    • Good morning Diggie my friend. And to my other friends here who constantly enlighten and engage me with your discussion and opinions.

It’s shaping up to be a lovely day here in the Waitakeres. My ebike is charged and ready to go, so I’ll probably be off to chase some BMW roadsters sometime today 😀
      Cheers

  1. Is this just another attempt by the media, David Clark with the Coalitions help to put more blame on National in Election year for the inept policy and waste of billions of dollars with poor decisions.
    https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=12295554
National cannot say they haven’t contributed to this problem but the blame game the Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern with the help of Health Minister David Clark need to face reality as these problems come from successive Governments of many years. So this is a bit rich and the media need to address the facts instead of the bullshit they are pushing to keep there Glamour Girl in power.

    • The wastage on the following could have been spent on our health sector:

Appeasement and office fund for Pyke River Mine
      250 government working groups
      Millions to the Islands
      Twyfords Kiwibuild FAIL
      Twyfords Train set FAIL
Come one, come all for life on the benefit, no questions asked, no personal responsibility required
3 Billion$ slush fund for Shane – fail
      mulching thousands of forestry seedlings

      • I was recently speaking to a West Coast identity who was on holiday in Aussie. He has some involvement in the Pike River Mine gravy train that he called a cash cow.

In relation to costs we ain’t seen nothing yet. He understands it will blow out big big time (Don Trump would call it bigly) as it’s a matter of
timing owing to walking birds forthcoming wedding.
The left who are concerned about the forth coming election are desperately seeking good news stories and no matter what the result of Pike is, it will be trumpeted as a success and a smack in the chops for National who “did nothing”.

  2. ‘You have not seen the last of us’: Greta Thunberg delivers warning to world leaders
    https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/world/2020/01/you-have-not-seen-the-last-of-us-greta-thunberg-delivers-warning-to-world-leaders.html

“Swedish activist Greta Thunberg and a crowd of some 10,000 protesters marched in the Swiss city of Lausanne on Friday before many of them head to Davos next week to challenge political and business leaders to combat the climate crisis.

The 17-year-old, who launched the #FridaysforFuture movement that has sparked global protests, denounced a lack of government action to cut heat-trapping emissions before it is too late.

“We are… an alliance that is organising next week in 20 countries to say: ‘time is up’ to the World Economic Forum in Davos. Time is up,” a Kenyan activist, Njoki Njoroge Njehu, told the crowd in Lausanne.

“It is time to abolish billionaires. It is time to abolish billionaires, because we cannot afford them, the planet cannot afford billionaires,” he said”

  3. Actor Lawrence Fox was called a white privileged male by ethnicity lecturer Rachel Boyle on Question Time UK at which he responded by calling her racist this was in response for denying Megan was hounded out of Britain for being mixed race. She responded by calling him out as white privileged male. He said “I can’t help what I am, I was born like this. It’s an immutable characteristic, so to call me a white privileged male is to be racist – you’re being racist.
At last, someone answers back. Hopefully will be a ground swell of people not standing for the being called racists now.

    • It’s a good indicator how BBC Question Time so often seeds it’s audience with left wing activists and actors to posit their own brand of progressive hate speech – the BBC has lost it’s way even possibly more so than the UK Labour.

I hope Boris has the balls to euthanise them, there is no way back for them. This is the institute that sheltered Jimmy Saville and Rolf Harris. At some point we have to in, TS Elliot’s words, resign ourselves and say “these things have served their purpose, let them be”.

The age of state sponsored terrestrial broadcasting has long-since past, the idea of a ‘licence fee’ in the internet age is just plain childish. They may as well be driving around in steam powered detector vans, wearing top hats and tails. It is the very definition of an anachronism. The BBC wouldn’t give a platform these days to:
      – Monty Python’s Flying Circus
      – Fawlty Towers
      – Clarkson’s version of Top Gear

these things were mold breakers and they were what the BBC was there to do. Today they are mired in the same Corbynista thinking that has resulted in UK Labour being evicted from their ‘red wall’ seats and looking down the barrel at ANOTHER generation in opposition. Unless there is a parallel universe where a new fresh, non-woke BBC exists that can be transplanted root, branch and every employee at every level to our universe – there is no conceivable way to put Humpy Dumpty back together again. It is a dead broadcaster, it has ceased to be, it has expired, it has gone to meet it’s maker etc.

  4. 40% Of Countries In The World To Experience Civil Unrest In 2020

The report predicts that the intensity of unrest is likely to be higher than 2019 due to the danger of protesters being on the receiving end of human rights abuses by authorities.

The study names major countries such as Russia, China, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Thailand and Brazil that are all likely to experience major social disorder.

It also warns corporations that they will be seen to be siding with authoritarianism unless they act responsibly in the affected countries.

  9. Volcanoes melting West Antarctic glaciers, 3 new studies confirm

This is an event that obviously pre-dates human involvement. Additionally, neither this study or other previous studies have found evidence that the giant East Antarctic Ice Sheet (EAIS) retreated during the same ancient time frame.

This strongly indicates that ancient ice melting of the WAIS is almost certainly related to underlying bedrock geothermal heat flow from geographically specific geological features and not worldwide atmospheric global warming.

  10. TV veteran’s sex assault trial: Complainant threatened to ‘take down’ accused (and the) company.

Apparently a ‘TV veteran’ is on trial for sexual assault but, even though his name is suppressed, the NZ Herald sees fit to gleefully spread all the salacious bits, leaving the readers to salivate over his identity.

    https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=12301362

This is totally irresponsible journalism – as is the practice of name suppression in the way it is often practised in the law.

To drop hints and innuendo does nothing but cast doubt on all ‘established’ TV personalities. Earlier this guy was described as an ‘entertainer’ and now it has advanced to ‘TV veteran’. How bloody helpful to the careers and reputation of scores of men working in TV!

During the trial, by all means suppress the defendant’s name because his guilt hasn’t (yet) been established…. but don’t go slurring every TV personality’s character by innuendo. To do so just invites malicious gossip.

If this guy is found guilty, then his name should certainly be published…. but often suppression continues ‘to protect the victims’, or some such bullshit. This stinks.

Name suppression prior to the verdict should be a given, but if guilty then all criminals should have their names known with no exceptions. But prior to this, the media should butt out and not irresponsibily spread innuendo and encourage gossip.

    https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/new-zealand/2020/01/firearms-incident-in-ruatoria.html

A witness told Newshub he heard four or five gunshots, and believes it was a gang confrontation.

“We heard a vehicle take off at speed, and within about the next 30 seconds we heard a big crash. It crashed right outside the local Four Square supermarket. It looks like it rolled.”

He said a Mongrel Mob member got out of the car, and he could see “a couple” of firearms. Another car soon arrived and took the unhurt driver and the weapons away before police arrived, he said.

“They sped off into the distance.”

The witness said police appeared to have the situation under control now.

Good to hear “police appeared to have the situation under control now” but have they raided the Ruatoria gang pad and homes of gang members for firearms, or do police only raid and search for licensed firearms of easy target innocent Christian conservatives?
Another incident with another unlicensed firearm being used. What do you say Stuey Nash????! 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡

Catholic priest ‘confessed 1,500 times to abusing children’, victim says mandatory reporting could have saved him

“A former altar boy who was allegedly sexually abused by a serial paedophile priest says he could have been spared if the Catholic Church enforced mandatory reporting of crimes admitted in the confessional. … Maurice Blackburn lawyer Jed McNamara, who is representing Greg, said an affidavit filed by McArdle in 2004 revealed he confessed 1,500 times to 30 different priests over a 25-year period“.

That’s a shocking statistic. But I’m curious about something: how was that statistic recorded? Do priests keep secret personal logbooks of confessions made?

    • But I’m curious about something: how was that statistic recorded? Do priests keep secret personal logbooks of confessions made?

At her new party’s launch event in Auckland this afternoon, Mrs Peterson was adamant the new venture “is not a spinoff of NZ First, nor is it a party developed by a disgruntled ex NZ First candidate”.

The party has been 18 months in the making and is described as a centralised party, which has “evolved out of frustration and concern for the way in which wealth, resources and the needs of New Zealand citizens are being, and have been, managed”.

You do get the impression he has been rather sheltered from real life.

    • You’ve got to keep a weather eye out for those pukeko. They’re vicious when provoked. 🙂

But the agents from your local Kingdom Hall are a hardy bunch. Locally they hunt in packs & it’s very difficult to tell four mad women to fuck off the front porch & close the gate behind them. This is where you need a secret weapon.

About five years ago my normally level headed sweetheart of nearly fifty years had a rush of blood to the head when told that Chez Nasska would not be the home to any scungy cats so long as my name was on the land register. It was a battle I’d fought & won on many occasions but this time she decided that she was going to have a pet come hell or high water. A few weeks later she comes home with a pedigree German Shepherd bitch puppy!

We were farmers & Shepherds are one of the worst wool classers on the planet but it made no difference. The dog was staying & worse it was to be an indoors pet.

I was snookered & the situation was heading south. The cook has no idea of how to control dogs & things were rapidly turning to custard. In the end I had to take over & Tara responded quickly. She’s highly intelligent & loves the missus dearly but ignores every word she says & spends most of her time with me. I get bored easily so I started teaching her a few commands & eventually a few tricks.

Now that we’re retired & in town she’s at my feet every time I have to answer the door. If it’s Godnutters selling their crap at a signal Tara turns into mad dog, snarling & barking until they’re back on the road. Ditto for anyone else wanting to waste my life with their rubbish.

She’s more effective than a loaded shotgun.

      • Nasska…snap!…my level headed sweetheart works and stays in town for three nights a week (over an hours drive away) and I’,m left with baby sitting her pooch. It’s a Foxy so is great on possums and rats, but its still like having a kid about the place in that I have got to remember to feed her, keep her entertained and make sure her water bowl is still full before the misssus gets back, (despite a creek on the property).

  25. Hi YSBers,
I am going to do a longish post. This has to do with the Virginia gun protest, but I believe it should be read as it will probably be put in place here if it succeeds.
This is the first part posted today on facebook ( I don’t have Facebook) by Senator Amanda Chase.
Found as repost from FB :

From Senator Amanda Chase (very much on our side) from the past hour: Senator Amanda Chase· Sadly, I am posting this, knowing that the Governor of Virginia has declared a State of Emergency in our state.I want you to be aware of how we are being set up.Does the Patriot Act ring a bell?Does the National Defense Authorization Act ring a bell?If people show up wearing any kind of uniform, patch or other symbol on their clothing signifying they belong to a militia and something goes wrong, you could/will be held as a domestic terrorist. If anyone steps out of line, all it takes is one person, it may even be a government plant….if that plant does anything to disrupt the rally, you could/will be arrested as a domestic terrorist. The Governor, using the media has already set the stage for this to happen. He has already laid the groundwork to make the entire movement look like insurrection. It will be used to put the rest of the nation on notice of what will happen to you, if you resist. They have used the Southern Poverty Law Center over the last 15 years to lay the groundwork. They have labeled us as potential domestic terrorist for a long time now.Anyone who has ever related to the 3%er’s, a militia, or just belonged to any Patriot group…the groundwork has been laid to brand you as a domestic terrorist. They have gone out of their way since the Obama years to insure they had us labeled, but it didn’t start with Obama. It started with the Patriot Act under the Bush administration. We are being played by a well oiled machine, these things have been in the works for many years. They are kicking things into high gear. Military veterans were/are even listed as potential domestic terrorist. We were told not once, but several times by the current President, “It’s Not Me they are after, It’s You, The American People.“Their actions over the last three years have shown you he was right, they are coming after us full speed ahead and they aren’t even trying to hide it anymore.
Sic semper tyrannis, keep your head on a swivel and know what’s going on around you at all times, at Lobby Day 1/20/20.
Everyone be safe out there….Thus always to tyrants.

  26. ‘It’s personal to me’: Iraqi refugee Dalia al-Aqidi is running for Congress against Ilhan Omar with a powerful, pro-American message [video]

    https://twitchy.com/sarahd-313035/2020/01/17/its-personal-to-me-iraqi-refugee-dalia-al-aqidi-is-running-for-congress-against-ilhan-omar-with-a-powerful-pro-american-message-video/

Al-Aqidi has a powerful story and an important message: unlike Ilhan Omar, who frequently hides behind her background to trash America, al-Aqidi’s background has helped her to appreciate what makes this country so exceptional.

  27. Acouple of bits of history for youse.
Was in Gisbourne a couple of days ago. Cold, windy

German submarine’s secret WWII ship-sinking mission to NZ

U-boat avoided running aground as it entered Gisborne Harbour with only 1m of water under its hull – and remained undetected
Seventy years ago today, a German submarine entered Gisborne’s port on an unsuccessful search for ships to sink in New Zealand waters.
Kriegsmarine U-boat U-862 entered Gisborne harbour on the surface at midnight on January 15, 1945.
It was an unusual and risky move, in a tight space and in shallow water.

Seventy-five years ago, Germans fired a torpedo at a boat leaving Napier port
Somewhere out there on the sea floor of Hawke’s Bay is a 7m, 2-ton German torpedo.

It has been resting there since January 16, 1945, and for all intents and purposes it would likely still be listed as “live”.

For it failed to reach the target it had been directed at — the 720-ton coastal trader Pukeko which had just left the Port of Napier.

For the skipper of the German submarine U862, Commander Heinrich Timm, it was a further disappointment in their quest to knock out allied shipping along the eastern seaboard.

The Port of Napier had been an important part of the supply line to the US forces in the Pacific with “feeder ships” making 34 visits to Napier on the supply runs between 1943 and 1944.

      • Last Week
Oh, the new-chum went to the backblock run,
But he should have gone there last week.
He tramped ten miles with a loaded gun,
But of turkey or duck saw never a one,
For he should have been there last week,
        They said,
There were flocks of ’em there last week.

He wended his way to a waterfall,
And he should have gone there last week.
He carried a camera, legs and all,
But the day was hot and the stream was small,
For he should have gone there last week,
        They said,
They drowned a man there last week.

He went for a drive, and he made a start,
Which should have been made last week,
        For the old horse died of a broken heart;
So he footed it home and he dragged the cart —
But the horse was all right last week,
        They said,
He trotted a match last week.

So he asked all the bushies who came from afar
To visit the town last week
If they’d dine with him, and they said ‘Hurrah!’
But there wasn’t a drop in the whisky jar —
You should have been here last week,
        He said,
I drank it all up last week!

      • Well I was close. Was at Mahia and the weather there was fairly nice. Missed the windy bit becuase I was in Eskdale where we were quite sheltered.
Surprised at how green the hills were leaving Gissy. All the way through to Edgecumbe. Lots of grass and not much stock. Normally dry as this time of year.
Lots of raod works.through the gorge.

      • Not true apparently if you read the articles. The rumour was that they went and milked some cows but that wasn’t true either.
They were shit scared of getting caught as they started out with 2 other uboats which were sunk by the Aussies.

  28. Viking…seemed a tall story..especially since that coast line had numerous concrete bunkers/pill boxes along it that were fully manned.

“The temporary operations by U 862 close the coast of New Zealand has repeatedly given reasons for wild stories around the voyage of that U-boat, best of all certainly that of the clandestine milking of New Zealand cattle during the night by members of the crew detached ashore to improve the food supply on board. On 18 January 1994 even the newspaper “The Times” published an article about that reporting from a certain New Zealand farmer Frank Steiner who was seeking for some answers to the fact that some of his cattle were being milked clandestinely during a night in January 1945.

The orign of these myths around the adventure of U 862 and her crew going ashore in New Zealand seems being a rather accidental meeting at the end of 1959 bet-ween the Station Commander of the then RAF Airfield of Jever nearby Wilhelmshaven, Germany (between 1951 and 1961 Jever airfield was a RAF Air Station before being handed over to the German Luftwaffe), the New Zealand born Group Captain Sidney Rochford Hughes, and Commander Heinrich Timm, having re-joined the Federal German Navy in 1956. GrpCapt Hughes was a highly decorated officer born and grown up in New Zealand, who joined the RAF in 1938, being

appointed Station Commander RAF Jever between 1955 and 1961, to later act as Air Officer Commanding Far East Force (1966-1969) even holding the rank of Air Marshal and receiving honors as KCB. Ex CO of U 862 and now Federal German Navy Commander Heinrich Timm was the first Commanding Officer of the training frigate Scharnhorst (F-213) in 1959 and 1960. At this social gathering, most probably at the officers mess at RAF Jever, both officers exchanged war stories, when Timm countered the stories of the New Zealander Hughes by inventing the own story of having sent some of his U-boat crew ashore in New Zealand in January 1945 to improve the food situation on board by fresh milk taken from New Zealand cows during the night. Years later Hughes spread the story, inter alia through an article in the veteran´s magazine “Review”. Eventually, this clearly cock-and-bull story started to make an own life as a factual event, causing repeatedly some excitement among first time listeners.”
