It is great – arriving early this morning exactly as forecast – 25 ml expected.
The drought north of Christchurch is showing far worse than around here – perhaps all the irrigation disguises it. Up around the Hurunui area yesterday it was reminding me of the late 80’s early 90’s really bad ones.
I think you are right, the irrigation disguises how dry it is and our towns are still doing business ,if we didn’t have it they would be ghost towns especially with the current price of lamb .

I think one of the reasons the left get their knickers in such a twist about firearms, is that they don’t understand what they’re talking about. And people like Martyn Bradbury, who should know better, (or does know better, but is trying to scare the shit out of the public anyway), scare the shit out of the public.
Martyn is always banging on about submachine guns which conjure up images of the Mafia or Uzis or something. A far cry from a semiautomatic rifle.
In this article he also talks about self defense, whereas possession of firearms in NZ for the purpose of self defense is not permitted. In fact any mention of self defense will prevent an applicant from obtaining a firearms license.

What you say is ( or at least used to be) true.
When I took the gun licensing test one of the questions was something along the lines of “can or would you use a gun to defend yourself?”. You would fail if you answered yes.
My guns are stored in a triple locked shed 50M away from my house. I wouldn’t be able to use them to shoot anyone if attacked in my home so my truthful answer was “no”.
But if someone did have the ability and shot an attacker I would think that any reasonable jury would acquit the shooter. Unfortunately that person would very likely lose their gun license.
The idea that any reasonable person would let anyone else harm them or their loved ones because of a law saying you can’t defend yourself/them is rediculous.

Government MPs accidentally cut proposed taxes for hybrid cars in vote for wrong amendment
MPs from the governing parties voted in favour of a Labour amendment in a select committee report, recommending the House reduce a proposed tax rate for hybrid vehicles.
With the bill now back before the House, Labour and the Greens are urging the Government to keep the bill as it is for the sake of the climate.
They might be in luck; Transport Minister Simeon Brown told the Herald he was aware of the report and the accidental change was “something we are open to looking at as a Government”.
Currently, battery EVs and plug-in hybrids enjoy favourable treatment by paying no road user charges, and in the case of plug-in hybrids, very little fuel tax.
Brown has pledged to reverse this, and introduced legislation to force both classes of vehicles to pay road user charges (RUCs). Because plug-in hybrids already pay some tax, through fuel excise, there has been a contentious debate over just how high their road user charge rate should be set.
