And personal observation from being on clogged motorways when emergency vehicles are trying to get through, is that the ONE (And there is ALWAYS one) vehicle that will not pull over is invariably a late model and expensive one driven by a Chinese individual of either sex, who will simply NOT make any move to get out of the way; despite frantic horn and siren -blasting from the emergency vehicle (including Police). I have no idea why this occurs, but the car driver-concerned seems almost to be paralysed by fear and literally incapable of taking any evasive action (Although alternatively they possibly revert to the ‘non-comprende’ state and simply do not understand what is expected of them).
It’s an interesting phenomenon, and must drive the ‘Emergency’ Drivers nuts…

The link to the Blobfish yesterday had it, and I was just reading about the hundreds of blue penguins being washed up dead on northern beaches on the DOC website that correctly attributed the deaths to the El Niño weather pattern, but then in the last paragraph had to put a plug in for climate change. These penguin deaths were occurring many years before the time we were supposed to be heading into the new ice age.
It would not surprise me that pushing climate change is part of The Public Interest Journalism Fund deal.

An elderly lady was throwing a party for her granddaughter and had gone all out….. a caterer, band, and a hired clown.

I am waiting for what is termed as ‘Urgent” surgery, As I had heard nothing for months since my initial diagnosis and a couple of consults with the surgeon, even though I have emailed the booking clerk and phoned them also, that went to answer phone, I went to my Doctor yesterday to ask what is going on. He emailed an enquiry to them immediately. The Doctor said there was such a shortage of nurses and no beds as there are no nurses to work. This morning I received a call from the booking clerk who was going to phone me (hahaha) to say urgent operation waits are around 8 to 10 months and that she expects the soonest she can get me in for surgery is perhaps August. What a health system we have. They are months and months behind. I feel for the nursing staff and Doctors and ancillary staff it must be ghastly working under those circumstances. But but but….. we have a new Maori health service so Angry can’t fix one health system but starting another. Angry Little has issues that cannot be described what a loon. FFFJA

S1, I certainly would not wish to place a $500,000 B-Double on any open vessel like the “Move Flirefly” as shown in your linked article on an open water run like that from New Plymouth to Nelson.
The exposure to salt water and salt spray, for such an expensive investment like the purchase cost of current large truck and trailer units, to me would not be what I would want to expose it too.
To me, the vessel configuration shown is not ideal for this run or very exposed water and does not seem to protect the cargo greatly.. I would suggest even the draft of the vessel shown would not be what I would wish to travel on for such water.
I come from a large part of my business life of Ship Chartering and buying and selling large commercial vessels for shipowners worldwide and being Chartering Manager for large Danish and British Shipowners.

A week or so ago I told you of an evening my wife and I spent with others listening to a lady from Save Our Children NZ, who with her colleagues is doing a speaking tour of NZ.
They are in Christchurch at the moment and have had two of their venues cancelled on them at the last moment. Last night they were meant to speak at a Baptist Church hall but were cancelled (before the ChCh people quickly organised another venue). But instead of just walking away they did a livestream outside the Church telling everyone what had happened and how the church had joined the cancel culture club (Church staff were in their offices at the time). Carlene highlighted the hypocrisy of a church stopping a talk about child trafficking, pedophilia etc. The person who originally organised the church hall as a venue, went inside and talked to them. They came out and said the church had been rung from some one higher up in the church, from the North Is., telling them to cancel.
What are they worried about ?? Do the Baptists have history like some in the Catholic church ?

The other car crashed & all four occupants were killed. He & his passenger were found guilty of leaving the scene without stopping to give assistance which is fair enough but to my mind charging him with four counts of manslaughter when he wasn’t the driver of the vehicle involved smacks of nanny stating & blame sharing at a stratospheric level.

I am assuming that he was a party to the offence of Dangerous Driving Causing Death by way of his participation in the road race as per subsection 1a and b of above. The argument being that you can’t race yourself therefore he was a party. No race = no deaths.

I would have thought that the onus would be on the crown to prove that it was a race & were I accused of participating I don’t think that I’d agree that I knew that it was. The four fatalities occurred when the car they were in was on the wrong side of the road & went head on into a van travelling in the opposite direction. Unless the defendant admitted he was racing it could easily be argued that it was an overtaking manoeuvre that went wrong.

That being the case, then he proved that he was racing all by himself and all the Crown had to do was produce the remaining recording and I am guessing here, the recovered deletion, going by the statement that they knew exactly how much had been wiped and that it related to the crucial time around the crash.
When confronted with the recording, did he admit his actions? I don’t know anything about the case apart from what’s in the above link, but it would not surprise me that there would have been other road users who witnessed the racing.

I don’t doubt that the present demands for a ban on alcohol on Maori Day are anything other than the normal separatist crap but it’s not hard to find resistance to alcohol on the part of Maori leaders.
The Early Settlers, like the Pacific Islanders had never discovered alcohol but like tobacco use they caught onto the concept real quick. If you had any doubts a Google search of the goings on at Kororareka (Russell) in thge early 19th century would have you convinced. I’ve read accounts of a group of surveyors who trekked from Wellington to the Manawatu mid century which described a people totally inebriated & wrecked by drink. There are plenty more if you look.

However others pointed to the treaty correctly saying it guaranteed equal rights and observing that Europeans were overwhelmingly over represented in alcohol disorder offences. Also true.
