Have Your Say

  1. FFS, can someone in that gaggle of queers, bisexuals, ex teachers, ex union officials ,ex lawyers and Maori radicals that pass for the labour party in 2022 have a quiet word in the stick insect Arderns ear about replacing her hair and makeup stylist.
Watching her on a sky news piece this morning she looks like a middle aged adult student attending an end of term party in the 1980s trying to look hip and failing miserably.
Does our prime minister at her age still not realize that she has hair on the back of her fucking head that also needs attention ?
You gotta get this stuff out before the Cnut and her cabal of megalomaniacs ban us from making statements about them.

  2. Is Jacinda Ardern, the most low rent Prime Minister and and is her Lover, Clarke Gayford not the most disgraceful and ungrateful Partner of any prime Minister, this country has ever seen?

So she and Albanese jack up what State Gifts they are going to give each other at their recent meeting in Sydney, in this case Vinyl Records, these State Gifts being paid for, by you, on the Taxpayers Dime, because sure as hell, Ardern will be paying for nothing out of her own pocket.

But the ungrateful Partner of the Prime Minister, Clarke Gayford says they are not good enough for him, a person who considers himself to be of the highest class, a man of distinction and a leader of fashion and taste. But sadly for Gayford, no one else does.

Gayford considers he has the right to make public derogatory comments about a State Gift his Lover agreed too. Gayford should consider and remember he is an unelected person getting extraordinary privileges, all while being paid for by you, the Taxpayer.

Gayford commented on the Gift contents:
“Midnight Oil, Spiderbait and The Finger????!!!! What is this, 2004???” he commented on his fiancee’s Instagram post.

Further, Gayford should remember, if these Gifts, the Vinyl Records have been paid for by either State, (Australia or NZ) they are not hers (Ardern’s) and they are certainly not his (Gayfords) to do what he or she likes, but they are the property of the people of New Zealand and he has no right to them or to comment on their suitability to him personally as he has done. They should be going into the National Archives and if they are personal gifts declared as such.

The man is of no class and the sooner the country is rid of the both of them, Ardern and Gayford, the sooner this country will improve.

  3. For all you people who enjoy drinking wine.

Arderns Government is going to bend you over again and dig deep into your wallet and pockets. Absolute arseholes.

    Scoop reports:

“With this latest increase, the excise rate on table wine will be $2.49 per bottle, charged to the winemaker, and before any retailer mark-ups. For a winery selling in the domestic market that is more than they pay on average for grapes, and is the equivalent of $30,000 tax per hectare.

“At a time when the government has rightly highlighted concerns about cost-of-living increases, further fuelling inflation by boosting excise seems to make little sense.”

  4. ‘Mike King Slams Ardern, Jackson over Mental Health and Funding Mahuta Family’

Courtesy of The Daily Examiner NZ, herewith a letter from Mike King to dl, asking about Mahuta-family funding (and expertise) in respect of suicide prevention.

I believe he raises valid points, but doubt dl to give it her attention.

  5. so bin thinking about our soldiers sent to the Ukraine.

I think that not since Vietnam have we sent combat forces to a war theatre. We have sent peacekeeping units to quite a few and we have managed our dignity around that.
This is a straight out war exercise with no attempt to talk to the voters about weather we should do this.

In Labour terms that should be almost a sackable offence given that right from the first labour govt. going to war was against their religion. Most were pacifists, including Savage and all his Cabinet.

So the question is how did we get to this situation?
What changed to make Labour do this?
What money has been syphened to whose bankaccount in Switzerland?

We have moved against a country that was a trading partner, that has never done NZ any harm and who has never invaded any other country except after being subject to horrendous invasions on its own land.

Of course it didn’t treat its own nor other citizens very well but neither has China, most of Europe and even America if one looks at the way things are in those places currently.

So what will be the cost to NZ?

Will these troops be subject to the same derision and appalling abuse when they return home. The likes of which Clark, Goff, et al dished out to them?
Will Jacinda behave badly and take the money?

Might ask the ACT candidate what their position is on this.

  6. Commonwealth Bank predicts when the RBA will cut rates
    Eliza Bavin
    Thu, 9 June 2022 at 6:03 pm·

The Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA) has predicted the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) will start slashing interest rates again, and it’s sooner than expected.

CBA’s head of Australian economics Gareth Aird said the bank believes the RBA will start cutting rates mid next year.

This comes after the RBA started lifting the cash rate for the first time in 12 years in May.

High rates create a cash flow problem for our Dollar.

  7. Viking ,your guns meme is right on ,I have family living in Georgia which allows “open carry” in many places ,he went to a local gun show just this week and tells me a mid range new Glock semi automatic pistol sells for around $650,00 .
That gun smuggled into our hermit kingdom is apparently worth 10 to 12 times that amount so you can see why gun smugglers are targeting NZ at this time, it’s probably a better payoff than smuggling drugs ….

One of Australia’s most controversial COVID-19 quarantine camps, Howard Springs Centre for National Resilience, will be closed by authorities, along with other vaccination and testing centres.

The Northern Territory government revealed that it would not be renewing the public health emergency order set to end on June 16, bringing an end to the territories vaccine mandates and the closure of the Howard Springs quarantine

Special Olympics Rescinds COVID-19 Vaccine Requirement After Legal Threat From Florida
    By Zachary Stieber
    June 3, 2022 Updated: June 6, 2022
The Special Olympics has pulled its COVID-19 vaccine requirement after legal threats from Florida officials.

The organization announced on June 2 that it made the move “as demanded by the state of Florida officials on May 27, based upon the Florida Department of Health’s interpretation of Florida law.”

“Delegates who were registered for the Games but were unable to participate due to the prior vaccine requirement, now have the option to attend,” the organization said. “For 54 years, Special Olympics has been brave in the attempt. We don’t want to fight. We want to play.”

According to a letter sent to the Special Olympics this week and obtained by The Epoch Times, Florida health officials determined that the organization would be fined $27.5 million because of its refusal to rescind the requirement that delegates show proof of vaccination to attend the games.

Florida law states that businesses, including charities, cannot require patrons or customers to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination or post-infection recovery. The law authorizes the Florida Department of Health to impose a fine of up to $5,000 for each violation of the law.

    The important bit.

Florida Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo told reporters during a press conference on Friday that it did not make sense to impose a mandate, given that the current slate of COVID-19 vaccines provide virtually no protection against infection and no protection against transmission.

  10. Ivermectin Useful in All Stages of COVID

What makes ivermectin particularly useful in COVID-19 is the fact that it works both in the initial viral phase of the illness, when antivirals are required, as well as the inflammatory stage, when the viral load drops off and anti-inflammatories become necessary.

According to Dr. Surya Kant, a medical doctor in India who has written a white paper on ivermectin, the drug reduces replication of the SARS-CoV-2 virus by several thousand times. Kant’s paper led several Indian provinces to start using ivermectin, both as a prophylactic and as treatment for C

Doctors Urge Acceptance of Ivermectin to Save Lives

As mentioned earlier, in the U.S., the FLCCC has also been calling for widespread adoption of ivermectin, both as a prophylactic and for the treatment of all phases of COVID-19.

  12. Military Official Predicted mRNA COVID-19 Vaccines Might Be Paused Over Heart Inflammation
    By Zachary Stieber
    June 10, 2022 Updated: June 10, 2022
A U.S. military official predicted a pause in the administration of the Moderna and Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines could happen if more cases of post-vaccination heart inflammation were detected, according to newly obtained emails.

Harry Chang, a U.S. Army lieutenant colonel, made the prediction on April 27, 2021—the same day the director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said the agency was not seeing a safety signal when it came to heart inflammation experienced after getting a COVID-19 vaccine.

Chang noted the pause in the administration of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine over blood clots and said an increased number of heart inflammation issues could trigger a similar action.

“A pause of the Pfizer/Moderna administration (much like the J&J blood clot pause) will have an adverse impact on US/CA vaccination rates; assessed as unlikely due to causes of myocarditis can come from multiple sources (eg. COVID, other conditions, other vaccines/prescriptions, etc),” Chang wrote in an email.

Myocarditis is a type of heart inflammation.

  13. Just like in Tokyo in the early 90s, around the time of the bursting of the “Bubble Economy”…
We see the same sort of nonsense these days in Auckland: Ref: https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/grey-lynn-33sq-m-historic-shed-that-last-sold-for-269000-for-sale/LJGZQDWUWQSWFV2QQZ7DVA4D5E/

I remember similar of stories in Tokyo 30 years ago, where the most unusable and ridiculously small parcels of land would be sold for eye-wateringly high prices. (Note: this was sometimes because the sliver of land might be needed to “un-landlock” a parcel of land by providing it with road access.)

And now it’s making the news in New Zealand.

Funny how this was right before the start of the ongoing house price deflation that has still to run its course in Japan.

There are a couple of points that make real estate in Japan different from that in NZ.
    – Death duties of 40%
    – Old houses (older than 25 years) are considered valueless (it’s all in the land beneath them)
    – Effectively no immigration (but foreigners can own land in Japan)
    – An aging and declining population (Japan has 650,000 fewer citizens than a year ago)
    – Rural areas are disproportionately aging, as the youth flock to the urban mega-centers in search of jobs and stimulation
    – An abandoned house is subject to less property tax than a vacant lot (and demolition costs are very high)

    • This is absolutely the best example of dear leader I have read thank you SA for posting this for us

Examples of this include NewZealand PM Jacinda Ardern (left) the Blairite harpie who recently remarked during a press conference, “The only truth you will get about Vaccines is what we the Government tell you”. Great stuff – “Shut up and listen, pleb…. Big Sister knows best”. Ardern doesn’t see these totalitarian utterances as inappropriate because (a) she has the social antennae of a cockroach and (b) she is terminally stupid. However hard one tries, it is impossible to miss those conclusions because every look she adopts – I care, I know, I’m hurt, I’m right, look up to me as I look down on you – simply radiates ideological certainty and intelligence devoid of emotion.

      • YES!

Will Lightfoot make it to February as she looks to be cracking up already…

“An election for Mayor of Chicago is scheduled to be held on February 28, 2023. If no candidate receives a majority of votes, a runoff election will be held on April 4, 2023. Incumbent Lori Lightfoot is eligible to run for a second term in office.”

  14. My wife and I went to an evening with the Save Our Children NZ people, last night. Mainly one presentation by a bright young Maori lady called Charlene (did not catch her surname). She briefly tells her story of abuse as a kid but then goes on to tell how through helping a family a few years ago she and her partner exposed a pedophile ring up north. The information found on their computers by the Police lead to breaking several much bigger rings in Aussie, even bigger rings in the US and Europe (ie. the information found in Aussie lead on to other parts of the world etc.).
So she now has made her mission in life to not only expose more, but set up community based systems to help the kids and parents. She believes the Government agencies are a waste of time.

I did not agree with everything said but she and her friends are on a mission worthy of support. They are going all around NZ in June and early July. If you have the time it is well worth going along to listen to her.

I don’t have a link to a site with their itinerary so I will list it here :

Nelson June 10, Greymouth June 14, Queenstown June 16, Invercargill June 17, Dunedin June 18, Timaru June 19, Christchurch June20-25, Blenheim June 26, Palmerston North June 28, Wanganui June 29, New Plymouth June 30, Taupo July 1 , Rotorua July 2, Tauranga July 4, Hamilton July 5, Auckland July 6-7, Whangarei July 8 Bay of Islands July 9.

I do not have the venues, but you should contact the VFF people in the area because I think the local branches are helping them (that was the case in Wellington). If we find out any more information I will pass it on.

  15. 👊👊👊👊Breaking 👊👊👊👊

Woman threatened with extreme violence in horrific online attack. The disgusting outburst came after the victim spoke out over the epidemic of death and illness caused by obesity, at a time when hospitals are struggling after dismissing thousands of medical staff for their political views.

  16. This is designed to appeal to simplistic imbeciles. It is rare for gang members to be patched up now days. It’s more for formal occasions. Modern gangs want to avoid attention as it could jeopardise their money making activities.

One of the real issues we have is a diminished sense of community and nationhood. This is only going to get worse until we fix the housing 🏠 situation. People only respect laws made by those they feel a social connection to.

Gangs are not lawless. They have strict laws rigidly enforced. Members comply because of a desire for peer approval.

  17. Building a community in Western Australia, for the public to know who have the legitimate guns.
The problem is that it was not inclusive for all guns.

APRIL 5, 2022 … The scale of the maps released make it child’s play to locate licensee homes. One media outlet was able to identify the exact locations of 50 firearms owners within hours …..

The guidance by the governments leading lights is now being actively amended by redistribution in the name of greater “kindness”

….. May 30, 2022 …. dousing a 52-year-old man in methylated spirits to get him to open his gun safe. ….
…… stole four target pistols from the residence and that as they were leaving one of the trio set the victim who had been doused in methylated spirits alight. …..

The judiciary system will find ways how to ameliorate the sentence?
Are the eligible to become 501’s to return to New Zealand to Ardern’s safety of ‘gun buybacks’ where 21 gun salutes traditionally and culturally happen nightly?

    • At least those prepared to have the surgery have made a commitment to their futures (however misguided I may think them).
While those who just put on a frock and shout that they should now be considered female (whatever that may be) deserve to be ignored and ridiculed – or dungarees and male, whichever suits their delusion.
There can be no reason to take their claims seriously if they themselves are not prepared to fully commit.

  18. Bet nobody loses their job over this exorbitant waste of money

UK plans to burn billions in wasted Covid protective gear

The British government plans to burn billions of pounds (dollars) in unusable personal protective equipment purchased in haste during the coronavirus pandemic, a public spending watchdog said Friday

The idea of burning the face masks, gowns and other equipment to generate power has not impressed the watchdog committee.

The panel is investigating how the government came to spend 4 billion pounds (NZ$7.7 billion) on protective gear that has to be dumped because it is defective or does not meet UK standards.

Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee said the government planned to dispose of 15,000 pallets a month of the gear “via a combination of recycling and burning to generate power.”

    • Consorting laws… really
They may be utter scum of society but i dunno if i would be comfortable with those type of laws, dosent take much to expand it or tweak with the definitions of a gang/prospect.

      • I’m with Sags on this one, something has got to be done, the gang situation in Auckland is beyond a joke.
Get patches out of sight, away from the schools and shopping centres these pricks hang around.
Consorting laws in themselves wouldn’t be the problem (they could be specific to known gang members) the issue would be with those that uphold them ie. Plod, but this is always going to be the case – and they are all we have so give them tools.

          • Whatever Mr Cool Guy… my opinion (not ‘feeeelz’) has nothing to do with this government. I grew up surrounded by gangs and they are a massively corrosive societal element. You can hide away down in your little world and pass judgement all you want but there are good, innocent people living in genuine, continuous fear of these arseholes. The parasitic bastards should be able to be exterminated on sight.

            • 💥Calm down !!!!💥

If what you said was true – then you would know Luxton’s tough talk won’t make any difference.

And you have a long way to go before you loathe gangs as much as me kiddo.

By the way – my little hiding place has the highest number of gangs per capita in NZ. 😀

              • Whatever, ‘kiddo’.

I don’t give a fuck whether it’s National/Act/Labour or whoever takes some action.
Police need permission to actually do some policing, they’re currently hamstrung by softcock instructions to hug & ask nicely. You seem under the impression that only you understand modern gang members are all employed members of society that are indistinguishable from everyone else. This is definitely the sophisticated pointy end of gang hierarchy but the patched thugs are the henchmen, terrorisers and schoolyard recruiters, there’s plenty of them and they’re highly visible. They need to be gone.

                • “ softcock instructions”

You are gibbering and not making sense kiddo.

                  1. Is the issue one requiring new statutory powers, or simply less softcock instructions?

                  2. Have you personally found hardcocks more effective?

                    • I comprehend the bullshit of chest beating politicians very well.

Our disagreement is over the efficacy of the proposed measures and how those measures may be misused. We have similar views about gangs.

    • saggy@1519

Yeah, yeah, we’ve heard all this from the nats before. It’s the same old, same old. Promises, promises and much talking but nothing done once elected.

A bit boring and repetitive really. Luxflakes is merely making the usual noises hat all nat ‘leaders’ have been making for the last 50 or so years.

Some even deliver (and actually DO something), but I can’t see Luxflakes being one of them….

    • The search for principles.
      Does it mean policing?

      I posted this yesterday :—-
Raises many good points about the gun control policies.

Lucretia Hughes Testifies at “The Urgent Need to Address the Gun Violence Epidemic”
      6 mins 55 secs : 9th June 2022

“We must prepare to be our own first res-ponders”.

Lucretia Hughes testifies against expansions on gun control alongside many pro-gun control advocates, including families who were affected by the tragedy at Robb Elementary School in Texas.
She shares her family’s story about losing her son.

“A justice system failing to hold him accountable for the laws he already broken, …. a convicted felon killed my son”
“How about letting me defend my self from evil”
“You do not think I am capable & trustworthy to handle a firearm”.
“Who is supposed to protect us?”
“We must prepare to be our own first res-ponders”.
” I am a legal law abiding citizen and I do not need the government to save me.”
“education is the key to safety; not ineffective legislation”
“….. it will embolden the criminals, gun owners are not the enemy, in these gun control policies are not the solution.”

The education part, just what principles are they based on these days?
That has changed much in the last 50 years.

The wild west, was only a Hollywood mayhem concept.
Every one had a lot more respect for each another, as they did not want to be a part of death or being disabled/wounded.

The government has usurped how one controls one’s life, being based on academic concepts, spread by media.
Being a parent, in so many things where parents should rule, so that father figure becomes the government, for the ‘solo mum’, who then acts as wilful child demanding that they deserve more.
Taking our powers and granting them to the police, who now work as ‘corporatist’ wokists.

Those snippets do not do justice to that whole speech as the full context gives greater meaning to those points.

  20. could somebody explain this statement from the Herald?

Corrections Minister Kelvin Davis is happy to front, but while the sector has issues – especially around staff retention – it also has a success story in the prison population dropping by almost 30 per cent.

Crime is up, but there is a drop of 30% in inmates so …..I fucking give up…..

  21. A new tool giving near real-time snow data has been made available to the public for the first time.

NIWA’s Snow and Ice Network provides information on snowfall, depth of snowpack, snow melt and climate for ten alpine sites across New Zealand, including Mueller Hut above Mount Cook Village.

Funded as part of NIWA’s Climate Network and the National Freshwater Centre, the tool allows users to track snow at SIN sites throughout the season.

Dr Jono Conway is a Hydrological Forecast Scientist at NIWA and has been leading the project to analyse and visualise the snow depth information. He says that the SIN has been ten years in the making.

“We’ve been gathering data from these high-altitude weather stations for the last decade. This information allows us to see whether snow is tracking below or above normal for the time of year. We’re hoping this tool will help people and organisations to better understand and plan for winter conditions.”

Snow and ice dynamics affect alpine hazards, recreation, tourism, stream ecology, hydro-electric generation, and water availability.

Along with model simulations and remotely sensed images of snow, SIN information is essential to understand, predict, and manage the snow resources and hazards across New Zealand.

Updated measurements are provided every Thursday and plotted on a graph for each location, so people can see how much snow there has been throughout the week and plan for the weekend. Information from the SIN can also be used by rescue services to monitor hazards, organisations like DOC to help with their forecasting, as well as in research collaborations with universities.

“I’m thrilled that this information is now available to the public – it’s something they haven’t had access to before and will be a great tool for winters to come.”

The tool can be accessed here .https://niwa.co.nz/freshwater-and-estuaries/research-projects/snow-and-ice-network

  22. The then girl who’s testimony was pivotal in convicting Peter Ellis for child abuse 27 years ago has retracted her story.

…..”Older than the other complainants and considered to be the most credible witness in the case against Peter Ellis, the childcare worker convicted and sentenced to 10 years in prison for abusing children in his care, without her testimony the lead detective at the Christchurch Police Child Abuse Unit told her parents the case would fall over.”……

It’s a pity that she couldn’t have seen the light before the poor bugger died but there we have it. It still leaves unanswered questions though. Like how twelve supposedly sane jurors who were probably parents & grandparents could give credit to uncollaborated evidence such as:

…..”Some of the disclosures made by children from the creche included cakes and raisins being put up their bottoms, that Ellis killed people with axes, that he pushed children into a manhole with gorillas, smuggled them through dungeons, buried them in coffins, that children were made to kick each other in the genitals while adults stood around them in a circle playing guitars, and that Ellis’ mother had hung them in cages from the ceiling.”…..

We look back two years & wonder how rational people could have believed the Covid lies & propaganda but the race to mass insanity started a quarter of a century ago. With an innocent man. With mad parents. With dishonest police. With children who still believed in dragons.

      • I agree that kids are susceptible & it poses problems in gaining convictions against paedophiles. I can understand how they were coached, I can understand how insane women with a vendetta against men could have done the coaching & I’m sufficiently cynical to believe that police with an eye on their careers abuse their powers.

But I can’t for the life of me understand how twelve normal people sitting on a jury & the Judge who could have thrown the case out at any point could have swallowed the garbage. They should be named & publicly vilified for their stupidity.

Someone once described Christchurch as the “City of the Damned”. They were right.

        • The media decide sex offending cases against men. We see it all the time. A male accused of a sex crime, against a photogenic woman, is always presented as guilty by media. Contrived moral outrage sweeps the country. And the potential jurors.

People don’t give a shit about right and wrong. They just want social validation and approval.

        • Meet one of the creche ladies a few years ago. They copped it as well.
No one will ever be held accountable and Judith collins should hang her flossy head in shame and leave the Nats for not sorting this out before Ellis died. No doubt Key had a say as well.
The Nats are full of cowards.
Nothing is changing. don’t rock the boat was the phrase used by /williamson when they got elected, which is why they created roading and housing problems for themselves.

Someone suggested recently that Simon was up to no good on the funding side and that’s why he quit. No surprises anywhere with either bunch of arsewipes.

    • It’s still happening and has gotten much worse. The public are told, on a daily basis, that there is an epidemic of:

      1. Crimes against women.
      2. Crimes against the alphabet people.
      3. Racial crimes.

At the time the lesbian man haters went after Ellis, the fashion was satanic sex crimes against kids.

      It’s all fake.

    • From Wikipedia:

……”In Māori legend, Taranaki is a mountain being that lived peacefully for many centuries in the centre of Aotearoa’s Te Ika-a-Māui with four other mountains. Of the four mountains Tongariro, Ngauruhoe and Ruapehu were still fighting.

Nearby stood Mount Pihanga. Covered in a cloak of deep green forest she presented a stunning sight and all the mountain gods were in love with her.

Taranaki dared to make advances to Pihanga and was reproached by Tongariro and a mighty battle ensued between them. The earth shook and the sky became dark as the mountains belched forth their anger. When the battle ended the lovely Pihanga stood close by Tongariro’s side. Taranaki, wild with grief and jealously, angrily wrenched his roots from the ground and left the other mountains.

Weeping, he plunged towards the setting sun, gouging out a deep wide trench. When he reached the sea he turned north and stumbled up the coast. As he slept that night the Pouakai Ranges snared and trapped Taranaki in the place he now rests.

The next day a stream of clear water sprang from the side of Tongariro. It flowed down the deep scar Taranaki had left on his journey to the coast to form the Whanganui River.

There are those who say that Taranaki is silently brooding and will one day try to return inland again to fight Tongariro. Consequently, many Māori were wary of living in the area between the mountains.”……

I fear for our beloved, if greedy, Taranaki iwi should Mt Egmont decide to change its postal code again. 🙂

The ‘Best Team in America’ Joins the Legal Effort Against Pfizer for Fraud, Racketeering, Battery, and More

Dr. Naomi Wolf: “We’re going after Pfizer, first as a private corporation, and also, thank God, our lawyers are aligning with 20 attorneys general … This is important because the attorneys general can bring criminal charges, and what the lawyers have found abundantly is that there’s civil and criminal causes of action.”

“There are a number of various causes of action, civilly, that I can disclose to all of you that all of the lawyers have found. They found fraud for sure.”

For 32 years the Board of the Reserve Bank hasn’t mattered very much. With no democratic mandate, no effective accountability, and no subject expertise either, they have a big say in who has become Governor (the Minister of Finance can only appoint someone they agree to recommend). But apart from that once in five years activity, they’ve mostly been asleep, turning up and collecting their (rather modest) fees but mostly doing little of what they are supposed to be doing – holding successive Governors to account. On paper, the model looked sensible enough, but once it became clear that accountability was a bit harder than it first looked, successive boards seemed to lose interest. With no resources and little expertise, and not much incentive either, they settled for a role that in practice – and it is documented in successive Annual Reports – amounted to little more than providing cover for successive Governors; when they did well, when they did poorly, and even when they went quite off reservation. It probably wasn’t greatly helped by the fact that when the Board finally got to have its own chair, the first two were former senior managers of the Reserve Bank. There were a few things they had legal responsibility for, but in the scheme of things it didn’t amount to much. And when they had little power, and even less inclination to use it, it didn’t very much matter who was appointed. Have we, for example, seen or heard any sign of hard critical accountability questions of the Bank re the recent monetary policy failure, or the $8bn of losses the Bank has run up? (That is a real question: I have an OIA in

It is an outrageous appointment. It is hard to think of a comparable appointment in other advanced countries (but if anyone knows of one, let me know). It would not even be possible in most (generally run by executive boards). But even if some other advanced-country government somewhere has made such an appointment, it should not have been done here. It is bad form and – whatever the possible merits of Mr Finlay personally – it sets a dreadful precedent.

  25. Little incompetence

Doctors, nurses criticise Health Minister Andrew Little over ‘misleading’ emergency department remarks

Emergency doctors and nurses are having to defend how busy their hospitals are – calling comments made by the Health Minister “misleading”.

Andrew Little said he hadn’t seen any figures to support claims by top emergency doctor John Bonning that emergency departments were seeing record numbers of patients.

“Having this undermining of health professionals is just not necessary… it’s really disappointing that the Government fails to address the issue and acknowledge it,” added Kerri Nuku, from the NZ Nurses Organisation.
