Yes I agree in years gone by half your children did not survive, however in these times you do not expect your children to pass before yourself.

Why can’t Te Reo do what Japanese does and simply transliterate from whichever language comes up with a new name for a new something?
For example, in Japan, COVID-19 is reported as コビット19 (Koviddo 19) or simply COVID-19.
Why does all new Te Reo terminology have to be created in Wellington? Can native speakers of Te Reo simply not borrow words from the source using their own initiative?

One of the main differences between Japanese and Te Reo is that Japanese is a living language with an active publishing industry full of journalists looking for new things to talk about. RNZ can reveal all the schools of nursing have joined forces on a proposal submitted in May aiming to double the number of nurse practitioners being trained.
But they have just had a Ministry of Health letter back saying the status quo will continue – a response they are calling a “huge disappointment”.

A Wainuiomata GP clinic manager says that would be “amazing”.
Nurse practitioners were “very hard to get” and officials “really need to support that proposal,” said Keriana Kingi of Wainuiomata’s Whai Oranga o Te Iwi Health centre.

Last Saturday, we had a huge family gathering with lots of friends. Turns out it became a Covid super spreader event. Irony is that the few of us that are untouched are all UNVACCINATED. A large number of those who got the bug are all vaxed and boosted etc. Now I had covid briefly in March as did my son, but my daughters are neither vaxed, nor have they had it. So much for covid hunting down the unvaxed….
More studies are showing that natural immunity is long lasting. Is it possible ROL that your daughters have had it but never noticed?
They have been doing the odd testing, especially when coming down with a cold, and have always been negative. I suspect that ADE may be the issue where vaccinated are more likely to get mutant strains, a bit like Merricks disease in Chickens. I suspect that me and my son, having got Omicron, but being unvaccinated, have a robust immune response.
That would flummox the “experts”. How odd, how very strange!

I think that Russia sees this as a war of Liberation. You don’t wipe out the bits you want to liberate. I also believe that they are trying to minimize civilian casualties. Else their “Bears” would be flying non stop obliterating cities……
Okay to a point but ask yourself why they didn’t “liberate” the Russian portion of the country, redraw the borders & settle in. With slow advances they’ve allowed themselves to get bogged down in the parts of the Ukraine they probably don’t want & would find exceedingly difficult to control should they succeed.
Nasska, they went back to fully liberate and also “liquidate” the nazi forces in the eastern regions, there were over 100k ukrainian troops there so id imagine it takes a fair amount of time to liquidate that amount of enemy esp when theyre holed up in rest homes, hospitals, schools and kindergartens.
Plus the russians fight different to the west, artillery is the main weapon with troops as support. If too many enemy are left behind the advancing front line it leaves artillery vulnerable to attack so it makes sense the fell back and done a thorough mop up of the areas.
Liberating just the russian areas would also mean leaving a large chunk of ukrainian forces and support intact allowing for future counter attacks. I predict russia will retain the eastern regions but still push forward and fully demilitarise the rest of ukraine and possibly not stop until zelensky is dead and pro russian leader installed.

I was reading the other day that germans etc have been panic buying woodstoves for winter but all sold out and a backlog of 2 years worth of orders. Firewood in short supply due to pabic buying also.
If they dont be careful they may have to resort to burning jews again just to keep warm.

Not just greenies. We only have heat pumps and a natural gas fire. At least we have a warm house and the Waikato only has the odd -4ºc frost.
The Germans are busy reopening their coal fired power stations.
We’re in much the same predicament WG. Our retirement home has heat pumps plus LPG fired radiators & hot water. Didn’t bother with a log fire but that was before the Mad Queen fucked gas & the eco terrorists stuffed dependable electricity.
Okay now but we’ll likely end up warming ourselves over the heat of a melting ice cube!

Years ago the uni bought in islanders and installed them in flats to look after themselves. They lit fires in the ovens.

Today i fed the cows iceblocks of silage as it never defrosted from yesterday.
Always have 2 forms of heating, even the shitty old gas heaters the doogooders insist on banning are good to stash away as a backup.

I’m no good in the cold. We’ve had a very tropical June/July some days. It was very chilly this afternoon. The gas fire is automatic and fed from 45kg bottles. The cat enjoys it and gets as close as she can on miserable nights.
I’m hoping for commonsense to replace the dopey “captain’s call” to cancel the gas supply!
You’re onto it Stoopid. Pretty much all modern gas heaters are piezo ignited with electronic gate valves – no power, no gas. Those old Warehouse units that run off a 9kg take up bugger all room in the garage & even if half fucked can still be lit with a match.
Thats why I never took the Wharehouse up on their electric heater!
Now Now, that’s not nice.

Gotcha Viking, fully understand. Didn’t quit rugby until forty & paying the price now. I love the physicality of a day or three splitting tree bits but recovery takes a few extra beers with each passing year.
Wrists are bugered so barely use a hammer these days.
