Would love to watch the video you have linked but we dont have enough data at work to do so. My understanding of using salt water to fight land fires is that when you evaporate the water you get left with salt, the salt renders the ground usless for a long time, it was once a war tactic to burn villages and feilds to the ground then salt them afterwards as it would take a long time for any of the salted earth to be useable again.
True but the earth that would be salted isn’t prime agricultural land. Rather the ground has been mostly covered with concrete, tar seal, housing & commercial buildings which have likely already polluted it beyond redemption.
Being close to a major city it will almost certainly be recovered with replacement buildings & infrastructure.

That was the theory along with poisoning wells. My contention is that the ban on using seawater is crap because a) the land isn’t being used for agricultural purposes b) salt leaches out over time & 3) it takes a shitload of salt to make an area sterile.
Think of coastal areas that are covered in salt spray, salt in animal licks & salt in fertiliser used to grow grass for hay. Then it’s worth considering that at some stage about two thirds of NZ as we now know it was probably under water. (Glacial minimum).
