Our new rail maintenance depot and operations building is up and running in Picton, and rather than simply demolishing the old one, we’re taking the much more sustainable option of dismantling it, and re-using and recycling all the materials.
Blenheim company CMT has already removed the cladding, roof panels and internal steel work, which has been taken to a local recycling depot. The concrete wall panels that sat around the base of building will be crushed and turned into roading aggregate.
Another Blenheim company, HML, is getting down to the painstaking work of unbolting all the structural steel from the slab. These huge structural beams, weighing up to 3 tonnes each, are being removed piece by piece. They’ll be taken to Blenheim to be rebuilt into a new workshop in the future.
HML is even taking the huge gantry cranes, which were used to maintain the locomotives, and will repurpose these to use in its existing and future facilities.
We’re really pleased to be able to reduce waste in this way while assisting our local community.

It’s the first time Hamilton has had an international flight in 13 years.

The new routes take off from Hamilton to the Gold Coast and Sydney, and from Dunedin to the Gold Coast from June 2025.
It’ll be the first international flights from Hamilton in 13 years, when Virgin Australia stopped flying. Dunedin hasn’t had an international flight since 2020.

Despite the extended range the next-generation performance batteries will be faster to charge, cheaper and be combined with further efficiencies in car aerodynamics and weight reduction.
