  1. Yesterday I promised Stigie that I’d go back and find a historical Kiwiblog thread I had in mind, in the context of something we were discussing.

It took a few searches to track down this 2007 thread entitled No smacking compromise. For context, now only registered users can comment at Kiwiblog, but this wasn’t the case back then. My recollection is that, in those good old days, discussion was fast and furious but, overall, things worked reasonably well until around the time of this thread.

Things got off to a promising start, then D4J turned up. The madness starts here (a D4J wind-up comment from “Busted”). A massive flame war ensued between people like D4J, James Sleep and “Mrs Disgusted”. There was even a relatively benign comment from “James Sleep & dad4justice live from Christchurch Police Station”. Looking back at the thread, I’m surprised at the extent of thread degeneration.

DPF eventually stepped in: “I can confirm that an someone other than Peter Burns has been posting at Dad4Justice. If they do so again I will file a formal complaint with their ISP. The new blog backend will allow people to register unqiue identities. Movable Type should allow this but for some reason it is broken on this installation. I do not have the time to go through dozens of posts and work out which were from whom. I suggest Peter and James just both accept they have been victims of a shit stirrer“.

The issue seemed to be that D4J and James Sleep were commenting, and other people were impersonating them, and it was impossible for anyone reading the thread to figure out what was real and what was impersonation.

I guess there’s a lesson for YSB: some people seem to go out of their way to disrupt blog discussion.

    • Thanks Nostra for the time you have put in to entertain us humble folk from the years gone by.
Entertainment such as this doesn’t come too much better on any other blogs.
Btw, when does Big Bruv come into the fiasco with Dad ? This maybe before i got there !~

    • I seriously hope that this kind of idiotic bullshit doesn’t infect YSB. I’m all for free speech (yes, I genuinely am) but I don’t want to have to put up with idiots like Morrissey, Stephieboy, D4J, Hugh and others like them here.

One of the great things about YSB is that commenters here stick to the point of the discussion, we reply to each other respectfully and intelligently and we don’t indulge in flame wars and name calling.

I was a fairly long time commenter on KB, but I was beginning to get bored with it and then Farrar’s idiotic descent into the báizuǒ just finished it for me.

      • Dave, I’d never heard the term báizuǒ before.

Thanks for drawing it to my attention.

Agreed re KIwiblog – there are a lot of good folk in there … but far too many of the types you list.

The big turn off for me was often not seeing a post of mine appear for three hours … by which time it was either a) out of date or b) superceded by other comments that had also been delayed three hours.

        • Thanks Biscuit…. but we really have to acknowledge Braybot Nemesis who brought báizuǒ up for discussion yesterday on the HYS thread and I was just running with it (although I already knew it).

Braybot’s original comment yesterday is spot on and well worth a read. Cheers.

  2. Oscar Knightley shows how deluded the left are when he singles out Boris Johnson for his lies and how he won the UK Election. But forgets how Jacinda came to power and PM of NZ via Winston Peters. He goes on to say Johnstons Party only recieved 41% of the vote, but in Britains first past the post system that is all they needed to secure power and the 59% that didn’t want Johnson to win will be in a state of shock.
    https://i.stuff.co.nz/national/politics/opinion/118136676/in-politics-concepts-like-integrity-and-trustworthiness-no-longer-seem-to-apply
So it was alright for Labour and Jacinda to team up with Mr 7% and the media including this clown Oscar to tell National to suck it up that’s how the system works but when it.suits there narrative Jacinda and the Coalition can lie there arse’s off without this Journalist or past your use by date scribe calling them out for exactly what Boris Johnson has done.

  3. Here we go…

‘Not my prime minister’, protesters march in London against Johnson

Several hundred noisy protesters marched through central London on Friday to protest against Britain’s election result, chanting “Boris Johnson: Not My Prime Minister” and “Boris, Boris, Boris: Out, Out, Out”. The protesters, brandishing signs that read “Defy Tory (Conservative) Rule” and “Refugees Welcome”, walked at speed from outside Johnson’s Downing Street residence to Trafalgar Square and on to the theater district, blocking traffic and drawing a heavy police presence“.

These “noisy protesters” will be beside themselves when they realise that, under the Fixed-term Parliament Act 2011, the next UK election isn’t due to take place until May 2024!

It seems that the US (which is leaving) Australia Japan and Brazil and others! (which others) are not co-operating.

It seems that its mostly the EU (which has a lot fo money) and small island countries (that want money) that are pushing this.

  5. Flogged this from KB.. .hat tip Maggy W

“An item about how NZ’s aid money to Tokelau seems to disappear into the ether

    https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/political/405329/auditor-general-unable-to-find-how-tokelau-s-government-spent-10-million

This state of affairs has been going on for years….
so what does the CoL do?
    …allocate MORE money to Tokelau

Last year, the Auditor-General asked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade to step in and improve fiscal controls in Tokelau, prompting New Zealand’s Administrator to Tokelau, Ross Ardern, to allocate extra funding to its government.”

  6. Morrissey has been banned from Kiwiblog for a month.

[Mod: It takes a pretty twisted soul to use the obituary of a great New Zealander for a political rant which is totally off topic and doesn’t even mention Snell. Have a month off, and come back next year.]

Watch out Maggy and Waikatogirl – he’s probably about to finalise his Chez Breen swingers’ party invite list.

    • What I find amazing is that Morrissey’s comment was made at 7.39am yet he’d been summarily judged & sentenced by 8.0am.

What caused such an instant reaction from a KB moderator? Has one moderator broken ranks & doing some moderating? Have they developed insomnia? Will we ever be told? 🙂

      17

        • So dismayed with Kiwiblog these days, taken me a while but the moderation system has killed debate (fun or serious) to the extent one forgets where you are up to when commenting there, losing all sense of the thread!. Go you YSB!

          17

          • PhilP, I so agree.

DPF has a page on his blog that names and shames all those who have needed some sort of major sanctioning.

            Your name is, natch, absent.
            As is mine.
Not to mention 99% of bloggers.

Under the new regime, however, every post has to pre-approved although, quite clearly, that is a redundancy when it comes to most posters.

Exactly why DPF doesn’t take the weight off his workers/volunteers by having comments from never-before-sanctioned bloggers auto-approved eludes me.

With the clearly-stated proviso that such auto-approval rights may be withdrawn at any time.
AS is the system YSB operates…

I dunno how many posts I have made there but I am obviously now provably unlikely to rush into any ‘PhilP is a ***, a *****, a *****. And don’t START me on his mother!’-type rant.

    • I was surprised that the Indian newspaper quoted a United Nations study that said New Zealand’s Indian community was only 71,000. Think of a corner dairy, curry shop, liquor wholesaler, taxi driver, courier driver or any predominantly cash business; I thought that number would be well into six figures, not 71,000.
But taking into account that Fonterra have about 11,000 suppliers it could be said that we have less cowboys than we have Indians.

  7. US, Japan, Brazil and Australia hold up climate efforts
    https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/world/2019/12/us-japan-brazil-and-australia-hold-up-climate-efforts.html

Major economies have resisted calls for bolder climate commitments as a UN summit in Madrid limps towards a delayed conclusion.

With the two-week gathering spilling into the weekend, campaigners and many delegates slammed Chile, presiding over the talks, for drafting a summit text they said risked throwing the 2015 Paris Agreement into reverse.

“At a time when scientists are queuing up to warn about terrifying consequences if emissions keep rising, and school children are taking to the streets in their millions, what we have here in Madrid is a betrayal of people across the world,” said Mohamed Adow, director of climate and energy think-tank Power Shift Africa.

The annual climate marathon had been due to conclude on Friday, but dragged on with ministers mired in multiple disputes over implementing the Paris deal. The Paris agreement has so far failed to stem the upward march of global carbon emissions.

    How Dare they!

  8. I think we have hit the wall when it comes to Climate Change.
The recent hysteria in the media over the last year fueled by Soros and Climate Change Cover has failed and has turned most sane people off it.
Scientists cant agree if Co2 is good or bad.
    So that leaves methane.

So at Madrid they could not get many countries to agree to commit suicide, African countries want to develop, so they need power (coal and oil). China will start to look at it in 2030. India, Turkey and Vietnam are all building lots of coal fired power stations.

What would those idiots in Madrid no, if the world really started heating up every year and if the seas really started rising. Would they ask NZ to pay more?

Now the evil wankers are salivating about a meeting next year in Glasgow!

  9. Andrew Little has been mentioned a few times on this thread already, so I thought I’d check out his recent media releases. Get ready for this. On 4 December, he issued a Pike River announcement:

The next phase of the Pike River Re-entry project is underway, Minister Responsible for Pike River Re-entry Andrew Little says. “Fresh air will be pumped into the Pike River Mine drift this week, following acceptance of the plan for re-entry beyond the 170m barrier by New Zealand’s independent health and safety regulator WorkSafe.” … “This is welcome Christmas news for the families, for the Agency’s staff, and all New Zealanders,” Andrew Little said.

I guess, in the absence of being able to bottle up the fresh air and send it to the families via NZ Post, he can pump it into the mine and pat himself on the back for doing such a good job!

  10. “This is welcome Christmas news for the families, for the Agency’s staff, and all New Zealanders,” Andrew Little said.

Speaking on behalf of myself..I couldnt give a rats arse about this whole re-entry wankfest. My concern is the complete waste of our money by these bastards.

    • The other good news was the Greens vote dropped by 2.14%.
They got 1.63% or 525,371 votes.

With all the shit about the envirornment constantly in the news, one would have expected their support to be much higher

      12

      0

      • Exactly R12.

Which is why we shall now see the lunatic left in the UK switch their focus away from psychopathic Corbyn Communism to a more underground approach to get rid of the FPP system and introduce MMP. Our very own national hero Swissball Rapist heads up the UK organisation lobbying for this. Already there have been tweets about how Boris would never have gotten a majority if there had been PR. LibDems will orgasm over this prospect as PR would’ve seen them with 50 seats instead of 13.

What none of them take into account of course is that if PR had been used, the tough choice between Brexit Party and Tories would not have existed and BP would have exploded upwards – basically serving as the support party to the Tories that National lack here.

Overall, it is the only path to communism in the UK. The fight will centre around this now.

  11. Mike, re your 7.17am post, clearly my neighbourhod is better than yours, heh heh.

I can’t remember the last time I was confronted with a pic of Jass in a local bookstore.

  12. Mike:

Did you fly Air NZ on your recent trip from Bangkok to Auckland?

Revealed: Where Air New Zealand’s next safety video is heading

Air New Zealand’s next safety video will be about a young girl travelling through the country and emphasising the importance of taking care of the environment. … ‘The video is going to be a charming story of a young Kiwi girl and her new friend. It will have a strong emphasis on the importance of Kiwis and visitors taking care of our own backyard,” said the airline’s general manager of global brand content Jodi Williams. The content is very much in keeping with the airline’s sustainability push amid growing concern about the impact of flying and tourism.

      • I think you are wrong there. The new law allows Hindus from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan to come to India and get citizenship. Not muslims!

The people in Assam just don’t want more people there as they will take their jobs and houses and land etc.

  13. This lovely Sunday, I have two beautiful lamb shanks that will be charred over a wood fire in our Forno, then into my cast iron pot for a few more hours of cooking. Mama Bear picked up some eggplants, and I found a gorgeous recipe for them in the Spices cookbook. It’s grilled eggplant slices, cherry tomatoes, chilli, red-onion and all sorts of good things like that. Maybe make a flat bread to go with it all, what do you reckon?

It’s been an insanely busy few weeks, so I’m really looking forward to putting the keyboard down and doing a bit of cooking today.

Caroline Scmidt say that they need to do more.

  18. This won’t make the news. MSM would hate it because its not fake.

Trump supporters infiltrate a meeting where Adam Schiff was speaking tonight.
They were shouting liar, liar, liar…
Shifty won’t be able to walk down the street soon. Oh dear…never mind.

Anti-impeachment protestors are interrupting @AdamSchiff’s event on the House’s Armenian Genocide Recognition resolution.

Adam they didn’t buy your SHITT! Angry Constituents Fire back at Adam Schiff in California over his abuse of power!

A handful of pro-Trump agitators tried to hijack an Armenian community gathering tonight (Glendale, CA) to mark Congressional passage of a historic resolution commemorating the #Armenian #Genocide – Turkey’s WWI-era mass extermination and exile of millions of Christians.

  19. You can always tell what’s really going on when the MSM sneak shit under the radar concerning the elite.

My suggestion to my fellow YSBers is to wait for an event and read about everything that doesn’t get a light shone on it.
That way Ardern isn’t an everyday distraction that leads you away from the truth.
As far as I can see, from other blog sites too, YSB tends to sort the wheat from the chaff fairly well.
    We are the news now.
    Keep it up.
    Follow the money.

  22. Earlier this year John Fraser was banned from YSB. Apparently, among other things, he used his wife’s email account to send abusive emails to Chuck Bird.

John comments at YourNZ (where he seems to be about as popular as a fart smell in a lift) and Maggy drew my attention to this comment: “What a laugh, over on the ALT Right blog called YSB were you can abuse the PM to your heart’s content, and its TOTAL FREE SPEECH as long as hollysheert, editor allows it.I lasted 2 days after it started“.

So John, seeing as you’re reading this thread, Merry Christmas – and go easy on the alchohol!
