    • Rachael, what’s the problem? Bureaucrats regularly guess and go ahead and do their own thing with public money. Look at Wellington’s and Auckland’s bus network, neither has been based on meeting actual public demand for levels of service etc. Or the provision of “infrastructure investment” whatever that is?

    • These people are useless and evil.
If you can use “admin data”
Then why don’t we just use admin data and do a census every year?

      0

      0

    • And if you believe this approach is trustworthy and reliable, I have a bridge I can sell you!

Have a think about this. Stats NZ have just royally fucked up their only really important job. The CE has fallen on her sword. They told us during the census that “Trust us, we’re the experts, you are just stupid whiny sheeple, we know best, it’ll be fine” and they’ve now found to be lying incompetent idiots. They tried to cover up their incompetence during the census, why on Earth would we believe that the same idiots can now be trusted to do an even more complicated statistical modelling exercise and get it accurate?

We have had massive immigration since the last census, we’ve had roading infrastructure projects which have been redefining commuter belts around major cities and the government department that screwed up their one and only really important job is going to be able to “fill in the gaps” and we should “trust them” after they proved incontrovertibly they’re untrustworthy.

And you add into the background a failed hypocritical Minister (Jimmy “Two Mums” Shaw) who will be brow-beating officials to come up with something (anything) face-saving to make him look good!

This is bullshit. This will give a free hand for political boundary gerrymandering. This will be an exercise in allowing left-leaning social scientists in Stats to fill in the gaps in line with their own bias.

No stats are far, far better than bad stats. The nonsense produced will have far-reaching consequences for our statistical record over time – it’s fucking insane!

    • Well of course the elites are going to say things like that they see a potential end to their gravy train, Hemi Cody & Harley who are just average folks like the rest of us will continue to fight tooth & nail for what they perceive as theirs because you can guarantee they haven’t seen or received a cent of the neverending treaty settlements & top-ups

  2. It has to make you wonder if Barry Soper is on the take from Winston Peter with all the political drivel he pens for his lying germ of a politician that is well past his used by date.
    https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=12260746
Soper can not see past Winston lies and many people have said he is in the NZ First Leaders pocket so he has blow his trumpet to be associated with what many NZer’s say is the most corrupt Politician to grace the halls of Parliament.

    0

    0

    • Sooner Winston is retired the better. NZ First will be a better party without him.
Like so many he has had his day and like so many doesn’t know when to quit.
NZ is now the worse for his remaining in Parliament.

Surely The Nats. can promise him a fun job somewhere in the world.

His reporting and “commentary” on the last election was very biased.

  4. Simon Bridges taking questions on Petrol tax , now I want to stress my point on female Journalism and how they have not gone after Jacinda Ardern and the sex scandal out of her office with twelve complaints on sexual assault. Listen to the tax on petrol debate and see who are taking Simon Bridges to task , most of the questions are coming from female Jounalists the females that condone what Jacinda Ardern has put these twelve woman through.

        0

        0

    • He says the same thing over and over again. The interview could have been one and a half minutes long. He also is partly burying the petrol tax issue saying repeatedly it is a third of the cost. With GST on top it is about half the price of petrol,

      0

      0

      • Don’t get me wrong, a great interview none the less. I guess naming Adern over and over again is what is needed to get the message across.

        0

        0

    • HC, Bridges correctly made the point that it’s not sexist to question Jacinda about what she says, but that is the usual refrain from the Liebore spin machine, the Loebore trolls and the lazy MSM.

And the people most responsible are the lazy MSM, because they are not journalists, they don’t hold people to account because they are to busy publishing copy given to them on a plate by the “favoured politicians” and their spin machines.

  5. Actually Simon had had some really good lines lately.
And he is starting to hit back at the COL and the media!
I really hope that he starts to rise in the preferred pm polls!

      • I have a ‘contact’ who tells me Labour are very, very disappointed with their current internal polling.
“Jacindamania has faded a bit” was what he told me.
He firmly believes that they will romp home in the next Election though. Why? – The upcoming Nobel Prize and the Wedding next year!

          And the cannibis referendum.
And the prospect of polls in every supermarket and outside all WINZ offcies
And some big bribe that they will think of soon and use Roberstons new found extra borrowing allowance. ie 20% to 25%

        • With the ongoing rise of Kiwis pushing back against this COL your mate might want to revise his thinking i seriously doubt by this time next year shoving her ugly mug on a few magazines a wedding or much else will help cauterise the resentment & outright disdain the average Kiwi will be feeling towards this dysfunctional bunch of socialist wankers

          0

        • And if people are taken in by that and vote Labour because of it then NZ truly deserves the government it will get. This is turning into “No Country for Old Men” and no mistake.

          0

          0

        • Not so sure about that. We will be into recession territory by this time next year and people will be hurting, blaming Labour for it. Quite rightly of course.

      • I have often thought of doing my own poll.
It cant be that hard with todays low cost calls to mobiles.
Find 1,000 people from all over NZ that agree to be polled regularity.
And then poll them once a month
        And ask supplementary questions
eg roads, crime, benefits, taxes, climate change

  6. A 75-year-old man walked into a crowded waiting room and approached the desk. The Receptionist said, ‘Yes sir, what are you seeing the Doctor for today?’
‘There’s something wrong with my dick’, he replied. The receptionist became irritated and said, ‘You shouldn’t come into a crowded waiting room and say things like that. ‘
‘Why not, you asked me what was wrong and I told you,’ he said.
The Receptionist replied; ‘Now you’ve caused some embarrassment in this room full of people. You should have said there is something wrong with your ear or something and discussed the problem further with the Doctor in private.’
The man replied, ‘You shouldn’t ask people questions in a roomful of strangers, if the answer could embarrass anyone. The man walked out, waited several minutes, and then re-entered.
The Receptionist smiled smugly and asked, ‘Yes??’
‘There’s something wrong with my ear,’ he stated.
The Receptionist nodded approvingly and smiled, knowing he had taken her advice.. ‘And what is wrong with your ear, Sir?’
‘I can’t piss out of it,’ he replied.

    • Oprah Winfrey has the flue and goes to the Doctor’s office. Doc says “take off your clothes and get on your hands and knees” Puzzled, she does as asked, and then the Doc says “move a little to the right” so she does, then he says “nah move back to the left a bit”. Frustrated, Oprah demands how this is supposed to help her flue. “Flue? says the Doc- I’ve got a new leather couch arriving in a half hour and was figuring out the best place for it!”

She can no longer put the tax and levies up before election day or face a backlash.

Will she drop the tax grab. I bet she does not!

Does anyone think the Prime Minister should be seen to be doing more about the sexual deviate out of her office that twelve staff have complained about before trying to grab the headlines on another of her broken promises Pay Parity. I keep pushing the Prime Minister’s lack of responsibility over these as as they need to be kept in the voters minds to stress she is not as caring as she makes out especially those photo’s that were portrayed all over the world of her after the Mosque shootings.

  10. looks like Kiwiblog today is a love-in with Pete George and DPF attacking Trump.

Is there anything happening in NZ today?

    0

    • I don’t Read DPFs anti Trump rhetoric. His other stuff is generally OK, but the overzealous moderation is a pain in the butt. There is no “Fomenting Happy Mischief” about his blog any more.

      0

    • I looked at the Trump/Denmark piece this morning and it was the final nail in the coffin for me. With the moderation issues and a general fall in the standard of articles posted (not just the Trump ones) I have decided that’s it. A pity, because it was once a great blog site.

      0

      0

    • That was a bit disappointing Maggy i dont particularly care if people like Trump or not we have bigger fish to fry right here in NZ but half of that thread turned into people’s frustration with the blogs moderation & DPFs kowtowing after March 15th and any thread that Pete George is involved in is bound to be a joke much like his sad little blog

  11. As I expected, negotiating with the EU was and is a game of chicken and Theresa May blinked before she got to the table.

And as I had said, Germany always wanted a proper deal with the UK, because Germany stands to lose too much with a no deal Brexit.

So, this morning’s news that Germany is urging the EU negotiators to look at the question of the Irish backstop and Germany will work to try to avoid a no deal Brexit, is not a surprise.

What May and the other Europhile remoaners seemed to be ignorant of was how important Britain was to German and French commercial interests e g the biggest landlords in London’s square mile (the old financial centre) is none other than the German banks, likewise the biggest market for German cars in Europe is the UK. Does anyone think the German industrialists would have forgiven Merkel and the CDU if they had damaged these interests?

WTF was May and her advisors thinking for the past 2 years. Because in the end as a result of ignorance and arrogance May & co were selling the UK down the river!

    0

    0

    • Yes Boris is showing how to negotiate.
“We are leaving, but lets try to make some deals”
May just went there shook hands and then gave in.

      0

      0

    • I still hope the UK is out with a “no deal” ( probably by default). It is the best option for the UK especially from the sovereignty issue point of view. Any “hick ups” in the commercial/trading area will be overcome in time.
To just resolve the Irish backstop issue and leave in things like the fishing grounds as is, immigration being linked to EU policy etc. etc. is just a faux Brexit.

    • France Italy and Spain have their own car industry.
      Britain does not.
They went effectively went belly up 40 years ago via the Unions who wrecked the economy.

A handy lesson for NZ today – look at Britain in the 1960s and 1970s.
You have your blueprint. Ardern was studying this last decade in the UK.
To change a society you need to bring it to its knees.
A happy place won’t want change.
Fortunately Thatcher pried it open and let in some light but all the midlands manufacturing was buggered. The expansion of the money markets in the mid 1980s was a huge saviour.

Germany does indeed need Britain for its products just as France needs Britain when the Krauts get bolshie.
It is high time Britain put the Great back in.
Treason May was a saboteur no less than the French Saboteurs in Auckland on 10 July 1985.
An evil critter that should be in the Tower of London.

      • Howitis, you could add Ted “the Teeth” , Heath, John Major, Michael Hesseltine, Douglas Hurd, Geoffery Howe, & Ken Clarke to a long list of Tory whet traitors (& then latterly Tony Blair and Gordon Brown) who over the decades have all collectively given up British sovereignty to sup at the EU gravey train trough.

        0

        0

        • HK, one would wear out a brand new keyboard writing about the appalling behaviour of the above mentioned.

Heseltine does deserve special mention and Bliar – well we know about him. Brown was a shocker for the small amount of time he had- similar to but probably not as bad as Treason.
Treason had the most important role in a generation and scuttled it- deliberately IMO.

It is interesting that ‘Call Me Dave’ Cameron was relatively benign .He did bugger all.
I think it is interesting that after little action (overlap with J. Key who was the same) his Cons Party was voted back in with a clean majority- then Treason blew that.

I suspect the hands off approach was welcomed by the voters but problems were certainly accruing during that time that should have been dealt with.

That is the way to keep the prison population down Kelvin and Little.

It also keeps re-offending down and saves $100,000 per year per prisoner, and saves building new jails, and long drawn out court costs, legal aid, judges ages etc etc.

  23. Over $500,000 of damage done to heavy machinery at West Cost mining site

A West Cost mining company has been left devastated after hundreds of thousands of dollars of damage was done to heavy machinery.

The manager of the gold mining company, who requested the business remain anonymous, said he arrived at the site on Tuesday afternoon to find the gate lock had been cut and “all the gear was smashed up”.

He said the keys to the vehicles were kept at an on-site office, and were stolen when the offender/s smashed through a window.

“They then jumped in a digger and used it to smash the other vehicles.

  24. Clinton Bowerman’s business “ground to a halt” when police concluded he was mentally unfit to hold a firearms licence. He fought back – and won. Tony Wall reports.

A private investigator has won back his firearms licence after fighting police in court over their decision to revoke it.

Police revoked Clinton Bowerman’s licence because they believed he was paranoid about people following him and was therefore not a “fit and proper person” to have firearms.

  25. A man was telling his mate, “You won’t believe what
happened last night. My daughter walked into the living room & said,
“Dad, cancel my allowance immediately, forget my student loan repayments,
rent my room out, throw all my clothes out the window, take my TV &
my laptop. Please take any of my jewellery to the Salvation Army or Cash
Converters. Then, sell my car, take my front door key away from me & throw
me out of the house. Then, disown me & never talk to me again. Don’t
forget to write me out of your will & leave my share to any charity you choose.”

“Holy Shit,” replied the friend, “she actually said that?”

“Well, she didn’t put it quite like that. She actually said,
‘Dad, meet my new boyfriend– Mohammed. We’re going to work
together on the Green’s election campaign!’ “

Could be that the Yanks have finally got themselves a president who doesn’t have to bomb the shit out of some no-hopers to get a hard on.

    • My hubby was a strong supporter from the time Trump announced he was standing. l was interested but sceptical but love the dude now. Nice to have someone who speaks the truth, has standards and doesn’t allow himself be manipulated by those who disapprove of his chosen course. Now we also have Boris telling Angela Britain won’t compromise on Bretix negotiations and calling her bluff when she allowed him 30 days to find a solution to the Irish border.

  28. Yesterday morning , Melahi posted and expressed a concern that may be noteworthy.

Is YSB becoming an echo chamber?

I personally find YSB a pleasurable symphony of views and opinions that mostly resonate with me.
    Thank you to everyone.

I also respect Ed’s timely intervention with comments and humour which tend to kick start threads and maintains flow.
    Good on ya mate!

To expand ones mind, one must be ever mindful of the importance of intellectual stimulus,by frequently seeking echo chamber reprieves, of sorts.

    So here’s some expansion.

    Echo’s in space?

No matter what is going on in our own backyard, the world keeps spinning, and pretty soon viewing the world spinning will be like a Cook strait crossing…

The U.S. military is poised to launch the Space Command on August 29, Vice President Mike Pence announced at Tuesday’s National Space Council Meeting.

    • …..”Is YSB becoming an echo chamber?”…..

Fair comment but all successful political blogs have a bias. Take Kiwiblog & the Standard for instance. Peter George had a go at “fairness” & “civilised ” debate at Your NZ but it didn’t exactly set the country on fire.

DPF once noted that the mark of a good comment was that it attracted both up & down ticks. If so socially liberal commenters such as myself & Kea might be supplying balance to the crusty conservative, know-all set. 🙂

      • So you and Kea are youthfull and part of the know-nothing set?

But yes a good blog should attract comments from all sides.
I keep meaning to join a few leftist ones and stir things up and get the vibe over there.

      • …..”you really have to put the work in to get a down tick”……

Bullshit! All you have to do is suggest that conservatives & religious nuts don’t have the right to dictate what 70%+ of Kiwis should do & think.

        They can’t fucking help themselves.

  32. Māori group fighting to reclaim land in Sydney gifted by Aboriginal king 200 years ago

A group of Māori in Australia is fighting for a piece of Sydney they claim was gifted to them by local Aboriginal people over 200 years ago.

The Rangihou people took the Parramatta City Council to court in a bid to reclaim the land that covers 112 acres in the heart of the Australian city.

“We are here to reclaim Rangihou land,” Lady Crown told Australia’s Nine News.

“We want acknowledgement and recognition, we want the history books corrected and compensation for damages of the land.”

  33. Labour and NZ First defend voting against KiwiSaver for foster kids without legal guardians
    https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/politics/2019/08/labour-and-nz-first-defend-voting-against-kiwisaver-for-foster-kids-without-legal-guardians.html

“National MP Hamish Walker said it was “unfortunate” that “Government parties couldn’t put party politics aside” and support the clause that would have “ensured 6500 of our most vulnerable children had the ability to be on the same playing field”.

“The Bill will now only apply to foster children under the care of a legal guardian, which only accounts for about 10 per cent,” he said on Wednesday night. ”
