  3. A CLOSE ENCOUNTER OF THE DRUNKEN KIND (Coutrersy of The Daily Examiner NZ)

Not sure if anyone-else has seen this article posted by Auckland Mayoral candidate Craig Lord, but I’m sure it will be of interest.

Unfortunately (and based-on their actions to date), I suspect that plod will now prosecute Mr Lord and the others involved for ‘Inflicting Grevious Bodily Harm’ on the drunk driver when defending themselves.; They have a record for doing so…

      • “In New Zealand, some legal protection exists to those making a citizen’s arrest as provided in the Crimes Act 1961 in that there may be justification or protection from criminal responsibility. Justification of the arrest ensures the arresting person is not guilty of an offence and is not liable to any civil proceeding. Protection from criminal responsibility means those who make the arrest are not liable to any criminal proceedings. They are however liable for civil proceedings. The legislation is carefully worded and only applies to offences covered in the Crimes Act 1961, not other offences such as those covered in the Summary Offences Act 1981.[51]
Specifically, the Crimes Act 1961 states that everyone (not just New Zealand citizens) is justified in arresting without warrant:[52]
Any person found committing any offence against this Act which the maximum punishment is not less than 3 years’ imprisonment; or
Any person found at night (9pm till 6am) committing any offence against this Act.”
        https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citizen%27s_arrest#:~:text=Specifically%2C%20the%20Crimes%20Act%201961,than%203%20years'%20imprisonment%3B%20or

I’m sure something in the Crimes Act would cover this idiots driving manner…eg
        Section 145 …Criminal nuisance
        (1) Every one commits criminal nuisance who does any unlawful act or omits to discharge any legal duty, such act or omission being one which he or she knew would endanger the lives, safety, or health of the public, or the life, safety, or health of any individual.”

  4. 🚨

I just saw a long string of bright lights travelling through the sky. The weren’t evenly spaced but seemed to be in groups. All moving at the same speed all straight and fast.

I grabbed the binoculars and then my telescope, but they moved too fast and were gone.

    Did anyone else see this?

  5. So, the scrawny bag of bones, Ardern, the worst Prime Minister this country has had in my lifetime was polluting the ski slopes (not that she has ever skied), around Queenstown yesterday.

In 5 years of Ardern’s Government I do not think we have had one Labour Member of Parliament, one Labour Cabinet Minister or the Prime Minister drive through or visit the King Country in that time.

What did Queenstown do wrong to have this Weasel foisted upon them yesterday?

  7. An opinion piece from a vaccinated Australian writer:

“If Covid was a battlefield it would still be warm with the bodies of the unvaccinated. Thankfully the mandates are letting up and both sides of the war stumble back to the new normal.
The unvaccinated are the heroes of the last two years as they allowed us all to have a control group in the great experiment and highlight the shortcoming of the Covid vaccines.
The unvaccinated carry many battle scars and injuries as they are the people we tried to mentally break, yet no one wants to talk about what we did to them and what they forced “The Science“ to unveil.
We knew that the waning immunity of the fully vaccinated had the same risk profile as others within society as the minority of the unvaccinated, yet we marked them for special persecution.
You see we said they had not “done the right thing for the greater good” by handing their bodies and medical autonomy over to the State.
Many of the so-called health experts and political leaders in Australia admitted the goal was to make life almost unlivable for the unvaccinated, which was multiplied many times by the collective mob, with the fight taken into workplaces, friendships, and family gatherings.
Today the hard truth is none of it was justified as we took a quick slide from righteousness to absolute cruelty. We might lay the blame on our leaders and health experts for the push but each individual within society must be held accountable for stepping into the well-laid-out trap.
We did this despite knowing full well that principled opposition is priceless when it comes to what goes inside our bodies and we let ourselves be tricked into believing that going into another ineffective lockdown would be the fault of the unvaccinated and not the fault of the toxic policy of ineffective vaccines.
We took pleasure in scapegoating the unvaccinated because after months of engineered lockdowns by political leaders blinded by power, having someone to blame and to burn at the stake felt good.
We believed we had logic, love, and truth on our side so it was easy to wish death upon the unvaccinated.
Those of us who ridiculed and mocked the non-compliant did it because we were embarrassed by their courage and principles and didn’t think the unvaccinated would make it through unbroken and we turned the holdouts into punching bags. Lambie, Carr, Chant, Andrews, McGowan, Gunner, and the other cast of hundreds in prominent roles need to be held to account for vilifying the unvaccinated in public and fueling angry social media mobs.
The mobs, the mask Nazis, and the vaccine disciples have been embarrassed by “betting against” the unvaccinated because mandates only had the power we gave them.
It was not compliance that ended domination by Big Pharma Companies, Bill Gates and his many organizations, and the World Economic Forum… It was THANKS to the people we tried to embarrass, ridicule, mock and tear down.
We should all try and find some inner gratitude for the unvaccinated as we took the bait by hating them because their perseverance and courage bought us the time to see we were wrong.
So if mandates ever return for Covid or any other disease or virus, hopefully, more of us will be awake and see the rising authoritarianism that has no concern for our well-being and is more about power and control. The War on the Unvaccinated was lost and we should all be very thankful for that.” https://t.me/freedomoverfea

    • Thanks Alice,
Pinky1, the legislation has been extended to keep it alive.

New Zealand still has straight out Mandates, that affect firemen, ambulance, along with the Doctors & nurses, but this Aussie deviousness seems to be a fall back position, & may well be followed here as a let off to the the supposed ‘government’ direction to mandate decrees.

Australian healthcare regulator to PERMANENTLY mandate vaccines
      https://rumble.com/v18pl9j-australian-healthcare-regulator-to-permanently-mandate-vaccines.html
      3 mins 51 secs : Published June 16, 2022 : RebelNews : Avi Yemini

A medical practitioner is speaking out after the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) ‘sneakily’ updated the entire industry’s code of conduct to mandate vaccines even after the pandemic.

“It’s a sneaky way to have an ongoing mandate for all Allied Health Professionals”, she said.

Previously the code of conduct stated health practitioners must ‘understand the principles of immunisation against communicable diseases’.

This year, a new additional clause, taking effect from the 29th of June, states health practitioners must be ‘immunised against any relevant communicable disease’.

“I do believe there are probably some health practitioners sitting on the sidelines waiting for mandates to end or state of emergencies to end.
Maybe they’re working in a limited capacity from home.
Maybe they’re on extended breaks, on maternity leave.
Or just working in another job right now.

But if something like this is put into the code of conduct, maybe that means they can’t even work from home or come back at a later date when the state of emergency ends”, she added.

A way of locking in Mandates to be permanent via a “Code of Practice” whilst letting the government off the hook.
Which leads to a form of retaining the “health passport”.

The War on the Unvaccinated is ongoing, staying below the radar, waiting until the next “emergency activation” to ‘ratshit’ back into life to control every one.

    • …The unvaccinated are the heroes of the last two years as they allowed us all to have a control group in the great experiment and highlight the shortcoming of the Covid vaccines…

And had vaccinations reached that magic number where the un-vaccinated stats were lower than the sampling margin of error, there would no control group stats to prove that:

[1] The un-vaccinated survived far better than the single shot, double shot, triple shot, etc.

[2] The original Covid-19 was simply a relabeled flu, despite being engineered in a lab. It failed to live up to its expected demonizing death toll, so the death toll had to be faked i.e. manufactured through:
      (a) Media sensationlism

      (b) Faked stats by paying several times the bounty to declare a death as from Covid.

      (b) Neglecting the sick, and issuing “do not resuscitate, he/she has Covid, they’re a gonna” commands, and aided be excess use of Midazolam and Remdesivir.

[3] That the collective human immune response (herd immunity) put down the original lab manufactured flu, proving that the human body is far more robust than “they” thought, they had to find another way to distribute the contagion.

[4] So the vaccines were either part of the original script, or Plan B. Having lulled the bulk of the public to believe their was no cure save for the vaccines, then the vaccines could be distributed.

[5] Hide the fact that the vaccines ARE the contagion. And with every vaccine dose it is simultaneously destroying the human immune system, and creating the next pandemic wave (version).

[6] Big Pharma is trying to create a world of drug addicts, and financial slaves.

      • Don’t forget, in their wisdom they banned any remedy that would have stopped the infected from recovery. Those who made the decision to ban Ivermectin should be shot. It might have saved so many oldies or those with co-morbidities from dying.

        • Quick right ED.

I ran out of time on the original post re-edit to mention that.
They not only banned it, but demonized it, contradicting 50 years of use in animals and nearly 40 years of use in humans. Including 13 years of free distribution (funded by Merck, not by Governments) after is came off patent, to eliminate River Blindness and human parasites in 40+ underdeveloped countries.

Hailed as the third greatest wonder drug in history behind penicillin and aspirin, and a a multifaceted drug of Nobel prize-honoured distinction. And very effective at treating Covid-19, the lab created parasite carrying pandemic, despite what the media paid fact-checkers print.

    Carrying on from last night…
Many years ago, the Good Lady badly sprained her ankle the day before she was to be the Matron of Honour at her friends weeding. She could barely walk and with the swollen ankle couldn’t wear her wedding shoe. I brewed up Kowhai bark from the sunny side of the tree and she bathed her foot in the infusion…all sweet the next day and able to walk and fit her shoe.

I had got the idea from reading about George Nepia, who had a leg injury that doctors said he would never recover from. He visited an old lady in Dannevirke called Mrs Paewai and was bathed in the Kowhai bark brew. The old lady pricked the heavy bruising with a broken piece of glass and the old blood oozed into the bath water. Nepia was back playing rugby that season.

What this is leading to… recently we watched a TV series on Maori Television called “Shear Bro”, about the Dannevirke Paewai-Mullins shearing contractors through the high and lows of the main shear. Thoroughly enjoyed the show which I think you would enjoy too if not already seen.
    https://www.maoritelevision.com/shows/shear-bro/meet-mullins

Also recently watched a Witi Ihimaera written film about two rival Maori shearing contracting families on the East Coast in the 1960’s which reminded me of the article in the Mana magazine that I had read of Willie Jackson’s great grandfather raping his great grandmother, making her spoiled goods that prevented her from marrying her true love.
    https://www.nzfilm.co.nz/news/mahana-nz-story-brought-lee-tamahori-home
It too is worth the watch.

    • Thanks Toko, will look at both those later today.

Was Mrs Paewai related to Dr Paewai, a good rugby player and highly regarded for both his medical knowledge and compassion?
I think he may have been born in the Hawkes Bay but spent most of his adult life in Kaikohe.

    • I’ve bookmarked your links & will have a look Toko.

For what it’s worth quite a few folk lore remedies were quite effective……both European & Maori. Prior to WW2 many families relied on traditional medicine usually provided via the memories of older women. With the exception of surgery which Europeans were well advanced in the natural remedies were often more effective. Cyanide & arsenic were the basic ingredients of too many patent concoctions pushed by Western medics though cannabis indica & cocaine masked the worst complications.

It was the discovery of vaccines which seemed effective against the viruses of the day & penicillin which saved untold wounded servicemen during the war along with publicly funded health that turned people to modern medicine & the clutches of big pharma.

The antics of the NWO & our venal leaders over the Covid mandates may reverse the trend.

When the Good Lady did her nursing degree, I got to read a lot of her study material. The writings of Maui Pomare when he was Medical Officer were insightful and he was a big supporter of the Tohunga Suppression Act for the reasons you mentioned last night. https://teara.govt.nz/en/biographies/3p30/pomare-maui-wiremu-piti-naera
Talking about reversing the trend, the Ministry of Health “currently funds 30 providers across the country to deliver rongoā services. These services include mirimiri (massage), karakia (pastoral support) and whitiwhiti kōrero (cultural support)”. https://www.health.govt.nz/our-work/populations/maori-health/rongoa-maori-traditional-maori-healing.

The local volunteer fire brigade got a call out to attend a medical event with the big kaiwhakahaere here, (now deceased) and as is normal practice gathered up all his prescription medication to send off with him in the ambulance. None of the medication had been opened and it turned out he had been treated with ‘traditional’ Maori medicine.

        • The Tohunga Suppression Act was probably necessary because diseases that inconvenienced Pakeha, eg Chicken pox, measles; were killing off Maori & were well beyond the competence level of the local medicine man. Your comment last night that the treatment for disease was to leave the patient outside the whare at night would be a reference to a fever which I doubt played much part in the life of the average pre European Maori.

Sir Āpirana Turupa Ngata, he of an East Coast whakapapa, supported the legislation but rightly pointed out that unless Western based medical services were available country wide not much would change.

I was born in the area in 1949 & anecdotally the District Nurse ,who I vaguely recall as a hatchet faced Pakeha harridan, used to visit East Cape families in a Ford Pilot V8 abandoning it in favour of a horse to reach Maori settlements in the area but that would be over four decades after the passing of the act. One of the mantras she would have been preaching was sanitation which regardless of current cultural safety bullshit was woeful in isolated native communities.

There’s a Weekly Review News Film on the NZ Archives You Tube site detailing the efforts made by rural district nurses of that era but regrettably I can’t find it.

My personal view of Maori & their health is that they should be free to choose & free to accept responsibility if their decision was the wrong one. One of our granddaughters finished her nursing degree last year & the cultural humbug she had to learn & accept was both unnecessary & patronising.

          • Sir Āpirana Turupa Ngata was a legend. A successful diary farmer who’s butter won awards in London.

He banned the sale of booze to his people. If you stayed off the piss he would secure your mortgage against his diary company. As you can’t against Māori land. Māori farmers would supply the company with milk.

Europeans of the time wrote of how bright eyed and optimistic the Māori of the region were. Fit healthy successful people.

re being left outside to the ravages of the elements and the reasoning for it, I think it was in the book that I excerpted last night. I loaned it out and never got it back and I need to be a member of a library to access further pages electronically.

Elsdon Best’s ‘Maori Medical Lore’ 1905 (Tuhoe) covers a range of treatments but again cut short by not being able to access it in full..
            http://www.jps.auckland.ac.nz/document//Volume_14_1905/Volume_14%2C_No.1%2C_March_1905/Maori_medical_lore%2C_by_Elsdon_Best%2C_p_1-23/p1#note_ref1
“We now come to the second part of our paper—viz., the treatment of disease, wounds, etc., by various simple remedies. This part will not cover much space, inasmuch as the Maori of old relied principally upon his priest when attacked by sickness, and the priests did not deal in simples, herbal remedies, etc., but believed firmly that their cryptic karakia and strange rites were the sole means of saving the patient’s life. Ridiculous as these beliefs were, it will yet be seen that we are not yet out of the wood ourselves, and holy relics, wells, etc., are still believed in by the superstitious. Our praying for rain and fasting are also survivals of barbarism which die hard.etc etc…”

            • Nasska…from the Elsden Best link…
“This custom of making sick persons lie out of doors on the ground probably sprang from the racial ideas of tapu. If a person died in a house, that house would become tapu and be no longer habitable, but allowed to fall to pieces and decay.

Sick persons are not wanted in the social system of the Maori—a fact which may be noted among many barbarous peoples. No attempt is made to provide the sick persons with comforts of any kind. Any such given by Europeans for the use of the sick are probably eaten by their friends. I have often prepared food for sick persons here, but find it necessary to take the food myself and watch the invalid eat it; otherwise he or she would see but little of it.

It is but seldom that one can detect any sign of affection for, or loving care of, a sick person among these natives, except sometimes in the case of children. But, when death comes, then the most extravagant demonstrations of affection and sorrow are made, accompanied by much eating of the foods provided on such occasions.”

Selling out: Golden Bay initiative focuses on communal living and affordable dwellings
    9:36 am on 17 June 2022
    Samantha Gee, Nelson Marlborough reporter

A 14.5 hectare block of farmland is set to house hundreds of people, who will own their own homes and have a common house for shared meals and communal land for gardens.
t’s the site of the Tākaka Cohousing Neighbourhood, an initiative that aims to provide an alternative for housing developments with high-quality, sustainable housing.

Earthworks will soon begin on the site on the corner of Rototai Rd and Meihana St, which will eventually see about 100 houses built across three neighbourhoods.

Residents will own their own homes and there will be a common house for shared meals and communal land for gardens.

As soon as the woman said ‘it takes a village to raise a child’ I knew it wasn’t for me, and honestly, the photo of the Takaka Cohousing Neighbourhood project co-ordinator Simone Kidner is just scary – who cut her fringe, and was it done on purpose?

These clowns doing this project are dreamers, while i admire their passion and enthusiasm to try make a difference that same model has been tried multiple times in golden bay and failed miserably.
Only the smaller communities like that survive and thrive, too many drugs and fruit loops in that area to get along as 1 big happy family. It wont take long for the community garden area to get pilfered by freeloading scum, the park/playgrounds litered with needles and whacked out hippies and then theres the drunk special folk.

They should just follow the traditional model of building to cater to those with good finances who can afford descent normal houses as it helps to weed out the undesireables.

  11. Commenting on Jeffs’ claim to members that “if you’re questioning me you’re questioning God”, Mafi said that was a big part of the Mormon religion.

“This is where they keep a lot of control,” she said.

“So you’re not allowed to question – if your prophet tells you to do something, you do it. This is how the marriages are arranged and everybody puts up with it, this is how daughters are sold, this is how people lose their homes, their businesses, because they’re not allowed to question if the prophet tells them to do something.

More than a little distraught, the banker grabs his mobile and calls the police.
Five minutes later, the police arrive. Before the policeman has a chance to ask any questions, the man starts screaming hysterically: ‘My Porsche! My beautiful silver Porsche is ruined. No matter how long it’s at the panel beaters it’ll simply never be the same again!’
After the man finally finishes his rant, the policeman shakes his head in disgust. ‘I can’t believe how materialistic you bloody bankers are,’ he says. ‘You lot are so focused on your possessions that you don’t notice anything else in your life.’
‘How can you say such a thing at a time like this?’ sobs the Porsche owner.
The policeman replies, ‘Didn’t you realize that your right arm was torn off when the truck hit you.’
The London banker looks down in horror. ‘Oh no!’ he screams… Where’s my fucking Rolex?

It wasn’t long before Captain Smith noticed that Airman Jones was having a staggeringly high success-rate, selling insurance to nearly 100% of the recruits he advised.
Rather than ask about this, the Captain stood in the back of the room and listened to Jones’ sales pitch.
Jones explained the basics of the GI Insurance to the new recruits, and then said:
“If you have GI Insurance and go into battle and are killed, the government has to pay $200,000 to your beneficiaries.
If you don’t have GI insurance, and you go into battle and get killed, the government only has to pay a maximum of $6000.
Now,” he concluded, “which group do you think they are going to send into battle first?”

184 now dead this year, 27 more than this time last year, the zero target seems to be getting away on them.

While in think crypto is a bit of a scam/ponzi its still good to have an option that says “fuck the system, fuck the banks” , those that hold great power are scared of crypto and i expect the attacks on it will become more frequent untill its fully controlled and regulated.

  16. Serious crash near Picton.
Herald: “Seven people have died in a fatal crash on State Highway 1 south of Picton, the Herald understands.
Police said the crash was between a truck and a van at Mt Pleasant about 7.30am today. Several people survived.
We assessed and treated three patients; one with critical injuries and one with serious injuries both flown to Wellington hospital and one with minor injuries transported to Wairau Hospital via road.”

Assuming that the truck driver was one of the injured, that leaves two injured and seven killed in the van (including children). What kind of people would pack nine into a van? (Maybe there was seating for all passengers.) Were they all wearing seatbelts? Did the driver fall asleep at the wheel?

    Who knows…

  17. Neil Oliver on his weekly rant on GB news said that the IPCC has quietly and without any fanfare released their latest report.
Apparently it shows no warming for the last 15 years. A quick google tells me that CO2 levels have increased approx 20% over that time frame.

  18. The city of San Antonio has been left in shock because of what transpired on a VIA public transportation bus. 06/15/2022 6:00am
Bexar County Investigation Unit found two heads in a passenger’s bag on the VIA Bus headed South Bound.
A young man, about 21 years old, got onto the bus with a backpack at S.Presa Rd .
Shortly after he boarded, fellow passengers then began to perceive a strong smell from the boy’s backpack.
The horrible smell made the passengers suspicious and one of them alerted the driver.
The driver saw some Policemen on patrol and beckoned to them.
The Policemen stormed the bus ,commando style, and began to search passengers.
One of the policemen almost fainted in shock when he opened the 21-year-old boy’s backpack and found two (2) heads.
After examining them carefully, the Policemen found out that they were two known heads.
It was a head of garlic and the other of an onion.
Thank you very much for your attention!

  20. Labours attack on farming is a losing proposition. Their ideology informs them to kill independent farming. Because of our system of government, with no checks and balances, labour has been able to legislate its secret dreams quite quickly. The impact will be immediate and painful, which is the point of socialism. Immediate suffering followed by tyrannical subjugation. We should lump their war on oil and gas, war on mining, war on land lords, into the same bucket though.

NZ’s main productive export industry is under assault. Economic suffering is a sure fire way to lose the masses.

What will the next distraction be? A flag change captain call? Appointing Helen King? Another Christchurch shooting?

  23. The Greenies, The councils, the RMA and the bullshit that goes with it.

An environment group is pleased with the regional council decision to take RealNZ to court after the company placed non-consented moorings in Fiordland. (of course they are but),

RealNZ chief executive Stephen England-Hall said the company took consent obligations very seriously and that RealNZ has operated from consented moorings for nearly 30 years in Harrison Cove.

Recently we replaced our older moorings with a new modern mooring system that has better environmental outcomes.
He said the replacement was prompted after an internal health and safety and a maritime safety review in 2020 which identified the mooring system should be upgraded.

“The new moorings are environmentally superior and safer than the old ones.”

Mr England-Hall concluded by saying he was looking forward to the court assisting them to clarify the position.

No wonder we have third world incomes.

  24. Police say seven of nine people travelling in a van were killed in a fatal crash they described as “absolute carnage” on State Highway 1 south of Picton this morning.

“It’s a van containing nine people,” police said in a media conference this afternoon.

“Tragically seven of those people are deceased.

“It’s just absolutely tragic how in the blink of an eye seven lives are lost.”

“At the moment were still establishing what happened, but it appears the van has crossed the centre line.”

  25. A young couple are on their way to Las Vegas to get married. Before getting there, the girl said to the guy that she had a confession to make. The reason that they had not been intimate was because she was very flat-chested. If he wished to cancel the wedding, it would be okay with her.
The guy thought about it for a while and said he did not mind if she was flat, and sex is not the most important thing in a marriage.
Several miles down the road, the guy turned to the girl and said that he also wanted to make a confession. He said that below his waist he was just like a baby, and if the girl wished to cancel the wedding, it’d be fine by him.
The girl thought about it for a while and said that she did not mind and she also believed there were other things far more important in a marriage than sex. Both were happy that they’d been honest with each other.
They went on to Vegas and got married. On the wedding night the girl took off her clothes and she was as flat as a washboard. Finally, the guy took off his clothes and one look at the guy’s naked body made the girl faint and fall to the floor.
After she came to, the guy asked, ‘I told you before we got married, why did you still faint?’
The girl said, ‘You told me it was just like a baby.’
The guy replied, ‘Yes, eight pounds and 21 inches.

    • Everything is proceeding as I have foreseen.

This is not a crime wave. It’s the breakdown of society at a fundamental level. This is just the opener. What’s coming is much worse. The government’s response will be more of a threat than the random criminal acts.

This is the direct result of an economy based on fake debt fueled residential property values. A fact denied by the emotional haemophiliacs who the government has backed in this scam.

The Russians are just quietly relentlessly winning.
Having set up 3 more cauldrons recently to pound the Ukrainian army.

Why the USA will escalate? an incident to further antagonize Russia?
Nor does this guy believe the Russians are being pushed back, but very concerned for what the USA may do in their desperation and pushing others to stir up issues.

Set to start after the intro of why he is so concerned.
Will the USA in NATO double down?

Gonzalo Lira has spent a lot of time in the Ukraine, and is well aware of the different strengths, motives of those participants.

Nobody this year has really tried to find what the issues are and to try and push for negotiations.
To look at what was not adhered to in the Minsk agreement.
Nor is any one offering humanitarian aid to the Ukraine, like hospitals, medical help, pop-up field hospitals, medical staff volunteers, rehabilitation etc?

Already New Zealand is in deep, training others to kill Russians.
Will we be expected to take out the Russians in NZ? 🙁
Could this be why NATO has invited New Zealand’s dear leader to its next meeting, to help with the escalation?

  27. Neil Oliver absolutely nails it…
“It is important to keep things simple, I find, when it comes to understanding how banks operate. 29. BREAKING: Did Lithuania Light the Fuse on World War III?
    By Larry Johnson

Lithuania claims it is simply abiding by the sanctions imposed by the European Union. After all, Lithuania is a member of the European Union and NATO. But that is the point. This is a deliberate provocation. It is laying economic siege to a vital interest of Russia. While there is no immediate danger to the Russian population of Kaliningrad, this is a flash point that could lead to an actual war as opposed to a special military operation.

  30. Opening the flood gates?

New Justice Minister Kiri Allan pledges ‘victim-centric’ approach
    https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/politics/2022/06/new-justice-minister-kiri-allan-pledges-victim-centric-approach.html

Curbing violent crime and looking after victims are the newly minted Justice Minister’s top priorities.

RNZ reported on a budget bid document this week that shows the Justice Ministry and Victim Support deliberately under-promote a financial grant scheme for victims to keep within budget.

“This approach is untenable because victims are being deliberately excluded from accessing support they are entitled to receive,” justice officials wrote.

Allan said it was important to her that anybody harmed by somebody else received the entitlements the government had set aside to provide them.

  31. For my sins I accompanied Mrs C on a shopping trip to Westfield mall in Albany today. I commented a few weeks ago that there were no signs of any slowdown. Today it was even busier, hard to get a park and people everywhere. She bought a few items at Kmart for the granddaughter and muggins had to queue for 15 minutes to get through the checkout. Admittedly there were 3 machines down out of about 13 but that would not have made a huge difference. Maybe I have this wrong and queues at Kmart are people buying at cheaper stores and does signal a downturn.
Is anyone noticing a major fall off of retail elsewhere?
Also noticed more people not wearing masks than last time. Still heavily outnumbered by the compliant but an improvement nonetheless.

  32. Tax, cannabis, and gangs

And finally, this week, a quirky story coming out of Christchurch caught my eye. Brendan Crocker appeared in a district court this week charged with cultivating cannabis and for possessing a Class C drug for the purpose of selling In the course of his hearing it emerged that he admitted to starting a company so he could pay tax on his sales. That’s one of the more unusual excuses involving tax I’ve seen, too. Crocker claims he gave away about 80% of his cannabis candy in order to help people in pain and was only selling the rest to cover the cost of making it.

Gangs are currently in the news and there’s plenty of concern about the increase in gang violence in and around Auckland. Now it’s well known that one of the things that fuels gangs and gang tension is the trade in illegal drugs. This is where tax comes into play. Why not legalise or decriminalise cannabis? By doing so, we’d take control of the supply away from gangs, and hopefully therefore reducing their influence. Many countries have done this with Thailand one of the latest, and quite a few states in the United States have done it as well.

Once the sale of cannabis is decriminalised, it can become a useful source of tax revenue. And of course, that tax revenue can be used to deal with the problem of gangs and drugs. As I see it, it’s a win-win.

    https://www.interest.co.nz/public-policy/116408/te-wiki-o-te-t%C4%81ke-land-taxation-disputes-process-fair-and-how-much-tax-could

Colorado in the US. has a population of about 5.8 million, roughly comparable to ourselves. It legalised cannabis way back in 2014 and it publishes monthly records of its marijuana tax take. Currently it’s around US$19 million per month, which is roughly NZ$30 million, give or take, which equates to around about $350 to $360 million a year.

To put that in context, that tax revenue is probably more than what is going to come from the Pillar 1 and Pillar 2 international tax reforms that I discussed last week. Now they are a big deal for international tax, but the actual cash benefit for New Zealand is probably not as significant as many people might think.

On the other hand, cannabis, illegal drugs, gangs and the accompanying violence and threats is a problem as well as great cost to us. So that’s a proposal for someone serious to consider. Legalise cannabis, get some useful tax revenue. And then use that to help deal with the problem of drugs and gangs.

    • …..” Legalise cannabis, get some useful tax revenue. And then use that to help deal with the problem of drugs and gangs.”……

Great idea but it challenges the “alcohol good, marijuana bad” bias of society’s knowalls & social conservatives so it will never fly.
