New World Flaxmere will close on February 25 and consultation with employees has begun.

My point, which I guess I failed to make properly, is that participation must be voluntary. While “hobby” courses may have their place they will do little to improve people, their well being or their society,
The subject matter is a red herring. The best teaching material is something the learner is interested in be it motorcycles, cookery or safe breaking. The purpose of the course(s) is to pass on the gift of literacy.
While we’re at it budgetary & cooking skills are valuable unlike Kapa haka. Everyone needs to eat but few feel compelled to knock out a waiata at whim. David Seymour might be able to wring the cultural crap out of the ivory tower educationalists.
