  1. Climate change could make us dumber: [N]ew research shows that as the human-caused climate crisis worsens, one of the symptoms of our increasingly sick planet may be dumber and dumber humans. … The new research paper, written by a team of scientists from the University of Colorado Boulder, the Colorado School of Public Health, and the University of Pennsylvania, suggests that the gradual rise of CO2 levels in Earth’s atmosphere could cause cognitive decline in humans as a whole. … The researchers report that in the first scenario, students were still exposed to so much CO2 that their cognitive abilities were decreased by 25 percent by 2100. In the second, which was the business-as-usual scenario, the students were exposed to so much CO2 when the windows were opened that they experienced a 50 percent reduction in cognitive ability.

    *Sigh*

What a silly “research paper”. If these academics are looking for reduced cognitive ability, they only need to look at themselves in the mirror, and they wouldn’t even have to open a window!

    • The farcical and tragic thing is that the true facts are much more logical and believable in reverse: Thus:

“New research clearly indicates that as the level of climate propaganda that students are exposed to increases, the less educated they become and therefore the dumber they get.”

OK… I’ve invented the existence of this ‘new research’ but hey, the writer also invented his ‘research’ and mine is way more believable and more likely than the premise of the original article isn’t it?

  2. I wonder whether Winston and his Foundation have employed a new bagman to collect all those large Donations from the Racing Fraternity over the busy Xmas racing and trotting meetings. Or will he meet resistance from those that are not happy with the new laws that he is pushing in the Racing industry. One Racing club is rumored to have sold there land and track to a member for $100 to stop Peter’s new laws from acquiring for nothing.

  3. Where did the find that idiot “economist” Shamubeel Eaqub, and why does he get so much air time? This is the prat who told everyone that they should all be renters like himself, as it was a better long term option than buying. Then he changed his mind, bought a house, coined the phrase “Generation Rent”, and told renters that they’re all fucked because they’ll never own a home.

    • Very good isn’t it! Imagine what a political shockwave it would trigger if 50 or a hundred thousand firearms licence holders gave their party vote to ACT.
But it won’t happen if the vote gets split by no hope parties like Anti 1080, New Conservatives and Outdoors no matter how worthy their aims are.
If you are serious about your right, yes RIGHT, to own firearms then the aim must be Party Vote ACT.

      • Thank goodness for Act!! What a total rollover for COL policies we would have had including National if David Seymour was not there to push back against the Marxists thrusting us down their chosen path.

        11

        0

        • I have been thinking about this and how to use the rules of MMP.
If the National Party goes hard again to get electorate seats, it does not need all the party votes as they essentially become wasted —if they get say 46% of the vote they still only get 46% of the seats in Parliament . So if they get 40 electorate seats ( I don’t have time at the moment to check how many they got last time) they will only qualify for 15 list seats. 46% of the party vote (ie if every supporter gives two ticks blue) means much of that party vote is wasted.
Some bright person , good at maths, should be able to work out the balance required so no party votes are “wasted”. Going down to that cut off point would probably be risky but if say half of those could be persuaded to vote for ACT then we would easily have a Nat/ACT Govt.
I am guessing , but it might mean say 20% of National supporters give their party vote to ACT after voting for their electorate National candidate.
I am happy to be shown where my logic is wrong . If I’m right I will try to work out some better numbers in the New Year.

          7

          0

          • I have been thinking along similar lines as one of the quirks of MMP is that a smal Party like Act needs proportionately less in terms of Party Vote to get a seat than Nats do . It would be good if someone could explain the maths behind this.

            7

            0

          • Excellent Ross. I would be interested in the figures since it is just my gut feeling that the right thing to do is vote National – in the constituency where I live a blue rosette on a wether would secure the vote for National, which is what happened last election (oh I am naughty!) – and Party vote ACT. That is how I have voted since the days of Prebble, Hyde, Franks and Muriel Newman.

      • The only firearm I’d be interested in owning is a good 45 magnum for self defense.
I don’t think these are legal in NZ
(and an old 19th century musket for historical purposes fun etc)

        3

        0

        • 45 magnum is not a thing. There is the .45 ACP for the 1911 Colt etc. or there is the .45 Long Colt for revolvers. Dirty Harry’s revolver was a .44 Magnum which is not ideal for self defence due to it’s impressive recoil and muzzle blast. All three are legal in NZ given the appropriate licence. Self defence is not considered a good reason to own a firearm in this country – mad I know but that’s the law.
You can own a 19th century musket or one of the many excellent modern reproductions on an A category licence and there are black powder and cowboy action clubs up and down the country. http://www.hayes-associates.co.nz/ is a good place to shop for such repro firearms.

          4

          0

          • For self defence a decent 9mm with a large capacity magazine is probably better than a Dirty Harry 45. Admitedly, revolvers jam less often, but the kick is larger, and the capacity and reload times are an issue. The stopping power of the 45 is probably better, but double tapping a 9mm probably gets equivalent results.

            2

            0

            • To shoot a handgun well, especially in extremis, requires lots and lots of practice which is why a suitably loaded 12 gauge shotgun trumps the lot for home defence.
However, as I said, such discussions are entirely academic here because if you even hint that you might use a firearm to defend yourself or your loved ones the police will refuse you a licence.

              6

              0

      • If you are serious about your right, yes RIGHT, to own firearms then the aim must be Party Vote ACT.

While I wholeheartedly agree Alice, I couldn’t help smiling at your juxtaposition of ‘firearms’ with ‘aiming’!

Maybe you really meant to say something like this: “I’m going to bite the bullet here and say that David Seymour is a straight shooter who’ s aiming to make a real impact on the firearms issue. He’s right on target with this one.” 🤣🤣🤣

  6. Kiwi surveyor travels to Wales to take back Baldwin St’s world record
    https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/new-zealand/2019/12/kiwi-surveyor-travels-to-wales-to-take-back-baldwin-st-s-world-record.html

A Welsh town is gaining a much needed tourism boost from having the world’s steepest street – but surveyor Toby Stoff is adamant the title should be returned to Dunedin’s Baldwin St.

Stoff recently undertook a fact-finding mission to Wales, where he visited Ffordd Pen Llech in Harlech, which dethroned Baldwin St as the world’s steepest street in July.

This kiwi bloke a surveyor who takes pride in his work believed he was right that Baldwin Street was steeper so he went to Wales to measure and make sure he was correct. Good on ya mate!

      • I think it was a privately paid trip? He and his mate went. One of those rare kiwis who takes great pride in his work (surveying) and just doesn’t like the unfairness of a badly surveyed piece of road. He knew what they had done in Wales, measuring on the inside? of the tightest curve.

  7. Donald Trump invites Boris Johnson to the White House
    https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/world/2019/12/donald-trump-invites-boris-johnson-to-the-white-house.html

“Britain’s Sunday Times newspaper reported that Trump’s invitation to Johnson was made after the British prime minister’s recent election win.

Formal discussions on the exact timing of Johnson’s visit are yet to held, the newspaper reported, citing Downing St sources.”

That invitation was quick. Less than a week after Boris’ landslide election win he receives an invitation to visit the White House. Now how long ago did Cindy stick her arse on the PM’s chair? Oh, that’s right, she called President Trump “a professional arsehole” and “orange”. She wouldn’t even be allowed entry if she knocked at the gate of White House. 😂😂

    12

    0

    • Well Socialist Cindy’s chances of getting hosted at no10 Downing Street went up in smoke when Chairman Corbyn got the heave-ho last week – and as we know Socialist Cindy is terrified of Orange Men Bad and she’s already slandered Boris back in the day when she was basking in the glow of her time as a UK Labour groupie.

So as far as I can tell, her mates are:
      – a diminutive Frog who is in his second year of mass street protests wanting him out
      and
      – a black face froggie Cannuck who has half his country trying to gain independence
      and
      – the Chinese, but they’re her bosses so I guess you can’t call them mates really – more like overlords.

  10. Witchhunt as media and the left lose their minds over #TurnArdern

I think it’s clear we are beginning to reach peak psychosis with the lunatic left. I recall (I think) Jordan Petersen once explaining that laughter can cause physical pain to people suffering from delusional views unsupported by facts.

It seems to me that the Orwellian reaction of the left to the light-hearted #TurnArdern movement is seriously deranged and showing a violent and disturbing side of the rank and file passionate lefty.

For those who don’t know the back story here are the facts. A while back a fairly mild NZ Twitter troll – who goes by the handle HonestCol (@Coltheman1) – started posting images of bookstores/supermarket checkout magazine racks showing where he’d reversed covers that portrayed Socialist Cindy. This is of course a joke at the expense of the towering narcissism, vanity and self-promotion of our PTPM, what better way to get under the skin of a towering ego and personality cult than hiding their face.

As is often the way, many saw how funny and ironic this was, and started posting on HonestCol’s Twitter feed images of themselves doing the same, reporting such things as “St Heliers Pak’n’Save – all clear now”. It became a meme (and we all know how the fragile left hates a meme don’t we? You Stupid Boy – being a perfect case in point.

So now, it appears HonestCol has been doxed by the NZ Herald and as a result HonestCol (I think a retired tradie) is experiencing death threats! Think about that, the Labour party is going to attack a working class brickie because of a joke – these lunatic lefties hate us, they don’t represent us, the thought of a joke at their expense causes them so much pain they turn violent.

Of course, the Streisand Effect is kicking in, and now everyone is able to join in and enjoy what was a pretty tiny act of civil disobedience. Titans of the left, such as Chris Trotter, have commented on this – expressing disbelief and deep, deep affront about the dark and depressing nature of such a movement.

And I’m sitting here thinking, what the fuck is the matter with you leftist see you next Tuesdays – left wing movements have:
    – masked uniformed black-clad stormtroopers who appear well-funded and well-supported who turn up on demand to disrupt any free speech event
    – Extinction Rebellion, who glue themselves to streets to prevent honest law-abiding people go about their business
    – Green activists who are setting bushfires around the world so they can feed the narrative that there are bushfires because of Climate change
    – tens of thousands of shrieking females wearing vagina hats to protest against a democratic election result
    – racism, sexism and ageism as their core equality policies

and the Left thinks making a joke of a vain stupid little girl by turning a magazine cover is fascism? Holy fuck, they’re out of their tiny minds! Seems to me the vilest thing we could do to these nutters is start up a Twitter account and follow Col – to show we are with him and infuriate the fascistic left even more.

Corbyn is Cindy, Cindy is Corbyn. She is not us, We are not her.

1/. turn it face down or
2/. bury it with other books so it cannot be seen at all.
3/ buy a copy for 50 cents to use as emergency toilet paper in the bach’s long drop?

      7

      0

    • Update – witchhunt has got worse

It looks like HonestCol has decided to close down access to his stream because deranged members of the fascistic left are going on an Offense Archeaology expedition through HonestCol’s ancient history so that they can find something to get weally, weally offended about.

I tell you these people need to just fuck off and die in a ditch somewhere, although I guess it means sanity is prevailing when the extremists go so far completely off the reservation on something as trivial as this.

I hope HonestCol changes his handle to Winston Smith – although I doubt most of the fascist fucks would have the education to understand the joke he’d be making at their expense.

      Socialism is a cancer.

    • Mike:

Tony Stuart (at Kiwiblog) mentioned this Stephen Franks blog post yesterday:

Unity book-shop has attempted to minimise its sales of John Roughan’s biography of John Key. Since it was published it has been on the floor behind other stands whenever I or a friend has checked. Much of the time it was face down. I tackled a person who appeared to be an owner or manager. He said it was his staff who put it there, and he couldn’t stop them from doing it. Each time he tried to turn it face side up or give it more prominence they would return it to where people would have to ask for it expressly.

Apparently it’s different when the left do it?

        • I hoep you are right.
One of the reasons they are giving for the Labour seats going to Boris was that working people were sick of their taxes going to non working people!

  21. From Kea’s link:

……”Ardern reiterated the Government’s commitment to halving child poverty in a decade, saying the Child Poverty Reduction Act requires the Government “to set targets and report on child poverty” annually……….”This is huge as it creates a framework for ongoing action and accountability by this and all future governments.”…….

This is crap. They’ve taken two fucking years out of the decade just to talk about it. Imagine how long it will take to do something.

    Typical Labour…….all yap, no work.

  22. The media have buried the story of the unarmed non-threatening man murdered by police pretty fast.

And murder is the charge anyone else would get under identical circumstances. The bastards even charge people who accidentally shoot their best hunting mate. While those gutless cowardly pieces of shit gun down civilians with impunity.

The only grounds for shooting are in self defense or defense of another. The man was unarmed and non-threatening. Its murder.

  23. I’m a little concerned over what has happened to our beloved host. Came back from lunch as pissed as a fiddler’s cat & hasn’t posted since 1.48pm. 🙂
