  1. The Heralds paywall now hides all their premium content.
Hooton has gone, various other whingers have gone, Soper is still there for the moment. Its simply not worth the time of day.
Not sure what advertisers think and looking at what they call Premium doesn’t inspire me to fess up with any money.

    • LoL, a Paywall, no worries we can still find out who the Best & worst dressed celebs are, what Harry and Meg are up to, and all about Picklemania on Stuff(ed).
Let`s hope Lizzie Marvellous is Premium content.

    • If you don’t like the Herald’s paywall tell the fucking Herald.

Personally I don’t give a shit – simply because the Herald adds nothing to the conversation.

  2. One of NZ’s arch-racists, Willie Jackson, evokes a variant of the No True Scotsman fallacy: Maori in National aren’t true Maori.

“The Māori in the National Party are useless,” Jackson said in Parliament on Wednesday. “Paula Bennett, she doesn’t know if she’s a Māori – some days she does, some days she doesn’t.”

“I haven’t seen her contribution to the community for Māori kaupapa, I haven’t seen her on the marae, I haven’t seen her dry dishes, I haven’t seen her do a karanga – therefore, it should be raising the question,” he said.

Thus we have Jackson’s definition of the No True Maori fallacy. Because Bennet & co. aren’t seen by Jackson doing these things, she’s not a true Maori.

Of course, there are worse in Labour, like Peeni Henare:

Jackson’s Labour Māori caucus colleague Peeni Henare went further, actually questioning whether Bennett is Māori enough.

    https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/politics/2019/05/willie-jackson-paula-bennett-locked-in-fierce-racism-row.html

It’s the Left’s way of deflecting their own racism through fallacious logic. They’re incapable of constructing a valid argument and so must resort to such tactics.

None of this is surprising. The Left are bereft of reason.

    • I could also add, is this a confession from Jackson that he is a stalker? Otherwise, how would he know that Bennet has never contributed to Māori kaupapa, been on a marae, dry dishes or do a karanga?

I mean, no drying of dishes? How long has Jackson been stalking Bennett? Since she was a little girl?

      • Jackson & his Labour cohorts are the sock-puppets of tribal Maori. The Maori who have control of all Waitangi settlements, the Maori whose elders make a grubby living by turning up in their BMWs to remove Taniwha at great expense. The same elite who deny their own women speaking rights at the marae & ignore the needs of tribal members who have migrated to the city.

To them a successful, competent politician like Paula who advanced herself through hard work & merit is a threat to their gerontocracies.

    • Jackson is an arrogant Dickhead. I could care less if he were Japanese ffs. Hmmm, how “Maori” can one be? Imagine saying “you’re not White enough” lol.

    • Willie’s idea is brilliant, to be on the Mawree roll you must demonstrate having achieved all of the special Mawree attributes and be personally validated by Willie. On this basis the Mawree roll will shoring to single digits.

  3. There is a report on Stuff headlining that Britain is the largest recipient of sex slaves.

The report quotes one person saying the Britain is the largest recipient of East European sex slaves.

It then quotes an Italian example (the slave coming from Romania) and tells you how bad this trade is.

Unfortunately the author does not tell you who is buying these sex slaves.

Leaving aside the headline which I assume is there simply for shock/horror purposes because it certainly is not supported by facts in the story I couldn’t help think that maybe the sub-editor is correct.

Britain, particularly the North of England, has seen several trials in recent times of groups of men sharing the sexual “favours” of very young (underage) girls.

These men have been, invariably, from countries bordering the Gulf of Arabia, have had brown skin and most often follow the teachings of a fellow paedophile.

I can’t help but wonder if the purchasers of the East European sex slaves are not the same (or similar) group and if this is the reason this report attempts to shame all of Britain rather than just the people committing the offense.

  5. Islam gives men a bad name. Any female without a hijab is fair game, isn’t awful that a symbol of female oppression could also be your greatest defence.

If only male relatives see women without covering, I guess you pick the target before they get covered, otherwise you could get a really ugly one?

    0

    0

    • Islam gives Islam a bad name. As a man, I don’t see how Islam gives me a bad name. The only thing I dither on is deciding which ideology is worse: Islam or Socialism.

As for the hijab being a defence, I don’t see it being that effective, since rape in Islamic countries is almost always the women’s fault and even if the women can mount a suitable defence, she needs twice as many witnesses as a man would and even in the unlikelihood she wins, she’ll be forever shunned.

Ugly: it’s fairly easy for a man to get a divorce in Islam. I believe in Saudi Arabia sending a divorce by text is valid.

      0

      0

      • That is why I think that it gives men a bad name, it infers that males have no control over their lust, so they don’t even try and feel entitled.

Civilised man, on the whole does not. Agree totally with your statement.

Socialism doesn’t give men a licence to rape.

        0

        0

        • Socialism doesn’t give men a licence to rape.

I have almost finished The Gulag Archipelago. Would you like to revise your statement?

I’m not going to defend Islam’s idiocy, so what it infers has no bearing on me.

          0

          0

          • I will revise and say on the modern face of it, then. I do understand that it is a tactic in some wars, is that what you mean?

            0

            0

            • No, that’s not what I mean, though the Soviets did employ that tactic, e.g. propaganda by Ilya Ehrenburg to rape German women.

However, in the Gulags (including interrogation before Gulag, transport between Gulag etc), licence was given to rape. Many were also forced into sexual slavery. I’m fairly sure (not that I’ve researched it) that it was as common as grass in all the other communist countries.

  6. Ardern was hoping to be a show pony at the grand entry into the Pike Mine today with media providing photographs of her wearing a miners hat in support.

Now that the mine is not on message and scuttled Arderns media event she has a problem as the Paris trip is coming up. Watch for delays for Pike until Ardern gets humiliated in Paris and comes home with her tail between her legs.

May I suggest that she takes her miners helmet to Paris as she might just need it when the yellow jackets greet her.

  7. Apartment owners and businesses on Hobson St say homeless making their lives ‘hell
    https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=12227314

All this fake news is really starting to annoy me.
We don’t have homeless in NZ anymore as Jacinda and Labour made this one of their top priorites and have fixed this problem so I can only assume that the complainers are National Party stooges.
However I will concede it is possible these people could be “rough sleepers” which are different from homeless and I understand the targets in relation to them have recently been “recalibrated”and new figures not issued yet.
In the meantime the media needs to get it’s terminolgy right instead of spreading these false narratives……

    0

    • Certainly there is no television coverage of the homeless, so it must be fixed. Under the National Government TV news has something about people living in cars and garages virtually every night

Since there are so many candidates, there’s money to be made from each candidate’s election campaign. Millions of US dollars will be up for grabs. Any idea what shares to buy? Pulp paper (for all the circulars, posters and pamphlets), Social Media companies due to all the advertising there, are venue places listed on the stock exchanges?

This up-coming Democrat primary must be setting a record in the amount of money spent, and it’s still technically early days!

    https://www.radionz.co.nz/news/te-manu-korihi/388318/emergency-medical-staff-to-get-te-reo-tikanga-training
“The country’s leading body for emergency medicine will give all senior staff and trainees education in te reo Māori and the Treaty of Waitangi.
The Australasian College for Emergency Medicine has launched the Manaaki Mana strategy, an initiative to improve its emergency care for Māori.
It has set 18 goals, including that all senior staff and trainees do regular te reo and tikanga training, and use an e-learning resource to understand the impact colonisation and racism has on Māori communities”

More wooly feel good crap which is not going to make one jot of difference.
Wonder if it has occurred to them that if colonisation had not happened there would not actually be any emergency medicine available to Maori and life expectancy would still be down in the 30-40 year range but hey don’t let a few pesky facts get in the way of your white guilt.

  10. And another ignoramus, journalist Elizabeth Dwoskin, uses the ‘alt-right’ smear.

[Milo] Yiannopoulos, another alt-right social media star…

By definition Yiannopoulos cannot be alt-right.

    Things that make it impossible:

    1. He has recent Jewish ancestry,
    2. He is a homosexual, and
    3. He is married to a Black man.

Any single one of those criteria excludes him.

As I wrote the other day, the media simply have a new word-weapon they love to smear people with. They do not bother to put any effort into understanding their epithets.

  11. Wonders never cease in the UK!

A man who was stabbed to death while trying to burgle a pensioner’s home was lawfully killed, a coroner has ruled.

Mr Osborn-Brooks, who gave evidence via an audio link, said two men had knocked on his door, grabbed him and pushed him inside, with one shoving him towards the kitchen and the other running upstairs.

He said after he took the largest kitchen knife from a six-knife holder, [Henry] Vincent’s accomplice fled through the front door, shouting: “Get out quick, he’s got a knife.”

He told the hearing Vincent then came down the stairs brandishing a screwdriver and said: “Get out of my way or I’ll stick you with this.”

According to Mr Osborn-Brooks’s police statement, the pensioner then said: “I think you’re wrong because mine’s bigger than yours and if you don’t leave my house you will be sorry.”

Mr Osborn-Brooks said: “I was just showing him that the knife I had was actually bigger than the screwdriver. So if he was to lunge at me he would hit my knife rather than hit me first.

“I thought he would look at my knife and see it is bigger than his implement and he would take the opportunity to run out the front door, which was open.

“My intention was to get him out of the house and away from my wife.

“I still think that Mr Vincent rushes forward intending to do me harm and he ran into the knife that I was holding between us.

“He definitely didn’t try to get out of the front door, he came towards me.”

The only person I feel sorry for is Osborn-Brooks.

The obligatory “butter wouldn’t melt his mouth” from the criminal’s mother:

His mother, Rose Lee, told the hearing: “Why couldn’t that gentleman have just stepped back like a normal person would have?

Why should he? It’s Osborn-Brooks’ house.

    The sister:

Vincent’s sister Rosie told the hearing: “My brother was not a violent person. He was a father, he was a son, he was a brother. No one deserves to die.”

Except the violent bit grabbing and pushing him, and about wanting to stab Osborn-Brooks with a screwdriver, but other than those bits of thuggery, Vincent wouldn’t hurt a fly.

  13. Government to scrap benefit sanction for solo mums, among welfare changes
    https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/politics/112435767/government-to-scrap-benefit-sanction-for-solo-mums-employ-263-frontline-staff-to-help-beneficiaries-find-work
“”The Government supports parental freedom, and ensuring sole parents and their children are not pushed into poverty because of a private parenting decision that the Government has no need to be involved in.”

Oh okay so refusing to name the father so he can skip support payments and just dump the upbringing of his kid onto the taxpayer is nothing the government needs to be involved in.
Yes well that’s exactly the attitude I would expect from bludgers and their enablers in government because it’s just so easy to pass the bill to someone else instead of making people take responsibility for their own bad decisions.
    Absolutely typical and pathetic.

Aah, did reality bite again for one of the COL’s Over The Top election promises? When the Left are actually in office there is always that stubborn problem of how to finance those glitter and fairy dust election promises to the masses.

  14. Party Donations – copied from Kiwiblog for those that don’t visit –
    2018 party donations
The Electoral Commission has published the 2018 donation returns for political parties.

The returns only include donations over $1,500 so this doesn’t include the thousands or tens of thousands of party members that might donate $100 and can total over a million dollars. So it is an incomplete picture. But how much did each party get from donations over $1,500?

    National $741,915
    Greens $603,731
    Labour $173,343
    ACT $145,072
NZ First $87,870 (plus loan of $76,622)
    TOP $87,843
    New Conservative $20,028
    Maori $2,000
And who were the largest individual disclosed donors (over $15,000):

    Greens: Betty Harris $350,280
NZ First: NZ First Foundation $76,622 (loan)
    ACT: Christopher Reeve $60,000
    ACT: Dame Jenny Gibbs $56,000
    TOP: Gareth Morgan $50,000
    Labour: Robert Smellie $50,000
    Greens: Julie-Anne Genter $28,427
    Greens: James Shaw $28,387
    Greens: Eugenie Sage $28,257
    National: Graham Drummond $25,500
National: RCL Henley Downs Ltd $25,000
    National: Owen Glenn $25,000
    Greens: Jan Logie $23,327
    Greens: Marama Davidson $20,548
    Greens: Gareth Hughes $20,028
    Greens: Philip Mills $20,000
    National: Anurag Rasela $19,909
    Labour: Jacinda Ardern $18,790
    Greens: Chloe Swarbrick $18,066
    Greens: Golriz Ghahraman $17,986
Once again NZ First are hiding their funders. Off memory in 20 years of electoral donation returns they have never ever disclosed the identity of a party donor (at least not in the original returns).

    Comment from me –
You underestimate the massive support the Greens have, only 58% came from a single donor, 29% came from their own MP’s so not really a donation more like protection money. The really big one is the 12% of donations from their supporters of 153,484 who all chipped in 50c. Labours donations probably reflect their diminishing support from Nurses/Teachers/Doctors and the Unions waiting in the wings for their pay negotiations to conclude.
The donations to the PM personally from her supporters in the Kindy’s total – 1600 Used Nappies, 250 Stained Bibs and a cookie jar of part eaten biscuits generously coated in slobber.

  17. In July 2017 the powers that be, probably rightly, closed SH2 through the Manawatu Gorge because the unstable terrain was making keeping the route open overly dangerous for workers. Temporary alternatives existed, namely the Pahiatua Track & the Saddle Road, a shorter but very steep road over the adjacent range.

No one liked either option with both the traveling public & trucking firms up in arms. Considerable pressure went on the NZTA & political parties to get off their arses & do something.

Something was done & the chosen option was a four-lane highway snaking across the Ruahine Range north of the gorge, but south of the Saddle Rd. So far so good but here is where good old Kiwi inertia & bullshit cuts in.

Not a teaspoonful of dirt has been moved or a smidgeon of concrete poured. Instead the routine of land procurement & resource consents has just started. Work is scheduled to begin next year & be completed by 2024. Seven long years grinding over a goat track while a road that could be built in a couple of years goes through process.

Bullshit & the RMA have fucked NZ!
