I see a bit of Waikato Draught down at the local, a few drink it. Crackly every week from the Roast Shop.
Just not enough of it. My favourite food when made properly.
The best crackilng I ever made was when I had the deli in Centreplace Hamilton.
Get your roast leg in the roasting dish.
Fill about half the dish with water.
Cover completely with tin foil. (Like me, you have plenty for your tin hats).
Cook on 150 for about 90 minutes.
Take off tin foil and leave off.
Score the skin.
Put back in oven at 200 for about another hour or so or until the crackling is bubbling.
Enjoy
Times will depend on size of roast.
(from a Chinese chef) The way to get the best crackling is after scoring the skin pierce the skin with the tip of a knife with many tiny holes. rub in the salt and put back in the fridge skinside up and uncovered for a couple of days to dry. The fridge sucks all the moisture out. Then cook.
When I cook portions of pork belly on the BBQ I do it in a hot cast iron skillet and put the skin side down. You soon hear lots of crackles and pops. Turn temp down and turn over to finish cooking. Enjoy!

Insurance companies usually adjust insurance rates based on historical costs ( pay-out rates).
If Tesla EV’s end up costing them more then the insurance companies are justified in increasing the rates for insuring Teslas. Some EV’s seem to be less susceptible to battery fires and would presumably have lower insurance rates.
The Nissan LEAF EV seems to have very few battery fires and would therefore cost less to insure.
Having said all the above, petrol cars burn up a whole lot more often than EV’s based on the number of fires per 100,000 cars.
Being a smug virtue signaling wanker is expensive. I have also heard news from the UK that electricity costs for charging them are more than petrol per km.
The average price of electricity in the UK converted to New Zealand $ is NZ$0.55 per kwhour. An EV can travel approximately 5.6 Km on one kwhour of electricity or NZ$0.085 per Km. The average petrol car can travel approximately 17.5 Km on a litre of petrol. At a cost of 1.47 UK pounds sterling (NZ$2.99) per litter for petrol that works out to about NZ$0.17 per Km.
Even in the UK with its high electricity prices it’s cheaper to drive an EV than to drive a petrol car. Don’t know if EV’s are charged Road user fees in the UK and that might change the situation.

That’s interesting. The wife and I both have an electric car but we charge at home and 99% of our driving is local, not long distance. We charge for free with Electric Kiwi which gives you a free hour of off-peak power a day. That takes care of almost all our daily driving needs.
Also need to figure in the lower maintenance costs. In the ten years of owning our first EV we had to buy two new tires and pay for windshield wiper fluid! WOF and REGO costs are the main expenses. Some time next year we will also have to start paying road user charges. Fair enough, but we bought partially based on the government at the time promising that there would be no road user charges until 10% of the cars in NZ were EV’s. The current government has backtracked on that promise.
Considering a lot of the world uses fuel oil to make electricity , I have never understood how electric powered cars could be cheaper to run than using a naturally combustible fuel directly in a vehicle .
