the white population will clearly need to be watered down by even more immigrants, preferably from Muslim countries, to acculturate us better?

Speaking for myself I do not want to be acculturated. I am quite cultured enough thanks.

    • Where are we suddenly getting all these extra cops. No wonder liabour went to the election promising 1800 extra cops. Did they know what was coming?
The fact that the promise is now only an “aspiration” and they aren’t getting many new cops means the rest of us have to wait for our burglaries etc to be seen to.

  6. On line chatter stating Goldriz would make a chandelier was a disgusting thing. So she now has a protection squad. What about James Shaw who was actually attacked on his way to work?

David Seymour saying Goldriz is a “menace to freedom” is an opposition politician expressing his valid concern for the crazy perspective of a Green politician. These two statements cannot be held in the same light. To make David Seymour out to be a white supremacist because he is doing his job and fighting for the freedom of free speech is beyond nuts. Is the outrage directed at Seymour due to some others attempting to protect Goldriz because she is a pretty woman with big doe eyes that needs protecting? Is sexism rearing it’s ugly head leaping to her defense? Is she not capable of acting like an adult and taking criticism from an opposition MP? In that case, she is in the wrong job. When I watched The Nation interview between Goldriz and Stephen Franks, Golly certainly did not allow Stephen Franks to have his say without her constant deriding interjection. Seems Golly is quite capable of standing up for her beliefs, crazy though they are.

    • Interesting that David Seymour is responsible for his “menace to freedom” comment that triggered certain communities….

what about the possibility that Golly Gees retarded statements are possibly responsible for triggering certain communities, and nothing to do with David Seymour at all…?

Reminds me of saying I once heard “before you criticize somebody else, try to keep in mind that you are probably a piece of shit.”

      • I was listening to Plunket when he did that interview with Seymour. There was nothing he said that in normal times could trigger the hysterical response we have seen so far.
It does seem to be a case of her being able to dish it out but no one can react.
No way is she a ‘green ‘ MP .The Greens need to rename themselves to suit the agenda they are pursuing.

  9. How long did it take for our intrepid reporter to find White supremacists in NZ, they must have been hiding in plain sight? Anyway I thought that discrimination and generalising about racial characteristics was on sight. So just by looking at me, I will be branded and automatically feel bad?

    • Are you saying Paddy just plucks these people out of thin air?
They must be there otherwise why would the police take the threats seriously?
Youse are dreaming if you think Paddy would deliberately make up this just for publicity.

      • Absolutely, he conflates everything and exaggerates, just by the words that he uses, alt- right, white, supremacy, right.

I laid a complaint with the broadcasting standards authority about him just before he left to become a roving reporter, or what ever he is.

Even though he was perfectly aware of the circumstances around David Garrett and the passport matter, Gower deliberately left the viewer with the impression that David was a serial offender and had done it more than once, Garner laughingly corrected him, but in my opinion that doesn’t mitigate mis-information. Perhaps he is a product of being bullied at school. I can imagine that he was and is now acting out. The mean kids were probably white or as I shall describe myself sometimes when I remember, ‘colourless’?

no way he doesn’t place in a “New Zealands ugliest man” competition.

  11. Golly has a picture on her cv of getting her arse tickled by a mas murderer in Rawnanda. I would presume out off frame are a few men with big scary machineguns, to protect her! You know better than the police peashooter in the pocket of her protection lady. Because she could not have a man protecting her.

    • So in Golly’s world, genocidal dictators are allowed a voice in their defence, but we aren’t allowed to call her a menace.

  12. Simply put she is a narcissistic show pony with nothing of value to add to our country except her particular version of activism (no not Ardern) and she dates a narcissistic soy boy cry baby that is about as funny as that dose of syphilis coming back to haunt you on a regular basis (once again not Ardern….honest) while i would wish violence on no-one doing their job i simply can’t believe a word that comes out of her mouth

  13. Can anybody tell me what the threshold for “white supremacy” is? It seems that we’re overrun with white supremacists all of a sudden, for which the only explanation I can think of is that the media have lowered the bar dramatically since the Ides of March. If I state that I’m sick of Maoris being handed public money, and I don’t like Muslim immigration, is that enough to get me a visit from Jacinda’s hate speech squad?

      • To be fair, I didn’t intend to express that, and I certainly don’t wish anybody dead. I was using the old “get fucked and die” insult to try and make a witty hypothetical point about the present climate of free speech suppression. But I admit my phrasing was careless, the wit failed abysmally, and it’s your house, your rules. I apologise again.
