Coronavirus: Malaysian government sorry for telling women to speak with cat voice during lockdown
    https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/world/2020/04/coronavirus-malaysian-government-sorry-for-telling-women-to-speak-with-cat-voice-during-lockdown.html

One of the campaign posters depicted a man sitting on a sofa and asked women to refrain from being “sarcastic” if they needed help with household chores.

Avoid nagging your husband, another poster said, but use humour or imitate the infantile voice of Doraemon, a blue robot cat from Japan that is hugely popular across Asia.

The ministry also urged women to dress up and wear makeup while working from home.

    • Imagine if Jacinda had continued with her showpony event on the 15th of March and we could all sue her now! It’d be worth the lockdown just to watch her squirm.

Of course, if we did the only likely outcomes would be:

      * Labour Party judge throws the case out OR;
      * Visit from the police at night and a quiet disappearance AND;
      * You being vilified in the media for your actions

  3. Sweden’s Approach To Coronavirus: Do Nothing

And while the country has limited gatherings to 50 people as of Sunday, the government is largely leaving decisions over self-isolation and social distancing up to the citizens. BBC notes that almost half of Stockholm residents are working remotely, and that traffic is quieter than usual. Stockholm’s public transport company SL reports 50% fewer riders on subway and commuter trains last week.

    • Tarquin, absolutely,I’m wondering how many thousands of small business owners are saying “F- – -K this it’s not worth it” after being slapped by Ardern with another $1.30 an hour for the half dozen people who work for them?
This is the definition of economic sabotage to make business people pay more when their business is not really feasible in the current crisis ,,,NUTS .

As will input costs from suppliers who also face wage and on-cost rises.

    • A fiddle, very apt, It might work, as it did through centuries of time.
Being music, maybe not only seeing it, but a bit of a signature sound, even a ditty, chant?

She seems to post the “Neve” but I do not go with that, but that fiddle plus sound would at the same time she does squirrels, would be effective with out denigrating the “bubs”

One needs a symbol, but can we make it closer to home, and so it can raise its head every time she speaks?

  5. ‘Shovel ready’ with Economic Development Minister shovel-brain Twitford.

Government looks to fund large ‘shovel-ready’ infrastructure projects after COVID-19 lockdown
    https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/politics/2020/04/government-looks-to-fund-large-shovel-ready-infrastructure-projects-after-covid-19-lockdown.html

Economic Development Minister Phil Twyford said the Government will then decide which could be funded, contracted and ready to go as soon as the construction workforce can return to work, which at this stage is expected to be in about three weeks.

“We are focused on the health and wellbeing of New Zealanders first and foremost, and we need to get through the lockdown and out the other side of this pandemic,” Twyford said. “However, the Government is also planning ahead for when that time comes.”

  7. Simon Bridges calls on Government to quarantine, test everyone still arriving into NZ

Simon Bridges wants to see New Zealand follow the likes of Australia when it comes to quarantining and testing for coronavirus at the border.
    https://www.tvnz.co.nz/content/tvnz/onenews/story/2020/04/01/simon-bridges.html?auto=6146085545001

“To me, that is proper quarantining by the Government, testing each of those people coming in. It’s not big numbers coming in … We know they’re disproportionately the folk who have Covid-19, so I say quarantine and test them.

    12

    0

    • Either close the borders properly or do not bother.
Once closed, anyone arriving goes to an offshore island for 3 wk isolation at the likes of Somes Is, or Rotoroa Is in the Hauraki Gulf…and pays for it.
Somes was used for the Spanish Flu in 1918.

Winston calling back the 80,000 overseas people was another example of his trying to sink the country before he croaks.

      10

      0

    • Simon Bridges is right. Quarantine should have been in use from the outset instead of the loose “self isolation” for those coming in. Costs should be on the travellers as a component of travel. Not a charge on the general taxpayer.

      10

      0

      • Right Pete but Bridges is weeks too late. He may have said it earlier but he obviously has not learnt anything from the leftie protesters. You do not say something just once and expect to be listened to —you have to go on and on and on about it. It takes that long for it to sink in. To come out now again about will be a waste of oxygen —even if they do start it the Government will spin it to take credit.
Having said that they should do it but who is coming in –I thought we had closed borders ?

    • Yup – like the inexperienced rube that he is. Bridges is being taken for a ride.

Imagine 2 months down the track when he tries to criticise Cindy’s deplorable performance. Cindy has the perfect answer “But you were the Chairman of the committee that held the government to account”.

All that Labour did is bring Bridges into the tent – he is now equally to blame for everything that goes down.

We have no opposition. If we have no opposition then we aren’t living in a democracy. We’re living in effectively a one-party dictatorship.

        2

      • The commentary I saw overwhelmingly slammed Bridges for criticising the farcical/so-called COv-19 response budget, or alternatively the media gives him almost no air time at all.
It is all about pics of the PriNZcess in MSM articles, or toothy smiles on the TV.

Even yesterday, when the committee of cross-party MPs was shown on TV3, with Simon as chair, they only showed a clip of Bridges pointing out to David Seymour that he was on mute (very very common in audio meetings, see this almost daily).
Ýet that was the key take-out for our national news.

At least they did run with the story of Prof Skegg advising that committee that we need quarantine on the border and to really ramp up testing. Both of which are common sense, and the government only tweaking parameters for testing yesterday.
On testing and border controls : the government is blowing smoke up our arses with ‘toughest border controls in the world’ and ‘testing to the gold standard level’.
The media doesn’t even blink at these patent lies from Hugzilla.
        They are accepted without question.

        https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=12321119
        {Prof. Skegg};
“Every time the public are told only 2 per cent of the cases appear to involve community spread – it’s meaningless.
“You only get tested if you come from overseas or if there are epidemiological reasons to suspect the person might be infected.”
        &
“Every effort must be made to prevent spread from New Zealanders returning from overseas. As each day goes by, the probability of those people carrying the virus increases.”
He noted that Australia was putting all people arriving from overseas into quarantine, and he thought New Zealand should do the same.
But that quarantine had to be enforced and checked, as it is in Singapore by requiring those in quarantine to send text messages multiple times a day.
“I just don’t think we have that level of checking going on.”

  10. Yesterday, I suspected my left foot had the virus.

In my efforts to maintain social distancing and to comply with current MoH guidelines and to maintain mobility, I watched a heap of NZ ballet tutorials, all the while thinking about how I can maintain the sensitive needs of others during this lockdown period.
The benefits have been out of this world.

I can get to the shops and back in half the time, jump fences, hedges, wheelie bins, children and small cars in a single bound,

Anyway, long story short….once the nice policeman eventually dropped me off home, he said he was only going to prosecute me for me trespassing, intentional reckless endangerment, willful damage and littering, which was nice… I suppose.

Ps: My foot tested negative. So..all’s well, that ends well.👍

  11. Will “working from home” become a normal practice, now that so many people have been forced to try it?
Think of the advantages in Auckland.
    – Time saved through a reduction in commuting.
    – Less traffic congestion.
    – Reduced vehicle emissions.
    – Companies don’t need so much office space.
    – A reduction in client hand-holding and time-wasting meetings
    – All communications can be recorded, so greater clarity of who said what to whom and when

What other advantages to the normalization of working from home can you think of?

Dislaimer: As a translator, I have been working from home since the early 90s, so I am totally biased.

  12. I just read on the Jo Nova blog that Australia had tested 230,000 people (about 1% of the population). Has NZ tested 50,000 (ie 1%)?
    I very much doubt it.
That is why I keep saying just presenting the number of positives is meaningless. If you presented the current Aussie figure of 4600 positive as a percentage of those tested -ie 4600/230,000 = 2 % .
The current positive test number for NZ =650. To have the same percentage as Aussie (2 %) then we would have to had tested 32,500 if we are to make an apples with apples comparison. I doubt we have tested 32,000 so that suggests to me we could have a higher rate of infection. I think both countries are only testing those that have travelled and/or are showing signs of infection.

  13. Tokyo records most new coronavirus cases in a day as pressure for lockdown builds

Tokyo recorded more than 70 new coronavirus infections on Tuesday for its highest tally in a single day, as pressure built on Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to order a lockdown with a minister saying Japan’s containment strategy was stretched to the limit.

Domestic cases topped 2,000, and public broadcaster NHK said 78 cases in the Japanese capital took its tally of infections past 500.

    https://www.thejakartapost.com/amp/news/2020/03/31/tokyo-records-most-new-coronavirus-cases-in-a-day-as-pressure-for-lockdown-builds.html?__twitter_impression=true

    • Of those 70 new coronavirus infections, a significant proportion are to people aged under 40 (all the students returning from their graduations vacations to Europe and subsequent parties back home in Japan). In addition, many of these new infections cannot be traced.
Prime Minister Abe has announced a drive to promote “online diagnosis” of the virus. (Could be simply an online questionnaire-type of thing.)
Tokyo is on the threshhold of an explosion in coronavirus infections and is working flat-out to defuse the situation. The next 2 weeks will be critical. The Japanese want to promote a “soft lockdown” in which the people self-manage themselves appropriately rather than resorting to an authoritarian approach as seen in this country (and the UK).
      Time will tell.
Thank goodness JapanMart in Newmarket is still open (for 5 shoppers at a time). I have stocked up on daikon radish pickles, rice crackers and dried wakame seaweed, so I am okay for the time being.

Five years ago, Italian state owned media Company, Rai – Radiotelevisione Italiana, exposed dark efforts by China on viruses. 16. Help…

    The mallard invasion has commenced.
Each year, we get between 2-17 mallards on our little garden pond and front lawns.
Hubby was entranced first year we got a resident pair and foolishly started feeding them….

So we are now firmly established on the Mallard air-b-n-b overwintering web(foot)site.

Duckduck was most put out when she spied the 2 aliens…and flew down from an upper lawn to give them both a good beak shove.

That’ll get rid of them I thought. Yay!
But horrors, Hubby emerged from his cave and proceeded to feed the mallards.

Duckduck gave up in disgust and waddled back upstairs…. the mallards had a feed and are now swanning around on the pond.

I can see months of shit-shovelling ahead.

    • Daughter has a smallish dog that goes crazy barking when ducks invade the lawn. The dog hasn’t bitten one yet, because they run/fly away very quickly.
Can you borrow a little barking dog for a day or two?

      • Had a heading dog once that managed to grab a parry drake. She grabbed it by one leg & took a bit of a beating from the other leg & wings but held on until I caught up.

But as Maggy lives the good life in suburbia I would suggest tethered rat traps or at a pinch a blind tunnel about one duck wide dug into the side of a pond & baited. It’s a little known fact that ducks haven’t mastered reverse gear & if they can’t extend their wings it’s like harvesting carrots.

        • We had a small fish pond at our last house, fed a couple of rescue ducklings and they hung around. Duck season comes and we had a hundred, shitting all over the place. The missus would take them over the road to contractors yard, that had a pond and run home. One day a tour bus stopped and followed her down to the pond. She couldn’t get home quick enough!

      • They are clever ducks over here..
We’ll be overloaded by May !…and they’ll stay until the end of Spring.

Our neighbour about 500m away at the bottom of the hill gets about 100 mallards and Campbell khakis camping out her place during duck-shooting season…. (we’ve attracted her overflow)… It’s zoned rural on the upperside of our road… and the road is choka with ducklings each spring.

    https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/new-zealand/2020/04/coronavirus-ministry-of-health-confirms-51-new-cases-of-covid-19.html

The Ministry of Health has confirmed New Zealand has 47 new confirmed cases and 14 probable of COVID-19, taking the country’s total to 708 cases.

There are no new deaths and 82 cases have now recovered in total. There are 14 cases in hospital, with two of those being in intensive care units. Those two patients are stable.

More than half of the new cases had strong links to overseas travel, 30 percent had links to confirmed cases within New Zealand, while community transmission is estimated at 1 percent.

  20. This government has totally lost the plot. There are still people returning to NZ. And they believe they will self isolate FFS if we are doing lock down this should NOT happen. I could put up with this restriction in our lives but definitely NOT if people are still travelling around the world to NZ. And what is the story with the extra 7 days? Does this mean we are now into 5 weeks of isolation? This is the biggest C**K up of all time. Listening to the spokesperson regarding testing etc etc, they are still working on it?????How long do these experts need to get this together. They should have been isolated on an island far far away. Food supplies should be dropped into areas by helicopter. People don’t mind things being shutdown but this makes a mockery of it all. I am still waiting to hear that this restrictive lifestyle will be over the minute this is over and people will be able to get on with our lives.

There have now been over 900 deaths in New York of 3600 coronavirus related deaths in the United States so far.

  26. Here we are a week later folks. Ardern has raped the economy like it wa an intern. The country is in lockdown with regular threats from police, while First Battalion ready reaction force is standing by to be deployed against us.

Still reckon the police and military are there to protect YOU? Or just maybe some of you understand they are there to protect and enable those in power.

  27. With Twitford in charge was there any doubt he’d be up for a return to the Ministry of Works. The biggest taxpayer funded employment work scheme this country has ever run.

Coronavirus: Govt won’t rule out a ‘Ministry of Works’ for post-virus NZ

However, they’ve also admitted the state’s role in construction will massively expand in a way unheard of in several generations. That could include turning Crown Infrastructure Partners into a new Ministry of Works-style government department.

Government ministers announced two measures aimed at shoring up confidence within the country’s construction sector on Wednesday morning. The first was the establishment of an Infrastructure Industry Reference Group to pick out “shovel-ready” projects exceeding $10 million that could be taken up within six months.

  28. I can tell you as fact, it’s not the virus they are suffering from. It’s withdrawals.
    These people are really sick.

Milo Yiannopolous posted this on another site:
    He hates Hollywood intensely.

EXCLUSIVE: Ritzy celebrity enclaves like Beverly Hills and Bel Air are hit hardest by coronavirus with number of cases higher than most other neighborhoods in LA county

And the figures show celebrity filled areas like Beverly Hills, Brentwood, West Hollywood, Santa Monica and the Hollywood Hills all have a high number of cases.

    • I read the article in disbelief.
“It’s a high trust environment’, says Mr Bloomfield defending the current status quo of some self-isolating of returning kiwis.”

Gosh! I hope someone has told the virus about this magical “high-trust environment.”

      //

This is going to provide the government with an excuse to continue the lockdown, don’t you know…

      • This was Bloomfield acting under instructions from Ardern’s office. I would bet my last dollar he did not make the decision.

        Here is my solution :
The Government goes out any buys two of the large Auckland hotels ( pays double the market rate if need be). Sets them up as quarantine sites. It buys 2-300,000 + of the test kits like the ones the Aussie got last week –they give a result in 15 minutes . ( President Trump has said today a US company is producing one like this now). Everyone who tests positive has to go into the hotel until they show a negative test . They also get the chloroquine + ? medication. Everyone coming off a plane gets tested and quarantined if necessary.
All the arrangements to be done by next Monday and everyone goes back to work on Monday. A lot cheaper option than 4-5 weeks of the economy in lock down.

The virus is in our community now and eventually we will all be exposed to it –we need to, so we build up immunity. So there is no way we will get rid of it and having the economy ruined is not worth it.

Now I will find a wall to bash my head against !!

    • Surely the right time to test someone who is intending to travel to New Zealand is BEFORE they board the bloody plane not when they have just spent many hours breathing the same recycled air as a whole plane load of other passengers. Deny boarding to anyone who tests positive whether resident, citizen or tourist. But then it’s probably too late in any case now so let’s just carry on, Cindy is such a great leader she’ll see us right mate.

    • About 3600 allowed to head home to self-isolateNZHERALD

As Jacinda Ardern said the current border restrictions, which came into effect just under a week ago, were working. Of course, there is 3600 potential carriers released into the environment, to go to the shops, pick at the fruit and decide what they want to eat, etc.

Why are we self-isolating again? Can’t we just go back to normal, given Ardern doesn’t really give a shit about quarantine and only about how she can gain more control for her sticky, filthy Communist fingers?

  29. Japanese Deputy Prime Minister and pro-Taiwan advocate Taro Aso had some harsh words for the World Health Organization and its compliance with Chinese Communist Party propaganda on Sunday.

Speaking to Japanese lawmakers, Taro Aso referenced a Change.org petition calling for the removal of WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

“Although the details are murky, the WHO’s previous Director General was a Chinese national, and at he time, there were complaints all around,” Taro Aso said.

“And now, at least, the petition has gathered three hundred thousand signatures, or rather, five hundred thousand signatures.”

Coronavirus: Protective gear being sent to New Zealand from China
    https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/new-zealand/2020/04/coronavirus-protective-gear-being-sent-to-new-zealand-from-china.html

A mission is underway to fill New Zealand’s stocks of protective gear, thanks to a private group which has given up waiting for the Government.

Several planes will carry the shipment coming from China. Masks, gowns and face-guards will be sent, and hand sanitiser and other PPE-like shoe covers are also on their way.

The seven cargo planes filled with supplies are due to land later this week.

Newshub has learned the shipment follows top-level Government talks involving business heavyweights Graeme Hart, Sir Stephen Tindall, Craig Heatley, Nick Mowbray and Sam Morgan.

  32. Philip Burden was Trade Minister in the Bolger government and is a former chair of the Asia New Zealand Foundation. He is the owner of Meadow Mushrooms.

And he has swallowed the Chinese coolaid by the tanker load.

The challenge for New Zealand is not whether we see ourselves in opposition to the US therefore, but rather the extent to which we continue to engage with China as it increasingly exercises its very real economic and strategic entitlement to involvement in the Asia Pacific region.

The high drama and reality of the coronavirus pandemic has simply accelerated its emerging global authority. I would hope New Zealand has the capacity and vision to handle this new reality dynamically and responsibly.

  35. Another major health failure. It’s not as if the suppliers didn’t know winter and the flu season would be on the way!

Doctors say patient safety at risk as flu vaccine supplier to New Zealand runs out of stock

But there’s a problem. Newshub has spoken to GPs around the country who say they’re either running out or have none left.

“The issue with the supply of flu vaccines in New Zealand at the moment is really frustrating and infuriating and actually, in my opinion, quite dangerous,” Lumsden GP Dr Matthew Stokes said.

He told Newshub he’s had to cancel hundreds of flu jab appointments.

    • Its the old saying of “could not organise a piss up in brewery”. We are just starting the flu jab “season” and they have run out. Incompetence !!! And we are meant to have faith in how they are handling the lock down etc.

      • The general public have been told to wait until mid-April before booking their appointment so the aged and vulnerable get their flu vaccines first. Now we find out the sick and aged won’t even get their jabs. Totally incompetent!!!

Coronavirus: Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern urges Kiwis in their 20s to take COVID-19 seriously
    https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/politics/2020/04/coronavirus-prime-minister-jacinda-ardern-urges-kiwis-in-their-20s-to-take-covid-19-seriously.html

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has unloaded on Kiwis in their 20s, warning that everyone must take COVID-19 seriously.

She pointed the finger during Wednesday’s press conference, saying those in the 20- to 29-year-old age range are the ones identified as having the virus in New Zealand.

“They may think therefore that it won’t affect them as much – that they’ll be mild-to-moderate,” she told reporters.

But the Prime Minister said that particular age range was “the vector for our transmission”.

  37. No electioneering during the Covid-19 crisis

Meanwhile, the Labour Party dictated the branding and colour scheme for the normally aqua / blue Ministry of Social Development / Work and Income support package claims. Those Labour parasites are insidious and when they say “don’t do something” you can bet they’re fucking well doing it themselves.

Jacinda Ardern is the biggest hypocrite and liar I’ve ever encountered.

I never understood how Mama Bear could say she hates somebody, but I’m starting to get to the point where I have a hatred of Jacinda Ardern. You should not pretend to be good, nice and kind when you’re such a deceptive, dishonest, duplicitous bitch. She is everything that is bad about humanity rolled into a smiling, bobble headed show-pony.

  38. Fujifilm Holdings announced Tuesday the start of a clinical trial for its flu-fighting drug Avigan to treat COVID-19, in which it will be administered to about 100 patients in Japanese hospitals to gauge safety and efficacy.

Some doctors in Japan are already using the medication to treat coronavirus patients for test purposes, but company-led clinical trials are a must to gain its approval for wide distribution.

Avigan showed promise as a coronavirus treatment in Chinese trials, though some previous studies found possible side effects, including fetal deaths or deformities.

Fujifilm is also preparing to increase production of Avigan, after Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe expressed support for using it as a coronavirus treatment.

The Japanese government has a strategic reserve of 2 million doses of Avigan, but this might not be enough for all coronavirus patients.

  39. Health Minister David Clark said the Government was “very actively” looking at those options while also weighing up human rights and privacy considerations.

But last week, Privacy Commissioner John Edwards told the Herald that health authorities already had the green light to track coronavirus-infected people’s movements via data collected by their mobile phone companies.

Asked if the Ministry of Health could approach a mobile phone company and ask it to hand over the movement data of someone infected with Covid-19, Edwards said this could be done under existing law.NZHERALD

Is this an April Fools joke? Or is the government really looking at tracking us through our mobile phones? Because fuck em, I’ll become a luddite and read a book on the bog rather than scrolling through YSB rather than letting those authoritarian twinklebums track me.
