Morning all, for the last 3 days I’ve been watching 2 cone truck loads of overweight trash driving up and down the busy road out front holding up traffic and putting out cones and then picking them up again. There are 2 flash utes with fat people in observing them and every half hour or so they all meet up and do high fives. They clearly have nothing else to do and after an hour and a half or so they park up the road for a 3 hour rest before doing it all again. The good news is the people they’re holding up have worked out what they’re up too and are getting far more abusive. I just don’t think I can put up with another day of this before I lose the will to live. HELP!!!!!

The traffic management systems aided by “work safety” ” ‘ealth & saftey” are a burgeoning empire of money spinners.

Which shovels the costs of this $billion dollar industry in a number of ways onto consumers, rate payers, & taxpayers.
In a short time, my small village there are 2 supposedly competing (not) “traffic management”.
One that seems to be a part of a franchise of such & the other developed from a contractor whose costs on that figured he may as well develop his own set up, and then gained some some nice contracts too.
All charging like wounded bulls, for “standby” utes, trucks, & crew, plus the signage & cones etc.. knowing that No essential work will be done if other business’s, councils, etc.. do not sign up to them.
At least the bro’s are off the couch, so I suppose that’s a plus.
Worse, though, is their pay rate for uneducated & lazy.
All the flash gear is supplied.
But in saying that, stories from those who do the road work, there are many mad bastards that drive cars and who drive through sites at speed. Can’t blame those who value their lives on the job for valuing their lives.
One of the issues is that it all has to have a plan approved by some desk jockey in the local council to NZTA office, so all the money doesn’t go just to the traffic management guys. They get ripped off as well.

Concrete was expensive & to save money & water the local crews used to fill the drums with rocks. The other fail safe protection was to park the county grader or a D4 between them & the traffic. The workers were fitter & lighter on their feet too. Although they spent most of the day breast feeding their shovels they could execute an impromptu ‘jeté’ or an ‘assemblé” that would have done Rudolf Nureyv proud when they needed to get out of the way
But that was before the mad women with cats gained the ascendency & declared that no-one could be held responsible for their own actions.

Jones saw the Beyond Oil and Gas Alliance as a “women’s knitting group” by comparison and said New Zealand’s energy needs were significant enough to warrant gas exploration under that ‘sovereign risk’ provision – meaning other international agreements were not set for some sort of domino effect.

Shute was probably the first apocalyptical novelist but his focus was on how the characters each approached their impending death. It was penned in 1957 & set in 1963 yet at that time no-one really understood the concept of a nuclear winter.
