So these slimy Politicians’ like Labours’ Duncan Webb, are going to choose who can speak in front of the Select Committee for the “Treaty Principles Bill” with a full day of Hearings in just over a week, on 27th January.
It is claimed there has been over 300,000 Submitters, many wishing to address the Select Committee directly.
If there have been so many Submitters from the Public, how in such a short time since Submissions closed 4 days ago, have these slimy Politicians been able to wade through all the Submissions and been able to choose a fair cross section of opinions.
Having such an untrusting opinion of people like Duncan Webb, one can only jump to the conclusion that the Submissions the Select Committee hears, will favour those Members opinions who sit on the Select Committee Panel and as such their findings come out against against the contents of Seymours’ Bill.
It will be interesting to see which Politician does not believe in “One Man, One Vote”.

If there were maori kids punished for speaking their language at school it is at least 4 generations ago if not more. My understanding is that it was at the request of maori leaders who were desperate for their kids to learn english. Having been to School with Maori families like the Pou’s, Kapa’s and the Scottish Maori, the Ogilvy’s and having Maori Teachers like Mrs Kapa, I never witnessed any of this claimed bullshit that Maori had their language beaten out of them. Maori were treated with the same respect and decency that everyone else was. This was was not long after WW2 had laid waste to my Father.
In the same era (1954 to 1956) but in a Ngati Porou stronghold my brother & I made up the Pakeha part of a 22 pupil primary school. Te Reo was banned on the school grounds & classes were in English but (surprise, surprise) not at the insistence of the Education Dept. Rather it was the Maori parents who demanded that their loinfruit learn English as it was the language required to get decent employment. Maori was reserved for the marae.
As could be expected the rules weren’t obeyed out of earshot of the teacher so we ended up quite fluent in playground level Maori. We were also exposed to an early form of racism when we were invited to Maori homes for kids’ birthdays & their parents decided that English was to be the means of communication for the afternoon.
The parents thought it a great opportunity for their children to practise their English. Our classmates were less impressed with the idea. 😉

The NZ Edutech Trust collected over $500,000 in grants and promised to do lots of good work – but has been struck off the Charities Register for legal breaches.
A charity exposed by Stuff for taking large sums of community money with no evidence it was doing any work has been removed from the Charities Register for “significantly and persistently failing to meet its obligations” under the law.
The NZ Edutech Trust, which said it would work with children and schools, offering educational classes, tai chi, art workshops, parenting courses, cultural festivals and even try to alleviate poverty, received more than half a million dollars in community funds.
But the Department of Internal Affairs (DIA) has now said it has found no evidence the trust did that work. They are continuing to investigate the trust.

What I miss is the list of the the last 15-20 commentators, as the “newest first” does not show when somebody has commented on a thread.
It only shows the latest of the start of a possible thread.
So it is only when I scroll at the end of the day, then to find a number of comments that I had not seen through the day.
Appreciate the colour change on up/down tick does help to scroll faster, though when getting over 70-80 comments takes too much time.
Sure it is ok to scroll a bit when only 20-30 comments, but when higher number of comments, becomes tedious, to do that all the time.
Also that commentator list lets one know if on another post, other comments are added.
Though I do realize that some commentators have been derailed & are commenting on days old or more HYS ^ 🙂
