Try sitting on the river flats waiting for deer to appear. They are beyond belief in places.
South westland or fiordland hunting trips id start having a swig of diesel or kerosene a few days prior to going in then take in a small amount for first few days. Ya sweat the stuff out for 3 or 4 days after and the lil bastards hate it and dont bite ya. The old skool cullers used to have a teaspoon of kero at breakfast everyday, no deet back in those days.

I recently went to a restaurant to eat with mrs Holy, when it was time to leave I received the bill. I was going to pay with cash. When the waitress came back she says I am sorry sir, we not accept cash, first that’s stupid but here is the kicker.. When the waitress returned with the slip for me to sign, the restaurant charged me a $5.00 “convenience” fee to use my card.
I left a note on the slip about not allowing me to use the cash that would have been more “convenient” for me and the waitress and for the manager to call me when they had time so I could tell them what stupid scam they had going on and I would never return.. they closed about 6 months later when people stopped returning, which is sad because the food was excellent but their business practices were sneaky.

Stephen is a Kiwi from Taranaki who after university worked for the Treasury, back in the early 80s for a short time but eventually got into emerging markets, initially in Russia ( based around his company Renaissance ) but is now in Africa.
This is a MUST LISTEN for everyone. Quickly covering what Stephen has done in his career moving onto his experiences in Russia and then it spends a lot of the time on NZ’s problems and how he thinks it has gone so far down hill, that it is going to be extremely hard to turn around —economy, education , culture and values.
One thing he mentioned, but unfortunately Leighton did not pick it up and get him to expand on, was that strong leadership is going to be needed to start the turn around process.
