    • Bishop is flying a kite to see if RUCs could replace fuel taxes. Its been mooted before & there are two fish-hooks that always surface:

      1) “The poor” (who will always be with us, bless them) travel further because they live further away from work and/or the local welfare office. Therefore RUCs would be discriminatory.

      2) RUCs as now administered are fairly cumbersome & late payment is common. The only way to address this is to compulsorily install GPS trackers in cars to monitor distances travelled. These same GPS units will enable government & its lackeys to keep tabs on where everyone is 24/7. Very dangerous.

      • The poor have to pay the current fuel tax anyway so changing to RUC should make no difference. I agree with your second point though.

    • So how is this FAIR?
Stop and think for a moment.
If you are a business then the road tax/petrol tax or whatever you call it is an expense before you declare any profit or loss.
If you are a private car user, doing the same travel then it is an after tax expense that whilttles away your income. Consider a person driving to work. It costs that person to actually go to work. The employer then has to pay more to hire that person and that person then gets taxed more.
Our tax system as it is is fucked and fucks the individuals caught in it.

There just has to be a better way.

      • Hi Viking. Well it’s instead of fuel tax which you’re currently paying at approx. 66 cpl. So for some they will be better off and for some worse off. The RUC would definitely favour those who drive V8’s, which possibly isn’t sending the right message, but fine by me.

        • You have lots to learn about the machinations of politicans.
It is not that many years ago when cars were given ratings according to thier horsepower and fuel consumption. Registration charge was derived from this information.
If you think the dumb bloody Nats couldn’t reintroduce something like this again then you ain’t lived very long.

    • Since we are actually in a carbon drought and approaching dangerously LOW levels of CO2 in the atmosphere this has to be one of the most stupid and dangerous lunacies of the whole AGW scam.

    • Some bacteria already feed on oil/oil waste. Remember what happened when there was the big spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Everyone one wondered how it would be cleaned up but then they found out, that out at sea , at least , it was being gobbled up by bugs and that reduced the damage on shore quite a bit.

    • Did anyone hear a single peep from the 19 folk that New Zealand (including Tokelau) sent to this conference?
Did they achieve a single thing that couldn’t have been achieved by every country’s delegates staying at home and doing the whole thing by teleconferencing?
      Nope…
It’s all ‘See you in Glasgow this time next year’…
Let’s hope that some good comes out of it all and the Little Jimmy Shaw can bring back something decent from his side-trip Harrods as Christmas presents…

  1. So far no massive event in retaliation, but it is there, simmering away, 🙁

….. bound hand and foot. Two were urinated on, while one had a pair of socks stuffed into his mouth and was made to walk through dog excrement as part of the degradation.
One victim was told he deserved to be beaten and robbed because he was a “white man responsible for attacks on Muslims in New Zealand.”

I feel very sad that humanity is so degraded with hate that it has come to this type of disgusting behaviour. On the one hand yet we are expected to love one another and the PTPM is all about hugz etc and on the other this is what is happening in our world. Happy medium is where it should be.

  2. I can’t believe how deluded Jerome Corben is and thinking it was a lossed opportunity, people in Britain hate him with his policy but he thinks he could of won even after millions of Labour voters changed there vote to Boris to make sure he never became Prime Minister. https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2019/dec/14/we-won-the-argument-but-i-regret-we-didnt-convert-that-into-a-majority-for-change
How can you defend that defeat by saying we won the argument but never turned it into votes.

    • Nash can fuck right off. About 100,000 gun owners have effectively said that. The problem for National ( If they win next year) is how to fix this cock up. And talking of Nash, didn’t he dio a sterling job on White Island? Took the SAS to sort the issue out when a couple of helicopter pilots could have done it on the day….

      16

      0

      • Hm yes. The SAS man was raving on about what they had to do and so on. We pay them bloody good maoney and train them well to do this stuff. That they have had to use that treaining once is good as they will hve a more practical understanding of what many civilians do as their day jobs.
Think those that do forensic recoveries of bodies that have been dead in various building for a period. those that pick up body bits of the roads on a daily basis.
Its a war out there and the SAS don’t have it any worse than many lowly paid ordinary citicens.

    • I reluctantly handed in my evil firearms because I want to be able to continue being a legal firearms owner and don’t want to lose the rest. That was Saturday. Sunday the database was leaked. These clown’s couldn’t run a piss-up in a brewery. As far as the register goes, it just takes one cop on the take, or a gang sleeper getting through, and the consequences don’t bear thinking about. Nash is a smug, angry shit.

So, in reality it is happening…just how often and by how many.
Getting a co actually arrested and convicted would be te tip of the iceberg.

…A former police officer who admitted illegally accessing the police database to leak information to an organised criminal group has been sentenced to 2 years and 2 months in jail.
Vili Mahe Taukolo, 31, previously admitted accessing the police’s National Intelligence Application (NIA) for a dishonest purpose between February 2018 and March…..

“He added that Britain was his home and he didn’t know where else to go, but his family are in agreement that they should move to ensure their safety. The father of three said New Zealand appealed to him, given the humane and compassionate manner in which the prime minister of the country, Jacinda Ardern handled the aftermath of the Christchurch mosque shootings in which 51 people were killed by a far-right terrorist.”

      • They’re misinformed. The victims of the Christchurch Mosque shooting were killed by an eco-facist who identifies with the CCP. In Tarrant’s own words, there is nothing “far right” about him. But the irony of them wanting to leave a Christian Democracy isn’t lost on me either.

    • The “victims of the election”, trying to claim righteousness for their ideology.

Secretary General of the Muslim Council of Britain, said ,,,,,, ‘palpable sense of fear’ among Muslim communities around the country. …..
…… Now we worry that Islamophobia is ‘oven-ready’ for government. …..

………Baroness Warsi, a former Tory co-chair and cabinet minister, said the party ‘must start healing its relationship with British Muslims’. In a tweet, she said: ‘Endorsements from #TommyRobinson & #KatieHopkins & colleagues retweeting both is deeply disturbing. Independent Inquiry into #Islamophobia is a must first step.
The battle to root out racism must now intensify’.

Maybe this person is upset over the potential delay to the supremacy of sharia, or the loss of his fellow anti-semite in the UK election.

In perspective: The headline quotes only 1 person, who seems to be ‘pondering’ leaving.
Hardly an exodus of Muslims like the headline claims, and no guarantee of sincerity on behalf of the single claimant.
Sour grapes more likely., just like all the Hollywood bozos who were going to flee when Trump won.
      ….oh, wait….

  4. So I’m a bit bewildered.
I dropped my wee girl off to School this morning and went in to the classroom with her to give her Teachers a card and small gift.
On the wall of the Classroom is a framed picture of Jacinda Ardern, beaming down at the kids with a terrifying toothy grin…
Is this standard procedure round NZ classrooms? I can’t remember any pictures of John Key or Helen Clark….
(There were certainly none of Muldoon or Lange from when I was a kid)

          WG…
I went to a Holyoake electioneering meeting at the Hastings Municipal Theatre around the time I was first old enough to vote. It was one hell of an entertaining night. KH had a very sharp repartee and his put downs to the dyed in the wool, cloth cap wearers were hilarious.

I was sitting next to some old bat who kept bellowing out. “what about Vietnam”? ….”what about Vietnam”?

When KH finally got around to talking about Vietnam this old girl starting yelling out, “what about education?'”…. “what about hospitals?” “what about…..all the other subjects KH had just been talking about.

By comparison the Labour meeting were boring. No heckling whatsoever…too scared to… the union thugs from Tomoana and Whaktatu were all around the place.

  6. I can blow the “climate change” bullshit out of the water. This is how I would do it.

Two words are enough to demolish it – “the Pause”. This is the (at least) 18 year period during which there was **no warming at all**.
    https://wattsupwiththat.com/2015/11/05/the-pause-lengthens-again-just-in-time-for-paris/

If you have a **continuous** input to a system (e.g. manmade CO2) and you say that warming is **very largely** due to this input, you **CAN’T** have a pause when the input is continuous!
Try continuously filling a bowl with water – there is no pause. Try heating a pot of water – there is no pause! This ALONE blows the warmists out of the water.

There is more – the small issue that CO2 isn’t a “greenhouse gas” at all –
    https://principia-scientific.org/evidence-proves-that-co2-is-not-a-greenhouse-gas/

If even more is needed, look at when the earth had 7,000 ppm of CO2 in the atmosphere.
Life *thrived* then and there was no runaway greenhouse effect.

Then there are the *frauds* committed by the warmists – ClimateGate is the best-known but there is more evidence here –
“Smoking gun of temperature fraud” –

    • What a load of crap from the Notional mob.
They are more left wing now than 2008.
They are more left wing than Labour 1980s.
Notional has lead Govt for 17 years of the last 28 (60%) since RMA was made law by Notional in 1991.
      Reform, my arse.

RMA – Pushed by Soimon Upton. Notional. Mr Environment.

In 2008 Notional campaigned on reforming it and won 58 seats plus ACT (5) plus Peter Dunne (1) = 64 seats. They even brought Maori party into the tent.
      Clear majority.
      They did not reform it.
Probably never intended to. Never touched WFF or student loans either.
They did raise benefits in real terms. That helped at the ballot box…not!

They yakkety yakked about it. All words, no action.
Just like Liebour do today. eg Kiwibuild, zero roads deaths, child poverdy et al.
Bridges is so close to Liebour he is using the same methods as well as voting in everything they propose.

This is not even a pretend politicians lie. It is real lie from Bridges.
Why does he not stick to fining cyclists who don’t stay in their cycle lane?
Why does not the Notional fool stick to banning guns and pissing off over 100,000 gun owners?
Why does Bridges not stick to giving our taxpayer money away to lazy African counties because – CO2 is in the air.
Why does Bridges not stick with limiting free speech?

“We live in the coldest period of the last 10.000 years” , says
glaciologist, Jørgen Peder Steffensen who take us back in time to the Grenland icecores and reveals the secrets from the past.

1 minute 30 seconds shows an interesting graph for the past 10,000 years of temperatures.
As the 3 kms of ice cores from Greenland were studied.
From 1 minute 30 seconds shows an interesting graph for the past 10,000 years.
“Shows the temps 2.5 degrees warmer for about 3000 years or so, then the decreasing temperature to the Roman Age which was a cooling time, then increasing back up for the medieval warm period,
A decline again to about 1650, then a small bounce up to about 1800 before a decline down to the lowest point in 10,000 years in 1875.
Sort of matches when meteorological observations started.
Peat bogs, tree rings, with carbon 14 dating all confirm the pattern. from China, North Africa, Europe,
So warming is occurring this century, simply because it starts at the coldest time in 10,000 years.
That shows it is a very poor experiment, whether natural variation, or man made contribution to the current warming.”

Depends. At one every 11 months it would only take 37 years to breed 40 meal tickets. You’ve got to remember that they only qualify as DPB top ups until they’re sixteen. Then allowances have to be made for those who get kicked to death by the latest sperm donor & those who get spun to death in a clothes drier.

            https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Welfare_in_New_Zealand#Family_benefits_and_tax_credits

That last sentence told the difference. Capitalising the Family Benefit was the road to home ownership for many families. The idea may be due for another outing.

            • A good incentive to scrap & save for a deposit, then plus the capitalization, so not a total hand out, more of hand up.

Only a widow’s benefit in those days.
It was basically until death do you part. 🙂
So there was a commitment by the partners and to the kids.
Not always perfect, but it was an understood contract with the government, and particularly for the kids and the house, for better or worse.

No solo mum’s benefit, + number of sperm donors.
That is why it would work.

As soon as the Domestic Purposes Benefit came in, 1973, as soon as a kid was born, the mother seemed to have a right to a state house,
How ever it worked, the father was either put out, or continued to play the field.

That is when it seemed to me that accountability and responsibility seemed to be socially phased out, as were “shot gun” weddings.

  12. Nunes Blasts Schiff For Being a Serial Liar: ‘It’s Clear You Are in Need of Rehabilitation; It’s Crucial You Admit You Have a Problem’

Nunes told Schiff he has a serious problem with lying and told him, “It’s crucial that you admit you have a problem.”

Nunes wrote: “After publishing false conclusions of such enormity on a topic directly within this committee’s oversight responsibilities, it is clear you are in need of rehabilitation, and I hope this letter will serve as the first step in that vital process.”

    • I’ve been waiting for Bridges to to put the pedal to the metal. With Trump, Boris, Bolsinaro Orban etc paving the way ahead he’d be stupid to sit back and not ride the wave.
He has been slowly waking up, but. if he gets limp wristed…well… Labour get in again.
Now is the time to show us Nationals policies with substance. Real grit.
A bit of patriotism wouldn’t go amiss either.

  13. Sir Howard Morrison’s daughter, Donna Grant, admits four fraud offences

Sir Howard Morrison’s daughter, Donna Mariana Grant, has admitted defrauding a tertiary education provider and a Crown agency of approximately $1.25 million.

The prominent Māori performing arts educator has pleaded guilty to four fraud charges, one of which relates to the New Zealand Warriors Foundation.

Grant was the first woman to be appointed to the board of the Warriors rugby league club in 2012.

A New Zealand Warriors media spokesman said the organisation had no comment to make.

    • From WG’s link:

……”National leader Simon Bridges also says he would not work with Vision NZ, describing some of the things Tamaki has said as “wacky” and “bizarre”.”……

Get real Simon. You’re both fucked in the head Godbotherers who want to return NZ to the 50s.

      • However, it hasn’t stopped the Government from appointing Hannah Tamaki to a prestigious role: a Justice of the Peace – with Opposition leader Simon Bridges describing it as “bizarre”.

National leader Simon Bridges also says he would not work with Vision NZ, describing some of the things Tamaki has said as “wacky” and “bizarre”.

Both political party leaders put it down to extreme differences with the Tamakis. And yet despite ruling out working with her, Labour has made Tamaki a Justice of the Peace.

“Oh, these aren’t things that I have discretion over,” the Prime Minister said, when asked if she is comfortable with her Government giving Tamaki the role.

Justices of the Peace (JPs) are community leaders with judicial powers such as overseeing some trials and performing citizenship ceremonies.

JPs have to be given the nod by their electorate MP – in Tamaki’s case National’s Judith Collins. But it’s the Associate Minister of Justice – Labour’s Aupito William Sio – who made the final call.

“It’s bizarre, and you’ve just got to ask yourself, what was going through the minister’s head here?” Bridges said.
