Got home from a day in Hamilton yesterday to be greeted with a letter from the Electoral Commission advising me that voting for the Election on 14th October actually starts on 2nd October.
Now I am not sure if this early voting is so they can manipulate the Election result, or give a heads up that one Party is falling behind in an early inspection of the returned Votes so that they can put some effort into reversing the trend to ensure the desired result is effected.
But what got me in the letter was this wording.
“You are not of Maori descent.” And I note the “are not” is in bold.
Really, how they know that I am not of Maori Descent? Have the Electoral Commission done a DNA Test on me without my knowing? I have never claimed to the Electoral Commission that I am of any racial descent or denied that I am of any racial descent. I have claimed to be a New Zealander in the past, but I don’t believe that makeup, has a DNA profile of any kind.
It is good however to note, the Electoral Commission and by default the New Zealand Government, do not think and have recognised that I am not dumb enough, for which Maori are repeatedly and wrongly told they are, or lazy enough to need or receive special assistance and funding due to the perception, like Maori had foisted upon them, that they need every handout possible, that I can not help myself.
For that, I should feel grateful.
