  1. John Key meets Chinese President Xi Jinping
    https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/world/2019/10/john-key-meets-chinese-president-xi-jinping.html

“Sir John extended congratulations on the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and appreciated the celebration activities.

Xi said Sir John, during his term in office, made positive contributions to promoting the development of China-New Zealand bilateral relations, and hopes he will continue to contribute to the friendship and cooperation between the two peoples.”

      • Guess someone has to do the job? Key was possibly in China on business? Xi Jingping clearly respects Key and a meeting would keep China happy. It’s fairly unlikely that Xi has much respect for the current PTPM after her very short (snub) state visit to China.

  2. Police hop RNZAF flight to Chatham Islands as residents take part in gun buyback
    https://www.tvnz.co.nz/one-news/new-zealand/police-hop-rnzaf-flight-chatham-islands-residents-take-part-in-gun-buyback?auto=6095334485001

“Police officers have flown on an air force Hercules C130 for the four-day buyback at the island’s courthouse, following multiple buyback events throughout the country in which thousands of guns and add-ons have been handed in.”

How many firearms will be voluntarily handed in on the Chathams?

    0

    0

    • More to the point, how many shootings have there been to justify taking guns off law abiding citizens over there?

      0

      0

        • Exactly. Since the E category was introduced in 1992 there has never been a crime committed by a licenced firearms owner with an E category firearm. Never, not one.

      • ……” how many shootings have there”……

None that I can recall hearing about but it would be fair to say that things are done a little ‘differently’ in the Chathams compared to the Mainland. Two instances:

About thirty years ago the Chatham crayfish industry was in full swing & seasonal labour was short on the boats. Members of a certain bike gang from Hawkes Bay filled the gap spending six months on the island & six months back on the mainland. As they had a casual attitude to property laws a few times one of them bought an expensive Yank ute financed on minimum deposit & shipped it over for transport on the Chathams.

Naturally payments were never made & one of the finance companies decided to make an example of them. They sent over two of the biggest, meanest repo agents. These unfortunate gents had the shit beaten out of them on arrival & spent the rest of their week long stay on the Chathams barricaded in their motel.

The other instance was of a Wairarapa firm who had a 4WD Hiab truck stolen. It was found six months later being used to load craypots onto boats on the Waitangi wharf.

            • Sounds like a junket to me!
              Why four days?
Leave day 1 and set up hall.
              Pinch guns day 2.
              Packup leave day 3.
Their 4th day, a hunting, shooting and rooting!

              • But the return visit is going to be different.
Will the fine and once respected NZ Police, conduct search and seizure missions to clear any law abiding citizens still holding weapons, in their cold dead hand?
Maybe throw in an infantry company next trip to contain any decent.
The C130, may need to return the catch, in cuffs as enemies of the state.
I know it’s a bit “step to far” now BUT they have broadcast prison terms and huge fines. Is this going to be another set of laws on the books that is rarely used in anger. ie Election law.
Here comes a group of young cadets (like they recruited some of the 1981 Red Squad straight from College) all keen to save the world from ourselves.

  3. Judge to Peters: Answer the questions
    Oct 17 2019

    https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/politics/116644548/judge-to-peters-answer-the-questions

” Court documents have confirmed New Zealand First leader Winston Peters was sent a letter by officials four years into his seven-year overpayment of national superannuation asking him to check details he had supplied, including that he was ‘single’.

He continued to receive the higher rate of superannuation for ‘single, shared accommodation’ rather than his actual ‘de facto relationship’ for three further years.

Chief High Court Justice Geoffrey Venning has now ordered Peters to supply answers by Friday to several questions he had not adequately addressed. “

    • “for three further years”.
      The ignorance for 3 years.

The best time to take down a pig is when feeding at the trough, and the awaiting bath temperature is the critical 140 F. or 60 C. 🙂 for the 6 minute plunge.

      • Three years of neglect !! by the Deputy Prime Minister.
We have a crisis of honesty throughout the entire parliament.
So few stand out as straight up 100%.
Peters, peters out quite quickly during any search for integrity.

  4. The police are talking about gangs again.
They say that people join gangs because there is something missing in their life.
    That may be so.
But for some people its far better than working all day for the average wage.
We all know gangs make a lot of money and have cars and bikes and girls.
    What more could you want?

    0

    0

      • They are SO under resourced “just pop down to the station and write your own statement. We are a bit busy.”
They aren’t able to act decisively in a concerted effort to curtail the gangs.
The current balance is of their making anyway and suits them.

    • Slip “blocking” highway? More like the road is moving downwards with the slip.

But does anyone else remember the quick if temporary fix from days of old? They were called Bailey Bridges & dated from WW2. From https://www.nzta.govt.nz/roads-and-rail/management-and-maintenance/providing-bailey-bridges/ :

“Bailey bridges have been used around the world for the past 70 years for uses such as:

replacing collapsed bridges (between 3-metres and 200-metres long)

restoring access to roads washed out in storms

providing cost-effective temporary structures for roading projects

providing minor stream crossings for movie locations and other non-emergency situations.”

They’re probably not sturdy enough for 44 ton trucks but they would keep locals & tourists on the road while the NZTA engineers studied the slip.

      0

      0

      • What is wrong with a horse or shanks’ pony the Greens assistant transport minister would ask. With this road being off the beaten track is there really any rush to assist a few locals back into their smelly fossil fuelled 4wd diesel vehicles. So much better for the environment to let people commune with nature by walking. //sarc

  6. Benefit receivers up more than 15,000 on the same time in 2018
    https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/politics/2019/10/benefit-receivers-up-more-than-15-000-on-the-same-time-in-2018.html

“The number of working-age people receiving a main benefit – those aged 18-64 – was also up 5.3 percent on the same time last year from 284,315 to 299,472.

National leader Simon Bridges said the numbers are “appalling”.

“These people and their children will lead worse lives because of this. This is not kindness. And it’s not fair on hardworking taxpayers.”

  7. I managed to catch the interview with bridges on radio live magic whatever its called.

I was in the drive through picking up a mega stacker burger from BK. fuck it was like elvis’ last meal.

    anyway,

bridges was impressive. fuck its refreshing to hear a political leader with a brain.

full disclosure – i hate how people call politicians they dont agree with stupid all the time. 90% of the time they are smart people who think differently.

but fuck me chompers is thick.

anyway, talking to a bridge hater this morning and they told me they heard a bridges interview yesterday, he was excellent and they are starting to like him.

unsolicited comment to i may add.

i personally wont be voting national as they are piss weak on too many things, but it is a good sign for a CR govt.

  8. Thanks for all of your efforts ED.
But its hard to believe that there can be so many problems with a system like Word Press that has been around for years and years and has thousands of blogs.
Is it Word Press or your Host or the template?
I started a blog 3 years ago and got bombarded with spam and they wanted me to pay for an add on to stop it! So I gave up

    0

    0

    • You answered your own question. Security is paramount for me and changing to a better template certainly has had it’s issues. plugins are not always compatable etc. It’s the plugins that are causing the problems here with the host deciding they don’t like some we were using. Instead of warning or telling us, they just delete them. If I hadn’t of paid for a years hosting up front, I would have told them to stick their hosting.

    https://www.tvnz.co.nz/one-news/new-zealand/government-invest-100m-into-new-acute-mental-health-facility-in-waikato?auto=0

  11. Now who was that Prime MInister and what did he say about mosques barracks and minarets and bayonets?
    As of: 16.10.2019
…… Turkish invasion of northern Syria has been prayed in mosques in Germany for a win in Turkey. For example, the Turkish religious authority Diyanet, which sends imams to Ditib mosque communities, to the Islamic Community Milli Göru (IGMG) and to Atib, delivered a Friday sermon proclaiming, “Help our heroic army, which has launched a campaign for security our country “.

The “Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger” also reported on a sound document that was published by the Ditib community in Herne. “Allah, lead our glorious army to victory,” it says. …..
https://www.welt.de/politik/deutschland/article201888152/Moscheen-fuer-Tuerkei-Allah-fuehre-unsere-Armee-zum-Sieg.html (I then used google translate)

Must be an islamic peace of “submission”, that is prayed for. That must be ok then. // 🙁

So now which political party has sold their soul for the muslim vote?
Do they stand by their voters?

….. [Erdogan] His background and commitment to Islamic values also appealed to devout Muslim Turks.

However, he was given a 10-month prison sentence (of which he served four) for reading an Islamic poem in Siirt in December 1997.

The poem included the lines, “The mosques are our barracks, the domes our helmets, the minarets our bayonets and the faithful our soldiers…” and was considered a violation of Kemalism by the secular judiciary.
    https://www.aljazeera.com/indepth/spotlight/turkeyelection/2011/05/2011526121054590355.html

Yet Erdogan keeps winning elections in Turkey,
    Has Kemal’s secularism gone?

So just what seeds are in Germany?

  12. ‘We are the law’: NZ First MP Clayton Mitchell and friend in incident at Tauranga bar
    https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/politics/2019/10/we-are-the-law-nz-first-mp-and-friend-in-incident-at-tauranga-bar.html

“Domoney says Mitchell and his friend refused to leave, and when it was suggested the police could be called, he said one of them replied: “we are the law”.

“A female staff member came out of the bar crying and upset and she had said one of the guys from that group which was Clayton had hit her on the side of the head with a glass and spilled his drink on her. It wasn’t an assault, it was more of an accidental incident, but it was because he was in that bar area.”

Mitchell told Newshub it’s a storm in a tea cup.”

Cindy has set the standard for not dismissing bad behaviour of MP’s so Winston is on safe ground as of course he is defending his MP’s behaviour as nothing out of the ordinary.

    0

    0

    • Shades of “Don’t you know who I am?”
These fuckwits get above themselves far to often and forget who it was who put them in those jobs. I realise in this case it was a bunch of fuckwits who voted for NZ First, but it is no excuse for this bad behaviour.

      0

      0

      • I’ve just heard Clayton Mitchell on Magic Radio news saying he will not apologise and in fact he expects an apology from the bar security staff. There is no apparent concern from Mitchell for the wait staff member who got knocked in the head with a glass because of his refusal to move out of the way when asked to. We will await to see what eventuates but good manners would assume an MP would at least apologise for any part he may have played in “the misunderstanding”. There is a strong whiff of arrogance and entitlement in the air from the NZF MP and his leader.

    Conservative alliance targets climate army

The new voice of Australia’s conservative movement has vowed to go after radical left-wing groups in a national campaign against “climate alarmists”, after accusing members of activist group Extinction Rebellion of being criminals who pose a menace to society.

Liz Storer, a 36-year-old former Liberal councillor and ministerial adviser, will be announced on Wednesday as the new national director of centre-right campaign machine Advance Australia, which has positioned itself as the political counter to GetUp.

Click on your web browser settings icon. top right.

Scroll down in the settings menu until you find privacy and security.
    (Mine came under additional settings.)

You should find…. clear browsing data, cache etc.

When you click on this it should ask you how far back you want to go.
I went back 30 days so as to rid me of those nasty klingons from last month.

I suspect the host cleared their cache during the makeover, but our latent/earlier posts and comments floating around, needed another host to attach to.
