  2. Tracey Martin will not be tested, despite meeting with infected politician
    Andre Chumko19:05, Mar 14 2020.

Internal Affairs Minister Tracey Martin will no longer be tested for coronavirus, despite meeting with a now-infected Australian politician.

On Saturday, a spokesman for Martin said she was feeling fine and showing no symptoms of the virus. New Zealand reported its sixth confirmed case of the virus on Saturday – an Auckland man in his 60s who recently returned from the United States.

“She will continue to self-isolate for a further seven days until next Friday, when it will be a fortnight since attending a meeting with Australian Minister Peter Dutton,” Martin’s spokesman said. (who has been tested positive for the virrus.)

    • Misdirection – what do they want us not to be watching right now?

Something weird is happening in the world and it feels like our attention is being distracted from some very important things:
      1) The Trump economy was booming, hundreds of thousands of jobs being created every month – we’re not looking at that now
      2) A platform for the ultimate globalist puppet – Hilary Clinton – is being prepared. We should be aghast that the DNC are putting up a candidate like Biden who can’t string a few words together coherently without flipping into Alzheimers’ rage. We’re not looking at that now
      3) The Hong Kong democracy protesters haven’t gone away – their concerns are still as valid as ever. We’re not looking at that now
      4) France is still being torn apart by globalism. The Gillets Jaunes haven’t gone away. Will Macron use Corona virus to implement martial law to prevent the weekly protests that are well into their second full year? We’re not looking at that now
      5) NZ has been tipped into a recession by a bobblehead idiot and a war is being waged against capital in an attempt to turn us into Venezuala. Freedom of speech is receding as we’re all self-censoring our daily lives. We’re not looking at that now.
      6) Turkey looks like it’s trying to start a war on the Greek border with the military acting on behalf of the invaders. It’s part of a collapse of everything that the EU has become – the free movement of people is killing Europeans as disease moves freely. Borders have NEVER been more important than they are now. The EU is going broke as all of the basket-case states want more subsidy with only a bankrupt Germany to pay for it. We’re not looking at that now.
      7) China has always had a much longer political planning horizon than the rest of the world. Our politicians think in 3-5 year election cycles. China takes a generational view of things. What do they care if they lose a fraction of two thirds of four fifths of fuck all of their population if the Western world experiences a financial collapse. We’re not looking at that now.
      8) The best way to control a population – even if it is of the whole of the Western world – is to keep them gripped in fear and in need of protection by the state. It’s clear that Climate Change is failing to do that – Viola! A seemingly man-made virus appears to be the best tool ever to stop us moving around, making money, etc by keeping us in fear for our lives. We’re not looking at that now.

Something doesn’t feel right about the way the world is working at the moment. I don’t know why or how – but I think we’re all going to get royally fucked in the next 18 months somehow. Why do the globalists want a disarmed population so badly??

    • Maybe because of this ( in Australia)

From a Doctor friend of mine.. “However, we are running out of the reagents for the test and we are no longer going to test anybody who is sick. They will just force them to self isolate at home. Therefore, the policy of waiting for a positive case is obviously stupid. ” Of course this has been widely reported on in the MSM //Sarc.

    Worth a read.

    https://www.nzherald.co.nz/business/news/article.cfm?c_id=3&objectid=12316734

Amid these precautions, people should understand that surfaces that contain the virus – known to scientists as fomites – are not the major drivers of this pandemic. Covid-19 is primarily spread through direct person-to-person contact.

“It may be possible that a person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly their eyes, but this is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads,” the CDC says.

  7. So according to woke urban Labour/Green voters we don’t need farmers and they should be banned.

The loss of tourism and farming should teach them a valuable lesson about their place on the food chain. Our second biggest industry, tourism, is stuffed. Great time for farmers to join forces with foresters and cut supply of food and loo paper.

Well said about the tiny group of anonymous clinicians.
    Some observations:
    – Among the tens of thousands of travellers who arrived in New Zealand from China in the weeks before Covid-19 was a thing, and among the hundreds of thousands who continue to arrive from everywhere not yet subject to a travel ban, is it remotely conceivable that there have not been persons incubating the virus?
    – The number of tests (PCR on nasophayrygeal swabs) doen still numbers in the hundreds, and are tightly rationed to those who meet the “case definition”. Basically this means extreme confirmation bias. No-one who has not travelled from China, Iran, Italy and has respiratory symptoms will be considered for testing.
    – The test has unknown and probably rather disappointing sensitivity (this is a measure of the proportion of persons with the disease that will be picked up. Only if a diagnostic test has 100% (or close) sensitivity can it be relied on to rule out a disease. That this test doesn’t is demonstrated by the fact that the first (recognised) case in New Zealand had two negative tests before the third came up positive. The Chinese experience is that even seriously ill cases can have negative nasopharyngeal swabs (the usual in New Zealand), even if they have the virus demonstrated in blood or stool. Yet whenever testing is mentioned the implication is that negatives rue out the disease.
    – Most (pretty well all) other respiratory viruses, like influenza and the common cold (some of whcih are coronaviruses) spread more effectively and cause more symptoms in the winter months. If this is true of SARS-Co-2 (the virus which causes Covid-19 the disease), then the relative sparing of the Southern Hemisphere to date, including New Zealand, is a matter of season, not good management.

My guess, and I would be very pleased indeed to be shown to be wrong, is that Covid-19 is smouldering away beneath the radar in NZ, but come the colder weather we will see an explosion of serious cases. This will coincide with the seasonal ‘flu epidemic, but while the incidence and morbidity of influenza is constrained by vaccination, that of Covid-19 will not be. Given that seasonal flu regularly test the limits of both general practice and hospitals, the additional burden will be crippling.

It is too late, and futile, to try to keep the virus out, the only possible way to make the impact manageable is, starting now, to instill habits of social distancing to flatten and thus spread out the epidemic curve.

  10. Strategic planning, a consistent approach, and clear straight-forward communication. These are critical in a crisis. The Government needs to lift its sights from the daily news cycle and stop the yo-yoing around.
they need to tell us much more about how they are preparing for what is coming. The winter flu season is on its way, and it’s likely to be a lot worse than usual. What contingencies are being put in place; how many temporary extra beds will there be in each hospital; what temporary hospitals have been leased, what protections are in place for medical staff?

    https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/health/coronavirus/120280988/the-government-needs-to-step-up-on-coronavirus-before-its-too-late–steven-joyce?cid=facebook.post&fbclid=IwAR2oScRoCy_7oLuVKNraS6uVa10P1V3dX4oPiWa9Lqs5422hnidYBUO_t_4&fbclid=IwAR1dciR1ko-4NtgsWzNMjLyG4Fisk3806O4HPfyOxPgQxuCTpy7NjNOvFzM

The yo-yoing continues. Some big events are cancelled, some continue. Pasifika is definitely on and then a day later it’s off. The 15 March Memorial continues until it doesn’t. Goodness knows what the Government will decide about schools.

There is little doubt we need a much clearer strategy, and consistent communication. It is clear many more cases of Covid-19 are likely. Being in the Southern Hemisphere and heading into winter will surely shorten the odds.

      Lazy.

So there are more ‘recovered’ cases as time goes on. Big whoop.
That is patently obvious, since even severe cases will either recover or die after a passing of a few weeks.
More cases + time = more recovered.
      Slow clap earned…Clap. Clap. Clap.

But again, like your comparison of mid-Feb and mid-March figures on growth, {ignore the transfer of the epicentre) you seem to be cherry picking for some particular angle you are fixated on.
I would prefer to watch this unfold, rather than latch onto one narrative or one angle and turn it into knuckle dragging level of debate…..If I can even flatter your style of posts as a debate.

Below is a LINK to a video which rather puts a simple-minded “we have more recovered cases now than we did previously” into the ‘So Fucking What’ category.

What does all of this mean? Time will tell.
Cov-19 is somewhere in the spectrum of a Big Nothing and the End of the World.
My bet is somewhere in the middle of the two extremes.
I don’t have any side or win/lose in this event. I just think you come across as a conceited and loud mouthed dickhead who knows no more than anyone else with access to Google.

  12. Anyone else having a wasp problem?

I’ve dealt to two Asian paper wasp nests in one of my shrubberies (3 stings only), but am wondering how to finish off a German wasp infestation in a raised brick border alongside the house/driveway…… looks like the buggers have got in between the brickwork (70 years old and held together by a ficus vine) and have tunnelled into the soil….. Hubby gave them the petrol treatment last night…(fumes all through the living room, txs)…but I’m not too sure if that’s done the trick…still seems to be a few wasps flying in and around the entry hole, which is rather difficult to access because of the thick ficus stems.

Anyone know of any other poisons/ methods to kill the colony?

    5

    0

    • I have killed hundreds of nests for study purposes.

We would put a teaspoon of Carbaryl powder in the entrance. The workers pick it up on their bodies and die. The Queens won’t die as they dont fly in and out.

It’s that simple. We used to laugh at the elaborate and dramatic ways people dreamt up to wipe out nests.

DON’T LIGHT THE PETROL. The fumes will do it.

      5

        • Thats not a silly bit of advice.
Late last year we did a clean up job on a house which had a fire.

        • Wiggles, oh for God’s sake. There may be other insecticide powders.

Or just have some fun, and wasp stings, using the more exciting methods you will hear about.

I needed to preserve the nests for further study, so flame throwers and explosions were out. 🤣

          4

          0

          • There may be other insecticide powders.
There may well be, but I’m from Presbyterian stock and I’m not going to waste money on something if there’s a cheaper more convenient method.

            (we’ll try the Turps method)

            7

            0

            • Make your own Napalm
put a litre or 2 of petrol in a jar.
stuff it full of polystyrene foam until it is saturated. Takes a lot of foam. Once it wont dissolove any more, you are finished.
Pour the sticky mix in the hole and chuck in a match.

Do it at night when the wasps are in their nest and cover with something non flammable to stop them escaping.
              Remember safety first!!

              6

              0

            • Work at night Wiggles. Be careful.

A stirred up wasp nest is no joke. Even bee handling suits are not fully effective. We often worked without them. Lack of precautions was a sign of experience, as were countless stings.

              5

              0

        • Maybe ask the bee keepers, it is in their interests to get rid of the nest too. They might be licensed.

          6

          0

    • Fly spray works as does turps sprayed from a spraybottle. For nests high up, a sponge soaked in turps on a long pole works. Just squash the nest with the soaked sponge. Wasps die virtually instantly on contact with turps and its safer than petrol. Don’t use a shotgun as one of my more crazy friends once did…..

      9

      0

    • I find a shotgun works pretty well. Just wait till they’re all home and let rip. Don’t use this method if the nest is under your eves.

      8

      0

    • Maggy….An effective trap is to staple a bit of bacon on a board and put board over a container of water, bacon side down and an inch above the water line..When the feeding wasp takes off, it flies downward into the water and drowns…this video gives you the idea..https://youtu.be/ng-ylBN43PA?t=35

(My grandfather had a novel way of locating wasp nests using a tracking device,,…He would catch a wasp with a drinking glass against the window pane, slide down a bit of paper between the pane and the glass and put the glass with the wasp in the fridge to slow it down…He would then get a bit of red wool, make a loop knot at one end and put the noose over the wasps head…when the wasp recovered from the fridge treatment, it was a a case of following the red wool back to the nest…)

      8

      0

      • I’ve got a couple of those bought wasp traps (got one for Xmas from eldest daughter a few years back)… they work OK…..but it’s the nest that needs dealing to.

        5

        0

    • Wasp bait, powder, at the entrance of the nest gets tracked into the nest as wasps/go and return.
Does kill off the nest, below ground, from experience

      7

      0

      • Yes Fuzzy. Finally some sound advice. A wee pile of powder in the entrance is all that’s required.

        3

        0

    • Ripcord from Mitre 10, etc will do the trick. Spray it around the nest and it lasts for ages As they land on it as they go in and out of the nest.

For paper wasps a quick squirt of oven spray over the nest works a treat and it dissolves the nest.

The Catholic Church here in New Zealand says there is no need to cancel Mass, despite warnings from health officials against attending large gatherings of people.

A man who went to a service at a south Auckland church a week ago later tested positive for COVID-19. The man, in his 60s, had recently returned from a trip to the United States and did not show symptoms when he went to St Mary’s in Papakura last Sunday morning.

What sort of society have we become, where the police have confiscated tens of thousands of guns from law abiding sports shooters…. and yet they allow armed criminals to take their own vehicles off them!

Oh yes…. New Zealand is a much safer society now that we have a wellbeing caring huggy government. I’m so glad we have such a wonderfully efficient police force to keep us safe from criminals.

  18. Really puzzled by Hugzilla’s repeated comments on ‘strictest border controls in the world’in the context of Cov-19.
Silly really. North Korea, or even Chinese internal controls on population movement are stricter.
What she announced was No Cruise Ships, and all international visitors are to self isolate for 2 weeks ( aside from Pacific travelers).

So that is not border control at all. They can come, but they probably won’t want to.

Intrigued about the idea of essentially giving ‘home detention” to all visitors.
You have to commit grievous bodily harm on someone in NZ to get home detention normally.

and what is the enforcement? what is the penalty for a breach?
I dont believe there will be one.

Yes, Princess Cidy said they will be stepping up with ‘authorities çhecks on compliance'(?)

Assuming we have the resources to do this (when burglaries arent attended by police) I am amazed no journalist asks:
“Excuse me, your highness, but what is the penalty for failure to self isolate? Under what legal basis is this being enforced, assuming it even is? How are we resourced to make any checks?”
Suddenly, the strict controls look like children playing at being adults.

    Total rubbish.
In China, I hear they shot a few people fleeing zones, and certainly saw footage of police dragging and beating people simply for not wearing a face mask.
In Taiwan, the government puts an App on your phone and there have been cases of new arrivals pinged for being out of their homes (similar to GPS bracelet). Since they were too dumb to leave the phone behind a couple have been given fines as high as the equivalent of $50,000NZ.
So what is NZ doing around enforcement?

  19. White police official sues for discrimination as he’s paid less than black woman

Matt Parr, one of the five HM Inspectors of Constabulary who oversee the UK’s police forces, says his pay packet is lower than a black female inspector who does the same job as him. He is arguing that the discrepancy between his wage and the £185,000 salary of Wendy Williams – the last inspector appointed before him – is due to gender and race.

Joe Biden : Why doesn’t someone stop him?

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aA-GoeFGyIc
‘Biden’s cognitive issues can no longer be ignored’

Clearly the elderly presidential candidate who would be 79 if he got sworn in as president of the US in January 2021 is confused, unable to remember his message and prone to verbal outbursts and threatening behaviour to those voters who challenge him. It is clearly not his fault but medically significant. Biden would not be capable of running the United States of America. It is Elder Abuse using the confused geriatric to front as the Democratic presidential candidate.

Humans are living longer so there is the potential for more and more very mature politicians to stay working in our parliament into their sunset years. NZ has one member who has no intention of retiring. Those affected by cognitive decline are obvious to everyone but themselves. The individual in decline is the last to acknowledge there is a medical problem with their memory, decision making, changes in temperament, etc.

Is it time NZ introduced a mandatory cognitive test for those showing symptoms to make certain our elected officials are not suffering from cognitive decline and are medically capable to make responsible decisions? Do Kiwis continue to be polite and look the other way when there is clearly a problem? We can’t do anything about those who have grown up with limited IQ making it through the election process but surely society is much more aware that unfortunately not all of us get through life retaining a healthy brain. Is it time we faced this hazard head on for the good of the electorate.

Word on the street is Biden is tagged for President and his VP will be Obama.
Perfectly legal under the 25th amendment.
Biden will be forced to step down and Obama can lawfully step up to the plate.
        Unfortunately for the Dems….They can’t beat Trump……ever.

Man arrested over ‘inappropriate’ comments made outside Wellington mosque

A man has been arrested after allegedly making “inappropriate” comments outside a Wellington mosque this morning.
    https://www.tvnz.co.nz/one-news/new-zealand/man-arrested-over-inappropriate-comments-made-outside-wellington-mosque

Police were present when a passerby made comments which were considered “inappropriate in the context of the day” outside Kilbirnie Mosque, a police spokesperson told 1 NEWS. The comments upset others present, including a number of children, they said.

When officers requested the man and several others with him leave the scene, he became aggressive, the spokesperson said.

    • The police just can not allow free speech, or even a person in a “special protected” area.
Just what is “aggressive” not moving on?

The police say to arrest for his protection, so as to move him on, but they sort of learn not to make charges, though they dance on the head of the pin talking very lawyerly.

Avi has the full measure of the laws, and what the police can do, so after this I am awaiting how his case will go.

Now he has wandered through the Wtn airport; caught a taxi (?) checked into a hotel; gone out for a meal and then gets a phone call he has COVID while at an eatery.

New Zealand’s number of coronavirus cases rises to eight

The total number of Covid-19 coronavirus cases in New Zealand now sits at eight, with two new cases confirmed by the Ministry of Health today.
      https://www.tvnz.co.nz/one-news/new-zealand/new-zealands-number-coronavirus-cases-rises-eight?auto=6141688365001

The other confirmed case today is a 30-year-old woman from Denmark. She arrived in Auckland via Dohar on flight QR920 on Tuesday March 10. She then flew to Christchurch yesterday on Jetstar flight JQ225 before travelling to Queenstown in a private vehicle.

New Zealand’s mandatory coronavirus self-isolation measures to now kick in at 1am Monday

The woman was hospitalised in Queenstown after feeling unwell once arriving in the town.

    • If Vance is “worried about it” then it probably get traction.
Vance should also check her historical facts —the Matangi factory may have at one point been party of the Glaxo operations but they started their business in Bunnythorpe outside Fielding in the Manawatu –infant milk formula / products was one of the first products. (The business origins of it’s founder were in Wellington)

” The ‘Glaxo’ in the company name has its origins in Wellington, where local entrepreneur Joseph Nathan established a trading company (Joseph Nathan and Co) in 1873. This company was a forerunner to the Glaxo’s milk powder drying operation at Bunnythorpe, Manawatu. “

      7

    • Just to add to Vance’s lack of fact checking –there is no way the factory in the picture closed down in 1987. But the look of it , it would likely be 1957 or earlier.

  28. Close the schools NOW

“There have been a number of studies that have looked at reactive closures. These analyses, including a paper in Nature in 2006 using math models [of an influenza pandemic], typically find that such reactive school closures for a moderately transmissible pathogen reduces the cumulative infection rate by about 25% and delay the peak of the epidemic [in that region] by about 2 weeks. When you postpone the peak, you also typically flatten the epidemic and space out your cases. This has value. It means that the incidence on any given day is lower, so we don’t overburden our health care system” from

  31. I have found the true origins of the virus.
It also happens to be the cure.

There is a Saint Corona, And she is the Patron Saint against plague and epidemics.

Saint Corona was only fifteen when she professed her Christian Faith during the persecution of the Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius around 165.

Corona was arrested and tied by her feet to the tops of two palm trees which were bent to the ground. When the palms were let loose she was torn apart. According to the Roman Martyrology, this happened in Syria.

Saint Corona is especially venerated in Austria and Bavaria as the Patron Saint against epidemics.

  32. Looks like Ardern’s measures are window dressing to a large extent at this stage.

    https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=12316804

As a comparison, I read an article about how Chris Waller, the Kiwi born champion horse trainer in Australia said he was taking the issue serioulys and had obtained some of the thermal temperature measuring devices ( like the ones shown in the media where the instrument is placed on the forehead) and checked all his staff yesterday. He said he would not do it every day (yet !!) but needed to get a base measure for each staff member. Why can’t NZ get several hundred of these and at least check those enetering at the airports ?

    4

    0

    • The measuring of temperature also has to consider whether the person has taken paracetamol, or ibuprofen,
Both can lower the temperatures, and I know by experience it was an amazing drop when I had an infection and prescribed by the doctors for an ambulance trip.

The other point that has now arisen is in “cooling” the fever may be enhancing the death rate for influenza,

strong evidence the high temperature that can be caused by influenza helps the body to control the virus. ….
….. “The limited evidence that does exist [from animal studies] suggests that the administration of antipyretics may have the potential to increase the severity of influenza illness and the risk of mortality.” ……

      6

      0

      • But virtue signalling measures from Ardern do ?
No one is saying it is a definitive measure but a high temperature will tell you SOMETHING is possibly wrong and extra tests are needed. It helps screen out well people and reduce the testing needed.
Compare it to PSA test for prostrate cancer –we know there can be false positives but they are worth it as a quick measure to ensure guys go onto the next test and get the cancer detected early.
