Let’s abolish welfare for landlords first. Then they will cry, weep, throw their toys out of the cot & hopefully sell up their rentals. These hovels will be purchased at a now lower price by kiwis wanting to nest. This better class of stable, working people will be reliable employees. With these employees the former landlords can develop useful businesses which can employ more people who can then buy their own houses.

In our region close to $4.0 million was granted to the District Council by the Provincial Growth Fund which was to go into low cost housing and a few other community projects to be established in conjunction with the local District Council..
The low cost social housing development in Ohakune and Taumarunui did not happen, nor did any of the other projected public Infrastructure that was planned from this fund with the District Council coming under some criticism for it. But what happened was a proposal was made by some self interested Maori around Ngapuke to build a new Marae, so the funding for the Social Housing was taken off the District Council and given to local Maori to build a new Marae, instead. This Marae has taken more than 3 years to build, is substantial and still under construction with a commercial kitchen, solar panels, full fencing, meeting houses, the works. Bearing in mind, all Marae in this country are privately owned and not a public resource, this is an absolute disgrace on behalf of those operating the Provincial Growth Fund and the former Labour Government. A self interested Maori family operating this new Marae get preference for funding over the community as a whole.
But this is not unusual, all Marae were painted in the Taumarunui Region, courtesy of the PGF and so it seems seriously funded, were Marae upgrades in Rotorua.

Shorter wait times for (elective) treatment: 95% of people wait less than four months for elective treatment.
The last two targets were announced last month and the climate change target was announced by former Climate Change Minister James Shaw in 2022.
