Wakey, wakey, rise and shine…..

‘Tis time my fellow YSB-ers, for all good men (And, indeed, women) to come to the aid of ‘Something’; to boldly arise and to do battle with whomever your chosen enemy of the day might be, be it work, the ‘Gummint, age, the dog or even, perhaps, the cat… (Not that you’ll ever win against the latter).

Now that you’re awake, and even if you have ‘nowt in mind (A painful affliction I’m told), have a great day, wherever you might be…

Gun laws: The Mark Mitchell-shaped mountain Nicole McKee has to climb

THREE KEY FACT

Firearms Minister Nicole McKee wants to scrap some of the firearms registry and widen access to military-style semi-automatics (MSSAs) under strict conditions.
Opposition parties are against loosening gun laws, so McKee will need the support of both National and NZ First to make the changes she wants.
Police Minister Mark Mitchell is an unapologetic backer of police, which wants to keep the registry and the current ban on MSSAs.

There’s a Mark Mitchell-shaped mountain standing between Nicole McKee and the changes she wants to make to firearms laws.

It’s not that the Police Minister and the Associate Justice Minister are adversaries on course for a duel at high noon. They’re actually mutually respectful Cabinet colleagues who are on the same page in terms of wanting to improve public safety.

It’s more that police oppose McKee’s wishes for firearms law reform, which includes greater access to military-style semi-automatic firearms (MSSAs) under strict criteria, and scrapping some of the firearms registry. And the Police Minister is such a staunch advocate for police that he isn’t likely to roll over so McKee can have her way.

More Nats. stuff.

The Government has tasked NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) with considering two potential options for an additional Waitematā Harbour crossing in Auckland, with technical work expected to begin in the coming months.

But an investment decision isn’t expected to be considered by the Government until mid-2026, which Labour says is disappointing.

It’s the first significant update from the Government in months about a second crossing. Upon taking office, Transport Minister Simeon Brown was critical of the $56 billion option preferred by the previous Labour Government, which included two tunnels for cars and one for light rail, calling it “unachievable”.

With the planed new transport link they are going to use one lane of the presnt bridge for cycling.
I hope they mean a shared path for cycling and walking in that one lane.
You realise that on the downhill section of both sides of the bridge there will have to be judder bars built into the surface to stop cyclist from speeding and endangering themselves and pedestrians.
They have inficted judder bars on motorists, so it’s only fair they get them in return. It’s for their own safety after all!!!

The way cycle lanes have been abused by councils – all started by that traitor prick johnny keys- the cyclists – under current methods would get half the current bridge.

some facts
-It is very steep – as you point out- going up; and going down.
Will the bikes need a WOF and brakes check before using it ??
-The bridge is in a gap that cops lots of wind – air movement in the least point of resistance so will be windy up there
-The bridges sway a lot anyway -as per design- and more with trucks and cars

Be alert ACC
Future trauma claims coming up.

If they are allowed up there the moaning from the cray cray genter lycra thugs when they experience a touch of reality will be heard on Raoul Island .

Interesting point. As my time at secondary school was spent in an “Ag” class, where we were considered free labour on the college farm & our education consisted of being caned regularly to prevent from eating ourselves, my advanced mathematical skills vary between atrocious & non existent.

Yet in a fairly successful working life I never needed more than arithmetic & basic geometry. The ability to calculate what 5% off something represented, the tonnage of lime/fertiliser required & how to lay out fencing were vital. Calculus & trigonometry less so.

Today the average school leaver is struck innumerate without a calculator. They know only of which button to press……not how the answer is arrived at.

A young man excitedly tells his mother he’s fallen in love and is going to get married. He says, “Just for fun, mum, I’m going to bring over three women and you try and guess which one I’m going to marry.” The mother agrees. The next day, he brings three beautiful women into the house and sits them down on the couch and they chat for a while. He then says, “OK, guess which one I’m going to marry.” She immediately replies, “The one in the middle.”
“That’s amazing, mum. You’re right. How did you know?” His mum replies, “I don’t like her.”

—————————————————–
Spain’s King Felipe and Queen Letizia have endured being pelted with mud and objects by anguished locals as they tried to calm tensions in the aftermath of the deadly floods in Valencia.

The monarchs had mud and objects like drink cans thrown at them by angry survivors of the floods that killed more than 200 people as they walked through the muddy streets in Paiporta, one of the hardest-hit towns on the outskirts of Valencia.

Queen Letizia could be seen with mud speckled over her face, while one of the bodyguards escorting the royals in Paiporta had seemingly been hit by an object as he had a cut on his forehead, which caused blood to run down his face.

The crowd shouted ‘murderers’ and other insults at the royals and government officials like Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez during the visit on Sunday.

……”at least he Spaniards got out on the streets woith the people”…….

Mixing with the hoi polloi has always had attendant risks. In WW2 King George VI & Queen Elizabeth (better known in NZ as the Queen Mother) frequently toured areas of London bombed by Germany during the Blitz. As noted in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queen_Elizabeth_The_Queen_Mother their visits were not initially popular.

# “Elizabeth visited troops, hospitals, factories, and parts of Britain that were targeted by the German Luftwaffe, in particular the East End near London’s docks. Her visits initially provoked hostility; rubbish was thrown at her and the crowds jeered, in part because she wore expensive clothes that served to alienate her from people suffering the deprivations of war.[5] She explained that if the public came to see her they would wear their best clothes, so she should reciprocate in kind”

As it turned out it was one of the best PR campaigns the British royalty ever took part in.

Damn that Simeon Brown
Damn him I say
———————————–
Bike Auckland launched the ‘Save our Safe Speeds’ campaign in opposition to Transport Minister Simeon Brown’s Speed Rule. The Speed Rule (which will come into force in October 2024) imposes blanket speed limit increases on our communities, making streets near schools more dangerous for our tamariki – and anyone else traveling along them.

7 of 10 New Zealanders are supportive of lowering speeds around schools to increase road safety. But Minister Brown would prefer to ignore the overwhelming evidence that deaths and serious injuries are highly expensive for our economy and to raise speeds, causing 55 more Aucklanders to be killed and seriously injured on the road over the next two years
—————————————————–
7 out of 10
more fake polls.
We have got to the point fake polls by media have wrecked statistics.
When would one ever believe them now ?

From the fake news idiots at Bike Auckland
https://www.bikeauckland.org.nz/save-our-safe-speeds/

————–
We believe strongly in the beautiful vision of a Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland that is people-friendly, accessible, and safe.
When tamariki (children) are laughing as they walk and cycle to kura (school) on the 30km/hr streets, it can almost feel real. And, with the approval of Katoa Ka Ora, Auckland’s Speed Management Plan, committing to more safety for local kura, marae, and residential streets, for a moment it really felt like this vision could soon be our reality.

But this wonderful progress towards people-friendly streets has been unceremoniously stalled by Transport Minister Simeon Brown’s proposed new “Land Transport Rule: Setting of Speed Limits Rule 2024”. The speed rule will impose blanket speed limit increases
—————

more lies from these munters
It is merely restoring speeds to pre 2020 levels.
You know they are on some pretty powerful juju when they say
” When tamariki (children) are laughing as they walk and cycle to kura (school) on the 30km/hr streets, ”

I want some of what they are smoking, to be sure !
Good thing they are not driving ///

An email I received recently from the Free speech Union tells the sorry, yet ultimately triumphant, tale of one Paul Burns who was persecuted/prosecuted for “standing on Lampton Quay one Sunday in March holding a sign that said, ‘$100 to the 1st person who proves that slavery is more evil than abortion’ with $100 worth of notes taped to the sign.”

Regardless of your feelings on the subject of abortion (I’m ambivalent) nothing the man did or said warranted charges of “offensive language” that were upgraded to “disorderly behaviour”.

Ultimately his case was withdrawn at the 11th hour after the FSU became involved but the entire charade shows up a real problem that seems more prevalent now than it ever has been. That is using process to deter unwanted actions.

Worth considering that to all intents & purposes the resources of the State are infinite whereas the individual can be bankrupted, made unemployed, have their relationships ruined & their social standing destroyed all without stepping into a court room.

It’s a slippery slope. Those who would use legal process to punish should be kept under careful observation.

You missed this bit. It was not holding the sign that got him arrested. Either way well out of line by the Police.

“Anyway, on this particular day, I was approached by a group of young people prepared to engage with me.
One of them proposed an argument: ‘Overpopulation is a problem, so abortion is justified.’
With that, I replied as any debater would and challenged their own logic: “If you think that the world is overpopulated, then why don’t you kill yourself?”
Well, I was handcuffed, taken to Police cells, and charged under section 1(4)(b) of the Summary Offences Act for, ‘offensive language’.”

Then came the New world one, Christ it was appalling! An incredibly super sad extremely woke story about a nurse of colour not being able to make it to dinner because she had to work a double shift! No worries, dad who is also of colour made dinner and served it to her complete with Christmas decorations in the car park. ———————————-
Badenoch is an “anti-woke” politician,[11] and she aligns with the right wing.[12]
On race, she rebukes the left’s stance on systemic racism and opposes teaching critical race theory in schools.[13]

Regarding immigration, Badenoch advocates integration centred on British culture.

On the UK’s colonial legacy, she argues there were both negative and positive aspects.[14] Badenoch is also a gender-critical feminist, maintaining single-sex spaces and opposing self-ID laws for trans individuals.

Quite frankly there are are NO ”right wing ” politicians in mainstream parties in the western sphere.
The system simply does not allow it .
Is in fact Pauline Hanson right wing ?
I see her as a proud nationalist who cares for her country and the people in it.
