  1. Angry facts – Far Queue Cindy
A short lesson in angry economics for our darling Cindy. Yes there are quite a few facts and figures here, but hang with me. It explains the effect of closing The Warehouse Group for 7 weeks at the cost of their, on average $59million per week turnover.
The Warehouse Group (TWG) turned over $3,071 million in the 52 weeks ending 28/7/2019. They paid out $2.042 million to buy the goods they sold (66.5%), leaving a Gross Profit (GP) of $1.028 million. So in round terms they took $3 Billion through their tills, paid $2 Billion for those goods and made a GP of $1 Billion. These figures are all publicly available.
They then paid out $520 million to employees – $10 million a week. Rent and other expenses chewed another $400 million before they paid tax on a net profit of $94 million, leaving a profit of $65 million after tax.
So they made $65 million or 2.1% of the $3 billion plus they rang up on their tills.
Each week they were closed they lost around 2% of their annual Gross Profit, or approximately $20 million per week. They were forced to close for 7 weeks, costing $140,000 million in Gross Profit. That is around a year and a half of their actual profit before tax. But given the Government wont get that tax of around $40 million, it only cost the shareholders around $100miilion and the Government the other $40 million in lost tax.
Yes the Government paid the wage subsidy of $52 million to The Warehouse and another $12million to Noel Leeming who are included in the above TWG Figures. Therefore you can rightly argue it only cost TWG $100 million less the subsidy of $64 Million, or just $36 million lost by shareholders.
There are more buts though. They had to more or less give away their Easter eggs stocks and may have to pay some of the wage subsidy back as it was for 12 weeks not the 7 weeks they were closed.
So Angry Girl, get someone to explain the numbers to you
Warehouse shareholders lost at least $40 million tax paid income ($56 million plus, pre-tax)
Government lost tax and paid subsidies totaling $104 million
Every $5.00 Easter Egg lost cost them the profit on $250.00 worth of sales
Warehouse suppliers also lost sales of around $280 million, luckily not too much of that is NZ manufacturers but it will still impact New Zealand and global trade in the world money-go-round.
Do you get it yet Cindy, someone shoplifts a $5.00 Easter Egg and the next $250.00 sales make no money? That’s why they pay the CEO over $2miilion a year Cindy, every dollar counts. Drop prices overall by 3% and your profit is gone and you are losing millions. Taking over $400 million of sales out of the company over 7 weeks is 18 months of profit gone. The wage subsidy sure was a help, it shares the burning of money with the Government.
But these are just all silly numbers, silly facts as well. The numbers say TWG made a Billion Dollar Gross Profit. The many people out there who think the Rich Pricks can afford to pay more, think that is a Billion Dollar Profit, which is very far from the truth. Let’s not forget the Angry Girl also put up the minimum wage by 6.8% on the 1st of April. Adding 6.8 % to TWG wage bill would cost just another $35.4 Million of the profit they no longer have. (Ok, not everyone will get the raise if already earning more, but at least a $25 million increase in TWG costs would seem a fair bet.)
This story is repeated through out the land darling. You are already printing money with gay abandon, making every dollar worth less as each new dollar rolls off the press. You cant print wealth darling, you have to produce goods and services to be traded by the nasty capitalist system, or no lunch will arrive sweetie.
Sorry did I lose you at GP sweetie? You can join the Far Queue Cindy, it’s sure going to be a long queue. ‘Far Queue Cindy’ stickers and many others now available at NoEyeDeer.nz

    • Brilliant, well done, First comment.
      Welcome.
Love the Etymology that Maggie W will enjoy in her studies. 🙂

Going “hard and early” is just the cover for “knee jerking dancing” that has “twirked” the country over.
Tangled balls of wool where knitting was supposed to be, led on to just screwing newspapers around fish & chips.

No early quarantining, not even level 1. A tangled mess of “alert-levels” and only now is testing being routine for incoming travelers as part of the quarantine.

    • Yeah, I’m with Simpleton. Brilliant comment. Thank you NED.

As we leave the Age of Reason and we enter the Age of Stupidity, we need sensible rational analysis like the one you just posted to keep the flame of Common Sense alive.

I’ve made a decision during lockdown, before I enter into any political debate with anyone – I’m going to check to see if they are able to handle anything more than one idea (One Eyed Deer lol) at a time, to see if I can shame them into using their brains.

Anyway for the few rational people left in NZ, we need smart people to lay out the arguments for us (as you did above) who like to trigger the woke around us. I will try to remember the key points.

I also back Simpleton’s welcome – Welcome to YSB!

  2. Any ()Polite) opinions on the New Conservative Party as a viable alternative to National?

Would a party vote for them in September be worthwhile or simply a waste of a vote?

    Thank you.

    • Komata.
This idea of a ‘wasted ‘ vote doesn’t make sense.National are not going to win outright under MMP and need Act or the Newcons as options to form a government.
The Newcons are doing well and growing every week. They are doing a facebook address every week now ,detailed on their site.
I spoke to the local candidate last week and she asked for some volunteers and had 24 in a couple of days.
National need to be positive about the possibility of working with them .
Some good policies too.Like pulling out of the UN global compact.

        • Komata ,a vote for this fledgling party in my opinion is a vote for Ardern ,they wont get to the 5% thresh hold nor will they get labour votes so they will split the national base and ensure three more years of Ardern IMHO.

      • WiseOwl – I think I simultaneously agree and disagree with you.

On wasted votes, I think it is a design feature of MMP. If we look back over the past couple of elections a lot of centrist votes have been “wasted” – so much so that you really have to be a fascistic leftists (or an academic) to be able to turn a blind eye to it. TOP (more centre-left – but alt-right in the eyes of the insanos in government right now) counted nearly 63,000 party votes all wasted. When you compare that to the Greens who only scored 160,000 votes and got a whopping 8 seats! So every 20,000 Green votes got a seat – but TOP with three times that amount got zero

        That doesn’t sound very democratic!

Similarly so for the Conservatives in 2014, they got almost 100,000 votes and zero seats. And once again, if we look at the Maori party getting less than a third of the over votes of the Conservatives – in the house with 2 seats.

So – wasted votes are very, very important. We need to get rid of the 5% threshhold if we want true proportional representation. And we need to be outraged – vociferously – about the disenfranchisement of so many NZers.

And National must not win! Yesterday’s nanny state behaviour by Nikki Kaye in censoring her own colleague for using the phrase “stick to her knitting” is a new low for the party. We now do not have an Opposition – we are entering the dangerous territory which brought the US to where it is today – with two basically identical major parties.

Once again – MMP has brought this nation to it’s knees and we need to get rid of it before it’s too late.

        15

        • So a party should have as their platform another MMP referendum? Shame it is too late to add a third this time around.

          5

          0

        • Peter Shirtcliff commenced a campaign against MMP
He left it to the 11th hour so there was little time for traction.
As well, he was Chairman of Telecom at a time it was not flavour of the month [and earned that accolade (?) ] so there was antipathy for his POV.

I don’t believe we get another bite at the MMP cherry.
The STV was far superior and is used in many Australian electoral systems and by some councils in NZ.
So, it was not ‘too complicated’ as the pricks suggested.

          6

          • Spot on. MMP is terrible & has unpredicted fishhooks but those who yearn for a return to the past forget that FPP was worse.

STV as used by the WCC I could live with.

            • Nasska.
MMP has destroyed politics in NZ..
              It must go.
FPP was not worse ,at least those running the country had faced scrutiny in their own electorate.
Agree STV is worth a look.
People will always be sheeple if their vote is rendered useless by the political system .
There appears to be a group of mates in Wellington who if not elected or appointed to actual parliament get political appointments elsewhere ,either offshore or in this country.( Cullen Bolger etc )
If you are not in this club forget it.
The end result ? Single party government and sub 40% voter turnout.

    • I think it is a wasted vote. If you don’t like National vote ACT. They need every vote they can get. They will win Epson, Seymour definitely will win there, bringing with him a number of MP’s. How many depends on us. I am continually amazed at various people I talk to who blurt out, “I’m going to vote for ACT”, people I would never of dreamed of doing so. Various reasons, but mostly National and Muller seem useless. Over 5%? Bet they do.

      18

      0

      • Gorse, with respect, you are behaving like someone with Stockholm Syndrome. Just because National are the alternative to Labour – it does not mean they are a good enough option to vote for.

Giving your vote to a party that doesn’t represent your views (you are here on YSB – so I can only assume you are of natural moderate centre-right political leanings). To do so is the first step in accepting tyranny. As the old saying goes “the surest sign of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results”.

National are really, truly Labour Lite. They have abandoned the right and they are now steering hard to the left to try to catch up with the Marxist apocalypse that Commie Chic is trying to impose on us all.

National will never course-correct if they continue to get rewarded at the ballot box.

In short, if you vote National, your vote is wasted (and you have sold your soul into the bargain). This is the Kobayashi Maru exercise (from Star Trek) politically speaking. If you buy into the false narrative that there are only two parties to choose from – then you are accepting a No-Win scenario is inevitable.

We all have to be James Kirk and we have to “not believe in No-Win scenarios”

        A National party that is:
        – in favour of disarming the population
        – supporting the cover-up about the Mosque shootings
        – supports identity politics
        – supports the UN Migration pact
        – is anti-semitic (they still haven’t resiled from UNSC 2334)
        – supports racism, sexism, agism and generally running roughshod over the Bill of Rights
        – wants to change the flag
        – failed over 9 years to reform the RMA
        – failed to reform WFF
        – failed to reform the ERA
        – passionately believes in the global warming scam
        – supports the WHO and the UN
        – puts a mad marxist like Nikki Kaye in a leadership position
is not a party that a rational person can support with a clear conscience.

Your vote is precious, do not give it to liars and thieves because they are the least bad option surely your vote should only go to the party that best represents your views.

To do otherwise is to vote for the status quo and personally I cannot think of a time when the status quo has been worse than it is right now.

        16

        2

        • Not sure what your point is about my comment. I am not voting for National As they no longer represent my views. ACT does. Where the Stockholm Syndrome came From is beyond me. Might pay to reread my comment. I think voting NC is a wasted vote in this election.

          4

          0

          • Ok so I took your advice and re-read your comment Gorse. I think my comment still applies though. ACT (while admittedly better than National) represent a party of the status quo. Seymour is at best 3rd rate, admittedly in this Parliament that makes him seem like a giant – but he is still a strong advocate for the UN Migration Pact and that is a terrific problem. He had a chance to really do something with Charter Schools but he was piss poor, a pilot was just a way to make him shut up and sit in his corner. And now Charter Schools got erased. He was the fool that said “I don’t want a Ministerial job because I want to rebuild the ACT vote” in 2014 and he managed to reduce it from 0.69% to 0.5%. In that 2014 Key government he was given responsibility for reform of the RMA … and failed miserably at it.

He got distracted with the emotional, but 3rd order issue of assisted dying and failed on the two big jobs he had.

All in all, I think he is a perfect envoy for the status quo.

My reason for intimating that NC might be better is in my first post.

Now, you will note that in both my comments, I made an effort to explain my reasoning and gave facts to support my viewpoint. So far you have told us:
            – you disagree, and
            – you are voting ACT, and
            – you think NC is a wasted vote

But you haven’t explained any of those viewpoints or provided any facts or rationale. The contest of ideas is where the Left will lose – YSB among other things – is a place where the commenters enter into the contest of ideas – give it a go!

  3. A Carterton shopkeeper is irate to be on the receiving end of what he claims are demeaning “racially oriented comments” by police while reporting a theft.
Shekar called 111 but said the attending police officers seemed more interested that he had an “offensive weapon” rather than catch the suspects.
Shekar wrote a letter to the Prime Minister’s office accusing police of discrimination and “racially oriented comments”.

He said one of the officers told him he should have let the offenders leave and then made an insurance claim.

“Seeing and hearing all of this I again questioned [the officer], how can you not punish or charge these offenders and why should they not be arrested?”

    • Fucking useless cops.

Well, that is what they are.
      Useless:-
      a. not fulfilling or not expected to achieve the intended purpose or desired outcome.
      a. having no ability or skill in a specified activity or area

If he had called the thieves ‘useless maoris’ the cops would have arrested HIM.
Meng fool would have had conniptions.

If the cops forfeit the role of protecting citizens- and they have, esp after disgrace of Extinction rebellion in Wellington last year, they can fuck off until they improve their attitude.

The idea of defunding cops as in the USA has appeal for here.

At least there, there are so many police forces in the US that is does not matter so much with local police, sheriffs, State police, plus a multitude of federal agencies.

Yes I am in the older age group and have no wish to spent even a moment which is left in my life which is possibly on the shorter end of being. Reading about the destruction of the New Zealand I knew and loved, and grew up in. New Zealand was the best country to live. Now that socialism that is upon us it is frightening. Where are the shops full of items to purchase? It has become even more depressing than in lockdown, and having the stupid egotistical ptpm on news media every day giving us a re run of how great socialism/communism is, will never fix the economy they seriously have no idea.

    Here’s Heather today.
Seems she might be seeing the light no her employer is sitting on the brink of being or no being .

I’ve got to say I’m surprised by Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern’s attack on The Warehouse today.

She’s said publicly that she’s “angry” at the red shed bosses for proposing to cut more than a 1000 jobs when she and her Government (according to her) are prioritising keeping as many individuals employed as possible.

What she’s done here is betray her own fundamental let’s-all-work-four-days-a-week lack of understanding of what drives business.

hrough this public rebuke Ardern’s also essentially warned other big businesses to be careful about redundancies lest they also earn one too.

I tell you what, what I’m hearing from those involved in big business in this country is a deep frustration with this Government, their lack of understanding and their tin ear to pleas.

    21

    0

    • ” hrough this public rebuke Ardern’s also essentially warned other big businesses to be careful about redundancies lest they also earn one too.”

I doubt a rebuke from Ardern will come into their thinking if they are looking at ways to save their business by making staff cuts. It will probably get to the stage that a rebuke from Ardern will be like a “badge of honour”.
Ardern ‘s problem is she thinks she can talk (either directly or indirectly)to the adults running businesses like she talks to the kindy kids or her non thinking Cabinet.

      12

      0

      • I like your last sentence Rosco.

Bear in mind, Ardoom is too daft to realise that in business (whatever that is ! ) sometime you need to lay off 1000 people to save the jobs of 6000 others.

There is not one critter in the cabinet top 10 that would understand that.
20% of cabinet have parents with fraud/theft convictions.

    • Calling someone a “racist” soley for the color of their skin is itself racist. It sows division in society–which may be the intention all along as it is far easier to control a divided society by playing factions off against each other. But first you need to create the factions–hence the accusations, the kneeling, the denouncement of parents, teachers and elders–just like the Cultural Revolution under Mao. (That didn’t end well.)

The “stop racism” is simply a Trojan Horse. It is a tool for division.

We were warned that capitalism is dead. We are now nearly 3 years down the track.

As I said yesterday. The manipulation of the unsuspecting public is despicable. Zoom slip-up: National MP Judith Collins’ failure to mute appears to capture expletive over Armed Response Teams

Senior National MP Judith Collins appears to have been captured in an unmuted Zoom committee uttering “for f**k’s sake” after Labour MP Kiri Allan congratulated police over ending Armed Response Teams.

Collins had earlier been asked to mute herself by committee chair Labour MP Deborah Russell – but could be heard making remarks under her breath.

The Zoom flicked to Collins – whose video was turned off – saying, “Oh, come on”, after Allan acknowledged police for ending the armed police trial.

The airline’s Auckland-Narita route hasn’t been operating since March 30 due to Covid-19 restrictions which saw their international routes slashed by 95 per cent.

Air New Zealand will operate one return service per week on its Auckland-Narita route with the first flight departing Auckland on 25 June.

    • Thanks for the head’s up.
In the past, I have been able to get economy tickets on Air NZ direct to Narita return for around $NZ1,200 if I waited for the special offers. I wonder what the price of an economy return to Narita will be in the short term? I expect several hundred dollars more.

        • The phenomenon is noted amongst other ferals of other species. From Wikipedia:

…….”Infanticide caused by sexual conflict has the general theme of the killer (often male) becoming the new sexual partner of the victim’s parent, which would otherwise be unavailable.[3] This represents a gain in fitness by the killer, and a loss in fitness by the parents of the offspring killed”……

  15. It’s a bloody disgrace that the CoL used the Pike River Mine families for political point scoring, at great expense to the tax payer. Some of those families wanted their loved ones to remain in peace. And now, Angry comes out with this. Certainly not the line of false hope and bullshit he spun to the families who did want the recovery to take place..

“The minister in charge of the Pike River Mine recovery effort, Andrew Little, says it is “just impractical” to expect the remains of any of the fallen miners to be recovered.”
“He said bringing the remains home was no longer an objective of the re-entry – he said it was “just impractical” given the complex technicalities of the mine’s geography. But in terms of recovery of human remains, Little said he has always maintained there is a very low probability of recovery.”

Probably not going to recover bodies, really!
Changed your tune there little angry you have never spun that line before that you never that that they ewould never recover the bodies.

So why did he establish the Pike River Recovery Agency?

      From the PRRA website:

Our work will be completed in three phases:
      1, Planning […]
      2. Recovery: Following the 21 May 2019 re-entry, and stepping through the 170m barrier on 17 December 2019, the recovery phase has now begun. This involves gathering evidence along the 2.3km drift; and, if possible, recovering any human remains.

Some of us thought otherwise and were howled-down and derided as a result, so we now have to wonder why Mr Little has suddenly changed his mind….

Pastor pleads not guilty to sexual assaulting woman during ‘prayers of deliverance’ at Canberra church

    ***
A pastor facing charges of sexually assaulting a woman during a so-called “prayer of deliverance” at a Canberra church, allegedly told a man who confronted him about the assault that it was between him “and the Holy Spirit”.

Ms Jerome said the prosecution’s case was that the pastor allegedly told the woman she would have to go to bed with him, quoting Isaiah and Ezekiel from the Bible. “She questioned the accused about whether this was adultery,” Ms Jerome said, but had the “fear of God” and so did what the pastor said. “She told police she did it because she thought she’d be cursed.”
    ***

This is the sad thing: she placed her trust in a pervert, and clearly had some doubts about his motives, but her misguided belief that she’d be “cursed” allowed him to take advantage of her.

I said , tongue in cheek, to friends a few weeks ago that most of NZ thinks that a light switch was turn off for a while , for the economy, and when the switch was turned on again, everything would be back to normal immediately. It looks like I might have been right, even though I was joking.

  20. An economics professor at a university made a statement that he had never failed a single student before, but had recently failed an entire class. That class had insisted that Labour’s socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equaliser.

The professor then said “Okay, we will have an experiment in this class on Labour’s plan”. All grades will be averaged and everyone will receive the same grade so no one will fail and no one will receive an A.

After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a B. The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy. As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too so they studied little. The second test average was a D! No one was happy. When the 3rd test rolled around, the average was an F.

As the tests proceeded, the scores never increased as bickering, blame and name-calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else.

To their great surprise, ALL FAILED and the professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great, but when government takes all the reward away, no one will try or want to succeed.

  21. Black votes matter to many politicians — more so than black lives. That is why such politicians must try to keep black voters fearful, angry, and resentful. Racial harmony would be a political disaster for such politicians.
