  2. Increase in Government contribution to KiwiSaver proposed to encourage more self-employed workers to contribute
    https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/money/2019/10/increase-in-government-contribution-to-kiwisaver-proposed-to-encourage-more-self-employed-workers-to-contribute.html

“Tom Hartmann is leading a working group on KiwiSaver, and says it’s hard to entice self-employed people to contribute to the scheme.

“The incentives have to really encourage people to get engaged with it, and that’s what makes it hard,” he told Newshub.”

Hubby and I, self employed, joined KS approx 3 years ago and have found it an excellent scheme. With the ability to increase contributions as your business becomes more viable you can end up with a nice nest egg for future retirement.

    • Why you can’t you organise your own scheme like in aust.
Why do you have have to use an over bloated fund manager that always gets paid!

      0

    • Kiwisaver is an appallingly useless scheme for the self-employed.
      I am self employed.
I initially opened it to get the subsidy $1000 kickstart plus $1 for $1 on contribution up to $1000 pa (approx)
Now the kickstart has gone and it is 50c for each $1 we put in.
This $1000 we put in is out of tax paid money.
It does not stack up well and the (now gone) kickstart and match up are from taxpayers money – our money in the first place.

Unless you need kiwisaver for a Homestart loan then put the minimum in.
I have kept up $1000 pa (1044) to get the $500 but if I was to make a zero-based decision with no kickstart and only 50c to $1.00 then there is not much incentive.

This video you link to has the plonker from Simplicity – Sammie Stubbs.
Let us remember that Stubbs was at Goldman Sachs just before it took a beating in 2008.
He was there for 10 years.
Then he went into Hanover Finance with Eric Watson (now facing many lawsuits and court ordered debt) and Mark Hotchin. Great company he keeps!!
He was there in 2008 but jumped out after 6 months and just before it collapsed owing Half a $$Billion to 16,0000 ‘investors’
Still, Richard Long of TVNZ cue card reading skills told people it was a great investment.

Stubbs then went to Tower group and a moderately performing Kiwisaver portfolio that was flogged off to Carmel Fisher’s poorly performing Kiwisaver outfit.
She is now out of it and I seem to recall she retired with severe TDS!

Oh, and Stubbs was at Fay Richwhite when it was flogging off state formed assets and taking commission plus equity stake. In the USA that would be jail time. In NZ yeah, nah.

So BS artist Sammie Stubbs thinks that self employed people should not get $521 pa of taxpayers handouts but $2000 pa. of taxpayer handouts.
I guess even a start-up that does not make money perhaps for years; so pays no tax.
      Give me a break!

      https://thespinoff.co.nz/society/07-12-2016/a-war-has-broken-out-in-kiwisaver-heres-why-the-big-banks-and-funds-are-freaking-out/
I’ll back Brian Gaynor over Sammie Stubbs any day of the week.

In short, Sam Stubbs wants the taxpayer to stump up with $2000 pa for self employed in the Kiwisaver scheme..and of course how does Stubbs derive his income – of yeah, managing Kiwisaver funds.
Of course he wants more money from the taxpayer to build up his scheme.
In case you have not picked it (ya cant be that slow) I view Virtuous Saint Samuel as a charlatan.

WG- if you are self employed and dont need Homestart, an alternative is to put the minimum $1044 pa into the Kiwsaver (per person) and put the rest into a managed funds scheme where you have flexibility to withdraw or move around.
The KS monies are locked in until you are 65. Your own managed funds are not.
Oh, and pick a PIE Acct esp if on the top tax rate; notify your marginal tax rate each year.

I was mainly having a crack at Saint Sam in the video.
He reminds me of Twyford with so may fails yet an arrogant disconnect that derives from the Dunning-Kruger effect.

  4. If you start with a cage containing five monkeys and inside the cage, hang a banana on a string from the top and then you place a set of stairs under the banana, before long a monkey will go to the stairs and climb toward the banana. As soon as he touches the stairs, you spray all the other monkeys with cold water.

After a while another monkey makes an attempt with same result … all the other monkeys are sprayed with cold water. Pretty soon when another monkey tries to climb the stairs, the other monkeys will try to prevent it. Now, put the cold water away.

Remove one monkey from the cage and replace it with a new one. The new monkey sees the banana and attempts to climb the stairs. To his shock, all of the other monkeys beat the crap out of him. After another attempt and attack, he knows that if he tries to climb the stairs he will be assaulted.

Next, remove another of the original five monkeys, replacing it with a new one. The newcomer goes to the stairs and is attacked. The previous newcomer takes part in the punishment…… with enthusiasm, because he is now part of the “team”. Then, replace a third original monkey with a new one, followed by the fourth, then the fifth.. Every time the newest monkey takes to the stairs, he is attacked.

Now, the monkeys that are beating him up have no idea why they were not permitted to climb the stairs. Neither do they know why they are participating in the beating of the newest monkey. Finally, having replaced all of the original monkeys, none of the remaining monkeys will have ever been sprayed with cold water. Nevertheless, not one of the monkeys will try to climb the stairway for the banana.

Why, you ask? Because in their minds…that is the way it has always been! This, my friends, is how Parliament
operates… and this is why, from time to time: ALL of the monkeys need to be replaced at the same time.

  5. ALERT: The process of destroying (literally) New Zealand and creating in it’s place a new third world shithole called ‘Aotearoa’ has taken another important step forward.

TVNZ advertised this piece of racist propaganda on their mainstream channel, so I checked it out:

    https://www.tvnz.co.nz/shows/re

This series (called ‘Re’) is openly racist and openly anti New Zealand. It makes no secret of the fact and it proudly trumpets what it calls the ‘decolonisation’ of New Zealand.

It was made with the aid of the state’s propaganda agency NZ On Air and it is being pushed by the government’s own media arm, TVNZ.

Have a good look at this disgusting piece of mind control and weep. This is the future of our country.

*If you care for the future of your country please circulate this to as many people as possible to warn them of what is in store for them. Cheers. *

    • Seems to be the trendy thing these days to publish story after story about how miserable we all are, and this awful 3rd world hellhole we live in where there’s just no hope! The world is so cruel! We’re all starving! “Communities of colour” (commonly known as GHETTOS) are suffering the effects of climate change”

In the real New Zealand, very few of us, rich or poor, will sleep outdoors tonight. On a worldwide scale, go ahead and try to find a better place to hang your hat suckers.

  6. NZ rugby may be in trouble

I’ve been pondering the semis over the weekend and have distilled my findings down to one quite depressing conclusion – NZ rugby may be fucked up for good now.

The key points that led me to that conclusion:
    1) SBW pointedly not singing the national anthem
    2) How incredibly ill at ease Kieran Read looked leading the ABs out
    3) SBW thinks the coaching of the ABs should be decided on racial grounds, not on competence
    4) Warren Gatland is returning to bring his ‘up and under’ brand of losing rugby to NZ

The last point is probably the biggest concern. Gatland said in the post match presser “We tried everything to get on top of the Boks”. I only saw two tactics:
    a) pointless and never-ending box kicks giving away possession
    b) slowest possible clearance from rucks to feed one-up drives into the Boks resolute defence.

Any coach that thinks the above was “everything” is not going to help NZ rugby.

Plus, given how Eddie Jones has clearly taken English rugby to a new level, WTF with Gatland leading the Lions to SA next year? If England topple the Boks in the final – who would SA be more frightened of leading the Lions, Eddie (who knows SA rugby inside and out co-coaching them to a RWC victory in 2007) or Warren (who is thinks ‘kick and chase’ is everything).

Schmidt and Gatland return to bring losing rugby to NZ – hmm.

I hope like fuck that neither of those two are being considered for the ABs job – we need someone bringing freshness to the ABs, not dour, losing old school Northern hemisphere thinking back here. I’m trusting to common sense that break-dancing Razor Robertson is in the box seat though.

‘ Richard Nixon was recorded in 1971 stating that one of the reasons he did not fire Hoover was that he was afraid of Hoover’s reprisals against him.[76] Similarly, Presidents Harry Truman and John F. Kennedy considered dismissing Hoover as FBI Director, but ultimately concluded that the political cost of doing so would be too great.[77] ‘

    • Ron Mark “hopes…”

I was pleased Ron Mark stepped up as Minister for Defence and signed of on some updated aircraft. Good on him for that.

But we need more than hope from Ron Mark as Minister for Defence. The Chinese dictator ship will be as transparent and open as Ron’s colleagues in government and, at present, they would be challenging to rely on. I favour a positive relationship with like minded allies, Australia and USA. Means we have to hold our end up as best we can. I have a trust issue with our current government: I understand if our allies do as well.,

I do not see the current governments position that we are here to defend the Pacific against natures trials as sufficient. I suggest we do need to be able to defend our way of life and democracy, hopefully alongside allies, if we have to. We need to be able to say so without cowering away to a threat from the Chinese Communist Party.

It costs the taxpayer far, far more on dropnuts who have no health condition but walk into the Winz office to ensure their entitlement to a taxpayer handout. I’d rather the cost to the taxpayer went on those who actually need our help through no fault of their own.

    • I would never trust Mike King after he spent years trousering money from the Pork Board then ‘got woke’ and went all feral against them.
In other words he spent years saying good things for money despite not knowing what he was talking about – by his own admission – then when ‘clued up’ – with very biased data- he went feral.

This severely affected the pork industry in NZ and went from nearly 60% local pork to nearly 60% imported.
This parallels Ardern’s behaviour on oil and gas. Attacking local industry so that the product replacement is from overseas where we have limited knowledge of process and far less QC as well as less local jobs and diminished net overseas funds.

Whatever good he may have done in mental health must be tempered against his poor financial skills.
To offer unlimited sessions is tempting fate and is not a sustainable model.
You offer unlimited supply and people don’t value it.

Sure the tart used some emotional blackmail at various stages. But you show me many 15 year old boys that are not dying to get a bit of leg over. There are far worse crimes than a 30yr old shagging a willing 15 yr old.
