  1. Go to level 4 NOW. Thousands of medical professionals have signed a petition asking the govt to go to level 4. This will cause mass disruption, but we’re going to get to that stage anyway. The sooner we lock down, the shorter the disruption will be and the less people will die.

    • SLG is too busy trying to look kind – and succeeding in looking stupid.

And where are our health officials in all this?
We pay big bucks to have people plan for events such as this, yet how long did it take for the crayons to come out and we got this four level scenario sketched up on the back of Cindy’s power bill, and insufficient supplies of essential ppe.

These overpaid numpties have had (how many?) practise runs at this with various flu outbreaks in the last decade or so and are still caught with their pants around their ankles.
I bet there’s been plenty of flying around the country to meetings that start with hongi and karakia and have plenty of breaks with gourmet sausage rolls while we get stuck with the Dad’s Army version of a preparedness plan.

Now we’re waiting until we have community transmission to start managing community spread.
      How fucking daft is that?

        • Yeah – I watched yesterday and found her incredibly patronising.

Plus I feel embarrassed for our nation watching her stupid bobblehead motions. For a supposed communications professional she sure is unprofessional at communicating.

I remain convinced that the bobblehead motion is her “liar’s tell”.

      • Not just daft, criminal. We’ve had the benefit of seeing what’s happened in Italy and South Korea. The different approaches and the different outcomes. It’s a no-brainer.
Cindy: “But Australia haven’t done it yet”. That’s right Cindy, and you’re always telling them how to run their country, so put on your big girl’s pants, and if you ever get one thing right, make it this.

To be fair to him Russia has one of the smallest debts in the entire world so he’s gotta be doing something right I guess.

    • Not appearing.
Needs a wee lie in because she’s had to work overtime Friday, Saturday, Sunday.

And she doesn’t want to talk to Mike because she and the Rev still haven’t managed to count up the testing kits.
How many testing kits do we have?
      Um, … ah, … Er, …

      16

        • It seem that we can test many, but the bottle neck is the procedural time to allow the time of “culture growth reaction” and the machines to aid the flow through, and the limited number of staff able to run the labs. to get the results.

      • And when will New Zealand start trials with these highly promising drugs? Our infection level is so low at present (I know we are not testing most possible cases but even so) we could really get a grip on this if the Government would act fast. Do they even know about this though? I have so little confidence in the COL and our Dear Comrade leader it makes me weep!

        HYDROXYCHLOROQUINE and AZITHROMYCIN
A specific combination of existing drugs has shown it is capable of wiping out the #coronavirus in a study conducted in France. NY will start clinical drug trials on Tuesday for two newly approved drugs by the FDA including Chloroquine, which is used to treat malaria.

New York State will start trial testing antiviral medicines on Tuesday in an ongoing effort to stem the coronavirus pandemic statewide, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo announced on Sunday.

      • It’s just a little bit of censorship, completely normal for the 1984 world that was ushered in after 15 March last year.

Same with SLG not wanting to talk to the most listened to radio host – wouldn’t want the truth getting out now would we?

Maybe SLG thinks 1984 is a user manual and not a work of fiction?

        9

        0

        • Orwell was a raving leftie who only ended up hating communism after the communists turned on the anarchists in the Spanish Civil War where he was fighting as an agent provocateur against the Franco regime. It most definitely was a user manual for dummies

  3. I have the radio on to keep abreast of Wu-flu announcements, but can’t tell you how annoyed I am to hear Neva Itimanu tell me New Zealanders aren’t taking the outbreak seriously enough.
Events are cancelled and supermarket stocks are totally liquidated.
I am being urged to work from home, but I still have to send the kid to school.
Who is it that isn’t taking the situation seriously?
Looks like the PTPM and her overpaid bureaucrats.

  4. I admit despising Ardern and her actions on this crisis have bolstered my feelings about her, this is a person that cannot make a decision herself, she waits for information from her agencies then calls a presser to announce ” her world leading toughest conditions ” then if it goes bad her response is that she was only taking best advice from specialists, she’s a decisions coward, there’s always got to be someone else to slip the blame to, ALWAYS.

    17

    0

    • She’s not a leader. Never was. Got elevated to win votes because Angry is such an unlikable bellend.

      23

      0

    • With respect RT, in a matter such as this advice from the agencies will be critical to good decision-making, and the PTPM certainly should be taking advice. Last thing we need here is another Captain’s Call cock-up.
Thing is those who are paid to be ready to run with this have been snoozing at the wheel for decades.
Where’s the plan? Where are the resources?
Those nasty quasi government organisations that cater to weather or geo events are always prepared with warehouses full of stuff to be shipped to where its needed – and they still have time to fiddle the victims.
Our own disaster preparedness organisations have been doing nothing but holding highly paid talkfests and now they are MIA.
Pains me to say it, but we’ve seen more instant action from Grant Robertson with his assistance package than from dopey David Clark and the Ministry of Health.
(And make no mistake the incompetence at MoH stretches back further than the present government, and the one before that)

      8

    • This has always been her problem – the infestation of working groups was just the first sign. She has no idea, no plan, no strategy, no judgment – she can only do what others tell her to do. She has been weighed and she has been found wanting.

The real problem is the Dr Silly Name from the MoH. The Health Ministry screwed up – they did none of the prudent provisioning at the onset of the Wuhan outbreak in China that would have placed us well to deal with the virus (no bulk buying of testing kits, no pre-purchasing of ventilators, no early ‘flu inoculations, etc) they used the same imbecile approach to dealing with Chinese virus as they did with the Measles outbreak – ie wait until people are dying then look embarrassed.

On Dr Silly Name’s watch we’ve had the “wipe out children in Samoa” measles outbreak and the “If I keep saying “no community transmission” maybe they won’t see how clueless I am” disaster. I know he’s got some serious competition – but surely he must be up for this years’ Gabriel Mahklouf Fucking Useless CE award!

Cindy has no idea what to do and (as always) she’s waiting to be told – unfortunately in this case – she’s being told what to do by the one person on the planet who is more clueless than she is.

OF COURSE THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE OF COMMUNITY INFECTION! You weren’t testing – so how could there be any evidence of community infection! And now that you’ve started testing – what a surprise! There IS EVIDENCE of community infection.

It’s like something from Yes Prime Minister.

      • Definitely better than the current mob.

Mike Bush, ex police commissioner is now the front voice “leading all of govt response to Covid-19”. They have set up a command centre. He can’t or won’t answer how many test kits are in the country. Anyone feel safer having that creep in charge? Too much pressure for socialist Cindy keeping up the level of work the Covid-19 has caused her. She has disappeared this morning, nowhere to be seen or heard.

        • I almost feel sorry for Mike Bush, almost but not quite. Imagine being picked by the cowardly, lying piece of shit to be the front man and scapegoat for this government clusterfuck. We are going to be punished for Jacinda Ardern’s incompetence by her regime becoming entrenched at gunpoint. For our safety and the safety of our community. Or some such shit.

“The number of new cases coming from offshore means community transmission will get established without absolute precaution.”

New Zealand is at level on the official alert system – a full lockdown would mean the country would need to be moved up to level four.

The armed forces will eventually take control. Radio jock says they are going to be deployed at various places as crowd control measures.
This is the first real test of the strength of our Nation since the war, because it includes the world as a whole. All of us.
Not an earthquake, not an eruption and not even a mass shooting somewhere, which we deemed as significant, could match the horrors of war though.

“You don’t know how good you’ve got it!”
“You don’t know how bloody lucky you are kid”.

Are expressions my parents would use often at the dinner table when we were young-in’s and refused to eat the tripe and onions or the broad beans or slightly stale bread or have to drink the marginally sour milk.

My parents who witnessed real suffering, (father especially) must have shook their heads in disappointment with our petty selfish outbursts, on so many occasions, well, I’m not surprised they both had neck problems.

My point here is… we’ll get through this.
We need to be strong in the face of this threat and show the younger people , our children and theirs, that we are cool, calm individuals on the outside, even if we are packing ourselves on the inside.

Cometh the hour, cometh man, means us. There is no avoiding this. This is the crisis of our generation to deal with.

For the sake of yourselves and your families remain strong.
This moment in time has the potential to make or break us.
    Trust your instincts…..you’ll be fine.

  14. Worrying,,,,,So my old mum is booked in for her annual flu shot at 11am today but oh dear they ring us to tell us they don’t have any and aren’t expecting new stock until next week.
FFS what is going on ? surely this is a central government F—K up they can’t organise a simple thing like flu shots yet Ardern is bringing in 4 stages of panic for the populace to get all fearful about.
We truly are a flock of sheep down here in the south pacific and our shepherds are missing in action, this is a disgraceful running of our health system, next thing will be because of the world epidemic the shots will not be available at all and old folk will die.
All Arderns bullshit speeches mean nothing if they cant even get a simple thing like flu shots sorted, this is why they are saying ” only people most at risk come in for shots” they know there’s a F—K up but can’t say it in case it causes another run on shit house paper etc.
But never fear those 120 bludgers down in that big house will get their shots no matter what age or level of health they are in ,,,C—-Ts every last one of them.

COVID-19 Shatters The Facade Of European ‘Union’

The European entity which proclaims solidarity and supranational status is reverting to a collection of nation states, each desperately fighting for their own survival amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

  22. How many of the NZ tested positive cases are in hospital ? If there are some how many are in ICU ?

    3

    0

    • Probably none. As I understand it unless the virus overwhelms the patient’s respiratory system there’s not much can be done in hospital that can’t be done at home.

An oversimplification maybe but people aren’t dying from the virus but the pneumonia it can cause.

      6

      0

      • That is my implied point nasska, but we have all these doctors screaming for more restrictions. The Govt. cannot even run the current restrictions properly.
Every winter we always have at least one two requests for people not to clog up A&E and the hospital system with mild cold/flu symptoms but here we are with no one in hospital due to the virus.
Once again , lets keep it all in perspective.

        3

        0

        • Yes & no. Point is that we haven’t had the virus in NZ for long & up until now most of the cases have been returning travellers who are probably younger than the age group that really gets clobbered by this strain. Wait until the rest homes are infected.

The other day I included as part of a comment my outlook & it hasn’t changed. ie.

“Population of NZ (est Mar 20) ……4,822,000

Half of population will contact Covid-19

Of that 2,400,000, 480,000 (20%) will be serious

5.7% of serious cases will result in death.”

Our hospitals will be fill to overflowing by the time a fraction of the serious cases need their treatment. The restrictions the doctors are advocating may buy us time.

Non-essential businesses must close – pools, bars, cafes, restaurants, playgrounds
In 48 hours all businesses which provide takeaway services must close their doors
Schools will be closed from tomorrow except to the children of essential services such as doctors, police, ambo drivers. This will give them time to plan
Schools will close entirely from midnight Wednesday
People must work from home so contact with others is limited
Public transport will begin to transition over the next 48 hours. It will remain for essential workers and transporting freight

“I know people will want to act as enforcers and I understand people are afraid and they are anxious, but we will play the role of enforcer,” she told the nation.

  28. Coronavirus: Resident of Hamilton rest home tests positive for Covid-19
    https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/health/coronavirus/120490932/coronavirus-resident-of-hamilton-rest-home-tests-positive-for-covid19

The resident had his daughter visiting from Australia around March 10, Fick said.

She returned home to Australia and had to undergo a test before returning to work as a nurse, he said.

The rest home immediately stood down 27 staff that had been in contact with the resident and they were now in self-isolation.

      • We spend millions on catering to them, perhaps they’ll have to give up alcohol and start bathing. On the bright side, there are plenty of classrooms sitting vacant due to no overseas students, great for temporary accommodation and hospital wards.

Supermarkets are essential services and will be open on Wednesday and every other day during the lockdown period. Petrol stations will remain open as well. Bet you’d have the place to yourself Wednesday.

              “Clearing the Decks”

Wards empty, spruced up, then room to roll the urgent cases in.

Should have also said “stand by” but could be considered these days a bit tedious, if action does not happen for a while.

Rest up, re charge, as if this does start to roll, then it may be too many long hours, & long weeks.

Thanks to the nurses & staff for the work in the past, and thanks for the future, and may it not be too wearisome.

        • Yes! Must put workers at risk with the public running around like headless chickens. Stay safe everyone.
Also my heart goes out to those who have been made redundant as they lose their jobs with their sector badly affected, or won’t be able to work for the next month. I take it retail is shut as non-essential. That’s a huge number of people affected.

We slightly older people have been through bad recessions before and seen the carnage or lived it. We can probably cope better than those who have so far swanned though life unscathed. Remember, there is always someone worse off than yourself!!

When will the penny drop that if they are really serious about all these restrictions then they can really only lift them , even partially, when all other countries get things “under control”, other wise we are back to where we are today. That will take longer than one month. How long will it take before the population becomes really pissed off?
The criteria I heard earlier for going back down to other levels, only applied to what is happening in NZ.

Will they then close off the rest the aisles?

In the name of Ardern in not having so many workers and to have more space around?

  43. Lets us think about this for a second. Will fruit picking stop ? Will the grape harvest still go ahead ? Will farmers keep milking ? Will Fonterra factories keep working ? Will all the truckies that support these industries and the supermarkets keep driving ? Will the wharfies keeping loading and unloading ships?

Who are the essential people in our economy ? It isn’t the media and the Beehive crowd. Maybe the chardonnay socialists will get a wake up call.

If Bush tries to stop those people he will have more than them, kicking his arse.

    9

      • Chardonnay grapes provide an essential lubricant for the chattering classes, both in Auckland and in Wellington, I suspect.

        8

        0

    • Many good questions!
Although it is said that NZ is fortunate, that it will have the food, being agrarian, but will they stuff this up too.

Can farmers send their stock to the saleyards? particulary as many want to destock before winter, and already the strain of the drought & shortage of grass. and the freezing works delaying & behind in the stock kill.

Will feed deliveries for cattle, hay, silage to farms be allowed?
Can harvesting of grains be allowed, with all the attendant trucks, tractors, mechanics etc… needed.

Can Fertilizer be delivered? to the depots? then picked up by spreading trucks.
Again the timing window is important as after this rain, would be a good response before winter.
Spreading fertilizer in the winter has far fewer gains for grass growth, and then what will sheep cows eat when no grass.
      shoot

If not;- will the police return the semi automatic guns so that stock can be humanely put down out of of their starving misery, this coming winter.

As Ardern says, time is of the essence, so make the decision in this “small window of time”.
      ——–
Another day of reasonable warm showers, and noted a number of farmers smiling about that this afternoon.
Still it will be about 2 weeks for the new grass to be nutritious for a feed, and even that is a tad too early. A good mild showery April, will set things up for winter.

    • My nieces husband, a long haul trucker is heading home for the next month. He doesn’t cart food though.

      7

      0

      • I will not be surprized that some of these truck drivers will be recycled into other essential jobs.
Like a farmer may need water tanks, water pipes , water troughs, fixtures, etc.. pumps pump repairs etc.. Are the livestock to go with out water?

The only fly in the ointment is the police, and what they deem essential.
        With their past record? 🙁

Yet at the same time, in these questions,
I do want what we go through, in this lock-down to shut down the virus.
To buy time for medicines that may work, and vaccines, but that may take quite a while.

It will be the rest of the world, and what they may wish for, and prepared to pay for our exports.

        7

        0

        • ……”some of these truck drivers will be recycled into other essential jobs.”……

Reminds me of trying to feed & house a family back in the days of the commo Northern Drivers Union & some lowlife POS pom yelling “all out bros” at a union stopwork.

Next day, every time, within three phone calls I had casual fencing work with a sympathetic cockie & the picket line carried on without me.

    • The key words are “essential services”. IOW the jobs & people who actually do something & contribute to the ability of NZ Inc to pay the bills. The churn merchants, regulators & ticket clippers who bludge most of the nation’s resources are noticeably absent.

I expect productivity to rise 50%.

  44. Why not use the time in lockdown to learn to cook? There are plenty of easy step recipes on the cooking programmes – food channels or Utube. Everyone should be able to do the basics for such time as we are heading into.

I’m going to try this pan pizza recipe tomorrow.

Takeaway shutdown: Will food delivery services be operating during the level 4 alert?
    https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/lifestyle/2020/03/takeaway-shutdown-will-food-delivery-services-be-operating-during-the-level-4-alert.html.

As part of that address, Ardern iterated that “takeaway services must move to close their operations”.

That was bad news to many facing four long weeks at home, and raised the question if food box services like My Food Bag, and takeaway delivery services would be operating.

According to New Zealand’s Restaurant Association, all hospitality businesses including bars, restaurants and cafes must close their takeaway operations.

    7

    0

    • Takeaways closed, so some consequences & the leadership obviously had no idea.
No surprise people had to get some food in, particularly the ones who always ate out, or always picked out a good takeaway.

There was nothing in the fridge, nothing in the pantry cupboard,
      ————–
Another version of people were the John Campbell specials, again showing no food in fridge, or shelf. Ardern must have seen that TV news.
A hardship payment from WINZ and so wonder into a grocery shop.

Wondering now is LOTTO an essential? tobacco?
      —————–
The next rush will be for the rat & mice poison, probably belatedly after spotting the poo & urine damage. 🙁
Right now is the time that they seek a warmer place & in the dry.
Cats & Dogs will not really do the job.

Toilet paper stocks makes great nests.
Rice, Pasta, Noodles, Flour, Cereals, will help those rats to grow nice and big.
      ————
Online buying of food from supermarket will still be couriered/delivered if you wish, but takeaway order? hmmm

No surprise there seems to be panic buying.

          • ……”in a crisis some of us will always eat well”……

There’s an old Wairarapararian saying that if you wish to eat well then check her mother’s cooking. Mrs Nasska’s mother shaped up. 🙂

            • Those mothers knew that to get the daughter of their hands and the ability to pick & choose the best, was;-
“the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach.”

Like wise a good cook tastes the cooking, and so just a bit of condition to round the curves, seems to alleviate the nagging gene. 🙂

              0

              • The prospective Mrs Nasska was everything a man could wish for. A bubbly, slim, little pocket brunette with big eyes that could have melted icebergs. She was bedroom gymnast, a chauffeur for her drunken boyfriend’s car & made a man feel less simple by being seen with him.

She was also four months fucking pregnant. 🙂

I even appreciate how hard the Bangladeshi, Chinese factory worker even if quality may still be lacking.

As you noted, the high ‘schooler’, into university to make a talkative, and pen pusher, tick boxes, part in so many parts of our lives, have no real understanding, of the hands on, raise a sweat, day after day, and how to relish that beer at day’s end.

        • Somehow I ended up with a male who didn’t know how to boil an egg..

Ok, I was 25 & desperate, but… being brought up by a widowed father and with 3 large brothers, I just assumed all men cooked (and my 2 living brothers are damn good cooks…. from fairy sponges cakes to a hangi for 50+).
Over the 40+ years of our co-existence we have churned out 2 kids who are good cooks, but hubby has only managed to master scones, pikelets , and his coffee machine.
He probably thinks he’s scored a bargain…having damn good tucker prepared practically every day of his life…
but I’ve made him pay…. It’s not often I wash dishes…and boy can I use every pot and pan and roasting dish in the kitchen when I’m in fine form.

          • More than fair enough.
Usually I get any available other to peel, slice & dice when I cook, plus, after meal, they sort it out to get the washing up done..

Why, after a meal, is it easier to wash the dishes at some one else’s place and even wipe down benches & tables?

  45. And what we on YSB have been saying for weeks comes true…

Ministry of Health accused of major blunder after ‘low-risk’ student tests positive for COVID-19
    https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/new-zealand/2020/03/ministry-of-health-accused-of-bungling-covid-19-response-putting-hundreds-in-danger-after-high-school-student-tests-positive.html

“The teenager who had contact with a positive case, was told by the Ministry his risk of getting the virus was low, and he didn’t need to self-isolate.

He was worried and got a test anyway – and he was positive. But not before he’d interacted with friends assuming he didn’t have COVID-19”

    • Thanks wg. 🙂
It is good to know, as a lot of school kids will be back at home, boarding school kids returning home.
This can spread to the furthermost reaches.

The distancing is right in part,
We can be all be hygienic, but it is difficult.
But we touch things, pedestrian buttons? keypads? A hand rail? a door handle?

Just picking something up like I did today that some one else was giving me.
Sure I have a set up with some handwash and a water container which I did before & after and paper towel dry.

But the “gap” of opening the car door, before re-washing, then picking up the paper roll, qll can be a “gap”

The yawning gap the Ministry of Health, with supposed high paying studied tick boxing formulas.
Not even an apology, not even we got it wrong, and should have thought this through.

I figure for the most part they are right, but I have to figure their flaws, on the principle that I did figure they had lost the plot, in not acknowledging how contagious it was, as being found in overseas, and even noticing how travellers were picking it up.

Naahhh they are just tick boxers that are collecting pay, via a pay grade, way above their real ability & skill.

    https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/new-zealand/2020/03/coronavirus-kiwi-covid-19-patient-s-warning-for-healthy-people.html

Crossan told The Project that the virus is “not just the flu”.

“I’m a healthy individual, so I think it can get anyone, and I was pretty sick there for a while.

“If a healthy person can get that sick, I would hate to think what people who have compromised immune systems could get like.”

She described the past week of having the virus as “pretty horrific”.
