  1. Ooohh, first in! Well, I’ve just returned to my condo after stuffing my face at the all
you can eat bbq down the road for 12 bucks. They even had Aussie fillet steak and king prawns. One bottle of wine later and I’m feeling pretty good. I just love Thailand, the freedom to do pretty much as you want is intoxicating. If you are aged 50+ you can come here on a retirement visa and live like a king for 20k nz per year. Keen? Just ask me and I will show you the way! Goodnight trendsetters.

    • One wonders how a millionaire is defined. Should a person with a million dollar house not get the pension?

      0

      0

      • If you have been on a benefit most of your life, you have been living a very poor lifestyle. Drugs, smoking etc. The chances of you living much longer than 65 are very slim. So while they might get the pension, they won’t stay alive for very long to enjoy the continuing taxpayers largess. Karma is a bitch sometimes.

  2. Poverty activist hits back at Bridges over rise in Jobseeker Support recipients
    https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/politics/2019/10/poverty-activist-hits-back-at-bridges-over-rise-in-jobseeker-support-recipients.html

“National leader Simon Bridges has lambasted the latest Ministry of Social Development figures showing 15,000 more people are on the benefit over last year.

“These people and their children will lead worse lives because of this. This is not kindness. And it’s not fair on hardworking taxpayers.”

“But Mike O’Brien of Child Poverty Action Group says Bridges’ comments are a bit rich, considering “the way National treated benefits and beneficiaries through most of their nine years”.

“Frankly, many of the issues we’ve now got are because of the kind of range of policy measures that National ran from 2008,” he told Newshub.”

The COL have been in office for 2 years. Time to stop blaming National with claims of “nine years of neglect”.

  3. So removing guns from gun owners is a fail.

Special police vehicles carrying trained armed officers will routinely patrol Auckland, Waikato and Canterbury in a police trial that hopes to cut down response times to serious incidents involving firearms.

Police Commissioner Mike Bush is expected to make the announcement in Counties Manukau this morning.

Police have had growing concerns about the increasing number of incidents that police respond to that involve firearms, and that is understood to have contributed to the decision to trial armed response vehicles.

A source confirmed to the Herald that the trial will be in Counties Manukau, Waikato and Canterbury.

    It’s the gangs silly.

    • One of the reasons Cahill and the police brass are so keen to remove guns from the law abiding is that there is no chance that there will be general arming of the police in this country in the foreseeable future. The Police Association know this, Cahill admitted it in an e mail I have seen in 2017, so they are keen to remove guns from the law abiding because, they claim, that is where most criminals get their (stolen) guns from seemingly blind to the fact that their woefully misnamed “buy back” is likely to have provided an absolute bonanza to the gangs who, awash with drug money, will likely have taken the opportunity to upgrade their arsenals by offering pissed off gun owners far more money for their formerly legally owned guns than the government’s miserly payouts.

Christchurch provided the perfect opportunity for draconian gun confiscations just as Port Arthur was jumped on by the Howard government.

These armed response vehicles may make it a bit quicker for the kevlar cowboys to arrive on a crime scene but they will not solve the problem. They have been tried elsewhere, most notably in the UK, and not been a stellar success. And won’t it be fun to watch when the first one gets stolen because the cops have left the keys in the ignition 🙂

      • Precisely.
Where have the high profile gun thefts occurred since Mar 15 ?
Palmy cop shop and a police car.
Given there is no punishment for cops ‘losing’ guns while there are heavy repercussions for private citizens being broken into even with the prescribed level of security then good citizens will still take more care of their guns than the cops will.

While you have dickwads like Angry Andy Little saying we don’t need prisons you are basically endorsing criminal behavior and saying there is no counterweight to their actions.
The stance taken by the Labour Pardy towards crims is the equivalent of a crim’s mother rabbiting about her criminal son saying ‘he was a good boy, he made his bed and mowed his granny’s lawn etc’.

The psychopaths* of Labour (esp Little and Twyford) are actually in harmony with the crims therefore in contrast to the law abiding citizens.

In a shift in the policing model the cops are going against good citizens while letting the criminals slide.

This is shown with anti social behavior towards decent lawful citizens —
        -knock on door; Do you support Donald Trump or have impure capitalistic thoughts!;
        – attacking free speech;
        -allowing grubby protesters to close city streets and block law abiding citizens ..Govt response stay at home!;
        – allowing illegal land occupation and side lining the lawful owners

In fact gangs are growing (along with most bad statistics after 2 years of neglect) and methamphetamine has halved in price in 2 years due to greater supply…..while the focus is on punishing decent tax paying citizens and rewarding indolence- as is Labour policy- so this will continue to trend adversely.

Remember that four years ago A. Little wanted to bring in laws that said a woman only has to accuse a man of sexual assault and he has to prove her wrong. The irony of a party now strongly associated with sexual assault and the cover ups of these.
Good thing they dropped that, huh!

*Psychopathy is traditionally a personality disorder characterized by persistent antisocial behavior, impaired empathy and remorse, and bold, disinhibited, and egotistical traits. It is sometimes considered synonymous with sociopathy.
Who fits that bill? :- Ardern for sure, Twyford, Little…..

  4. Mike Hosking: The Government’s weakest link – Iain Lees-Galloway should be sacked
    https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=12277590

“And they’re (Labour) making calls that not only we wouldn’t necessarily like or agree with, but calls that might well in the long run endanger us – or cause us needless distress and hassle through the judicial process. And that behaviour is not just kept secret but rewarded.

Ian Lees-Galloway didn’t put New Zealand and its people first in the Sroubek case, and he hasn’t done it this time either. Why is he still in the job?”

    0

    • Good link WG – would not have seen it otherwise.

Does the Herald not understand that Stroubek is a close friend of Ardern and her partner so Lees-Galloway had no discretion in the matter – hence retention of his job.

  5. Winston was in a car on his way to a rally when he spotted a pair of beautiful shoes in the window of a shoe store.
He stopped the car and dashed into the store and tried them on. They fit perfectly and looked beautiful. He bought them immediately.
Winston loved those shoes and was very proud of them. They were the best shoes. When he wore them in the House the next day he was surprised and disappointed that no one noticed them and commented on them. Even Cindy failed to compliment his shoes.
As the day wore on he was more and more desperate to get people to notice and compliment his beautiful new shoes. He even put his feet on his desk in his Beehive Office during a photo op, but nobody noticed his shoes.
Finally, at the end of the day Winston had an idea. After he prepared for bed he entered his bedroom stark naked except for his new shoes.
He said to Jan, “Notice anything unusual?”
She replied, “Nope, limp as usual.”
He yelled, “But it’s pointing at my new shoes!!”
Jan, “You could have bought a hat.”

He thinks the established diplomatic/ political negotiating methods are the only or best way to do things. Trump is meant to be “presidential” simply because he is the President and should ignore all the crap being sent his way. DPF does not understand what “street fighting” is all about. • Farrar is a swamp rat and therefore threatened by President Donald J Trump.
            What is ‘presidential’?
Shagging any fluff that blows by as Clinton and Kennedy did?
Being unable to speak without a prepared speech as was the case with murdering (half) African warlord Obummer?
Being a Manchurian candidate like Bush 43 and Obummer?
Trump is solving things that others have not in three generations.

Trump is being precisely presidential by wanting to stop war and bloodshed that accompanied sending the young men to fight on foreign soil and replacing the US labour with Asian labour.

Farrar’s mojo came from John Key so it has been absent 3 years now.
Nov 8 2016 was the day the music died for Farrar.

Perhaps Farrar likes all that killing and death perpetrated off shore by consecutive US presidents for 70 years and funded by debt.

Farrar is a sick man with severe TDS and Democratic-itis.
            He has been Pelosied!

If they made the news and current affairs like Sky in Australia and had the news as strict reporting by good journalists then I think they could make a good business out of it.
I would like to hear the listening figures for Magic talkback (ie. Peter Williams and co. ) to give an indication of what can happen by going against the mainstream.

        • Why bother.
Broadcast TV is an anachronism in 2019.
News has been the mainstay of broadcast TV for 60 years. Now you can get news updates of your phone as you walk down the street – for free.
There are so many free sources and of no less quality and generally of better quality than the biased crap that comes out of NZ MSM.

TV3 is a basically un-reality TV and USA cop shows identified by letter NCIS, CSI etc. This are available on multiple internet platforms with Netflix; Lightbox; Amazon Prime.
The big USAchannels face the same thing – ABC, CBS, NBC.
They might want to get some Times-up T shirts 🙂

Even Sky TV has realised the shift now that Fellet has stepped back

There is not really a place for these broadcast TVs. Who in 2019 buys oilskin coats when they can sources Nylon, polyester, Goretex etc
Electric cars have more relevance than broadcast TV!

  12. Diggy & I had a good chat at the Lonestar yesterday for the inaugural YSB catch-up. Putting faces to names and discussing common and diverse interests was great, over a few beers each from 3 pm till about 5.15.
We thought that, because Lonestar was down on the Strand and parking can be tight, maybe we should look at the Drivers/Sports Bar just off Cameron Rd down 11th. Ave, behind McDonalds would be more central and easier parking.
Also maybe 3 pm. was a bit early, and perhaps 4 pm might be a more convenient time for people who are still working. Thinking of meeting again on Thursday 31st. Maybe Viking could make it, and Pascal if you’re still working around here then.

  13. David Seymour urges Government to ‘recognise the folly’ of subsidising TVNZ

    https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/politics/2019/10/david-seymour-urges-government-to-recognise-the-folly-of-subsidising-tv-news.html

“Seymour said despite MediaWorks seeking a buyer who can turn a profit, that’s “never going to happen when your major competitor openly and publicly said it’s not going to make a profit or pay a dividend”.

The ACT Party leader said Kris Faafoi, Minister of Broadcasting, Communications and Digital Media, needs to “recognise the folly of subsidising TVNZ, and not requiring a dividend is an unfair subsidy”.

“Seymour said government subsidies in the TV news business “may result in all TV news coming from the Government, and that’s the kind of policy we expect out of Pyongyang [the capital of North Korea]”.

  14. This post appeared earlier on the private Facebook page of Gun Control NZ written by someone called Hera Cook:

Kia ora to our Maori Gun Control NZ members. The only Maori putting her oar into the public gun debates is Nicole McKee of the Council of Licenced Firearms Owners (Winstons mouth is closed on this). She is working for an organization dominated by rich male pakehas. These men don’t give a damn about the impact of more and more, easily available firearms on boys and young men living in deprived urban communities. Instead they go on and on about stronger penalties for gang members. Putting more and more Maori in prison. Every gang member is somebody’s son, every gang member was somebody’s baby boy. There are kids out there now being pressured and tempted. We should be aiming for prevention, for stopping the flow of guns from the source – so called law-abiding licenced firearms owners – into deprived communities. Maori (and anyone) can put in whanau or individual submissions to the Select Committee as well as signing the Gun Control NZ submission. Please tell them that Maori support gun control, tell them your stories. Like and share this post. Let it be the gun lobby not the young men pierced by the demon’s gun.

I don’t know about you but I find it insulting and offensive and not a little racist too. And this ignorant, bigoted woman is on the staff of Dunedin Uni. I believe. Shame on her.

    0

    0

    • Very insulting and offensive! She has the same reasoning as Cindy and Stu Nash that taking guns from law abiding NZ’ers in the buyback so dumb criminals can’t steal them. Hera Cook needs to look at parenting that doesn’t teach young Maori men self-restraint and thinking through consequences. Instead she says they are not responsible that they don’t understand it is not okay to cheat, lie, steal and use aggression and guns against law-abiding citizens. Hera, please don’t blame others for your own shortcomings and those of your whanau/family.

      0

      0

      • Hera Cook is exposing herself as not being an advocate for honest, law abiding Maori.
        Firstly,
        Stop killing your kids!!

        Stop killing your kids!!

    • …… We should be aiming for prevention, for stopping the flow of guns from the source – so called law-abiding licenced firearms owners – into deprived communities. …..

Then another lot wiil claim that assets like fire arms need to be redistrubuted to such deprived.

At one part maori could claim they will be deprived of taonga, and so being even more deprived, from putting meat on the table.

Raises a question, have maori not enough intelligence or are so irresponsible in their culture to be able to use guns?

      The police say similiar things.
Clamp down on where some one is illegally trading.
That guns are being stolen, but one can feel that police are not interested that much in burglaries.

Police barely acknowledge a burglary taking weeks, to come and maybe with finger printing, but far too late. Any possible witnesses are long gone, and into memory fade.
Just enough so that one can claim insurance.

Judiciary seems to give discounts to carrying, presenting guns etc..when sentences like fines (paid drip feed at a $ a week) and sentences are to be served concurrently with some other crime. Why not consecutively?
Would that be where maori ;benefit the most? // 🙁

It makes it sound as if there is a trade going on, like the musket wars.
Burglaries with cutting tools, disc grinders etc. are all seem ok.

…… the government began to seize guns from civilian hands, destroying thousands every year, including more than 15,000 in 2018. More than 483,297 private guns have been destroyed since 2003, 3000 of them surrendered voluntarily. 60 disarmament centres were created in the country. These include not only demonstrators but bystanders, and people taken from their homes without warrants. …….

Security forces …… some cases amount to torture—including severe beatings, electric shocks, asphyxiation, and sexual abuse.

….. security forces continue repressing spontaneous protests and carrying out targeted, arbitrary arrests of opponents or perceived opponents throughout the country.

The United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) ….. human rights abuses in Venezuela was “pervasive.”

….. political takeover of the Supreme Court in 2004, the judiciary has ceased to function as an independent branch of government.
Members of the Supreme Court have openly rejected the principle of separation of powers and publicly pledged their commitment to advancing the government’s political agenda.
The court has consistently upheld abusive policies and practices.

      Freedom of Expression
For more than a decade, the government has expanded and abused its power to regulate media and has worked aggressively to reduce the number of dissenting media outlets.
The government can suspend or revoke concessions to private media if “convenient for the interests of the nation,” arbitrarily suspend websites for the vaguely defined offense of “incitement,” and criminalize expression of “disrespect” for high government officials.
While a few newspapers, websites, and radio stations criticize the government, fear of reprisals has made self-censorship a serious problem.

… In November 2017, the Constituent Assembly adopted a Law Against Hatred that includes vague language undermining free speech.
It forbids political parties that “promote fascism, hatred, and intolerance,” and imposes prison sentences of up to 20 years on those who publish “messages of intolerance and hatred” in media or social media.
In 2018, prosecutors charged several people with these crimes, including three children detained after voicing opposition to the government on social media.

Corruption, weak security, deteriorating infrastructure, overcrowding, insufficient staffing, and poorly trained guards allow armed gangs to exercise effective control over inmate populations.
Excessive use of pretrial detention contributes to overcrowding.

The Venezuelan government withdrew from the American Convention on Human Rights in 2013, ……
As a member of the UN Human Rights Council, Venezuela has regularly voted to prevent scrutiny of human rights violations in other countries, opposing resolutions spotlighting abuses in countries including Syria, Belarus, Burundi, and Iran. They also refuse to cooperate with council mechanisms, including rejecting visit requests by most special procedure mandate holders
      https://www.hrw.org/world-report/2019/country-chapters/venezuela

Voted into council and Venezuela “refuse to cooperate with council mechanisms …… rejecting visit requests. ….”
That useless council knows all this and much more!

    • Hard to believe we now have armed death squads driving around the country carrying out hits. And it is only Arderns first term.

The first murders will come soon and will be breathlessly reported as alt right extremists etc.

  18. Has anyone been following the Operation Burnham hearing into the Civilian deaths in
    Afghanistan?

Is Wayne a muppet or what?
On Friday, he confirmed he had no memory of a briefing on the possible civilian deaths until recent weeks.

After looking at his diary and Blackwell’s evidence, he now had a “fragmentary memory” of being briefed on the possible civilian casualties.

    • It is well known that politicians regard strategic military briefings as an opportunity for a little close examination of the inner eyelid.
Seems Mapp has just confirmed this.

    • His mother was a narcissistic gold digging attention seeking whore. She was trash and the world is a better place for her death.

She had the best of everything and promoted as a caring person by fake news and PR management. She neglected to perform the duties of her role and played the victim.

She is rotting in hell awaiting her fans to join her.

    • Fat shaming saves lives. Fat shamers are selfless heroes who endure personal abuse and attacks for the benefit of others.

Be a hero and shame a fatty.

      • I’ve never been much of a fan of chubby chicks Kea so when the missus to be announced that she was “with child” I sat down & had a wee chat with her. I told her, as gently as I could, that if she got fat she’d be a solo mother.

Apparently it was a grossly insensitive thing to say but in her favour she’s stayed under 8 stone. 🙂
